🇨🇦 Canada to halt all further arms exports to Israel in support of ceasefire and 2-state “solution”, recognizing ICJ ruling. This came after a non-binding parliamentary resolution which called for ending arms sales. March 22, 2024.
🚨Russia & China veto US UN Security Council ceasefire resolution
The resolution showed a shift: US had vetoed every ceasefire proposal, most recently Algeria’s as the US opposed language of “immediate” ceasefire, preferring “humanitarian pause”. But now the US draft states “the imperative of an immediate and sustained ceasefire”.
The problem? It’d last only 6 weeks, is conditional on release of Israeli hostages, and condemns both Hamas’ op & the Houthi naval blockade. The wording of “determines the imperative” is also weak, implying the importance of a ceasefire, not demanding one.
The result? It wouldn’t obligate Israel to end the genocide + let it continue on the pretext that there’s no “acceptable” hostage deal.
It was vetoed by 🇷🇺 & 🇨🇳 who said it’d let Israel continue attacks & invade Rafah. Algeria also voted against it.
10 states are planning alternative resolution calling for Ramadan ceasefire, including but not conditioned on release of Israeli hostages. US likely to veto.
Day 168 - IMPORTANT
• Gaza death toll surpasses 32,000 not including the thousands buried under rubble
‼️ Israel seized 1,977 acres of West Bank land for settlements, the largest land theft since 1993

• 50 Palestinians abducted incl. 4 kids during 60+ Israeli military raids across West Bank in 2 days. Marking March 20 “one of the deadliest nights recorded to date” in 2024 in West Bank w/ 7+ Palestinians killed. Israeli settlers also took over 20+ Palestinian residential structures
• UN aid mission to north Gaza for 7,500 people was denied by Israel
🇫🇮 Finland to resume UNRWA funding
March 24, 2024.

• 84 Palestinians killed, 106 injured in Gaza in past 24 hours
• Israel denied thousands of Christians from West Bank entry to Jerusalem on Psalm Sunday, heightening military checkpoints. Israel’s apartheid system discriminates Palestinians’ freedom of movement, requiring permits for West Bank residents to enter, which is rarely granted. More info on Israeli apartheid: https://rb.gy/vjocrd + checkpoints: https://rb.gy/rabxt6;
• Israel to deny all UNRWA aid convoys to north Gaza, despite 70% of population subject to “catastrophic starvation”
• BDS launches boycott of tech company Intel due to its $25bn investment in new factory in Israel, the “largest investment ever”; on top of Intel’s $50bn+ investments in Israel in past 50 years
March 25, 2024.
UNSC CEASEFIRE MOTION PASSES
For the 1st time the Security Council managed to pass a ceasefire resolution. The US abstained while all 14 others voted yes
The US planned to veto if it didn’t mention the hostages so it “demands an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan respected by all parties leading to a permanent sustainable ceasefire, and also demands the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.”
But it doesn’t condition the ceasefire on a hostage swap the way done by the US draft that got vetoed by 🇷🇺 & 🇨🇳
It doesn’t condemn Hamas explicitly as the US wanted but it “deplores” all attacks against civilians & “all acts of terrorism” noting that it’s illegal to take hostages under int’l law. So it’s indirect condemnation
It expresses deep concern “about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip,” calling for more efforts for more aid & to protect civilians. This is weak language
Better than nothing but not enough as people are slaughtered & raped.
Day 171 — Attacks on 3 hospitals
🚨 Israel escalates attacks on “safe zone” Rafah killing 30+, including women and children amid threats of looming ground invasion
• 107 Palestinians killed, 176 injured in past 24 hours
🏥 22,000 displaced Palestinians face worsening conditions in the European Hospital, one of the last functioning in Gaza, overcrowded with patients awaiting critical care
🏥 Israeli forces lay siege to further hospitals in Khan Younis forcing critically ill patients to evacuate the premises surrounded by complete destruction
🏥 Israeli forces open fire on medical staff forced to evacuate al-Amal Hospital amid continuous attacks on the premise leaving patients in critical condition, deprived of medical supervision
• Netanyahu cancels Israeli delegation trip to US over its abstention in today’s UNSC vote, calling it a departure from their long-standing support of Israel. Biden called the move “disappointing”
• Israeli assaults targeting homes in central Gaza kill 18

• IOF abducts 30 Palestinians in overnight raids in West Bank cities
🇱🇧 Israeli airstrike in eastern Lebanon kills 2 people, an escalation as the bombing was far from south Lebanon, the usual battleground

i have no idea how i snagged this url but i'll treasure it forever
about me:
my name is jack (he/him), and i am 20 years old. i follow from @nethnad.
i'm an ancient history/classical studies major! currently in my 3rd year of university. i plan to go into archaeology, concentrating on the late bronze age/early iron age aegean. primarily interested in ancient greece because the more i look at ancient rome, the more depressed i tend to get. i do love pompeii tho ❤️
english is my first language. i'm mostly fluent in ancient greek, and have been studying it for three years. took latin in high school but i didn't really stick with it afterwards.
i've been really into greek myths and legend since i was little, but i recently reread a bunch of epic poetry and ancient plays and got consumed yet again :)
we get a little silly here. a little goofy even. perhaps we even steal some horses and swim in the sea and don't look at the thracian camp its totally fine :) its fine guys :)
aspects about greek myths/legends/epic i'm always down to clown about:
teucer.... teucer.... can anyone hear me. does anyone else want to yap for 2 billion years about this side character from the iliad who is both trojan and greek and ultimately treated like neither. he helped decimate his mother's city, her family, her home all in support of his brother who didn't even live to see it and when he gets home what does he get? his father's rage and exile. he deserves so much more love and appreciation - he can be downright hilarious sometimes, with this sort of dry humor and banter that just works everytime (well. not for him really. it makes everyone mad at him. but that makes me love him even more). he's incredibly close with his brother, working totally in sync with him and protecting his family after his death. he's got daddy issues to the extreme. he straight up moves to cyprus. he's so cool. everyone should love teucer.
i am also constantly consumed by telemachus thoughts. particularly about his narrative in the telemachy, but also just paternal legacies in general and the uncertain future that he faces, coming of age at the tail end of this age of heroes where the gods who walked casually alongside his father and grandfather have almost totally removed themselves from human affairs. maybe its the early iron age brainrot permanently seared into my soul but he's just fascinating to me!! also he and peisistratus practically invented the "and there was only one bed" trope in 700 BCE <3
diomedes my boy diomedes my favorite child soldier turned peaceful farmer diomedes. does anyone perchance want to discuss breaking the cycle of violence when its all you've ever known this fine evening? his relationship with the other epigoni? the fact that his dad ate some guy's brain and diomedes has practically been stuck trying to repair his family kleos ever since?
i also have many thoughts specifically about odydio/penodydio that consume my every waking moment. i dont even know where this came from it just Happened. they're like the athena skills trifecta with varying degrees of bastard energy. its about the Yearning.
homeric epic to me is a tragedy (the end of an age of heroes, etc etc) but i am also captivated by how these characters try and heal from their pasts/break that cycle of constant warfare, so if that ever floats your boat please come into my inbox we can have brainworms Together.
pfp is from a vase of telemachus from the beazley pottery database, specifically this skyphos where he's standing with his spears by penelope and her loom. header on mobile/browser is from the ship procession fresco of house 5 from akotiri, thera/santorini. it dates from 2000-1500 BCE and i love it <3 <3 <3

In 2023, Bulgaria maintained one of the lowest government debt-to-GDP ratios in the EU at 22.9%, as overall government deficits in the euro area and EU slightly increased. Government deficits rose to 3.6% of GDP in the euro area and 3.5% in the EU, while government debt levels fell across the region.
In 2023, the government deficit to GDP ratio increased slightly in both the euro area and the European Union (EU), according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In the euro area, the ratio rose from 3.5% in 2022 to 3.6%, while in the EU it increased from 3.2% to 3.5%. However, government debt to GDP ratios saw a decline, with the euro area ratio falling from 89.5% at the end of 2022 to 87.4% at the end of 2023, and the EU ratio dropping from 82.5% to 80.8%.
This data, based on national reports from EU Member States in their second notification of 2024 for the excessive deficit procedure (EDP), covers the period from 2020 to 2023 and adheres to the ESA 2010 system of national accounts.
In 2023, most EU countries recorded deficits, except for Denmark (+3.3%), Cyprus (+2.0%), Ireland (+1.5%), and Portugal (+1.2%). The largest deficits were found in Italy (-7.2%), Hungary (-6.7%), and Romania (-6.5%), with ten Member States exceeding the 3% of GDP deficit threshold.
Government debt ratios varied widely across the EU at the end of 2023. The lowest ratios were in Estonia (20.2%), Bulgaria (22.9%), and Luxembourg (25.5%), while the highest were recorded in Greece (163.9%), Italy (134.8%), and France (109.9%). In total, 13 Member States had debt ratios exceeding 60% of GDP.
Government expenditure in the euro area for 2023 stood at 49.5% of GDP, with revenue at 45.9%, while in the EU, these figures were 49.0% and 45.5%, respectively. Both revenue and expenditure ratios decreased compared to 2022.
Eurostat has expressed concerns about the quality of Estonia's 2023 data due to issues with the timing of military expenditure reporting, which affects the deficit by approximately 0.4% of GDP. This is being discussed with Estonian authorities for future corrections.
Government debt at 88.1% of GDP in euro area
At the end of the second quarter of 2024, the general government gross debt to GDP ratio in the euro area (EA20) stood at 88.1%, compared with 87.8% at the end of the first quarter of 2024. In the EU, the ratio also increased from 81.3% to 81.5%.
Compared with the second quarter of 2023, the government debt to GDP ratio decreased in both the euro area (from 88.8% to 88.1%) and the EU (from 81.9% to 81.5%).
At the end of the second quarter of 2024, the general government debt was made up of 84.0% debt securities in the euro area and 83.6% in the EU, 13.4% loans in the euro area and 13.9% in the EU and 2.5% currency and deposits both in the euro area and in the EU.
Due to the involvement of EU Member States' governments in lending to certain Member States, quarterly data on intergovernmental lending (IGL) are also published. The IGL as percentage of GDP at the end of the second quarter of 2024 stood at 1.5% in the euro area and at 1.3% in the EU.
The highest ratios of government debt to GDP at the end of the second quarter of 2024 were recorded in Greece (163.6%), Italy (137.0%), France (112.2%), Belgium (108.0%), Spain (105.3%), and Portugal (100.6%), and the lowest were recorded in Bulgaria (22.1%), Estonia (23.8%) and Luxembourg (26.8%).
Compared with the first quarter of 2024, nine Member States registered an increase in their debt to GDP ratio at the end of the second quarter of 2024, seventeen a decrease, and the ratio remained stable in Denmark. The largest increases in the ratio were observed in Finland (+2.0 percentage points – pp), Austria and Italy (both +1.8 pp), France (+1.6 pp), Portugal (+1.2 pp), Poland (+0.9 pp) and Sweden (+0.6 pp). The largest decreases were recorded in Cyprus (-2.1 pp), Croatia (-2.0 pp), Greece (-1.8 pp), Lithuania (-1.7 pp), Spain (-0.9 pp), Czechia (-0.8 pp), the Netherlands and Germany (-0.7 pp), and Romania (-0.6 pp).

A reflection on the issue of racism in "Othello"
Choose a scene from Othello that speaks to you (a scan or text - you will find the play online): choose a global issue and write a reflection on how it is shown in the fragment that piqued your interest.
link to Act 1, scene 3: https://shakespeare.folger.edu/shakespeares-works/othello/act-1-scene-3/
"Othello" is one of William Shakespeare's most famous and widely consumed plays, written around 1603. It follows the tragic story of the eponymous Moorish commander on his gradual descent into madness following his marriage to Desdemona, the young daughter of Barbantio, a disapproving Venetian senator. The play begins with Iago, Othello's malicious ensign, expressing his hatred towards his superior and his plans to seek retribution. Through a calculated and well-orchestrated chain of events, Iago manipulates Othello into believing his wife's unfaithfulness, which ultimately leads to the tragic and fatal collapse of their relationship. In the play, all characters, including the central couple, are mere pawns in Iago's evil, envy-fueled mind game. And while jealousy is a prominent theme in the play, other issues such as manipulation, love, betrayal, gender roles, and racism are also embedded in the complex plot. This essay will focus on the latter global issue, racism, particularly in Act 1, Scene 3, where it is most notably displayed.
The scene begins with the duke and senators anticipating the Turkish fleet’s attack on Cyprus when in walk Barbantio, Othello, Cassio, Iago, and Roderigo. The distraught father-in-law sorrowfully expresses his “particular grief” [1.3.65] over Desdemona’s new relationship with a man of Moorish descent. Offended by the couple's racial dissimilarity, he insists that his daughter was “abused, stolen” [1.3.73] and “corrupted by spells and medicines bought of mountebanks.” [1.3.73-74]. By accusing Othello of deception through the use of magic and drugs, he implies that Desdemona would never willfully associate herself with a Black man. Furthermore, he perpetuates the eurocentric view of blackness as mysterious and exotic, and its subsequent association with the supernatural, and evil. Despite the commander’s denial of such claims, Barbantio stubbornly persists, stating: “to fall in love with what she feared to look on!” [1.3.116], thus invalidating Othello’s rebuttal and reassurance of lack of foul play by expressing his view of Black people as aesthetically inferior, making an interracial relationship “against all rules of nature” [1.3.119]. He, therefore, reinforces his racist theory of Othello being a malicious sorcerer, who used magic to seduce his daughter.
A heated dialogue ensues after which all but Roderigo and Iago exit. The two are left to discuss Roderigo’s secret affection for the Moor’s wife and Barbantio’s daughter, Desdemona. Two-faced Iago, when in the presence of his superior, Othello, is fully devoted to him, however, he suddenly shifts his demeanour upon his departure. Aware of Roderigo’s desire to court the young beauty, he begins to belittle the Venetian army’s general. Similar to how Barbantio does earlier in the scene, he makes use of negative racial stereotypes and preconceived concepts of Black people and their culture to turn Roderigo against Othello. Iago reassures him that “It cannot be long that Desdemona should continue her love to the Moor … nor he his to her” [1.3.384-387] giving the justification that “These Moors are changeable in their wills” [1.3.389-390]. Here, Iago is communicating the harmful stereotype that Black people are unpredictable and insatiable in their sexual desires and subsequent endeavours. Overexaggerated promiscuity and sexual prowess are platitudinous and bigoted traits attributed to Black individuals, often resulting in their dehumanization, which can also be observed in this scene when the antagonist proceeds to call the Moor an “erring barbarian” [1.3.398], in other words, a sinning savage.
The treatment of Othello by his associates in the play serves as a stark example of how marginalized individuals often face negative remarks regarding their appearance and character due to their skin colour and ethnicity. Throughout the play, Othello is repeatedly subjected to derogatory comments about his appearance and character, such as Barbantio's accusation of sorcery based on his blackness. Even seemingly supportive comments can be rooted in racist stereotypes, as evidenced by the Duke's statement that Othello is "more fair than Black." [1.3.331]. While this is an attempt to take Othello's side and flatter him, it reinforces the prejudiced assumption of Black people being morally corrupt, suggesting that Othello is a rare outlier. Such race-based comments can have a harmful impact on marginalized individuals, weakening their self-esteem and causing shame about their heritage and ethnicity. The damaging effects of exposure to racist remarks are illustrated by Othello's response to Barbantio's accusation. He begins his defence with the self-deprecating statement "Rude I am in my speech" [1.3.96] acknowledging his lack of refinement in comparison to the Venetians due to his status as a “barbarian” [1.3.398] outsider. This illustrates how even someone as accomplished as Othello can internalize negative comments about his ethnicity, leading to a diminished sense of self-worth and belonging.
In conclusion, "Othello" is a powerful play that explores multiple global issues, among which is racism. The issue of racism is particularly prominent in Act 1, Scene 3, where it is evident how Othello, the play's central character, is subjected to derogatory comments and prejudiced assumptions about his character due to his appearance. The treatment of Othello by his associates in the play serves as an example of how marginalized individuals often face negative remarks due to their skin colour and ethnicity, leading to a diminished sense of self-worth and belonging. Shakespeare's play, while set in the distant past, still resonates today, reminding us of the harmful impact of racism and prejudice on individuals and society as a whole.

First of all, the role of the country holding the Presidency of the European Council is to be an unbiased mediator, “an honest broker”. The Presidency set the agenda for Council meetings, so it is important that the Presidency use their judgement to discuss the issues that are important to the Union as a whole. This means that the Spanish Presidency putting forward their own proposals on questions that are clearly most important to them and not the other member states is not very tactful and actually rather taboo.
Second, the proposal was actually on making Catalan, Basque and Galician official languages of the EU. This means that all documents produced by the Union now, before and in the future have to be available in those languages. What is more, EU nationals can contact the EU in an official language and expect an answer back in that same language. Governments can also request official documents from other EU countries to be translated into their own language. Just to illustrate how big of an operation this is, it took Irish from 2007 until 2022 to enjoy its status as an official language in practice and not just in theory. It takes time to educate Basque-Estonian and Galician-Romanian translators and interpreters!
Thirdly, it is costly. Of course, the cost might be one worth accepting! I think the points on representation and sense of belonging are good ones. However, there were several questions regarding how the inclusion of these languages was to be funded and the Spanish proposal did not flesh out these details. I feel like you make light of the concern that the inclusion of Spanish minority languages would trigger demands that other minority languages be included; imagine the cost of having 60 more languages translated and interpreted. I don’t think it’s strange to hesitate, especially since all EU member states are not interested in increasing EU spending. I heard that Spain had decided to propose making Spanish minority languages official one at a time in the future, a decision I think was sensible in terms of securing EU-wide support.
Finally, I find it strange that you fight for the inclusion of Spanish minority languages but then dismiss other languages for being smaller. All official languages of the EU member states are official languages of the EU except Luxembourgish and Turkish (official language of Cyprus). In the EU, states are members on an equal basis, irrespective of how large they are. This means that small official languages have the same status as large ones. This might feel wrong because it favours minorities over majorities or pluralities. Then again, other parts of decision-making in the EU favour majorities, of which Spain is the fourth largest (after Germany, France and Italy).
Also, how does an organisation with 24 official languages have “hatred of language/cultural diversity”? Like, it’s got to be doing at least okay on the diversity assessment.
Sweden saying they'll vote against allowing the use of Catalan, Basque and Galician in the European Union Parliament because "there's lots of minority languages and we can't allow them all" is so funny because CATALAN HAS MORE SPEAKERS THAN SWEDISH
Catalan is the 13th most spoken language in the EU. It has more than 10 million speakers, which means it has more speakers than other languages that are already official EU languages like Maltese (530,000), Estonian (1.2 million), Latvian (1.5 million), Irish (1.6 million), Slovene (2.5 million), Lithuanian (3 million), Slovak (5 million), Finnish (5.8 million), Danish (6 million), Swedish (10 million), and Bulgarian (10 million).
Neither Galician (3 million) nor Basque (750,000) would still be the least spoken languages to be allowed in the EU representative bodies.
But even if any of them did, so what? Why do speakers of smaller languages deserve less rights than those of bigger languages? How are we supposed to feel represented by the EU Parliament when our representatives aren't even allowed to speak our language, but the dominant groups can speak theirs?
It all comes down to the hatred of language/cultural diversity and the belief that it's an inconvenience, that only the languages of independent countries have any kind of value while the rest should be killed off. After all, isn't that what Sweden has been trying to do to the indigenous Sami people for centuries?

The Lawyer and the Author: Kypros Chrysostomides’ Contribution to Legal Literature
Tumblr media
Kypros Chrysostomides was a celebrated lawyer and a prolific author whose contributions to legal literature have left a lasting mark on the academic and professional legal communities. His writings reflect a lifetime of engagement with complex legal, political, and human rights issues, blending rigorous legal analysis with practical insights. Through his books, research papers, and public commentary, Chrysostomides provided a nuanced understanding of international law, constitutional reforms, and the intersection of law and diplomacy.
One of his most influential works, The Republic of Cyprus: A Study in International Law, offers a detailed exploration of the island’s constitutional evolution, the legal ramifications of the Turkish invasion, and Cyprus’s accession to the European Union. This book remains a cornerstone of Cypriot legal scholarship, providing a legal framework for understanding the geopolitical challenges faced by the island. It offers insights into how international law can be applied to territorial disputes and human rights violations, making it relevant for scholars and practitioners beyond Cyprus.
Chrysostomides’s scholarly writings extended beyond the Cyprus Problem, reflecting his deep engagement with international legal issues. His research often addressed the role of smaller states in international law, exploring how they can leverage legal mechanisms to assert their sovereignty and protect their interests. His works emphasised the importance of upholding human rights and the rule of law in international relations, contributing to ongoing discussions about state responsibility, conflict resolution, and justice.
In addition to his focus on public and international law, Chrysostomides’s expertise in business law led to significant contributions to corporate governance and tax regulation. His writings provided valuable insights for practitioners navigating the complexities of cross-border transactions, corporate compliance, and tax planning, particularly in Cyprus’s position as a hub for international business. These contributions made him a respected voice in academic circles and the legal profession.
Chrysostomides’s impact extended beyond legal academia, as he actively contributed to public discourse on law and governance. His Greek and international publications articles reflected his commitment to educating the public and fostering a deeper understanding of legal principles. These writings often focused on the importance of transparency, accountability, and public participation in legal reforms, themes that resonated throughout his career.
His dual role as a lawyer and an author exemplifies the intersection of theory and practice. Chrysostomides analysed legal issues and applied his knowledge in real-world scenarios, representing clients in high-profile cases before the European Court of Human Rights and advising the Cypriot government on constitutional matters. His ability to translate complex legal concepts into accessible language made his works valuable to legal professionals, policymakers, and the general public.
Chrysostomides’s contributions to legal literature were not limited to academic works. He also authored two children’s books, showcasing his commitment to education and cultural enrichment. These books, integrated into the Cypriot school curriculum, reflect his belief in the power of storytelling to inspire future generations and promote values of justice and fairness from a young age.
His final work, International Law: Violation and Decline, published shortly before his passing in 2022, underscores his enduring dedication to legal scholarship. In this book, he reflects on the erosion of legal norms in the context of geopolitical conflicts, using Cyprus as a case study. The publication is a culmination of his life's work, offering timely insights into international law's challenges in an increasingly polarised world.
Kypros Chrysostomides’s legacy in legal literature lies in the depth of his research and the breadth of topics he addressed. His ability to engage with complex legal issues while remaining grounded in real-world applications has made his writings essential for anyone interested in law, governance, and human rights. Through his books and research, he leaves a body of work that continues influencing legal thought and practice in Cyprus and beyond. His contributions exemplify the power of literature to shape public discourse, promote justice, and inspire future generations of legal professionals.

Bulgaria among EU countries shows lowest public debt
Bulgaria maintained one of the lowest public debt-to-GDP ratios in the EU at 22.9 % in 2023, while the overall public deficit in the euro area and the EU increased slightly. The public deficit increased to 3.6 % of GDP in the euro area and 3.5 % in the EU, while public debt levels declined across the region, Novinite reports.
The ratio of government budget deficit to GDP will increase slightly in both the euro area and the European Union (EU) in 2023, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU. In the eurozone, the ratio rose from 3.5 per cent in 2022 to 3.6 per cent, and in the EU from 3.2 per cent to 3.5 per cent. However, the ratio of public debt to GDP fell: in the euro area from 89.5 per cent at the end of 2022 to 87.4 per cent at the end of 2023, and in the EU from 82.5 per cent to 80.8 per cent.
These figures, based on the national reports of EU Member States in their second notification for 2024 on the Excessive Deficit Procedure (EDP), cover the period from 2020 to 2023 and are consistent with the ESA 2010 system of national accounts.
Most EU countries recorded deficits in 2023, except Denmark (+3.3%), Cyprus (+2.0%), Ireland (+1.5%) and Portugal (+1.2%). The largest deficits were recorded in Italy (-7.2%), Hungary (-6.7%) and Romania (-6.5%), with ten Member States exceeding the deficit threshold of 3% of GDP.
Public debt ratios varied widely across the EU at the end of 2023. Estonia (20.2 per cent), Bulgaria (22.9 per cent) and Luxembourg (25.5 per cent) had the lowest ratios, while Greece (163.9 per cent), Italy (134.8 per cent) and France (109.9 per cent) had the highest. In total, 13 Member States had debt ratios above 60 per cent of GDP.
Public expenditure in the euro area for 2023 totalled 49.5 % of GDP and revenues 45.9 %, compared to 49.0 % and 45.5 % respectively in the EU. The ratio of revenues to expenditures has decreased compared to 2022.
Eurostat has expressed concern about the quality of Estonia’s data for 2023 due to problems with the timing of reporting military expenditure, which affects the deficit by about 0.4 per cent of GDP. This issue is being discussed with the Estonian authorities for future corrections.
