Another little assassin's creed rant😗(sorry I haven't posted in a whileee)

So I've been replaying Assassin's creed black flag for what seems like the 100th time lol, and this time I'm all about the detail. Collecting everything, reading stuff that's probably doesn't matter, but IDC🗣 Playing as the faceless abstergo employee outside of the Animus I've made it my goal to hack all of the computers and scan all of the QR code sticky note thingys.

But while hacking the computers, I found information that I totally forgot about in the first play through or stuff that I never found. For example, I forgot that Desmond actually had files on his kidnapping and his missing persons poster, and his phone with photos and the audio recordings. Along with that video of his body being discovered.

Re-finding all of that data kind of made me sad. It was nice to hear his voice and hear him talk about being trained by his father those years ago. Then, when I found his photos on his phone, tears almost fell. This was a human who just wanted to live. He just wanted a normal life. But apart from that, the photos made me see him and the gang outside of assassin and Animus work. It was beautifully sad knowing I was looking at photos of a dead person and people who left that life behind.

Just look at how life like those pictures are, I believe that's truly the life Desmond wanted to live. No animus, no assassins, no saving the world. Desmond really got cheaped out in ac4, even as a corpse. I feel horrible playing as an abstergo employee, listening to audio and reading emails that dehumanize him, making him seem like nothing more than an experiment. They water down him and his ancestors, using them as entertainment. Fuck you abstergo. Justice for Desmond.

thinks about the fact that rebecca calls lucy “luce” and. and explodes. oh GOD they were FRIENDS. they were friends…….. they were friends and rebecca came to lucy with her doubts about continuing and told lucy when things they were doing were bothering her and they were friends and can you fucking imagine how crushing it was to find out that lucy was a double agent. how much worse it was, not realizing lucy would betray her, but realizing that despite always going to lucy with what upset her, lucy couldn’t ever share the same with rebecca. screams.

It is a miracle I managed to get anything done today, let alone a little bit of actual world-building for the thing I'm eventually wanting to make. Meet Desmond and Trace, a gay little Folf and a big gay Dragon respectively. They're the joint owners of a local coffee shop, Frappe Dragon, which they live directly above. Trace is usually the one running the shop while Desmond mostly does remote work unrelated to the shop, though the Folf does still help out downstairs on occasion and handles the inventory. Trace is a bit shy, but also a massive nerd. If you end up on a topic he's interested in, you better hope you've got an hour or two to spare. Fun Fact: These two are old OCs I've had since 2018, maybe earlier!

Eleven years since that day. By all official reports no one expected him to still be alive. Yet here he is, living in New York, right under everyone's noses, and actually still actively an assassin. Though not in any modern cells. Can't be alerting William Miles now. He's called a shadow, a ghost, a phantom. Yet no one from the modern brotherhood can keep up with him. Those who have seen him mention the brown hair, brown eyes, face scar and tattoo that are too familiar to anyone who knows him. But worrying parts of the report mentioned his blackened arm, and the markings of the ISU in that same side of his body. Those who have followed him, find he's not alone with a found family of his own.

Rebecca frowned as she went through the newest files she had acquired as part of what was being called “Lazarus.” Rather than trying to revive someone themselves, Rebecca and her partner in crime (and everything else) Shaun were clinging to hope that their friend Desmond had returned from the dead.

It was an insane hope, and one they didn’t believe in for years, but the photos were real. The security camera footage was real. And it almost seemed….intentional. Like Desmond was leaving them bread crumbs to come and find him, like a fairy tale come to life.

Rebecca and Shaun were in New York, finally, but it wouldn’t be easy. They had to hide from their fellow Assassins who wouldn’t approve, hide from the Templars who wanted them dead, all the while looking to see if Desmond really, really was alive.

The Commander: Part One

**Spoilers For All of Arcane**

Thankfully, despite being perhaps the least understood and appreciated character arc in modern media, the amount of incredible material being sent into the ether defending/explaining Caitlyn Kiramman's arc for season two has become truly inspiring. In fact, it was two statements I saw being echoed across the fandom that drove me to the point I was willing to emerge from lurkerdom, and start engaging with all of you wonderful people.

Now any of you who have kept up with my writing know that the first one is just about aneurysm inducing to me. And as such, I have written quite a bit about it. But the second one is no less idiotic, and while I have written multiple shorter pieces addressing various aspects of her character. It is on this subject I return to you tonight, hoping to put together a more complete picture of my thoughts on her story, and continue to support the recognition of the humanity, and heroism of Caitlyn Kiramman.

Before we begin, there will perhaps be someone who reads this, who has filed the story of Caitlyn Kiramman away under the heading of "ACAB", or "Facist" in their own mind, and chosen to turn away from what lies below the surface this tale. If that is you, welcome. I would encourage you to read ahead with an open mind and heart, and to see the humanity that lies in all of us reflected in this story both good and bad. For as Desmond Tutu once said "My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together"

The Lead Up:

At twenty-three years old, Caitlyn Kiramman's life has been altered in ways too vast to reckon with in only a matter of days. I have extensively detailed a series of events in another document specifically with the goal of showing who she is as the story develops. I will not do so again here, but below will list both the destabilizing events, and a basic rundown of who we have come to know, following this characters story.

Who She is-

Bright and curious/ we meet her as a happy and helpful young girl walking with Jayce in episode 1

Unwilling to turn on those she cares for/sitting out in the rain to speak to Jayce when her parents turned on him

Wants to protect her people/when Grayson asks what Kiramman is shooting for, we see her look out over the city

Dedicated Enforcer (believes in the system)/ When caught investigating the airship without permission, we learn she has done this before. And later that she has an ongoing investigation into the corruption of the undercity.

Open minded toward undercity/ Many examples. Kindness to large man who Vi keeps ruining when she finds him shot, she hugs Huck without reservation for saving Vi, verbally equates undercity and topsiders while caring for Vi, stands by testimony that Jinx alone was the reason for the attack even after her mother's death.

Brave and loyal/Engages Sevika immediately to save Vi's life, trades her rifle to save Vi, tries to trade her freedom for Vi's before she learns the Firelights are allies.

Destabilizing/Traumatizing events-

Survives Jinx's theft of gemstone in which six enforcers were killed.

Helps Vi escape Silco and his goons, they literally bring a building down.

First meeting with Jinx in person, attack of the firelights.

Taken by firelights, doesn't know if they are going to hurt them or not at first.

Almost killed by the sheriff after watching him shoot Ekko.

Survives Jinx's attack.

Abducted by Jinx from her childhood home, naked, while in the shower.

Bound and gagged with smiling mask at Jinx's tea party. Listens as Jinx tries to get Vi to kill her.

Has opportunity to stop Jinx, shows mercy at Vi's pleading.

Violently knocked out.

Helplessly watches Jinx fire the rocket that will kill her mother and 2 other councilors.

Summary: So, at twenty-three years of age, Caitlyn has lost her mother, been almost killed by the leader of the system of law and order she has believed in her entire life, been terrorized, abducted and nearly murdered multiple times by the same woman who killed her mother, who she possibly could have stopped. All in a matter of days. To help keep things in perspective, let's look at a few points using USA real life application.

She has only been legally allowed to drink for two years.

Based on the average, she has not even been able to drive for ten years.

Based on the average, she would graduated high school five years ago at most.

Based on the average for American college students she would be close to finishing her bachelors degree if she was in college.

Now, moving forward we are going to discuss both the grief and trauma she is experiencing. Those who have read my material have seen my stance regarding her grief. It is not different here so by all means skip ahead. It is only thanks to an insightful user who wrote an excellent post regarding her trauma recently that I realized I had been neglecting that point, so I will try to do it justice here. But we cannot move into her "down-fall" without a proper look at these two factors.

Grief-

" Zaunites live with fear of death constantly, Caitlyn loses one family member and gets to lose her mind"

" Not gonna feel bad for the oppressor when the oppressed finally hit back. #sorrynotsorry"

" So losing your mom justified becoming a war criminal?"

Folks, I've said it many times at this point and will continue to say it. Grief is not a contest. The way in which we perceive the world has to come through the filter of our beliefs and experiences. Now it can change, as we grow, and learn, and come to understand more about the wider world around us. But it's just how it works. Of course, if you grow up with death all around you, you are not going to react as strongly to the single death of a loved one. Not to say of course that you don't grieve or feel that loss, but it will be less jarring.

But for a moment, imagine you have never felt that pain. Never known the darkness of someone who used to occupy a place in your world being gone and there being nothing you can do. Oh, and for an added bonus, add the guilt of feeling like you could have saved them...

It does not erase the pain of the people of Zaun to validate that of Caitlyn. It does not deny the history of oppression and suffering of the Undercity to recognize and validate that after days of incredibly traumatizing violence, this young woman now has to reckon with her mother's violent death that she will always wonder if she could have stopped.

Trauma-

"I want to tear that laugh from her throat forever"...

"I understand now, how easy it is to hate them. One vicious act.."

*As I have stated in various posts mostly pertaining to Jinx, I am in no way a mental health professional of any kind. So anything I share is my effort at understanding through research and observation*

To begin, we need to remember how Caitlyn grew up. Wealthy, safe, and privileged. People are determined to use her upbringing to rob her suffering of any validity, but... why? Does the fact that she was raised in wealth rob her of the ability to suffer? to bleed? No, at the end of the day it means she has known a life without danger, hunger, pain and loss. And in only a matter of days, has had each of those things violently crash into her life with no way to stop it.

As I am operating from a complete layman's perspective, I am going to try and keep this simple:

Near Death Experiences- In a matter of days Caitlyn has for the first time in her life, been through a series of events that could easily have killed her. Speaking as someone who used to do a job that occasionally placed me in violent situations, and never as severe as what Caitlyn has been through, I can tell you the effects of each and everyone are quite real. According to a report from the Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2009, "Among all victims of violent crime, the two most widely experienced emotional symptoms were feeling worried or anxious (72%) and feeling angry (70%) for a month or more". A month of heightened anger and anxiety from a single violent incident. She has been through quite a bit more than that.

2. Abduction- Caitlyn was taken from the bathroom of her childhood home. She was naked when Jinx showed up, and at some point made to put on her Enforcer uniform and bound and gagged. By this time, Jinx has almost killed her several times, and killed many of her peers. And now she is here in Caitlyn's home, in a place where Caitlyn is vulnerable and all alone. Violating her sense of safety and security to the highest degree. An article from Sage Journals by David Alexander and Susan Klein lists "intrusive thoughts..hypervigilance..anger.. and depression" all as possible long term effects in victims of hostage taking and abductions, among many others. We can see all of these manifesting in Caitlyn, but to draw attention to Intrusive thoughts:

SEASON 2:

Okay.... that was a lot! I know, and I appreciate you if you are still here (yes even you hashtagger). But now that we have established a proper baseline and understanding of what occured in season one we can really dig into season 2 and everything this young woman goes through.

Before the attack on the memorial, it seems as though there is a chance of Caitlyn keeping her ahead above that dark water she feels rising. Even with all that has happened, she does not blame the Undercity at this time. She maintains her testimony that Jinx alone is responsible. She protests that innocents will be caught in the cross-fire when Salo wishes for war. What she could not know, is that Ambessa Medarda was already making moves to get the war she has been hoping for, and has her eyes on Caitlyn to do it.

The Memorial Attack-

The Memorial attack is the push. it is the thing needed to tip Caitlyn over the edge she had only barely been clinging to. She and Vi share a moment afterward in which Vi recognizes that this had been done for the sake of the spectacle, but Caitlyn is angry... on top of everything else she has been through, even a day to mourn her mother's passing has been tainted with violence. Her fellow enforcers lay dead all around them, as well as the bodies of their attackers mere feet from the watch statues of the deceased councilors.

And although she was not, it is entire reasonable to assume Caitlyn and Vi would assume Jinx's involvement in some way given all that happened. Caitlyn admits she is afraid... afraid that if she goes after Jinx without Vi, one of them will die. And the dominoes begin to fall as our characters are driven to betray their principles in the name of "justice"... As Caitlyn strides into the Council meeting, announcing she has claimed the role as the leader of her house, and will be leading a strike team into Zaun with 3 objectives.

I was thinking of Desmond's mother again and how my version is no nonsense and awkward with affection. But now I can only think that if Desmond had lived, she would do, not quite a complete 180, but try a lot more while still being horribly awkward.

She full on goes Altair scholar mode and gets, like, 30 books for new parents and studies them all in one night. Maybe one or two pet owner ones cause she is desperate damn it. She wants so badly to try and make up for his childhood. Which is really great and all, but now she is trying to apply them to her 25-year-old son.

Desmond comes down for food and finds his dinner there, already cut up, which cool he hasn't mastered the art of cutting food with only one hand yet, so that definitely makes things easier. Then she starts watching him like a hawk (or eagle, hehe), making sure he eats enough and sleeps enough.

Hell, maybe for the first few nights, she waits for Desmond to fall asleep and camps herself in a chair by his door, sleeping there to act as his silent guard.

She asks Bill about the pros and cons of putting a baby monitor in Desmond's room, and Bill just gives her a tired look and is like, "Please don't."

One of the books talked about the importance of giving attention and affirmation to your child, so she will comment on his skills, but occasionally randomly be like, "Good job, son. You... got very tall? Handsome? Combatant?" (She is trying, Desmond. Leave her alone.)

Kids (and pets) need regular exercise, right? Well, Desmond, get ready to be woken up at 4 in the morning by your mother at the foot of your bed, asking if you would like to go on a run with her.

She puts Desmond's first proper mission report on the fridge cause that's a thing she knows parents do when they are proud of their kid.

She starts giving him small things when he does something good. Candy, desserts, maybe a new hoodie. It escalates to her one day being like, "Should I get him a puppy, or a cat? Some kind of service animal perhaps."

And God forbid someone wants to meet with her son. Bill had told the whole Brotherhood what Desmond had done, and when the news finally gets out that he is alive, many want to see/meet him, but they have to go through Mama Miles first. She does background checks on their background checks, looks over all their previous missions and success rate, and makes them file a god damn intentions form. If they pass all that, then they have to get through several hours of interrogation by her personally. It's only then she will ask Desmond "Hey do you want to meet these people?" and if he says no, she throws them out without a second thought.

At first, it all makes Desmond very confused. He thinks it's maybe out of pity, but eventually, he realizes this is just her trying to make up for never being physically there. It leaves him smiling and shaking his head because even his infallible (in his eyes) mother can be such a...a dork. He ends up extending his own olive branch by asking her to help him train so he can get use to the whole one arm thing.

I need more fics of post violent bleeding effect episodes. I wanna see the after effects of Desmond having to be injected with a high power sedative. I wanna see everyone sitting in a weary silence after Desmond passed out before slowly returning to their desks while Lucy files the incident report. I want to see Desmond waking up, still drugged out of his mind, and while the things he says are funny, nobody really laughs at them since they know he's only saying them because of the sedative.

Desmond's development throughout his arc doesn't get enough attention in the community, but hearing him in the Valhalla audio files is fascinating. At his core, he's still Desmond, but you can sense Altair's wisdom, Ezio's confidence, and Connor's unwavering conviction coming through in his dialogue and, even by AC3, in his actions.

After Toronto police arrested a striking York University worker earlier this month, labour experts are concerned that police are criminalizing workers exercising their charter right to strike.

York University contract faculty, teaching assistants, graduate assistants, part-time librarians and archivists have been on strike since February 26 fighting for improved wages, job security and better working conditions. 

The York workers’ arrest comes one month after Ottawa police were criticized for arresting a high profile labour leader during a rally in support of striking workers.

The Toronto Police Service arrested a picket captain at a CUPE 3903 picket line at York University on March 4 and charged the worker with mischief. TPS officers also assaulted several workers, as first reported by Desmond Cole for Yes, Everything.

“This was a really blatant attack on labour rights,” Tanya Dushatska, a PhD student and rank and file member of CUPE 3903, told PressProgress. “This is setting a really dangerous precedent for other unions and organizations in Canada.” [...]

Desmond in jjk?

Here’s a “AC characters in a JJK AU” idea from before.

So for this one, we’ll go for a simple case of Desmond gets kicked into JJK world after saving his world.

He wakes up lying on bags of trash in Japan and tries to find his way back to America.

… without any kind of identification.

Things are strange for sure.

He has not seen any Abstergo product, not even a damn painkiller.

So he goes to what he believed to be the Brotherhood’s main headquarters in Japan (according to Rebecca who made him remember as many as possible in as many countries as they had on file) which turned out to be Jujutsu High in Tokyo.

And, for some reason, the moment he stepped into the supposed barriers of Jujutsu High…

He loses consciousness.

And the sorcerers all around feel a Special Grade Cursed Spirit enter the barrier for a fraction of a second.

When they reached the supposed origin, all they find is an unconscious Desmond.

Now, this is where this setup could go in 2 ways.

1. We set this up around Gojo and Geto’s past, maybe a month or so before they go ‘get’ Riko.

2. We set this up a week or so after Yuuji transferred to Jujutsu High.

Setup 1 will make Desmond have a tricky place in regards to the sorcerers. Gojo would definitely be interested in him but he wouldn’t have the same ‘pull’ as he would have had as a teacher to keep the other high ranking sorcerers from trying to kill Desmond because they’re afraid of an unknown like him.

Setup 2 would make it easier for Gojo to pull some string and take Desmond under his wing either as a student (who is still a 25 year old man so Nobara is definitely gonna tease him about that or as something similar to a teacher’s aide).

Setup 2 would be more in line of Desmond trying to figure out why people say he’s possessed (was it his Bleeds? Was it the fact that he was from another world? Hell, he won’t be surprised if he himself is the actual Cursed Spirit at this point) while growing close to his fellow ‘classmates’.

Setup 1 can have a similar progression with Desmond becoming Gojo’s classmate. Maybe in this one, Yaga was able to pull some string to put Desmond in a sorta half-student half-prisoner situation.

Setup 1 can also have Desmond on the run from the sorcerers which ends with him partnering with Toji (which may or may not lead to something more)

Whichever setup you choose, Desmond is not able to see cursed spirit UNLESS he activates Eagle Vision. He also don’t necessarily have cursed energy and he needs to adapt his skills as an Assassin to defeat curses using cursed tools.

AND he will absolutely watch every movie he can get his hands on because some of the movies are very similar to what he saw in his world but also definitely different.
