Pvt schools can't harass parents over fee hike: Jharkhand education minister - Times of India
Tumblr media
RANCHI: Private schools cannot harass parents demanding exorbitant fees reminded education minister Jagarnath Mahato.
State education minister Jagarnath Mahato said: “There has been several complaints from parents after this new government came to power in December last year that private schools in the name of re-admission, development fees and several other fees have to be paid along with tuition fees when a child is re-admitted in the new academic session.”
The minister added that Team Hemant will act with an iron hand on those schools flouting rules and demanding exorbitant amount from parents. He pointed out that in the recent past CM Hemant Soren himself had made it clear to all schools, including the private ones, that no student can be barred from writing examination if his/her parents have not cleared pending fees.
Jagarnath said any schools still hikes the fees by several folds or demands money under other sub-heads, parents are free register their complaint with the respective deputy commissioners. He said if any such complaint is received against any schools immediate action would be taken against that institution.
Notably, at a janata durbar of health minister Banna Gupta in Jamshedpur last week, the minister had received several complaints against steep fee hike in private schools. The minister had assured all the masses that he would look into the matter and if required take action against that school found guilty.
Banna had also said annual audit should be done of the private schools.
Parents are overjoyed with the minister’s announcement. Sapan Kumar Mukherjee, whose daughter studies in a prominent English medium school in Jamshedpur pointed out in 2018, the admission fees to the LKG Class was Rs 38,000, which was nearly doubled to Rs 61,000 in the next year and this year the notice reads that the amount will be around Rs 74,000.
Another parent Rituparna Kashyap lamented that she has two kids and every year in the month of March, she has to shell out around Rs1.2 lakh for the re-admission of both of them, which is often difficult.
