Lambrini Girls and Desert Sharks at Baby’s All Right

Before their debut album, Who Let The Dogs Out, is released on January 10, 2025, Brighton, UK punk band Lambrini Girls headlined two sold out shows in Brooklyn on Tuesday, December 3rd and Wednesday, December 4th. The first performance took place at Union Pool with support from Foyer Red, and the second night moved to Baby’s All Right for a late night set with an opening set by Desert Sharks.

On Wednesday, Desert Sharks took the stage to a filled room at 10:10PM. The NYC band kicked off their set with “Ego Death” from their 2023 album The Tower and continued with tracks from their catalog. The long running act appeared to be having an absolute blast, and bassist/singer Stephanie Gunther seemed to be as excited to see Lambrini Girls as the rest of the audience (she mentioned being at their show at The Sultan Room this past July).

The duo known as Lambrini Girls came on stage at 11PM to an excited audience. Before their set, pink party hats with the word “CUNTY” were handed out to people (the final track of WLTDO is called “Cuntology 101” and was the final song of the night, naturally). Singer/guitarist Phoebe Lunny and bassist Lilly Macieira-Boşgelmez were joined by drummer Syd Nichols for both NYC dates. The set began with “Big Dick Energy,” one of the singles from their forthcoming debut album and was followed by “Help Me I’m Gay” from their 2023 EP You’re Welcome. During the Lambrini Girls set, there was moshing, crowd surfing, singing along, and at one point, sitting on the floor.

I first saw LG perform in Jersey City when they opened for Amyl and the Sniffers and my husband asked “are they aware they’re not the headliners?” and thankfully only a few months later, I witnessed them actually headline a show with the same commanding energy and left the venue feeling very certain that the next time I see them perform here, it will be a headline set in a larger venue.

BLAHAJTRIP [2022]

1:1, phone camera, in order: Corrigin, Wave Rock, Border Village, Iron Knob, Great Australian Bight, Port Augusta, Streaky Bay, Adelaide

BLAHAJTRIP is an eight-photo set of images taken while travelling through Southwestern Australia for two weeks by car. The stuffed shark plays a symbolic role, representing the transitional nature of travel, as well as the liminal stage of the photographer's life, drawing parallels between the two. All images, except the last, anthropomorphise the shark by virtue of its isolation within the frame. All eight photos appear in chronological order of the timeline of travel, and showcase the journey away from the photographer's current place of residence to his second childhood home.

I hate the idea of living in a city because I hate people and crowds and large noises and I've lived in relatively small towns (including one that was like, 200 people max and our biggest store was a Route 66 gas station) but the ability to just go to an aquarium or a zoo or a museum without needing it to be a multiple day trip would be so nice :(
