I've been commissioned to write 20,000 characters on RAVE for a widely distributed mainstream magazine, basically an introduction for newcomers. Honestly, I don’t even know where to start. The truth is, I’d love to just rant about all the issues that everyone keeps diagnosing but nothing ever changes:
The shift of culture into a strictly business model
The absence of artistic managers in clubs
Competition over collaboration (or collaboration limited to tight-knit interest groups)
Increasing commercialization
The looming shadow of yet another economic crash, closing the cycle
Clubs dumping the responsibility for attendance solely on the collectives throwing the parties (a lazy and crude post-COVID tactic)
A total lack of respect for music in favor of catering to a mediocre audience (by mediocre, I mean those without any musical awareness), so long as the drinks keep flowing
Escalating hedonism and TikTok-ification
The loss of the old-school approach (aspiring DJs used to put in years of work to learn the craft; now it’s all about “average but loyal”)
An obsession with pointless popularity contests and awards
Sectarianism over quality and freshness
Honestly, I had to take a step back because all these factors have really shaken my belief in the value of engaging with the broader rave scene. I’m using this break to reconnect with the original ideals, refresh my knowledge, and seek alternatives.
I think I’ll focus on encouraging readers to maintain high standards, choose their events mindfully, avoid chasing trends, and be guided by their authentic reactions to music—the kind that, for me, used to create incredible experiences at parties, where smoke and strobe lights offered an escape from the toxic world outside.
It’s no surprise that my friends are losing interest in going out when the toxicity they’re trying to escape is staring them down in four walls marked with the empty and overused slogan of PLUR.

I'm tired. I wouldn't necessarily say I was *burning* out over this spring semester because it didn't feel like there was much wood left to burn. I just...need a break. Change gears. Step away from social media...again because something I've noticed over the year I've had this blog is that I've been increasingly affected by FOMO and feeling behind whenever I'm engaging in social media. Even if it seems as if I'm charting a clear path for myself when I do challenges and post semi-regularly, I feel as if my path is less clear. I only regain that clarity when I take extended time away from social media, and I would like to re-learn how to maintain that sense of clarity for longer without soon feeling the urge to either numb myself by scrolling, or put myself on display because apparently my mere existence is not enough for me to feel real in a more cemented way if that makes sense*... This isn't exactly goodbye. I'm probably gonna return to tumblr at some point because I'll miss my moots and all, but I think these extended breaks should become a more regular thing for me.
*perhaps me currently being in that "i wanna make my mark on the world" stage (which sometimes becomes the more toxic "prove my existence was worth it" stage) is bleeding into everything i do...honestly, idk how to go about it, how to deal with it, whether i should scrap it. would not be surprised if many years down the road, i realize that i've been going about this whole thing wrong... but some things we only learn through experience. 🤷🏻♀️

In hindsight it’s kind of funny how my mom is opposed to my transsexuality but simultaneously refused to accept the idea that I might have been experiencing mental health struggles when I still lived with her. She was totally opposed to me taking anti depressants & didn’t believe in my adhd diagnosis she never told me about until I had a meltdown after a PSAT since I couldn’t finish it.
