Following up on the mental note that I should share more good recommendations for podcasts about indie ttrpg design:

Design Doc is always worth listening to, but this particular conversation about book cover design walks through some great observations about the design process, the many purposes of a book cover, and plenty of context around it.

Imagine a really good conversation on visual/information/communication design re: book covers & indie ttrpgs.

Turtlebun have recently been documenting the process of adapting their game Questlandia on the podcast, so if you like the cover design episode and want to hear more this is a great jumping on point.

Sadly, since I set out to finish my design doc by the end of the month, I haven’t opened the document at all. I’m just tired of staring at a computer monitor all day, ya know?

Maybe I need to go outside more.

Hey! My name is Lavender. I make games.

To say I "like making games" doesn't accurately describe my process. Rather, I tend to get an idea for a game (a board game, a card game, a video game...) that I would love to play, so I spend too much time brainstorming, theorycrafting, producing, and playtesting them. Then they end up never getting another glance from me.

I want to explain my thought process here, game by game. I'll unfortunately end up being quite vague about the actual mechanics/gimmicks/playstyle of the game, for one reason: I'm ultra paranoid about someone I don't know taking my ideas for their own. Especially when I eventually won't be around to defend it. When I'm no longer making games, I'll release my full detailed design docs somewhere else and forsake all this paranoia.

Until then, I'll keep writing down the ideas for games I need to play that don't exist yet. Maybe one day I'll play them with somebody.
