Was it casual when you told her she was nothing like her mum after she risked her life to save yours and you believed she was a good person even when she couldn't?

Getting on my soapbox for this one.
Okay, I don’t expect particularly high quality writing from a Disney Channel movie (they’re just meant to be fun with some catchy tunes), but in Descendants: Rise of Red they introduce the son of Morgan Le Fey and name him Morgie?
Putting aside that Morgan Le Fey has not been an animated Disney villain (she was in the live action Sorcerer’s Apprentice movie) (also Mad Madam Mim was right there and I could see her naming her son or grandson Morgie) in most modern versions of Arthurian Legend she has a son, Mordred. Mordred would work with Descendants’ parent-child naming convention and it sounds more menacing for a potential villain (Mordred, More Dread, it just works).
Alright, I’m getting off my soapbox now.

Watched the new Disney Descendants movie and here's this rambly review for it. It has spoilers, so it'll be under the cut
So basically, I would give it a 6.5/10. It was alright but it could've been much better. In fact, many of the film's aspects could've been worse but at the same time could've been better such as the costume design, the characters and the CGI. The writing is ehhh. It's a fairly simple plot and while it contradicts what little stable worldbuilding the Disney Descendents have (that's for another day), it's easy to understand; what you see is what you get. That's not necessary a bad thing as overcomplicated plots can be a headache but it could've benefited from more substance. It has this message about how people can be more complex than black and white thinking and that people's pasts can be wildly different from who they are in the present and can influence them, which are neat messages. The pacing is rather fast and doesn't spend time exploring a bunch, which means that characters outside of the protagonists are barely two dimensional. The climax is underwhelming and despite Castlecoming being hyped up as this big thing, we don't even see the event itself. Red and Chloe have to take a banned magic cookbook to prevent the villain kids from using that to prank the younger Queen of Hearts and they also have to deal with floating swords and magic owl statues along the way. There was some action but not enough to be engaging for anyone that's not a young kid. Once Red and Chloe got the book and dealt with the villains, that's it. They don't even show up at Castlegoing. Honestly, if the heroes failed to prevent the book from failing into the villains' hands and they had to crash Castlecoming in order to stop the prank at the nick of time, that would've made for a more exciting climax. Then the girls return to the present and since Bridget looks the same, they thought that the changes to the past didn't carry over until, Bridget turns around and reveals that the front of her dress has been noticeably changed to represent that she's good now. That's kinda clever ngl. I'm sad that Uma only appears for at most the first 20 minutes of the film and is largely forgotten about. I was hoping to see her more in the film since she's one of the best characters in the series IMO. Also there's a sequel hook where she narrates over the ending and it turns out that she's somehow aware that the timeline has been messed with and gives out a sequel hook with "Do you think the story ends here?". I was anticipating a post credit scene that would extend on that hook but there was none. I get if they weren't able to get the actors for Harry Hook and Gaston Jr to reprise their roles but it was kinda weird that they weren't able to show up alongside Uma's crew. They were like her close hands and right-hand men after all. The film would've benefited more if it was longer; ideally an hour but 20-30 minutes would've worked. That way, you would have time to develop the side characters more. Out of the side characters, I liked Merlin the most; his quirky clumsiness and voice were neato. The songs weren't that bad and were catchy at least. And that's all I was able to say about it today.

but wait?
if merlin had a spell put on the book so that it couldn't fall into the wrong hands then how were the villains able to curse Bridget in the first timeline? It doesnt make sense? beucase surely they had the same motivation each time which was wrong so even without red and chloe being their they wouldnt have succeeded?

Following my redesign of Mal, here’s my take on Evie from Descendants! 👑 I wanted her look to be contrast Mal and be a lot more polished since she’s royalty. I also leaned more into prim and princess-like based on her personality in the movie, but still maintaining dark elements in her aesthetic. I gave her a little skull makeup bag as a nod to the skull in her mother’s dungeon from the original film!

I'm watching Rise of Red, and I have so much to say, but for now I'll settle for saying:
Is SOMEOME going to point out that Merlin Academy is obviously filled with magic?? Wich seems to be forbbiden in Auradon currently?? The principal and creator of the school is probably the most powerful magic user in universe, and they have classes like Alchemy? Fairy Godmother and other students can just be in the open practicing with magic wands and is no issue?
They just keep making Beast look like the worst ruler lmao
