tbh characters like galadriel are more important now than ever. there's morfydd clark saying that every time she's played a human woman, shame has been at the heart of the character, but there is no shame in galadriel.

galadriel turning her back on the ethereal light of elven heaven to hunt down and savage a demigod with her dead brother's dagger, only to accidentally fall in love with that demigod isn't the fragile, guilt-laden journey we're used to seeing women undertake.

it's unapologetic. it's defiant. it's staring into the storm and deciding you have the right to step forward into that tempest. (a decision men have made time and time again in story and in song while women are rarely given the opportunity.) she's not watching the rings of power from a distance. she's the heart of the show, her delirious appetite to kill sauron the only reason the story even exists in the first place. and yes, for those knowingly or unknowingly anxious about women, it's a hard watch. that's exactly why they should watch it.

i love galadriel. i hope she never takes her hand off the hilt of her sword. i hope she never learns shame.

Hello and welcome to this new post of mine! I will give you a reading on what sacrifices you will need to make. I hope you guys enjoy and find this interesting.

Pile 1:

You will need to make some financial sacrifices soon. This might have to do with going to a higher level of education, some of you will have many birthdays coming up. For most of you this financial sacrifice won’t come as a surprise, and will be something you have been preparing for, for a while now. For many this will all be a heavy blow on your financial security, but it will be an investment, and you will get all of it and much more eventually.

The one’s who need to make a smaller financial sacrifice will be doing so out of kindness. For you, someone close to you will need some help; maybe you’ll have a few birthdays coming up, some other celebrations, or people near you will be in need for some financial blessings due to having come in a tight situation with money.

Pile 2:

You will be sacrificing a lot of time. There will be something great coming onto your path that will take a lot of focus and time. This sacrifice will be something you have been waiting for, but it will be more difficult and time-consuming than you will originally think. Once this opportunity arises make sure to grab it without a second-thought, go for it and chase it with all your might.

For some of you, this might be an application to something such as studies, a school, or a specific club you have been wanting to join. To others of you, you will be approached to do something you have always wanted to do. Think in the direction of being scouted as a model, being asked to audition for something etc. Something that you have been wanting to do or become but is usually really difficult. These opportunities will arise, but will need many sacrifices to actually accomplish.

Pile 3:

You will be sacrificing love in the next couple of months. This doesn’t mean you will lose your partner if you have one, nor does it automatically mean you’ll lose some of your friends and family. Of course, for a couple of you losing some people you love will be what is coming for you; but them leaving will be for the better, since you will find out they have done way more harm than you ever thought.

Some of you will also simply be keeping some distance with the people you love, this could be both physical and mental distance. Maybe you need to focus on something important the next couple of months, maybe you will be going on a vacation and due to that, leaving a couple of people behind in your home country or the city you live in. No matter what will be coming, some space will be created between you and a (or multiple) loved one(s).

What are your thoughts on Romina? Was she a Hornsent? We actually do see her in that story trailer without obvious horns.

I think Romina is indeed hornsent… when the story trailer is depicting the burning of hornsent lands, we see her holding the bud that became her weapon with her church burning around her:

the Church of the Bud is built in the same style as other hornsent architecture:

the Church of the Bud was not originally dedicated to the scarlet rot:

“There was a time when these buds were not touched by the scarlet rot's blight—when they were the symbol of the small church deep in the ancient ruins of Rauh.” (Scarlet Bud)

I think the church used to be dedicated to hornsent spirituality, as it overlooks Enir-Ilim and is located deep within the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, which was a very important place to the hornsent because it was perhaps the origin of the Crucible itself:

“It is said Devonia quested in search of the Crucible's origin, and departed from the lands of the Erdtree alone.” (Crucible Hammer-Helm)

“A record of crafting techniques left by the hornsent academics who studied the ancient ruins of Rauh.” (Antiquity Scholar’s Cookbook)

we find Devonia in the Ancient Ruins of Rauh, and the hornsent (who revered the Crucible above all) studied the place, so I think it’s fair to say that Rauh is the origin of the Crucible! I think it’s possible that the Church of the Bud might have originally been involved in Crucible worship!

the co-op summoning pools seem to confirm the Ancient Ruins of Rauh as a hornsent stronghold, because they are listed under the “Land of the Tower:”

there’s also some cute inquisitors near the Church of the Bud praying to the Tower:

and of course, there’s the deathblight Divine Beast Dancing Lion in the middle of Rauh!

so basically, it makes sense that the Church of the Bud was targeted by the Crusade… it’s a hornsent church involved in hornsent spirituality. Romina herself is most likely hornsent too; it isn’t super clear if she had horns or not under her hood in the trailer, but if she doesn’t, that doesn’t mean she can’t be hornsent. at the very least, she was involved in hornsent religious practices!

Romina also has cut voice lines! (at 0:31 in the video) she says, “Children of the Tower; butterflies take wing.” we don’t know the context, but “the Tower” obviously refers to the hornsent, so Romina is calling upon the hornsent here, which I think further suggests she was one of them!

I think a lot about the depictions of Troilus' death that feature Achilles trying to prise him with a gift of doves instead of the immediate promise of death.

I've alluded to it before, but I tend to look at Achilles and Apollo as comparison cases - maybe not explicitly foils because I'm petty and that would imply that Achilles is narratively equal to Apollo and I don't want to give him that kind of honour even in a bit of casual analysis - but certainly as characters who gain a great deal of complexity when their actions are contextualised in context of each other's. The ambush of Troilus is just one of those funny little things that gets my mind a-whirring.

Because to me, Apollo's 'Troilus' so to speak is Kassandra. Kassandra, who Apollo coveted and wished to court. Kassandra, who was offered a great gift that would have undoubtedly forever marked her as one of Apollo's if she had accepted. Kassandra, who takes the gift but rejects the god and is cursed for her deception. Kassandra, whose curse makes her experience a thousand deaths over and over with no way of communicating such disaster to those around her.

The Achilles who falls in love with Troilus upon seeing his beauty and wishes to make a conquest of him is much the same to me. The biggest difference between Troilus and Kassandra though is that Troilus' rejection is much more physical. Those doves are nothing more than a symbol of the type of sacrifice Troilus would be; if he accepted them, he would die a docile death, sweet and quiet, a necessary casualty to turn the winds like Iphigenia. Except Achilles' love is nothing like Agamemnon's and it is nothing like Apollo's.

In the face of rejection, Achilles' instinct is to maim, it is to destroy. He was always going to kill Troilus - for the sake of the campaign, the boy had to die - but there was no dove's death, no quick and easy knife through the heart, no spit into an open mouth. Troilus' death is a brutal, drawn-out thing, a chase through the sand, a dragging that bruises his skin, a ripping of his hair, a violation of his flesh, a maiming of his corpse. As far as sacrifices go, it's an apalling one. None would dare to treat an animal set to be sacrificed before a god with that kind of brutality, sacrifices were meant to be blemishless and beautiful, something the gods would find appealing. Iphigenia was given away in her wedding finery, Kassandra was dressed as though to seduce a god. Troilus was a dove with his wings broken and his feathers pulled, whose death cries must've been like the terrible hollering of all birds when they try to alert their kind to a predator.

And as fucked as that is, I love it. It sets Achilles' love as this stormy, squallish thing that bleeds into his rage, it establishes that for him, love and wrath are but two sides of the same blade. Troilus was a necessary sacrifice, but he is in no way given even a modicum of the same dignity his contemporaries are and a part of me is just continually intrigued by this.
