Am I allowed to make a moodboard request? I’ve recently become a fan of a series called “Dead Boy Detectives”, and somehow Nace in his nerd look reminds me of one of the main characters, named Edwin. Over the course of the show, Edwin is shipped with three other guys, one is the other main character Charles, another is the flamboyant Cat King (wears leather and fur and a skirt!), and there’s also the crow boy Monty…all of which could suit Jan…so I would like to request a Dead Boy Detectives themed Jance moodboard with Nace as Edwin and Jan as either Charles, the Cat King or Monty. Thank you! 😆

It's always mentioned how jiara are jacey coded-I agree! But also they are so stydia coded. There are so many stydia scenes that I can see acted out with Jiara! And the potential in the time period after they got together we didn't get to see due to Dylan's absence--!

I can definitely see some elements of Stydia in Jiara! I always go back to the cheek kiss scene from 6x01. I could for sure see that type of energy in a Jiara scene, especially if JJ was in a space where he’s more emotionally comfortable.

Here’s to hoping Jiara feeds us in the way stydia didn’t get to. I also really want some of JJ relaxing more and just worshipping his beautiful girlfriend, like we got hints of in S1 (and absolutely like stiles would do).

I just realized that people were actually into Nancy and Tamura. They had a ship name?? Like, I’m up to date with the show but wasn’t really into fandom when I was watching all of the other seasons. I mean looking back if I wasn’t obsessed with Ace and Nace since the beginning I could kinda see it as a crack ship id like but they moved it to fast? Like they were written in such I way I wasn’t able to be invested and just knew it wouldn’t last and had a feeling something better would come along (like slow burn Nace finally coming to fruition) . Also don’t even get me started on namace (Nancy x Ace x Tamura) Like WOAH. No offence to any people who shipped these btw it’s just none of these ships were ever even on my radar so suddenly finding the namura tag sent me down a shocking rabbit hole for me, okay??

Truly one of the most deranged horror experiences I’ve ever had

This is EAT THEM ALIVE.

It’s a pulp horror novel from the late 1970s and reading it feels like slowly losing your mind

So, the main character is called Dyke (Yes, really)

He’s a criminal whose old team betrayed him and cut his cock and balls off

There’s one guy on the criminal crew who’s a weirdly stereotypical Black man who calls everyone around him “Whitey” about four to five times per paragraph

And the plot of the novel is Dyke discovering a race of giant, man-eating mantises that he learns to control, and plans to use them to take revenge on his old crew

After this incredibly thin plot is established, the book is just mantises eating people.

Just endless, endless descriptions of mantises eating people.

Mantises eating dudes.

Mantises eating people boob and/or vagina first.

Mantises eating babies.

Mantises eating whole families.

Just completely deranged, repetitive descriptions of mantises eating people.

Again and again and again and again. For eleven chapters. It sometimes gets into oddly fetishistic descriptions of the mantises having big, bulging bellies and eating like a stupid number of people.

It’s become incredibly rare at this point and one of the only ways you can experience it is a fan-made audiobook on YouTube

But here’s the twist. Nobody really knew who wrote this, and one of the leading speculations is that the enigmatic Pierce Nace is actually detective novel author Evelyn Pierce Nace

It’s likely that she went by her middle name because the 70s horror fiction market wouldn’t have been the most hospitable place for a female writer

And if the timeline lines up, Evelyn Pierce Nace would have been in his twilight years when she wrote this

Personally, I think there’s something beautiful about an old lady one day deciding she wanted to write an entire novel about giant mantises graphically eating people, and then she did it, and decades later, here we are.

From the end of s3 and throughout s4, Nancy and Ace have used the word "love" a lot:

"I lied to the man that I love to save his life."

"You're not the only one who lost the love of their life here."

"Your decision to call the Sin Eater on my behalf was an act of love."

These are just a few examples, yet the point is Nancy and Ace know they love each other and are making it clear to each other (or those around them) that love is the case.

With this, it would have made sense for them to actually say "I love you" in the finale, right? After all, it's the last chance to have it said on screen.

Yet, what we did get is (in my opinion) so much stronger:

"But will you solve this part of the mystery with me?"

"Yes. Always. Forever."

With this, I have to ask what does "I love you" even mean? We all know, so I don't have to explain it. And I think that's what makes nace's version of "I love you" all the better. It's specific to them only, when "love" is kind of a generic word when it doesn't have context.

When you view it that way, you can easily track Nancy and Ace's love throughout the entire series. Love isn't only "I love you."

"Just because I'm mad at you doesn't mean I want to lose you."

"I know you." "I know you too."

"I couldn't lose you."

"I can help you proofread."

"You never were."

This is only a handful of quotes for examples. But with each one, they are affirming their devotion to each other. That they understand one another. Believe in the other. Or need them in their life.

"But will you solve this part of the mystery with me?" becomes a request from Ace to commit to how they feel and let something come of it. Nancy's "Yes. Always. Forever," is to say she's all in and will always be.

It's easy to see then, why the director of the finale sees this scene as a marriage proposal. Marriage is in many ways, a promise.

And by affirming Nancy and Ace's love for each other, we get a representation of who they are. Or, what makes them unique.

"Because no matter what, the mystery of who you are will never end. And I know that the next clues will have to take you on the road. So do mine."

Literally, it's an acknowledgment that Nancy is a detective and will be traveling. More figuratively, it's Ace accepting Nancy for who she is when throughout the show, her identity is something she's struggled with. He's saying that even as she figures herself out, he chooses her and every version of her. After all, identity is not constant and will always change as time goes on. Ace is even acknowledging that for himself in that his "clues" will take him on the road too. There is no right time. There is now.

For two people who have spent the show searching for who they are, whether in regard to family, purpose, or other - this scene affirms their acceptance of each other in every form. "I love every version of you. At your best, or at your worst - I can choose forgiveness because I know your intention."

If Ace had walked into Icarus Hall in that final scene and said "I love you," it would have been true. Yet it doesn't tell Nancy anything new and it doesn't speak to her as directly as what he did say instead. Effectively, what Ace did say is "I know you" all over again, including the times she doesn't know herself. Nancy affirms the same toward him, as they go on to solve the mystery of life together.

Now, do I still wish we got an actual "I love you" from Nancy and Ace? For sure I wanted to hear them say it. Yet I can also see why it wasn't said, when it's already what they've been saying all along.

Plus, if I ever do want to hear them say it, they already did all the way back in season 1.

"I think I love you."

"I think I love you too."

Those were not their own words. But they were words that were starting to hold true. They were words that foretold the ending at the start, before their story had ever been told.

You know when you meet someone and they're great but you didn't quite catch their name and now it's too late to ask and you keep hanging out but you still have zero idea what they're called and now it's REALLY too late to admit you never got their name and you can't find them online because of it and you're having to either avoid their name altogether or go full on detective to figure it out?

Yeah, anyway, I'm glad Bojan has apparently stepped in to write down Nace's name for Jere so that he can follow him back on Instagram at long last.

Happy Nace Week Everyone! This is the only GIF I've made in my life, using a crappy GIF maker on my phone. The Prompt for "Day 1" is my favorite "Episode 4 Episode, Scene, or Moment". I struggled mightily between a couple options, but one stood out through and through. The Sigil Scene. It's truly one of my favorite Television Scenes ever smack dab in one of the best (and one of my favorite) T.V. episodes I've ever seen.

The nickname I gave this scene was "Eye Sex With a Side Of Art" because it's the most insane eye contact I've ever seen. The scene starts off with Ace asking Nancy when she knew she had feelings for him, and he assumes it was during Detective Con, and then she finally tells him about her going to his house, and being jealous of Amanda, Ace admits to being jealous of Gil (Dickhead) and Park (Ew), and admits he's had feelings for her since High School. It's so lovey dovey that it almost made my cold dead heart beat again.

If that's not enough, they start looking at each other with enough intensity that I too would shatter if I was glass surrounding them. The "That Long? That Long." followed immediately by the flirty "Take Your Shirt Off" was insane. She tried to play it off as just needing to paint the symbol, but Nancy was *eyeing* him like a jungle cat observing her prey.

And then the painting of the Sigil, my god man. The intensity in both their eyes (See GIF above) was insane. Kennedy and Alex are amazing solo and working with other people, but my god where they built to act together. They're just staring holes through each other the whole time. I felt like I shouldn't be watching, like they were in their own little private world and I was an unwelcome guest observing them. The Coup De Grâce was the immediate parallel of him flustering her right after she'd flustered him. The smirk on his face said it all, my man was a menace in that moment. He knew exactly what he was doing when he called it his "Nancy Scar". If Bess hadn't called for him, Ace would've dropped dead right there, because no way were those two holding back.
