this is a genuine, curious question! what's appealing 2 u about jackunzel :^] ??
Sure, I can talk about why I ship Jackunzel!!!
@gryffindorkxdraws has some posts about why she likes Jackunzel here, here, and here, so those are a pretty good rundown of reasons to supplement mine. But Iâll make a list of my own!
Why Jackunzel Owns My Entire Soul: An Essay in Disorganized Bullet Points ~I dig the sun/moon symbolism! Like Jack was chosen by the moon and Rapunzel has the powers of the sun. Itâs such a nice contrast, and it also lends itself really well to star-crossed lover-type fantasy/fairy tale AUs (which I am ALWAYS a sucker for!) ~From what little we know about Jackâs preference in girls (i.e. the slight crush he seemed to have on Tooth), Rapunzel seems like EXACTLY his type--bubbly, energetic, optimistic girls with a bit of a maternal streak. I think even the RotG director confirmed Punz is the kind of girl Jack would like! ~Jack also absolutely seems like Punzelâs type--if Flynn/Eugene is anything to go by, sheâs kind of into sarcastic troublemakers with a hidden soft side XD And she also seems to like guys who are good with kids, if Eugene reading âThe Adventures of Flynnigan Riderâ to the younger kids at the orphanage is anything to go by! ~They both seem to be naturally pretty social people who suffered a lot from being isolated for a really long time--Jack had it worse, obviously (300 years--OUCH), but it was rough on Punz as well, growing up for 18 years with no one for company but Mother Gothel and Pascal. Jack, spending all that time with no one able to see him and only the guardians (who werenât even really his friends from much of that time) for company, would understand that pain a lot. I feel like theyâd be able to connect on a really deep and intimate level about the pain they felt at being isolated for so long, and this would give them a really strong bond that I can easily see turning into something romantic. ~Theyâre both just such genuinely lively and fun-loving people, and I can imagine them having a ton of fun together and just genuinely really enjoying spending time together. Like imagine the snowball fights!!! The ice-skating!!! The sledding!!! Chasing each other through the forest!!! Jack grabbing onto Punz and her wrapping her hair around a tree and swinging them around Tarzan-style!!! Like literally the entire scene where Punzel leaves her tower for the first time and is goofing off and doing Silly Shit for like an hour straight??? Like man...if Jack was there, theyâd have the TIME OF THEIR LIVES together. Idk I just really love couples who I think would have a lot of fun together, itâs so pure <3 ~Theyâre both so loving!!! Like Rapunzel goes out of her way to be supportive to an entire tavernful of terrifying âruffians and thugsâ because they have dreams, and sheâs so sweet to Flynn/Eugene no matter how many times he snarks at her and tries to alienate her!!! And Jack loves loves LOVES entertaining kids, and it genuinely makes him so happy to give them snow days :3 I just feel like theyâd shower each other with love, and itâs honestly no less than they both deserve!!! ~Rapunzel especially is such an affectionate person, and I can see her doing just absolutely everything in her power to make Jack feel as seen and as loved as possible after 300 years of being alone. And god, does he NEED it, too. Like no way is this boy NOT touch-starved, and with some MAJOR self-esteem issues (although heâs good at hiding them). Rapunzel would do absolutely everything in her power to build him up and make him feel wanted and validated--and since itâs in her nature to do so, it would never feel like a burden or an effort for her. And sheâd love him so much that hyping him up just comes naturally! Sheâs just got the kind of nurturing personality that someone as affection-starved as Jack really needs, and I think she could help him feel safe, comfortable, and loved in a way a lot of people couldnât. ~For all the fun theyâd have together, I also feel like Jack needs someone to ground him a bit and provide the Brain Cell to perhaps reign in that Unchecked Chaotic Energy of his sometimes XD Rapunzel certainly has a smart and rational side--I mean, she charted STARS as a teenager!!! She figured out how to get this stranger she captured to take her into the kingdom to see the lanterns!!! Girl can be spontaneous and goofy, sure, but sheâs got smarts and kind of a mature streak that I think mesh with Jack really well. Heâd never feel like she was a wet blanket stifling his fun, but sheâd also have a sense of when to transition away from goofing off and focus on responsibilities (princess and guardian responsibilities in this case, I suppose?) ~On the flipside, I donât see Rapunzel as being someone annoyed or irritated by Jackâs antics. She might like...gently scold him if he takes a prank too far, but she never finds his shenanigans to be grating and tiresome the way other people might. Rather, I think sheâd be endlessly entertained by him. Like in his memory reel when heâs dicking around pretending to be a deer, sheâd get a kick out of that! Jack would always be trying to make her laugh and make her smile, and Punz would love that so much about him! ~Theyâre both searching for a deeper meaning and a deeper sense of purpose in their lives. Rapunzel entertains herself with hobbies, but doesnât feel like her life has really âbegunâ and is desperate to find out if her hunch is right and the floating lights really ARE meant for her. Jack has no idea why he was chosen by the moon or what heâs meant to do, and heâs determined to find out so he can finally have a sense of purpose. Rapunzel clearly wants a sense of purpose too, since she wants to do more with her life than pass the time with hobbies. I can definitely see them bonding over this! ~Theyâre both just so adventurous, and love to explore! Rapunzel is curious, and loves to read and learn, and she wants more than anything else to see the world and all it has to offer. Jack loves adventuring and flying around the globe spreading winter and fun, and he could show Punz everything she ever wanted to see. A perfect match, honestly! ~Aesthetically I LOVE the similarities!!! Like they both like to go barefoot, kinda showing their free-spirited natures. And I love how theyâre both naturally brunette, but had their hair turned a different color by magic. Itâs a little thing, but I think itâs a really neat parallel and it helps cement me thinking they really ARE perfect for each other in every little way! Haha XD AND they both have small green companions, and as of Ralph Breaks The Internet, theyâre hoodie buddies as well!!! Not that surface-level parallels like that are actually that significant BUT I just think theyâre neat XD ~While I am fond of Flynnzel/Eugenzel (still my favorite canon Disney couple!), finding out their age gap is around 8 years admittedly made me a bit uncomfy and just pushed me further into loving Jackunzel as an alternative option. I still really love Eugene as a character and adore his and Punzelâs dynamic, but these days I prefer their relationship as more of a big bro/little sis type thing. Jack I think is the best match for Rapunzel romantically, and Eugene I prefer with Elsa--or poooossibly Tooth, Astrid, or Zarina, if I read a fic that sells the pairing well enough! ~On a related note, I was into Jack x Tooth the first time I watched RotG, but after discovering Jackunzel, there was no going back--I was hooked! Rewatching the movie, Tooth strikes me more as a mom figure/âfun auntâ for Jack, and I actually prefer her with Bunnymund (I am WEAK for âthe grumpy one is soft for the sunshine oneâ lmao)
Well, I think that just about covers it!!! Iâll add more reasons if I think of them! Thank you for the ask, and Iâm always happy to answer more ship asks about CGI crossover pairings :3
Also @ the anon who asked for Jackunzel headcanons--fear not, I shall provide them!!! I just wanna make a complete list and accumulate all the ones from my various fics so itâs gonna take a while XD

Should Auld Acquaintance be Forgot
Honestly, Emma was less mad about the whole thing than she expected. Disappointed, that was the word. And everyone knew that disappointed was far worse than mad.Â
Because being dateless on New Yearâs Eve was one thing. Being dateless while pining over a roommate with a secret Match.com profile and apparent relationship-type desires that were the complete opposite of her wasâ
Disappointing, really.Â
If Killian kissed anybody, she was going to drink an entire bottle of champagne by herself.Â
-----
Rating: Teen, kissing, far too many Grinch references
Word Count: 9.2K
AN: Today is our last festive prompt! Or, at least one thatâs a stand-alone story. Our said prompts come from @kmomof4â who asked for âi don't wanna get up-- you're comfy."// "i'm cold. come closer." //"i love you a lot, but please stop trying to cook me dinner, you suck.â And I got all three in. As always, I cannot thank you guys enough for clicking and reading and saying such nice things. Hereâs to a 2021 thatâs full of even more fic, satisfying TV storylines and lots of fictional characters making out.Â
Also on Ao3 if thatâs your jam

âShit.â
âMerry Christmas.â
Rolling her eyes over the top of the phone in her hand, Ruby didnât look particularly amused at the distinct lack of enthusiasm in Emmaâs voice. That was something of a theme. For likeâthe last thirty-six hours, but also the majority of their relationship, and none this should have come as a surprise, only sheâd had a lot of wine in the last forty-six minutes, and it might have been catching up with her. Was definitely catching up with her.Â
âHow much did you pay for the garbage alcohol youâve been shoving at me?â Emma asked archly, and she was only slightly worried about getting home. Her head felt muddled. Like there were too many thoughts, and this time of year always did that to her brain, and her consciousness, and at least eighty-two percent of this was Mary Margaretâs fault.Â
For deciding that they were going to have a party.Â
On New Yearâs Eve.Â
Like complete cliches.Â
âIâll have you know,â Ruby drawled, eyes dropping back to her phone and whatever noise it was making, âthat I paid at least twelve dollars forââ
ââLies,â Elsa yelled, and it was a testament their current situation that sheâd raised her voice at all. Nothing like that ever happened, and the overall roll rate of Rubyâs eyes was going to give her a migraine.Â
Her phone made another noise.Â
âSheâs lying to you,â Elsa added. âStraight to your face.â
Sheâd still be staring down a dateless New Yearâs Eve, butâ
Emma scrunched her nose. âWhat else is new?â
âOh, I take offense to that,â Ruby cried, but she was almost too obviously distracted, and the inability of this conversation to be concise was starting to grate on Emmaâs nerves. Or what remained of them. Maybe she was the Grinch.
No, that wasnât right. The Grinch had an enlarged heart, which Emma certainly did not have â and that was nice and appropriately festive for the season, the Grinch, not her, and he had a dog. Emma didnât have a dog. If she had a dog, there was no possible way sheâd be annoyed as she was.Â
Whatever, honestly.Â
Her date, or lack thereof, was not important, and she was going to drink this entire bottle of Barefoot Moscato, price tag be damned, and then she was going to figure out some way to get home. Without falling over.Â
Also, the Grinch didnât have a roommate. Unless you counted the dog, and Emma didnât think Max could conceivably hold so many titles in a twenty-two minute animated Christmas special, and she imagined the Grinch was also not pining after his dog slash roommate slash stand-in reindeer. Thatâd be weird.Â
For a twenty-two minute animated Christmas special.Â
Sheâd never seen the Jim Carey version. Or that other one with Benedict whatever-his-name-is.
Away from dating apps and wine that was very likely going to give her one hell of a headache, and Killian would at least make sure she was vaguely hydrated before she collapsed on some sort of horizontal surface. She wasnât going to be picky about which one, honestly.Â
âWhy are there so many versions of the Grinch?â
Ruby didnât look at her. Her eyebrows moved, though. Lifted ever so slightly into her hairline, and Elsaâs glance wasnât exactly subtle, and Emma needed to go home.Â
âExpand on that for me,â Ruby said, lips twisted as soon as she stopped talking. Something was wrong. Well, more wrong. In an alcohol-saturated sort of way that included all those previously discussed mobile dating apps.Â
âThere are so many Grinches,â Emma said. âYou think thatâs a commentary on society? Like as a whole? That we need toââ
ââEmbrace the spirit of Christmas?â
âBecause we as a general population are all assholes?â
âYouâve had too much wine.â
âNot a question,â Elsa mumbled, elbow bumping Emmaâs shoulder when she perched on the edge of the sofa, and Rubyâs eyes were still doing that thing. Widening every now and then â a flash of understanding mixing in with surprise, and Emma wasnât sure how many muscles were in a human thumb, but she figured all of Rubyâs were getting quite a workout, scrolling as quickly as they were.Â
âIf I have,â Emma muttered, âit is entirely Rubyâs fault. Who buys pink Moscato and expects their guests not to drink the whole bottle?â
âSeems to suggest youâre a guest, though,â Ruby said, âand thatâs awfully prim and proper.â
Ruby couldnât possibly be Cindy Lou Who in this metaphor.Â
Emma couldnât argue with that. Mostly because sheâd drank so much of the pink Moscato. âOk, ok, forget the wine for two seconds. And the Grinch. Why were you making proclamations before? They were very loud andââ
Nothing changed. The phone was still there â wobbling slightly because it seemed Rubyâs forearm strength was lacking just a bit, but the screen didnât change, and Emma was certain this was somehow also Taylor Swiftâs fault. For rerecording Love Story and letting Ryan Reynolds use it in that Match.com ad.Â
âSoâŚâ
Although really that made it more Scooter whatever-his-last-name-wasâs fault, for stealing all of Taylor Swiftâs songs and being a noted and massive dick, and Emmaâs inability to remember anyoneâs last name was clearly something of a personality failing.Â
âThoughts?â Ruby pressed.Â
At least twelve-thousand, but none of them seemed especially interested in being said out loud, and Emmaâs tongue felt like it was simultaneously growing and dissolving in her mouth. None of it was particularly comfortable, what legitimately felt like cotton balls bursting out of her cheeks and making it difficult to breathe, and she should have lived in a cave. With her dog and the inexplicable set of antlers she owned to make that same dog look like a reindeer, and then she wouldnât have to be staring at Killian Jonesâ dating profile on goddamn Match.com eight days before a New Yearâs Eve party she only marginally wanted to attend.Â
âDonât people just use Tinder now?âÂ
Emmaâs voice did not sound like her own. Presumably because of the tongue thing and the cotton ball analogy, and she wondered if the Uber driver she was inevitably going to request would be especially annoyed by her desire to blast Taylor Swift in the backseat.Â
Sheâd give them five stars.Â
No matter what â because she wasnât an asshole, but especially if they let Emma blast Taylor Swift in the backseat.Â
Ruby rolled her eyes. âYouâre very old; you know that?âÂ
Her face was very warm.Â
âBuy me better wine.â
Emma had never gone into cardiac arrest before, but the sinking feeling in her chest was sudden and a little jarring and she tried very hard to swallow down the wad of emotion currently taking up residence in the middle of her throat. Didnât work.Â
âOnly nine bucks, honestly?â
Failed spectacularly, quite honestly.Â
âI donât want to know,â she announced. âWhatever he put on there is hisââ
âWhat Killian does or doesnât do in the world of modern dating has nothing to do with me,â Emma said, only a little disappointed because she didnât think people got multiple miracles in their lives and to having hers ensure her voice didnât shake over those particular words in that particular order felt lame.Â
âI donât care.â
All things considered.Â
Scrunching her nose, Rubyâs nod lacked a certain sense of honesty. âSure, sure, sure, wellââ She shrugged. ââHeâs here. Being available. Presumably for New Yearâs, andâŚâ
Emma waited for the rest. All the reasons sheâd heard before, and her friends were convinced. Something about inevitable, and happily ever after, but that second part was mostly Mary Margaret and it was likely easier to believe in the fairy tale when you were living it.Â
Pessimism was also fairly lame. As far as defining traits went.Â
âWhat are youââ Elsa started, but then she was moving and her teeth clicked exactly five times, as soon as she looked at the screen, and Emma was not capable of dealing with any of this. Watching her friends gape at her, Rubyâs phone still held loosely in her hand, and neither one of them objected when she finally managed to get to her feet.Â
And the Uber driver didnât offer to play any Taylor Swift, but Emma didnât ask and she didnât blast it in the backseat.Â
So, that felt like a victory. Which she desperately needed â to counteract the state of her pancreas and half a dozen other internal organs when her thumb hovered over the button, and it took at least two minutes and twelve seconds for Match.com to download.Â
She should have waited until she was on wifi.Â
To say that Emmaâs relationship with Killian Jones was complicated would be something of an understatement. And she wouldnât use the word relationship.Â
He was her friend.Â
Her very good looking friend, with stupid eyes that regularly flashed at her like he was too aware of the mush-like state it sent her into, and he was friends with her brother, and once upon a time sheâd briefly considered hating him, but that never really stuck and he made hot chocolate better than anyone she knew. Refused to use the prepackaged mix. Did something on the oven that Emma didnât entirely understand, and never trusted herself to try on her own, and Killian was never late with his half of the rent.Â
Or any of the utilities.Â
Living together was a decision born of convenience and the extra room Killian had once Will moved out, but it also made a lot of sense and it was good. Really good. Would have been great if Emma wasnât pining after him and his stupid eyes like some lovelorn idiot, but she had gotten almost impossibly good at rationalizing the whole thing in the last few years, andâ
âShit, shit, shit,â she chanted, slumped in the corner of the couch with her knees threatening to impale her chin and there must have been a record for frustrated cursing while staring at a roommate's dating profile. Sheâd definitely passed it, like, seven minutes ago.Â
Scrolling down only led to scrolling back up, twisting her lower lip between her teeth while staring at photos and lists and options she was sure came from some AI or relationship-type algorithm and coming to terms with the end of the world was harder than she expected it to be. Â
At least the end of her love life.Â
Of which there wasnât much to begin with, so it probably wasnât very hard for the whole thing to topple over, but Emma was feeling especially melodramatic and they needed to buy some WD-40. For their very squeaky door.Â
âHey,â Killian said, shrugging out of his jacket and it was apparently snowing out. Flakes dusted his shoulder, clung to several strands of hair, and Emma couldnât melt into the couch. They couldnât afford to buy another one. âThat canât be good for your spine.â
Humming, Killian didnât bother brushing the snow out of his hair before he walked forward, falling onto the other end of the couch and pulling Emmaâs sock-covered feet into his lap. âAre they any cookies left?â
âIâm going to tell Mary Margaret youâre a cookie glutton andââ
Sixteen guys had messaged her already.Â
âSo Iâve heard. Whatcha you doing?â
Maybe that was a compliment. Emma didnât think so, though.Â
She couldnât believe she had to make a profile. To stalk her roommate. And his interests. There were a lot of interests on Killianâs Match.com profile.Â
Strictly speaking, she didnât have much experience with shoulders and their proclivity to being rested on, but she liked to believe Killianâs was one of the more comfortable out there. Her head fit very well, at least.Â
âNothing.â
So as to avoid any lingering after-effects from its continued failure.Â
âIâve got twenty-seven bucks on him asking at the party,â Killian said, âbut Locksley thinks heâs just going to lose any sense of self-control and blurt it out before, I justââ
Emmaâs phone dinged.Â
Again. Multiple times, in quick succession â and she should have turned off notifications for that stupid app, but she wasnât really using it for its intended purpose and Killian was staring at her. With a look that made it all too clear he knew what was going on.Â
That didnât make her feel any better.Â
âRuby said she was thinking about bringing someone,â he muttered, âto, uhâto the thing. The New Yearâs thing.â
The air shifted. Crackled with electricity Emma knew she was imagining, and want she was only barely managing to temper and if Will did propose to Belle on New Yearâs Eve she refused to be held accountable for her emotional reaction. Sheâd totally cry.Â
âCall it a thing again.â
Ruby would never let her hear the end of that.
Shaking his head brusquely, Killianâs grip tightened around Emmaâs ankle. She had no idea he was holding her ankle â fingers wrapped all the way around the joint until the tips threatened to touch because apparently his fingers were that long, and sheâd probably only obsess about that for like the next few years, or so. Which seemed reasonable.Â
âAnyone good?â he asked, low and gruff and whatever was back in the middle of her throat did not appear intent on leaving any time soon. No matter how many times Emma swallowed.Â
Or how often Killianâs eyes flickered. Towards her throat.
The idea never even crossed her mind, honestly.Â
Flinching the way she did only guaranteed that Emmaâs spine collided with the arm of their couch, but she was at least less inclined to melt and she supposed romantic beggars could not be choosers. âYuh huh,â she said, âand youâre well acquainted with the noises and the reasons behind the noise?â
That probably wasnât important.Â
And just like thatâit was fine. Well, maybe not fine, but at last fine adjacent, and something inching closer to normal, and Killian kissed her temple again before he stood up.Â
âYouâre avoiding my question.â
She didnât pick up her phone until she went to bed, dragging every blanket they owned behind her down the hallway.Â
On the ever-growing list of problems Emma had during a week when problems were supposed to be non-existent, Killian's Match.com profile had very easily cemented itself at the top of the list.Â
It didnât match â her, at least. Every single thing he was apparently looking for in some sort of potential life partner was the exact opposite of every single thing that made Emma her. Musical tastes were diametrically opposed, movies sheâd never once seen him watch in the legitimate decades sheâd known him were praised with the kind of adjectives even Robert Ebert would scoff at. The pictures were good, but Emma knew that was more a result of her attraction to her roommate than anything else, and he said he liked people who cooked.Â
She couldnât cook.Â
She tried.Â
Twenty-four hours after the weird couch incident, which was a name only Emma was using, she was sure, and the smoke alarm had gone off andâ
This was Rubyâs fault. And Taylor Swift. Whose new album was very good, and made for perfect and consistent pining music.Â
She was so disappointed she was positive she reeked with it.
âCooking,â Emma said, like that was an explanation and not an excuse and she was definitely using too many of her personal miracles. âNothing caught on fire!â
Lolling his head to the side, Killian leveled her with an exasperated expression. Brows pinched together and that shade of blue wasnât quite as sharp, but was still somehow almost amused and she didnât think the oven was supposed to make that noise. It was very loud. âLack of flames is not a sign of success, love,â he said, âand itâsâah, fuck.â
The smoke alarm was louder than the oven.Â
Blasting through their apartment and, Emma was sure, through the entire building, the beep hit its rhythmic stride quickly, so she reacted like an adult to the whole situation by gritting her teeth and squeezing her eyes shut. Killian breezed by her, swinging open another squeaky door and fumbling through what sounded like several dozen boxes and he cursed. More than once.
Emma nodded.Â
Emma cracked open one eye. âWe do, Iââ
Their neighbors must hate them. Rightfully so.Â
âWe definitely own a broom,â she promised, âweâre not savages. We clean.â
Graham was probably very nice.
âWas there a reason for that?â
Emma swallowed. Still didnât help.Â
âSwan.â
âAlright,â Killian said softly, âcâmere.â
Saying that what happened next happened quicker than Emma expected it to, also suggested that Emma expected it to happen at all, which was one of the bigger lies sheâd told in the last week or so, and she was really growing a metric shit ton of lies, so that was especially impressive and she yelped very loudly. As soon as hands gripped her hips, lifting her off the floor and directing her underneath the questionably loud smoke detector.Â
âThis could wake the dead,â she proclaimed, shouting the words because if they were going to descend into total farce, then she was really going to lean into it.
Killianâs head fell to her stomach. If she died right there, she hoped he didnât drop her. Although, sheâd also be dead, soâshe probably wouldnât notice.Â
âJust turn it off, love.â
She hated all that music.Â
âSee,â he grunted, âthat makes it sound like we donât have a broom, andââ Adjusting her, one of her legs twisted around his, something Emma was going to claim as instinct and not that same want that was another one of her more defining characteristics, and he definitely exhaled. Loudly. And directly into her t-shirt. ââSwan, I really need you to fix this, love.â
Using his shoulder as leverage, and keeping her leg exactly where it was, she still had to stretch her arm out and it took far more movement than either one of them could apparently handle silently for her to press the button that fixed everything.Â
Despised The Godfather, on some sort of fundamental level and Kay deserved better than Michael Corleone, even if that version of Al Pacino was almost kind of attractive, butâ
Relatively speaking, at least.Â
He didnât lift his head immediately. Or drop her. That probably wasnât a metaphor.Â
Emmaâs metaphors regularly sucked, anyway.Â
âPizza or Chinese?â
Chuckling into her stomach, Killianâs laugh warmed her from the inside out and kept the goosebumps there and sheâd kind of forgotten he was shirtless. Idiot bastard, that was her.
Graham Humbert had owned more plaid shirts than anyone Emma had ever seen.Â
âOrder extra egg rolls, and Iâm in,â Killian said, finally working her back to the ground and they didnât move. They stood there. Staring at each other, and conducting more inventory, and Emma could only imagine the penance sheâd have to do for keeping her stomach in its correct spot.Â
âDeal.â
âSheâs in love with him.â
âWhich part?â Ruby asked. âHow in love Emma is with Jones or whether or not we were acknowledging his shitty dating profile?âÂ
âDoesnât have to,â Elsa muttered over the top of her half-empty glass. âIt basically broadcasts out of her.â
They took the batteries out of the smoke detector a day later.Â
âEither or, I guess.â
Not the safest thing theyâd ever done, but Emma kept trying to cook and failing spectacularly and she was certain the people at the Chinese restaurant fourteen blocks away knew their order based solely on the sound of her voice when she called.Â
âDoes this have a name?â
Slumped as she was over the edge of the bar, Emma barely noticed the lift in Killianâs eyebrows, but that also might have been her tendency to be preoccupied with his mouth and he was smiling at her. Wide. Meaningfulâly.Â
Distractingly.Â
At some point that afternoon, sheâd decided she needed to respond to Grahamâs messages. Or, wellâkeep responding. Thereâd been some conversation, what might have been construed as flirting if Emmaâs thumbs didnât keep cramping up while they flew across her phoneâs keyboard, but that definitely wasnât a sign either, and the overall lightness in her body was likely a direct result of whatever blue-colored alcoholic concoction Killian had put in front of her forty-seven minutes before. There were gummyâthings floating in it.Â
Or there had been.Â
Sheâd eaten them.Â
Her mouth felt a little numb.Â
âWhat do you think we should call it?â
Propping her chin on her hand made Emma wobble a bit, Killianâs lips twitching again. Idiot bastard asshole. Poor Graham. She was a jerk. And his eyes were getting brighter.Â
Killianâs. Not Grahamâs.Â
She had no idea what Grahamâs eyes did.Â
âAre you serving me unnamed alcohol?â Emma asked, and she was sure she did not slur her words the way it sounded.Â
He shrugged.Â
Good thing the holiday season was nearly over.Â
And Willâs reaction was far too loud, tossing a towel over his back before he draped himself across Killianâs back, hooking his own chin over that slightly lifted shoulder. âHeâs showing off, Em. Thatâs all it is. Are you going to die, though?â
At the bar.Â
âYour tongue is blue.â
Four seats away from Leroy the regular.Â
âDonât move so quickly, Swan,â Killian said, a hand finding her cheek and that was fine. Totally fine. Great, even. Superâ
Califragilisticexpialidocious.Â
So, she was more drunk than sheâd been. Like, ever.Â
âYour fault,â she mumbled. Burrowing further into his palm was not an option Emma had, so naturally thatâs exactly what she did and Will made another noise. âSomething to add, Scarââ Emma paused, lifting an impatient finger when both men in front of her dared to laugh. ââLet, you jerky jerkface.â
âYou will find out whenever else does, kid,â Will guaranteed. âAnd there were at least four different types of rum in that swill he gave you.â
That would have annoyed Belle.
Humming, Will untwisted his limbs from Killian, a different hand finding her cheek and the strands of hair that were hanging over her eyes and she scowled when he tapped her chin. âTrying to impress you,â Will repeated intently.
âIs heââ Emmaâs brain couldnât keep up. Thoughts rushed through her, firing synapses that were only passably functional, and the lights from the jukebox across the room were starting to float in her vision. Pressing her fingers into her cheek, Emma knew the skin there moved, but she also could not feel a single thing andââYouâre laughing at me.â
Her head hurt. Ached, even through the haze sheâd only recently evolved into, and Emma hated bowling. Was absolutely God awful at it. The kind of awful that required bumpers whenever theyâd gone, and they used to go when they were kids. On New Yearâs Eve afternoon, some tradition that Ruth had come up with and David honored, even after he and Mary Margaret had segued into happily ever after, and Emma could count on one hand how many times sheâd crested the 100-point mark.Â
âI am,â he said, âbut youâre also sloshed, so Iâm willing to give you a pass. And no.â
She felt oddly similar now.Â
Playing a game she wasnât very good at, with more gutter balls than any self-respecting adult should record. Eight pounds of cylindrical force kept rolling through her, threatening anything in its path, but not hitting what it was supposed to, and she also could have eaten an entire tub of bowling alley snacks right now.Â
âWhy are fries better in a bowling alley? Like, better than anywhere else.âÂ
Willâs eyes narrowed. âBetter than Shake Shack?â
Blinking continued to be one of Emmaâs less impressive reactions, but she was stuck on that bowling ball metaphor and Killianâs arm around her shoulders made it impossible to talk.Â
ââSâtotally different.â
âYou ready, love?â
âWeâre leaving, love,â Killian said, and there was at least part of her that was smart enough to pick on repeat endearments. And then promptly cling to them. In her swollen heart.Â
âFor?â
âMake sure you brush your tongue too tonight, Em,â Will advised, âotherwise that blue is going to stick.â
Saluting left her more off-balance than sheâd been all night, laughter echoing behind them as Killian pulled the door shut and heâd ordered them a car. Emma honestly had no idea how they got in said car, but then they were moving and she was only slightly dizzy and heâ
He made another noise, slumping next to her, which made it even easier for Emma to touch as much of him as possible and he didnât object. She didnât think he would. Ever, actually.Â
âSmell really good.â
God, poor Graham.Â
She was the worst.Â
David played hockey when he was a kid.Â
âNot as such, no,â Killian said, âjust thinking we might be able to add something new andââ His shoulder shifted under her cheek, Emmaâs soft hum of disapproval making him smile. She still didnât check. ââNot that we havenât been making money, but...people gotta have a schtick.â
No sound. Nothing except engines, and there could only be one engine in a car, Emma was fairly positive, so that didnât really make sense and Killian stared ahead when she tilted her head up. âSometimes,â Killian admitted softly, âbut, uhâlike I said, just trying to get something that might help us a little more and weddings are expensive, yâknow?â
âWhatever,â Emma groaned, âjustâIâm saying itâs a good bar.â
Thinking about melting as often as she was, was starting to become patently ridiculous.Â
âYouâre trying to come up with ridiculous bachelorette party drinksââ
With such God awful interests in the opposite sex.Â
Emma rapped her knuckles against his chest. âTo help pay for Scarletâs wedding?â
The world was a joke. Happy Holidays.Â
âYouâre not getting ready with Lucas or Elsa or anything tomorrow, are you?â
Huh. No grand slam, then.Â
Of all the questions she definitely wasnât prepared for, that was at the bottom of the list. Emma was not actually making any of these lists. âThis isnât prom.â
Being hungover on New Yearâs Eve was one of the crueler jokes the universe had played on her in the last week or so.Â
âYeah, ok,â she said, letting her head drop back to his shoulder and Emma wasnât sure why it sounded like he exhaled. In something almost like relief. Eyes fluttering the way they were, she must have imagined it, another ridiculous metaphor and even dumber analogy and her groan was especially pitiful when the car stopped. No way her stomach was going to stay where it was supposed to for the rest of the night.
All of Emma hurt, muscles she hadnât been aware she was in possession of seemingly rising up in revolt of her very existence, and she couldnât really turn her head. Which endlessly delighted Ruby in a way that was making her reconsider their friendship, and Killian kept glancing in their direction. His arm bumped Emmaâs no less than twenty-four times in the car over.Â
And for as much as she wanted to crawl under several mountains of blankets and consider all her romantic shortcomings, something in the back of Emmaâs mind preened a bit under his flitting gaze, trying not to meet his eyes too often. Only to fail every time â if Rubyâs laughter was any indication, and Will had groaned several times, but he also didnât appear to be engaged yet and Emma had apologized to Graham that afternoon.Â
Through text, though. So it only kind of counted. She wasnât even sure parts of the messages were English. Her head felt like it was going to snap open, which made the champagne she was practically shotgunning at that point a very bad decision, but sheâd been on a roll on that front, so she had no intention of altering course and it was nearly midnight.
âThis is depressing,â Ruby announced. âHeâs staring again.â
Rolling her eyes was an impossibility if Emma didnât want to make a spectacle of herself in front of her brother and some of the teachers from Mary Margaretâs school, and Rubyâs date was nice. Had a lot of pictures of her dog on her phone, but nice all the same.
More blinking. Honestly, she was a mess. The teachers kept hogging space on the couch. Killian smiled when he looked at Emma, that time. âElaborate on that.â
âAre you the dumbest person alive?â
âNo, this is just our general opinion of you. Both of you, really. Iâare you not almost painfully aware of how in love Killian is with you? Em, he is staring at you. Like, right now. Blatantly. Obviously. Some other adverb.â
âWe live together.â
Wide eyes and an impressively straight row of teeth were all the warning Emma got before there was a hand on her shoulder and he smelled just as good as she was hopeful she hadnât mentioned last night, but that felt like wishful thinking and Emma did not, in fact, eject any bodily fluids when Killian turned her. Victories, she was flush with them.Â
âIâm so bad at cooking.â
âHey,â she breathed, and Ruby groaned so loudly it likely did damage to the ozone layer.Â
Frozen to the spot, she tried very hard to regulate her breathing and fix her pulse, and neither thing worked. And then. Something clicked â almost audibly in her brain, and her soul and her heartâs potential for explosion was suddenly something she had to worry about.Â
Killianâs lips twitched. âYou got a second?â
âPlease donât look at me like that,â Killian murmured. She barely heard him. Not when there were fingers tracing up her side and lingering on the small of her back, and Emmaâs head moved her head as slowly as she could.Â
If she moved any faster, sheâd either fall over or wake up from this very lucid dream and neither of those things were all that positive.Â
âCooking, itâsâI love you a lot, but you are absolutely atrocious at it.â
âYouâve got to stop cooking, love.â
The world stopped. Paused, at least. Gave Emmaâs muddled mind a second to catch up, and sheâd need several more seconds, but she also wasnât quite that greedy and Killianâs smile widened. As soon as her fingers curled into his shirt.Â
He didnât move his hands.Â
âIââ she stammered. âI am...but we donât match!â
âWhat is happening right now?â Emma breathed, only cautiously optimistic she wanted the answer.Â
A chorus of angry jeers rained down on them â Will using Robin to keep himself upright while he flipped Killian off with both hands. âPining piner who pines like a goddamn idiot.â
âWell, Iâm fairly in love with you. To an almost ridiculous degree.â
âI do appreciate the cooking effort though,â he added. âBut itâs a very old profile, made almost entirely by Scarlet inââ
âI honestly forgot it existed,â Killian continued, âIâve never used it, really. Just knew that Scarlet had made the thing, and then I ignored the messages andââ
As it was, her fingers were already tight enough that Emma very easily pulled herself up and the hand at her waist helped keep her balanced and they were very good at this. Kissing, specifically. Heads tilted automatically to an angle that made it all too easy for Emma to open her mouth, and Killianâs tongue was even more distracting when it was brushing hers, and someone was groaning, but that might have been her, or possibly him and his hair was soft. Between her fingers.Â
âNot as many as you did.â
Breathing was suddenly a secondary concern, and Emmaâs lungs had already proved they were basically made of steel, or at least impervious to the flames currently exploding between her ribs and none of that was biologically accurate.Â
She never did find out where her pancreas was.Â
And she was so busy dealing with the way the solar system appeared to be reordering itself around the pair of them, that Emma didnât notice the countdown or the metallic crown tossed at her feet. Only that there were eventually cheers and Ryan Seacrestâs face plastered across the TV on the other side of the room, and one of Killianâs hands had worked underneath her shirt.Â
The sparkly one that had made his eyes noticeably widen several hours earlier.Â
âHow did you figure it out?â

Dr. Lanik: Whatâs the dress code
Other Bekker: casual if you wear a suit ill kill you
Ethan Choi: When?Â
Bekker: We were thinking it would start at around six or seven? It would mean a lot to us if Crockett could make it.
FreeWilly: Will there be alcohol?
Other Bekker: some of us are sober. No
no-ah: Iâm in
Maggie<3: Wait whoâs sober other than Crockett?
Dr. Lanik: Me
Other Bekker: me
connor: @OtherBekker there was an open bar at your wedding
Bekker: Circumstances change
Ethan Choi: This is such a fun conversation. Letâs not have it.
April: So back to the party⌠details!
Other Bekker: ill send the address in a bit but its gonna be potluck style. Everybody brings food. itll be pretty casual so dont be that asshole (@Dr.Lanik). starting at six ish and ending at maybe 10 or 11 depending on how tired we all are
Ethan Choi: Crockettâs program usually ends at like 5:30 so we might be a little late?
Other Bekker: ok sounds good. how is he btw
Ethan Choi: Pretty well. Heâs outpatient for another few weeks and then his doctors are going to discuss long term options. Hopefully heâll be back at work soon, too
April: Tell him weâre proud of him?
Ethan Choi: As soon as I pick him up tonight.
-
Sarah: are we telling them tonight?
Wifey: I was thinking so, yes. I mean, we have our house, and the paperwork went through.
Sarah: im so excited
Wifey: Me too, honey
-
Nat: Not to alarm anybody but whoeverâs in charge of Connor right now, come to treatment 4
FreeWilly: love the implication that we take turns babysitting him
Dr. Lanik: We kind of do. I think itâs Maggieâs turn.
Maggie<3: Iâm not at work. Whoâs next in line?
April: @QueenElsa
Queen Elsa: Fine
connor: im a big boy i can take care of myself
Nat: You literally have a concussion
Ethan Choi: Why?
Nat: He fainted after a surgery. His sugar is low on the finger prick and he said he hasnât had any water since his shift started
Dr. Lanik: @connor Weâve talked about this
connor: ok boomer
Dr. Lanik: @connor Stop calling me a boomer! Weâre the same age!
connor: ok
connor: boomer
Bekker: Can you grow up @connor
connor: no
Queen Elsa: Update for everyone, Connor is getting a CT. Heâs eating a Snickers bar right now and weâre pushing fluids
FreeWilly: youre not you when youre hungry
Dr. Lanik: @Bekker @OtherBekker What day will your housewarming party be? My daughterâs birthday is Friday.
Maggie<3: IM SORRY YOUR WHAT
Other Bekker: ?????
Bekker: We were thinking Saturday.
April: @FreeWilly Did you know about this???????
FreeWilly: uh yeah?
no-ah: Why did none of us know you had a daughter?
Dr. Lanik: I just donât see how itâs any of your business.
Nat: How old is she? Whoâs her mother? What school does she go to? How did we go this long without knowing?
[Dr. Lanik has sent an image to the chat]
Dr. Lanik: This is Emma, sheâs almost eleven, and this is the most information any of you will ever be getting about her.
Ethan Choi: Well this has been a wild ride
Other Bekker: now taking bets on how crockett will react. $10 says he thinks its a joke
no-ah: Coward. He knows everything. $20 says he already knew.
Other Bekker: youre on
Queen Elsa: ...Anyways, Connorâs CT came back alright. Itâs a minor concussion; heâll be fine soon.Â
Maggie<3: Thatâs good
Dr. Lanik: @FreeWilly and I will look after him.
Ethan Choi: Just picked up Crockett, he says hi. He also has letters for each of you as part of his process
Nat: Thatâs sweet
Ethan Choi: I have been assured none of them contain nudes
Other Bekker: thank g-d
Ethan Choi: Iâll be giving them to you all at work.
Ethan Choi: Crockett will be cooking something I wonât even try to pronounce for the housewarming party
Other Bekker: his cooking is all so good...
no-ah: It slaps
Queen Elsa: Is it that pasta thing??? With the crawfish????
Ethan Choi: Honestly, I donât know.
Nat: Owen and I are bringing cookies.
Bekker: Important question, @Dr.Lanik⌠will Emma be coming?
Dr. Lanik: No. I donât want her near any of you.
connor: hes got a point
Maggie<3: Have you never, in your life, had to bring her to a doctor?
Dr. Lanik: We use East Mercy so that you all keep your noses out of my life.
FreeWilly: ouch
April: I mean, if I had a daughter, I wouldnât want any of you near her either.
Nat: Harsh, I trust you with my son
April: Youâre different.
Bekker: Do I hear wedding bells?
Nat: @April What if we kissed in the doctorâs lounge⌠and weâre both girls?
Nat: Haha just kidding
Nat: Unless
April: Did you just hit on me with a meme
Nat: Did it work?
Other Bekker: another win for the gaydies
Other Bekker: THEY BOTH JUST WENT INTO THE DOCTORS LOUNGE JHGFKHFRH
Ethan Choi: Crockett laughedÂ
connor: do you read these messages to him?
Ethan Choi: Sometimes. He likes to be in the loop.
FreeWilly: hot take but. we could just add him back to the chat?
Ethan Choi: Heâs not ready for that yet, but he does like to be updated on your lives and one-on-one texting is stressful for him
Other Bekker: we spend more time talking about crockett now than we did when he was in the chat
no-ah: Sweet I have my Crockett letter
Ethan Choi: I'll put them in your lockers. My shift is starting so I'm turning my phone to silent.Â
Other Bekker: Crockett Time
Bekker: Did he write me one?
Other Bekker: @Bekker both mine and yours are in my locker i think. one is for "blonde bekker" and one is for "brunette bekker"
no-ah: That's what he has your contacts saved asÂ
Queen Elsa: Mine is just a smiley face sticker in an envelope?
Other Bekker: jsyk we should probably keep these private! this is important to him
Maggie<3: I'm so excited to see him again on Saturday, I've missed him.
FreeWilly: He's been busy. I think his program is like eight to five every day but Sunday
Nat: What's that even like?
Other Bekker: they have an in house aa group that meets a few times a day and theres a ton of other support like therapy to get to the root of the problem. i mean before he got sober the first time he was self medicatingÂ
Other Bekker: he does a lot of art therapy i think. when he was inpatient he kept mailing paintings to my wife and iÂ
-
Curry (Not Dr.): Hey, it's Elsa Curry from Med. Sarah gave me your number. I was just wondering why you gave me a sticker?
Crockett: dont u put them on the inside of your binder? the one u put ur case notes in at the end of ur shiftÂ
Curry (Not Dr.): How did you know that?
Crockett: u pull ur binder out when ur stressed to reference old cases. i thot u might like another sticker so u know ur not in this alone
Crockett: :)
-
[crickett has renamed the chat "dick bros"]
crickett: @connor do u wanna fuck again this weekend lmao
connor: ???
connor: i thought that was a one time thing
Ethan Choi: It doesn't have to be.Â
-
Maggie<3: @Bekker @OtherBekker Sorry I'm running a little behind! I couldn't find my keys
Bekker: No harm, no foul!
[Bekker has sent an image to the chat]
Bekker: Definitely hurry, we're having so much fun!
-
Crockett: baby
HUBBY: I'm sitting right beside you.
Crockett: ik but im feeling kinda overwhelmedÂ
HUBBY: Do you want to go home?
Crockett: i think i just need air will you cover for me if someone comes looking
-
Other Bekker: THANK YOU @Maggie<3 FOR ACTUALLY HELPING CLEAN UPÂ
FreeWilly: sorry!
connor: sorry ahhhhhh i didnt think about itÂ
Nat: Congrats again, you two, this is huge!
April: ^^
no-ah: Will we get to meet her, or will she be a secret like Laniks daughter?
Bekker: You'll all definitely get to meet her, but let's not do so much at once? Adjusting to a new home is hard, and from what the adoption agency tells us, she's had a rough go of it.
no-ah: Of course!Â
Queen Elsa: No little girl could have a better home! Congratulations on your daughter and I wish you really good luck. If you ever need help, we're all here!
Dr. Lanik: She's about eight, right?
Bekker: Yes
Dr. Lanik: If she needs help adjusting, let me know, and maybe Emma and I can help. She was about that age when I adopted her.
connor: the Lanik lore we are getting today omg
Dr. Lanik: You'll both be great parents, and @OtherBekker don't hesitate to let me know if you need extra time off. This is a big deal and you shouldn't have to stress about work when you should be worrying about your family. @Bekker I'll also ask Dr. Latham to be lenient with you as well.
Other Bekker: thank you from both of us <3
connor: who knew lanik had a heart.Â

Slowburn fic while taking a walk

Many more replies below
@follyface replied to your postâWhy are so many assholes so popular on YT omggg, like, I know my...â
my theory is that meanspirited people like to follow other mean people because it makes them feel like their attitude is okay. And also there are a lot of mean people out there
I think so too. A lot of popular fandom bullies had followings of other fandom bullies who then became popular, it was like a weird... bullying... circlejerk
@abandonthefort replied to your postâIâm just having a hard time understanding how people can do things and...â
Bigots do think about the consequences. The just assume there won't be any or if there are consequences it'll just be a slap on the wrist (and given the precedents that especially we have...that's not as wrong of an assumption as it should be).
Even more than bigots, I also remember that 15 year old kid who did that âprankâ where you call SWAT on someone during a stream and now heâs in prison for 25 years or something. Like, wtf, if it doesnât get shortened heâll be FORTY YEARS OLD and getting out after something stupid he did as a dick kid. (I donât disagree with the sentence but Iâm like holy shit over how like... thatâs having to grow up in prison because of a mistake you made as a kid. how nuts is that.)
Itâs crazy to think about what that must be like. I get stressed out by it sometimes, thinking about other peopleâs mistakes and what they must have to go through internally, especially when itâs something more serious that involves death or something, like yeesh. There are those who will never feel remorse but there are the ones who do and thatâs a lot of self-forgiveness to stick it out and do your time. I can barely forgive myself for things but I havenât done anything like that, I feel like the worst dirt on earth if I accidentally step on a snail.Â
@aviantaco replied to your postâMaybe we can help! What kind of side blog are you interested in doing?â
I love all those titles. Please make sure to let us know if/when that blog is up and running so I can follow nwn
Will do. Gonna have to try to make time to work on it, make it nice and get things queued.Â
glompme replied to your postâMaybe we can help! What kind of side blog are you interested in doing?â
newsspoonieblog reads like the best choice to me.
I like it, but I think the double ss bugs me and even with dashes Iâm not feeling it anymore, hmm.
glompme replied to your postâMaybe we can help! What kind of side blog are you interested in doing?â
spoonieguidancebynew states what it is and would be a logical choice if you want to make sure people know what's up but it doesn't stand out terribly well newsspoondrawer sounds like an artist account

you could remove the doors to the room the cake is in and leave only the candle placer in there since you'd be doing a direct command for said sim. :3
I tried to pause right when they were done making the cake and thereâs not even an option to put candles. I think I just have a weird bug.
@just-mags replied to your postâDiscount organic cheese crunchies.â
