I did forget about the book asks but now I'm going to send you one. Funniest book you read last year?
It's got to be this book by Denzil Meyrick called "Ghosts in the Gloaming" which was a combination of....wild hijinks between two rival fishermen on a 1960s scottish island, one of whom Made It Big As A Cruise Ship Captain after cheating on a key navigation exam, and....one fisherman receiving spirit guidance from a ghost Viking. Everything happens in this book. There are topping and tailing jokes which should not have made me cry with laughter. Part of a boat explodes. There's a Boat Lawyer. Did I mention the ghost Viking?

The Christmas Stocking Murders by Denzil Meyrick @Lochlomonden @bantambooksuk @RandomTTours
An expertly crafted, well-baked comedy caper with a serious side of crime and a dash of romance here and there to spice the mix. It’s exactly the festive treat that Santa ordered and I loved it.

Rory McCann (The Hound/Sandor Clegane) has been tapped to portray a Scottish police investigator in an upcoming eight-part TV series.
The eight-part drama, which is without a broadcaster or distributor, is written and directed by I Hate Suzie director Anthony Neilson and adapted from the books by former police officer Denzil Meyrick, who is also exec producing.
McCann, who starred as Sandor Clegane in the HBO mega-hit and appeared in Jumanji: The Next Level, will play Scotland-based DCI Daley.
[ ... ]
“These stories are much more than typical whodunnits and the whole team is committed to delivering a complex, compelling, and accessible series that will stand to comparison with the best adult dramas from Europe and the US,” said Neilson.
The adaptation seems to be based broadly on author Denzil Meyrick‘s Scottish crime novels rather than on any specific one of them.
The initials in Rory McCann’s character, DCI Jim Daley, stand for Detective Chief Inspector. That seems to imply he’s sort of a boss. Sounds like good casting.

Dark Suits & Sad Songs by Denzil Meyrick
I enjoy this series of tartan noir, the characters well portrayed and has earthy humour. Jim Daley is back with his mate Brian Scott.
Since being off work, shot and seriously injured in the line of duty, Scott has turned to alcohol. He has been offered a return back to work on light duties but he is struggling to give up the drink. A problem that doesn't go unnoticed with his work colleagues.
A yacht is set alight in Kinrock Harbour and a human torch is found. Another badly decomposed body is found at sea.
A holidaying family on their cruiser are rammed at sea in bad visibility. But the boat who rams them doesn't stop to help when their boat starts to sink. Instead they come back to shoot the teenage daughter.
These are all professional hits. There's corruption high up in police Scotland & Parliament. Daley is convinced his old nemesis Donald, has something to do with it.
There are known European/Serbian villains turning up in Kinrock, and Jim Daley doesn't know who to trust.
Liz, Daleys estranged wife, is reaching out to him to reconcile to be a family with their baby son James.
The graphic violence is escalating & it is horrifying what humans will do to each other (supergluing a body part together to stop them emptying their bowels).
Drugs, cartels, corruption, murders & UFO's. Its all there. Along with its expected black humour/banter. Recommended crime series.

"Would have made a huge difference" - Lots of Rangers fans bemoan "massive miss" in Old Firm
Rangers suffered a heartbreaking Old Firm derby defeat to Celtic on Sunday, a game in which many of their supporters thought they were missing one man in particular.
Despite being behind, the Gers struggled to create many opportunities late on as Gerrard’s men fell to a 2-0 defeat.
The name on everyone’s lips during and after the game was Ryan Kent, as Rangers supporters took to Twitter wishing they had him back.
One fan said they wanted the top dogs at the club to pay Liverpool “whatever” to sign him as another commented that they missed the 22-year-old so badly on Sunday.
A further individual said he’d have made a huge difference to the game as the winger’s inventiveness and class was lacking from the match.
Kent spent last season on loan at Ibrox, where he scored six and assisted nine in all competitions, per Transfermarkt.
The Liverpool man scored in the Old Firm back in March so there’s certainly a case to say he could have had an impact on proceedings.
Here’s the best of the discussion.
Hi @RangersFC if you could pass this on to the top dogs like auld Dave please.
Hi Dave currently been scouting a player called Ryan kent he’s pretty decent. He knows how to beat a man and pass the ball accurately.
I recommend paying some money for him, give Liverpool whatever
— king kamara (@KingKamara_) September 1, 2019
One thing today will no doubt do is intensify the clamour for Rangers to try and do a deal for Ryan Kent.
You can argue over his output but he showed last season that he’s a big-game player. We were badly lacking that mentality today.
— Ted (@NewcoTed) September 1, 2019
I expected more the day. Goal was a gift from that diddy Goldson. If there’s any evidence needed that we need to spend a few bob on Ryan Kent, this is it.
— Alex O’Harney (@BigHovis1987) September 1, 2019
We missed a player like Ryan Kent so badly today
— – (@LockieA55) September 1, 2019
We need Ryan Kent
— Trip (@Tripflexx) September 1, 2019
Kamara off? Wrong call, no wingers to start the game? Wrong call, Gerrard got it all wrong today and there’s no question about it, all we showed today is that Ryan Kent is still MASSIVELY needed
— Gary Stephen (@GaryStephen4321) September 1, 2019
After the early promise definitely a wake up call today also apparent to me after our biggest 2 games of the season Ryan Kent seems to b a massive miss. Some of the boys were like rabbits caught in headlights.
— Brian Samson (@briansamson1972) September 1, 2019
Hate to say it. But Ryan Kent would have made a huge difference here.
— Joel (@WEWYRB) September 1, 2019
Lots of praise for Aribo lately. Got to say, I’m not seeing it. Really missing the class and inventiveness of Ryan Kent. Winger required in the second half. And the bull! #Rangers

And now we have arrived at the middle of July and I have no idea how that happened or what is going on anymore. 🤷‍♀️ I mean. Sure … it’s nice to reach ‘summer’, and it means that some more book related activities (other than reading) are just around the corner, but still. My brain cannot process it. This coming weekend is ‘Harrogate’ weekend and if that is not a sign we are on a fast march to…
