Ever since rediscovering the movie last year, I can't help but think about these two every time I hear this song, specially since 2024, 17 years after the events of the movie, is when they would finally reunite, albeit, in a different way.

Hello!!!!! If you’re seeing this post, that probably means that you’re in a fandom, possibly even multiple of them! I’m running a survey on some fandom related things and I would really appreciate it if you could help me out!

First of all, this survey is not being used for any real research or study. I’m just very autistic about fandom culture and history and I felt like this would be the best way for me to get responses to the questions I have in a well organized manner. I really hope to hear from a wide array of fans in a wide array of communities! It’s completely anonymous of course so please feel free to be honest! I do plan on sharing some of the open question responses at the end however so please be aware of that.

Second of all, my actual questions and what I’m looking for. I’m very interested in the culture and attitudes around shipping and fanfiction, and the terms pro/anti-ship. I want to know when other people recall seeing these terms first pop up, and I want to hear from people who may self identify as one or the other, or neither or something else entirely. There are several open ended questions and optional spaces to elaborate on your thoughts so please feel free to add on as much as you’d like!

I may repost this same post a couple of times between now and then in various fandom tags so please feel free to block the tag ‘Allen’s fandom survey’ to avoid seeing it again if you don’t want to (or feel free to block me akdhsjdhdk).

It would also really help if you could share it so it reaches more people in even more fandoms and communities, but that’s not really necessary. An interesting thing I've noticed is that now, if you say you grew up going to Disney parks/liking Disney, there's this assumption that you grew up super wealthy. Like, no, my parents weren't rich, Disney parks just used to have more reasonable ticket prices (also, if you lived locally there were chances you knew an employee who could get you entry)

OKAY SO WAIT A MOMENT...

Disney's Wish could have been so good, and we all know this, but what about this.

Instead of having the power couple out front right away, the movie could have played out almost exactly like it had...

Except at the final moment, when Asha needs help from everyone, one person ruins their plan. One person reveals their evil intent. Not Simon, not one of her cheesy, blank slated friends. Not even the annoying, useless goat. That person is Queen Amaya.

Taking a stand with her husband, she and Magnifico in the end are beaten because, hey, Disney movie. Magnifico is sucked into the staff. But now Asha has to have the stones to either lock up or banish Amaya. She chooses banishment, and is cast out of Rosas.

While away from the kingdom, she pulls something out of her sleeve... Magnifico's mirror, which was supposed to be seized from her before she left.

"Don't worry, my king, we'll find a way to set you free," she whispers. "But you serve a good purpose in there for now."

Magnifico showers his wife with praise of her beauty, and is able to tap into the power of the mirror, viewing the world from his cage. He sees their opportunity. A king with a daughter to raise in a distant kingdom.

They take it. Thus, Queen Amaya becomes a wicked stepmother to Snow White, and the Disney cycle becomes a loop. The newest Disney Princess movie begins the oldest. And the magic continues.

You know what else I would put in a Snow White Live Action retelling if I were Disney?

I'd put in a couple more scenes showing the relationship between Snow and the Queen.

I'd have the Queen be up late in the morning because she spent all night studying spell books or something, and then Snow notices she looks tired and brings her an apple, neatly sliced, without being asked. And then the Queen smashes the plate and makes Snow clean it up, because she hates Snow White and in her mind the girl's simple act of kindness was just a reminder that the Queen "looked" tired (and therefore less beautiful.)

I'd have Snow White go to the market and find just the right color thread to stitch up a hole in the Queen's purple cloak, because she noticed it's getting worn down, but then the Queen burns the whole thing and orders her back into the market to buy a whole new cloak instead.

I'd have Snow White consistently trying to feed and befriend the Queen's raven, picking up after it, making it new perches to land on around the castle in her spare time, bringing it treats; but it hates her, which is what makes the Queen like the raven in the first place.

I'd just show how Snow White is not only desperate to be loved, but to love—she's a born motherly soul, super caring, and is never happier than when she gets to take care of someone's needs and make their lives easier. Not necessarily because it'll make them like her—but because she genuinely wants them to be happy. And of course, nothing she can do will make the Queen happy. The stepmother refuses to be loved in any way by her stepdaughter.

So then no wonder Snow White befriends the doves (typically shy easily-frightened creatures) and woodland animals, and is so ready to take care of the Dwarfs even when they haven't accepted her yet. It's why she pays special attention to Grumpy, who won't let her do him any good at first.

I'd just show that a lot more often in the live action movie, in ways that really make you hurt for Snow White—and celebrate with her, when she finally gets a whole family of Dwarfs and her Prince to love and be loved by.

Growing up; you tend to improve over the years, as you learn from mistakes and such, grieving and mourning losses which make you stronger. But, sometimes, you can't help but just feel tired.
