Tafsir Ibn Kathir: Surah Al-Nahl Ayah 35-37
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
16:35 And those who worshipped others with Allah said: "If Allah had so willed, neither we nor our fathers would have worshipped any but Him nor would we have forbidden anything without (a command from) Him.''
Those before them did the same. Then! Are the Messengers charged with anything but to clearly convey the Message!
16:36 And We have indeed sent a Messenger to every Ummah (community, nation) (saying): "Worship Allah (Alone), and shun the Taghut (all false deities).''
Then among them were some whom Allah guided, and among them were some who deserved to be left to stray.
So travel through the land and see the end of those who denied (the truth).
16:37 (Even) if you desire that they be guided, then verily, Allah does not guide those whom He allowed to stray, and they will have no helpers.
The Idolators Argument that their Shirk was Divinely decreed, and the Refutation of this Claim
Allah tells:
And those who worshipped others with Allah said:
Allah tells us about the idolators delusion over their Shirk, and the excuse they claimed for it based on the idea that it is ordained by divine decree.
He says:
(They say:) "If Allah had so willed, neither we nor our fathers would have worshipped any but Him, nor would we have forbidden anything without (a command from) Him.''
They had superstitious customs dealing with certain animals, e.g. the Bahirah the Sa'ibah and the Wasilah and other things that they had invented and innovated by themselves, with no revealed authority. The essence of what they said was:
"If Allah hated what we did, He would have stopped by punishing us, and He would not have enabled us to do it.''
Those before them did the same.
Rejecting their confusing ideas, Allah says:
Are the Messengers charged with anything but to clearly convey the Message!
meaning, the matter is not as you claim. It is not the case that Allah did not rebuke your behavior; rather, He did rebuke you, and in the strongest possible terms, and He emphatically forbade you from such behavior. To every nation - that is, to every generation, to every community of people - He sent a Messenger. All of the Messengers called their people to worship Allah (Alone) as well as forbidding them from worshipping anything or anybody except for Him.
And We have indeed sent a Messenger to every Ummah (community, nation) (saying): "Worship Allah (alone), and shun the Taghut (all false deities).''
Allah continued sending Messengers to mankind with this Message, from the first incidence of Shirk that appeared among the Children of Adam, in the people to whom Nuh was sent - the first Messenger sent by Allah to the people of this earth - until He sent the final Messenger, Muhammad, whose call was addressed to both men and Jinn, in the east and in the west. All of the Messengers brought the same Message, as Allah says:
And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad) but We revealed to him (saying):
None has the right to be worshipped but I (Allah), so worship Me (alone and none else).'' (21:25)
And ask (O Muhammad) those Messengers of Ours whom We sent before you: "Did We ever appointed to be worshipped besides the Most Gracious (Allah)'' (43:45)
And in this Ayah, Allah says:
And We have indeed sent a Messenger to every Ummah (community, nation) (saying): "Worship Allah (alone), and shun the Taghut (all false deities).'' َSo how could any of the idolators say If Allah had so willed, we(would not have worshipped any but Him),
The legislative will of Allah is clear and cannot be taken as an excuse by them, because He had forbidden them to do that upon the tongue of His Messengers, but by His universal will (i.e., by which He allows things to occur even though they do not please Him). He allowed them to do that as it was decreed for them. So there is no argument in that for them. Allah created Hell and its people both the Shayatin (devils) and disbelievers, but He does not like His servants to disbelieve. And this point constitutes the strongest proof and the most unquestionable wisdom.
Then Allah informs us that He rebuked them with punishment in this world, after the Messengers issued their warning, thus He says:
Then among them were some whom Allah guided, and among them were some who deserved to be left to stray. So travel through the land and see the end of those who denied (the truth).
This means: ask about what happened to those who went against the Messengers and rejected the truth, see how:
Allah destroyed them completely, and a similar (end awaits) the disbelievers. (47:10)
And indeed those before them belied (the Messengers of Allah), so then how terrible was My denial (punishment). (67:18)
Then Allah told His Messenger
(Even) if you desire that they be guided, then verily, Allah does not guide those whom He allowed to stray, and they will have no helpers.
Allah told His Messenger that His eagerness to guide them will be of no benefit to them if Allah wills that they should be misguided, as He says:
And for whoever Allah wills to try with error, you can do nothing for him against Allah. (5:41)
Nuh said to his people:
"And my advice will not profit you, even if I wish to give you good counsel, if Allah's will is to keep you astray.'' (11:34)
In this Ayah, Allah says:
(Even) if you desire that they be guided, then verily, Allah does not guide those whom He allowed to stray,
As Allah says:
Whomsoever Allah allows to stray, then there is no guide for him; and He lets them wander blindly in their transgressions. (7:186)
Truly! Those deserving the Word (wrath) of your Lord will not believe, even if every sign should come to them - until they see the painful torment. (10:96-97)
,)then verily, Allah(
meaning, this is the way in which Allah does things. If He wills a thing, then it happens, and if He does not will a thing, then it does not happen.
For this reason Allah says:
Allah does not guide those whom(He allowed to stray),
meaning the one whom He has caused to go astray, so who can guide him apart from Allah No one.
And they will have no helpers.
means, they will have no one to save them from the punishment of Allah,
Surely, His is the creation and commandment. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of all that exists! (7:54)

Sorah Az-Zumar ( The Groups )
Verses Number 75
The revelation of the Qur'an is from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
Indeed, We have sent down to you the Book, [O Muhammad], in truth. So worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion.
Unquestionably, for Allah is the pure religion. And those who take protectors besides Him [say], "We only worship them that they may bring us nearer to Allah in position." Indeed, Allah will judge between them concerning that over which they differ. Indeed, Allah does not guide he who is a liar and [confirmed] disbeliever.
If Allah had intended to take a son, He could have chosen from what He creates whatever He willed. Exalted is He; He is Allah, the One, the Prevailing.
He created the heavens and earth in truth. He wraps the night over the day and wraps the day over the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. Unquestionably, He is the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver.
He created you from one soul. Then He made from it its mate, and He produced for you from the grazing livestock eight mates. He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, within three darknesses. That is Allah, your Lord; to Him belongs dominion. There is no deity except Him, so how are you averted?
If you disbelieve - indeed, Allah is Free from need of you. And He does not approve for His servants disbelief. And if you are grateful, He approves it for you; and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you about what you used to do. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
And when adversity touches man, he calls upon his Lord, turning to Him [alone]; then when He bestows on him a favor from Himself, he forgets Him whom he called upon before, and he attributes to Allah equals to mislead [people] from His way. Say, "Enjoy your disbelief for a little; indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire."
Is one who is devoutly obedient during periods of the night, prostrating and standing [in prayer], fearing the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, [like one who does not]? Say, "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding.
Say, "O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord. For those who do good in this world is good, and the earth of Allah is spacious. Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account."
Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, I have been commanded to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion.
And I have been commanded to be the first [among you] of the Muslims."
Say, "Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day."
Say, "Allah [alone] do I worship, sincere to Him in my religion,
So worship what you will besides Him." Say, "Indeed, the losers are the ones who will lose themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection. Unquestionably, that is the manifest loss."
They will have canopies of fire above them and below them, canopies. By that Allah threatens His servants. O My servants, then fear Me.
But those who have avoided Taghut, lest they worship it, and turned back to Allah - for them are good tidings. So give good tidings to My servants
Who listen to speech and follow the best of it. Those are the ones Allah has guided, and those are people of understanding.
Then, is one who has deserved the decree of punishment [to be guided]? Then, can you save one who is in the Fire?
But those who have feared their Lord - for them are chambers, above them chambers built high, beneath which rivers flow. [This is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in [His] promise.
Do you not see that Allah sends down rain from the sky and makes it flow as springs [and rivers] in the earth; then He produces thereby crops of varying colors; then they dry and you see them turned yellow; then He makes them [scattered] debris. Indeed in that is a reminder for those of understanding.
So is one whose breast Allah has expanded to [accept] Islam and he is upon a light from his Lord [like one whose heart rejects it]? Then woe to those whose hearts are hardened against the remembrance of Allah. Those are in manifest error.
Allah has sent down the best statement: a consistent Book wherein is reiteration. The skins shiver therefrom of those who fear their Lord; then their skins and their hearts relax at the remembrance of Allah. That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whom He wills. And one whom Allah leaves astray - for him there is no guide.
Then is he who will shield with his face the worst of the punishment on the Day of Resurrection [like one secure from it]? And it will be said to the wrongdoers, "Taste what you used to earn."
Those before them denied, and punishment came upon them from where they did not perceive.
So Allah made them taste disgrace in worldly life. But the punishment of the Hereafter is greater, if they only knew.
And We have certainly presented for the people in this Qur'an from every [kind of] example - that they might remember.
[It is] an Arabic Qur'an, without any deviance that they might become righteous.
Allah presents an example: a slave owned by quarreling partners and another belonging exclusively to one man - are they equal in comparison? Praise be to Allah! But most of them do not know.
Indeed, you are to die, and indeed, they are to die.
Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, before your Lord, will dispute.
So who is more unjust than one who lies about Allah and denies the truth when it has come to him? Is there not in Hell a residence for the disbelievers?
And the one who has brought the truth and [they who] believed in it - those are the righteous.
They will have whatever they desire with their Lord. That is the reward of the doers of good -
That Allah may remove from them the worst of what they did and reward them their due for the best of what they used to do.
Is not Allah sufficient for His Servant [Prophet Muhammad]? And [yet], they threaten you with those [they worship] other than Him. And whoever Allah leaves astray - for him there is no guide.
And whoever Allah guides - for him there is no misleader. Is not Allah Exalted in Might and Owner of Retribution?
And if you asked them, "Who created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, "Allah." Say, "Then have you considered what you invoke besides Allah? If Allah intended me harm, are they removers of His harm; or if He intended me mercy, are they withholders of His mercy?" Say, "Sufficient for me is Allah; upon Him [alone] rely the [wise] reliers."
Say, "O my people, work according to your position, [for] indeed, I am working; and you are going to know
To whom will come a torment disgracing him and on whom will descend an enduring punishment."
Indeed, We sent down to you the Book for the people in truth. So whoever is guided - it is for [the benefit of] his soul; and whoever goes astray only goes astray to its detriment. And you are not a manager over them.
Allah takes the souls at the time of their death, and those that do not die [He takes] during their sleep. Then He keeps those for which He has decreed death and releases the others for a specified term. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.
Or have they taken other than Allah as intercessors? Say, "Even though they do not possess [power over] anything, nor do they reason?"
Say, "To Allah belongs [the right to allow] intercession entirely. To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. Then to Him you will be returned."
And when Allah is mentioned alone, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink with aversion, but when those [worshipped] other than Him are mentioned, immediately they rejoice.
Say, "O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, You will judge between your servants concerning that over which they used to differ."
And if those who did wrong had all that is in the earth entirely and the like of it with it, they would [attempt to] ransom themselves thereby from the worst of the punishment on the Day of Resurrection. And there will appear to them from Allah that which they had not taken into account.
And there will appear to them the evils they had earned, and they will be enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
And when adversity touches man, he calls upon Us; then when We bestow on him a favor from Us, he says, "I have only been given it because of [my] knowledge." Rather, it is a trial, but most of them do not know.
Those before them had already said it, but they were not availed by what they used to earn.
And the evil consequences of what they earned struck them. And those who have wronged of these [people] will be afflicted by the evil consequences of what they earned; and they will not cause failure.
Do they not know that Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]? Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
And return [in repentance] to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped.
And follow the best of what was revealed to you from your Lord before the punishment comes upon you suddenly while you do not perceive,
Lest a soul should say, "Oh [how great is] my regret over what I neglected in regard to Allah and that I was among the mockers."
Or [lest] it say, "If only Allah had guided me, I would have been among the righteous."
Or [lest] it say when it sees the punishment, "If only I had another turn so I could be among the doers of good."
But yes, there had come to you My verses, but you denied them and were arrogant, and you were among the disbelievers.
And on the Day of Resurrection you will see those who lied about Allah [with] their faces blackened. Is there not in Hell a residence for the arrogant?
And Allah will save those who feared Him by their attainment; no evil will touch them, nor will they grieve.
Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is, over all things, Disposer of affairs.
To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth. And they who disbelieve in the verses of Allah - it is those who are the losers.
Say, [O Muhammad], "Is it other than Allah that you order me to worship, O ignorant ones?"
And it was already revealed to you and to those before you that if you should associate [anything] with Allah, your work would surely become worthless, and you would surely be among the losers."
Rather, worship [only] Allah and be among the grateful.
They have not appraised Allah with true appraisal, while the earth entirely will be [within] His grip on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be folded in His right hand. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.
And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead except whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on.
And the earth will shine with the light of its Lord, and the record [of deeds] will be placed, and the prophets and the witnesses will be brought, and it will be judged between them in truth, and they will not be wronged.
And every soul will be fully compensated [for] what it did; and He is most knowing of what they do.
And those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups until, when they reach it, its gates are opened and its keepers will say, "Did there not come to you messengers from yourselves, reciting to you the verses of your Lord and warning you of the meeting of this Day of yours?" They will say, "Yes, but the word of punishment has come into effect upon the disbelievers.
[To them] it will be said, "Enter the gates of Hell to abide eternally therein, and wretched is the residence of the arrogant."
But those who feared their Lord will be driven to Paradise in groups until, when they reach it while its gates have been opened and its keepers say, "Peace be upon you; you have become pure; so enter it to abide eternally therein," [they will enter].
And they will say, "Praise to Allah, who has fulfilled for us His promise and made us inherit the earth [so] we may settle in Paradise wherever we will. And excellent is the reward of [righteous] workers."
And you will see the angels surrounding the Throne, exalting [Allah] with praise of their Lord. And it will be judged between them in truth, and it will be said, "[All] praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds."

A brief description of - Taghut
The word “Taghut” covers a wide range of meanings: it means anyone or anything that is worshipped or obeyed or followed or submitted to instead of Allah (SWT) is Taghut, it could be: - A person (male or female) etc e.g. a ruler or leader (King, Queen, President, Prime Minister or a Holy Person) who are falsely obeyed & worshipped instead of Allah (SWT). Also it may be - Jinn-Satan - Rocks/Stones - graves - Idols – sun – stars - Law and order/Ideas - Animal- Doctor etc. Thus, one can never accept and follow a Taghut and keep his Imaan at the same time. In the Holy Quran, Almighty Allah (SWT) has used the word “Tagha” in nearly fifty places and has used the word Taghut directly in eight places. Overall we have understood that “Tagha” means to go beyond limits and Taghut means transgressor. So he who goes beyond the limits becomes a Taghut. Now we have to know specifically what is “the limit” that has been described here. Everything in the Universe and beyond it is divided into TWO. 1. The Creator – The Lord (Allah SWT) 2. The creation – The Slave Humans, Jinns, Angels, plants, animals everything that is visible and everything that is invisible – their One and Only Creator is Allah (SWT). Everything that exists is His creation. A boundary exists between the Creator and His creation. The Creator has determined and fixed this boundary for His creation with His Powers. And whoever transgresses this boundary has been described as Taghut in the Holy Quran. Allah (SWT) said : "There is no compulsion in the deen, the right path has become distinct from the wrong path, whoever rejects Taghut, and believes in Allah, he has got a firm hold of the most trustworthy handhold that will never break, and Allah is the All hearing, all knowing."[2: 256] Ibn Kathir in his Tafsir (interpretation of the Qur’an) said regarding this Ayah: “Whoever rejects the rivals of Allah, the idols, and those that Shaytan calls to be worshipped besides Allah. Whoever believes in Allah’s Oneness, worships Him alone and testifies that there is no deity worth of worship except Him, then he has got a firm hold of the most trustworthy handhold. Thus, this person will have acquired firmness (in religion) and proceeded on the correct way and straight path.”Also the right path being distinct is the Prophet (SAW) coming and the most trustworthy handhold is Imaan [Tafseer of: Ibn Mas'oud, Ibn Abbas and Ali (RAA)] This Ayah dictates to us the importance of rejecting Taghut. Only by rejecting Taghut can we gain the most trustworthy handhold which is Imaan. Taghut is of five kinds. A brief description of each is given below: THE HEAD OF TAGHUT: 1- SHAYTAAN WHO CALLS YOU TO OBEY, WORSHIP OR FOLLOW APART FROM ALLAH (Can be Iblees, Jinn or Man); Allah (SWT) said: “Did I not ordain for you, O Children of Adam, that you should not worship Shaitân (Satan). Verily, he is a plain enemy to you. And that you should worship Me [Alone Islâmic Monotheism, and set up not rivals, associate-gods with Me]. That is a Straight Path. And indeed he (Satan) did lead astray a great multitude of you. Did you not, then, understand?" [Ya sin (36): 60- 62] 2- THE RULER WHO REPLACES THE SHARI'AH WITH ANYTHING ELSE; Allah (SWT) said:" “Have you not seen those (hypocrites) who claim that they believe in that which has been sent down to you, and that which was sent down before you? They wish to go for judgement (in their disputes) to the Taghut (false judges) while they have been ordered to reject them. But Shaitan (satan) wishes to lead them "[Nisaa (4): 60] 3- WHOSOEVER JUDGES DIFFERENTLY FROM WHAT ALLAH HAS REVEALED Allah (SWT) said:" And whosoever does not judge by what Allâh has revealed, such are the Kâfirûn (i.e. disbelievers - of a lesser degree as they do not act on Allâh's Laws). "[Ma'idah (5): 44] the meaning here is the judge or ruler who rules by laws other than Allah’s Law (i.e. Shariah). 4- ANYONE WHO CLAIMS THAT HE KNOWS THE GHAIB (UNSEEN) INSTEAD OF WHAT ALLAH (SWT) HAS INFORMED US Allah (SWT) said:" And with Him are the keys of the Ghaib (all that is hidden), none knows them but He. And He knows whatever there is in (or on) the earth and in the sea; not a leaf falls, but he knows it. There is not a grain in the darkness of the earth nor anything fresh or dry, but is written in a Clear Record."[An'am (6): 59] 5- THE ONE WHO HAS BEEN WORSHIPPED INSTEAD OF ALLAH AND HE CONSENTS TO BE WORSHIPPED Allah (SWT) said:" And if any of them should say: "Verily, I am an ilâh (a god) besides Him (Allâh)," such a one We should recompense with Hell. Thus We recompense the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.) "[Anbiyah (21) : 29] Thus the government or supporters of any social system that has been shunned by Islam, such as Imperialism, Socialism, Dictatorship, and the present prevailing Democracy; who claim to have the right to formulate laws and legislations with their logics and ideas are none but Taghut. Almighty Allah (SWT) has commanded us to reject all Taghuts and worship Him alone with full obedience. So those follow or support the law and order and system of Taghut besides obeying Allah (SWT), they invoke partners with Allah and commit acts of shirk, for which they shall abide in hellfire forever. We would like to draw an end to our discussion with the following verse : “Once the matter has been decided, Shaitan (Satan) will say: "In fact, the promises which Allah made to you were all true; I too made some promises to you but failed to keep any of them. However, I had no power over you. I just invited you, and you accepted my invitation. Now! Do not blame me, but blame yourselves. I cannot help you, nor can you help me. I reject what you did before; that you associated me with Allah. Certainly such wrongdoers will have painful punishment.” (Surah-Al-Ibrahim 14:22). So Honorable Reader, let us not follow the footsteps of shaitan who will deny on the day of judgement of all his conspiracies and attempts to make us commit sin and derail us from Allah’s Deen (Islam). As a superior creation of Allah (SWT) we have been ordered to worship Him and Him alone, and to reject all kinds of Taghut. So if we follow Taghut besides worshipping Allah (SWT), or if we support the system of Taghut then the Hell fire will forever be our abode! So let us reject all Taghut and declare that “LAA ILAHA ILLALLAH” THERE IS NO LORD BUT ALLAH, not only with our lips but also with our heart and action; for none has the right to be worshipped but Him The Almighty Allah (SWT). Let us whole heartedly dedicate ourselves in an effort to rule this world by the will (rulings) of Almighty Allah (SWT), the ONLY sovereign. May Allah (SWT) nominate all of us for this deed and accept all our efforts for Allah’s cause.

Popular  TOPIC -: Aslu Dīn (The Foundation of Religion)     In the Name of Allāh the Most Beneficent the Most Merciful.     Aslu Dīn (The Foundation of Religion) is known as first part of Shahādatain Kalima which is "La iLāha 'illAllāh". And with this Message every Prophet came to every Ummah (nation). And Allāh Azza'wajal created us only for this purpose, only to worship Allāh alone by not associating anything with Him. So whoever doesn't know or fulfilled Aslu Dīn cannot be a believer (Muslim), so whoever doesn't know or fulfill Aslu Dīn is considered as a Aslī Mushrik Kāfir (original polytheist disbeliever) who never entered Islam even if the person claimed to be a born Muslim or a revert Muslim. There is NO Excuse regarding Aslu Dīn. And ignorance in knowledge (uzur bil jahl), misinterpretation (wrong ta'wīl), blindly following a scholar (being a muqallid) are NOT excuses for Aslu Dīn. Because Allāh established Hujjah upon Mankind by Qur'an & sending Prophets. This is the foundation of religion clear like day and night.    Aslu Dīn / The Foundation of Religion is, Lā iLāha 'illAllāh. And it is divided into 2 category and that is known as 2 pillars of Kalima. First pillar is "Lā iLāha" which means Kufr bit-Taghoot (Disbelief in False Gods) and the second pillar is "illAllāh" which means Al Emaan Billāh (Belief in Allāh).   Evidence for this is the speech of, The Almighty Allāh says -:    “There is no compulsion in the religion. Verily the Right path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever rejects Taghoot and believes in Allah, than he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break, and Allah is the All hearing, all knowing.” [Surah al-Baqarah, Ayah; 256]     And Allāh says -: "And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (nation) a Messenger (proclaiming) : "Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghoot (all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah)." Then of them were some whom Allah guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth). [Surah An-Nahl, Ayah; 36]     The Mujaddid (Renewal) of Islam, al-Imām of Najd, Ash-Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul-wahhāb [may Allāh have mercy upon him] mentioned in his book, "Risālah Aslu Dīn Al-Islām wa Qā’idatuhu,   page, 01" -:     "Aslu Dīn al-Islām and its principles are in two issues:    The first -: The commandment of worshipping Allāh alone Who has no partners, the incitation to this, allying based on this and declaring takfīr on whoever leaves this.    The second -: Warning against shirk in the worship of Allāh, being harsh in this, having enmity based on this and declaring takfīr on whoever commits this." - End of quote.     *** 1st Pillar -: Kufr bit-Taghoot (Disbelief in False Gods and False Deities) ***     = What is Taghoot?     There are 5 heads of Taghoot:     1.) Shaytān who calls you to obey, worship or follow different from Allāh (Can be Iblees, Jinn or Man).    Allāh Almighty said -:    “Did I not command you O children of Adam? That you should not worship shaitan, verily he is a plain enemy to you. And that you should worship me alone, that is the straight path. And indeed he did lead astray a great multitude of you, did you not, then understand?” [Yasin 36:60- 62]     2.) The Ruler who replaces the shari’ah (The laws of Allāh) with other laws.    Allāh Almighty said -:    “Have you seen those who claim to believe in what was sent to you and sent down before you? And they wish to go to judgement in their disputes (At Tahakum) to the Taghout while they have been ordered to reject them, but Shaytan wishes to lead them far astray.” [Nisaa 4:60]       3.) Whosoever Judges different from what Allāh revealed.   Allāh Almighty said -:    “Whosoever Judges by other than what Allah revealed is al-Kafirun” [Ma’idah 5:44]    The meaning here is the judge or the ruler or any similar. Also any person who rules/judges by other than what is revealed even in his own home is Kafir.     4.) Anyone who claims that he knows the ghaib (i.e unseen knowledge) instead of what Allāh has informed us.    Allāh Almighty said -:    “(Allah) is the all knower of the Ghaib, and he (Allah) does not reveal to anybody, the ghaib.” [Jinn 72:26]    Allāh Almighty said -:    “And with him (Allah The Most High) are the keys of the Ghaib. None knows it but he, and he knows whatever is in land and the sea; not a leaf falls but he knows it, there is not a grain in the darkness of the earth nor anything fresh or dry, but is written in a clear record.” [An’am 6:59]     5.) The one who has been worshiped instead of Allāh and he consents to be worshipped.    Allāh Almighty said -:    “And the one who claims “I am an iLāh” we will reward him with hellfire this is how we reward the oppressors.” [Anbiyah 21:29]     The above 5 heads of Taghoot are mentioned in the book "Kitaab ut Tawheed"  by, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhāb [rahimahullāh].     = How to Disbelieve in Taghoot?     So the person who utters Shahādatayn Kalima must learn above knowledge as it's mentioned, only than the person can fulfill the 1st pillar with it's 5 conditions. Below there are 5 conditions of this pillar.     - The 5 conditions of al-Kufr bit-Taghoot:     1.) To believe that the worship of Taghūt is Baatil (false, useless). The way you declare Kufr in Taghoot is to first to believe that it (taghoot) is falsehood.    Allāh Almighty said -:    “That is because Allah – he is the truth, and what they invoke besides him, it is Batil. And verily, Allah – he is the most high, the most great.” [Hajj 22:62]     2.) To keep distance from Taghoot (Ijtinaab ut taghūt). It is essential that we distance ourselves from All Taghoot.    Allāh Almighty said -:    “And verily we have sent among every Ummah a Messenger (proclaiming): “Worship Allah (alone), and keep distance from Taghout.” Then of them were some whom Allah guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied.” [Nahl 16:36]     3.) Declaring animosity towards Taghoot (Al ‘Adaawa lil taghout). You Must Hate Taghūt and declare war on Taghūt.    Allāh Almighty informed us about Prophet Ibrāheem (peace & blessings of Allāh be upon him) -:    “Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim and those with him, when they said to their people: “Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allah: we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you hostility and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone…” [Mumtahinah 60:4]     4.) Hatred (Al Bugdh). There is no way for a believer to believe in Allāh Almighty and love Allāh Almighty, and also love the Shaytān, or any other Taghoot. But rather we must hate those who hate Allāh The Glorious, and we must hate all Taghoot.    Allāh Almighty said -:    “Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim and those with him, when they said to their people: “Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allah: we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you hostility and hatred forever until you believe in Allah alone…” [Mumtahinah 60:4]    Allāh Almighty said -:    “He (Ibrahim) said: “Do you see now that which you worship, you and your fathers before you? For they are enemies to me except the Lord of the Worlds” [Shuara 26:75-77]     5.) Declare Takfeer on Taghoot (Takfeer Al Taghūt), and those who worship them. It is impossible for someone to insist that any Taghūt is Muslim, we cannot disbelieve in Shaytān, distancing ourselves from him, hating him, declaring animosity on him, and then insist that he is Muslim, rather we must make Takfeer on him, and call him Kāfir beyond any doubt. The same applies for those who worship others besides Allāh. A Muslim is one who has accepted Islamic monotheism as his or her religion. Since Islamic Monotheism is to worship Allāh Alone, it is impossible for anyone who worships something else besides Allāh to be a part of this religion.   Takfīr upon Taghoot & Mushrikeen is a obliged [Fardh] upon each & every Muslim just like the Fardh 5 Salāh.   Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) “Say O you who disbelieve”   Allâh (جل وعلا) didn’t say, “Say O Quraysh”, rather He said “Say [Muhammâd] O you who disbelieve”.   Shaykh al-‘Allāmah Muhammâd ibn ‘Atiq (رحمه الله) says as it’s [mentioned] in his book “Sabīl al-Najā wal-Fikāk min Sabīl Mawālāt al-Murtadīn wa Ahlâl Ishrāk” on Page 67, Shaykh says -:   “And the meaning [of this verse] is: To profess/declare disbelief upon them”   Footnotes:-   Meaning: The purpose of this Sūrah, the chapter of disassociation from Shirk, Sūrat al-Kāfirūn, what is the purpose of it? To profess/declare disbelief upon them [the disbelievers].     Ash-Shāykh Suleimān ibn 'Sahmān al-Najd [Rahimahullāh Ta'āla] said -:   "Whoever doesn't make Takfīr of the one who does Shirk to Allāh in ibādah and doesn't make barā from him isn't a Muslim indeed & the words "Lā ilāha illAllāh" don't benefit him at all. If he is sincere than he needs to make barā from Shirk & those who do it and his ibādah needs to be just for Allāh alone. This is Aslu Dīn Al Islām. (The Foundation of Religion)"   Reference : [Al-Asinatul Hidād, Page, 163]   Above detailed explanation is 1st pillar of Aslu Dīn and Learning it & acting upon it is the first Fardh (obligatory) upon who utters Shahādatain Kalima. When a person fulfilled above mentioned pillar & it's conditions than the person can easily fulfill 2nd pillar.   *** 2nd Pillar -: Al-Emān Billāh (Belief in Allāh). ***   Conditions of Imaan Billah -:   Imaan is conviction in the heart, testified by the tongue and practised willingly, it is not only in the heart, but rather Imaan is Sayings and Actions.   = There are 3 conditions of Imaan Billah:   1.) Imaan Rububiyyah – To believe in the Lordship of Allāh Almighty Exclusively.   That is to believe in all of his functions of being the lord of mankind exclusively, e.g. the creator, sustainer and provider.   Allāh Almighty said -:   “(Who is Allah?) Allah is the one created you, then he provided for you, then he made us die and gave us life again. Are any of those who are your partners do the same?” [Rum 30:40]   2.) Imaan Bil Asmaa was Sifaat – To believe in All of Allāh’s Almighty names and attributes Exclusively.   To believe exclusively in all of his names and attributes.   Allāh Almighty said -:   “There is nothing like Almighty Allah, …” [Shura 42:11]   3.) Imaan bil Uluhiyyah – To Believe in His Sovereignty. To believe in Allāh as the “ilah” exclusively.   In other words that Allāh Almighty is the only one worthy of worship and thereby the only one worshipped. Allāh’s Uluhiyyah is Allāh’s right upon mankind that they dedicate all their worship, in all kinds, exclusively for Him Alone.   Allāh Almighty said -:   “Say (O Muhammad Peace be upon him): “I am only a man like you. It has been inspired to me that your Ilāh (God) is One Ilāh (God i.e. Allāh). So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord let him work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord.”” [Kahf 18:110]   And in a Hadith: Narrated Mu’adh bin Jabal: The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said -: “O Mu’adh! Do you know what Allah’s Right upon His slaves is?”   I said, “Allah and His Apostle know best.”   The Prophet said, “To worship Him (Allah) Alone and to join none in worship with Him (Allah). And Do you know what their right upon Him is?”   I replied, “Allah and His Apostle know best.”   The Prophet said, “Not to punish them (if they do so)”.   Reference -: ‎[Bukhari, Volume 9, Book 93, Number 470]     *** 7 Conditions of Aslu Dīn ***     1) al-ilm – (Knowledge)   The meaning of ‘Lā iLāha ‘illa Allāh’ and its intent are affirmation and negation, so knowledge negates ignorance.   2) Al-Yaqeen – (Certainty)   The second condition is certainty which negates doubt, such that the one who pronounces ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ does it with certainty of what these words indicate, with a decisive certainty. This is sinceEemaan cannot do without certain knowledge (Ilm al-Yaqeen), as opposed to suspicious knowledge (Ilm al-Thann), and what would be the case if doubt entered Eemaan?   3) al-Qabool – (Acceptance)   Acceptance of what this statement necessitates is with the heart and the tongue.   4) Al-Inqiyaad – (Submission & Obedience)   Submission and obedience to what ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ requires and that it negates disobedience.   5) Sidq – (Truthfulness)   Truthfulness to ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ negates lying, falsehood and it is to say ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’ truthfully from one’s heart and to make one’s speech in accordance to what is in one’s heart.   6) Al-Ikhlaas – (Sincerity)   Sincerity is purifying actions from all the stains of Shirk with righteous intention.   7) Al-Muhabbah – (Love)   Which is having love for this statement, what it necessitates and indicates, loving its people – those who act upon it, adhering to its conditions – and to hate what violates it.   Above detailed explanation is 2 pillars & 7 conditions of Aslu Dīn. And Learning it & acting upon it is the first Fardh (obligatory) upon who utters Shahādatain Kalima. So whoever fulfilled this will be considered as a Muslim Muwahhid.     This is The Aqīdāh of Ahlu Sunnāh Jama'āh.   This is the Manhaj of all Prophets & Sahābī's of Rasūlullāh [Salāllāhu Alayhi wasāllam] & Tabī'een & Tabā'Tabī'een. (Salaf As Sālihūn)   This is the Millāh of Prophet Ibrāhīm peace & blessings of Allāh be upon him.   This is the call of Imām of Muwāhidīn & Messenger of Allāh Muhammad ibn Abdullāh peace & blessings of Allāh be upon him.   Written By -: Abu Mishkā Al-Madheefī.

Tawheed’s main pillar is rejecting Taghut
Tauheed refers to the nature of God. Tawhid or Tawheed or Tauhid means to unite, to show unity “. In Islam, it means the Oneness of God, in the sense that Allah is the Only ‘true God’. Allah is the One and there is no God but Him, Tawheed is the central, single and most important aspect of Islam. The opposite of #Tauhid is #Taghut. Taghut is something which is worshiped instead of Allah or besides Allah. Tawheed has to be accepted by rejecting Taghut first. A Muslim’s complete religious allegiance depends on Tauhid. The first part of the Shahada (Islamic declaration of faith) is the declaration of faith in the Oneness of God. The Shahada connects the Muslim with the ultimate truth of Tawheed. Tawhid means the belief that Allah Alone is the 'True God’. There is no true God but Allah. Shahada is the proof of the absolute truth of the Oneness of Allah. The recognition and testimony of Shahadah allows Muslims to be sure that their full attention is on Allah.

Reject Taghut and worship Allah Alone [SWT]
Tawhid means to accept and believe in the Oneness of Allah (SWT) and in the Uniqueness of His Message. It means to worship Allah (SWT) Alone, and to worship Him in accordance with His legislation. … This is the natural consequence of belief in the Unity of Allah [SWT].Tawhid  refers to the nature of God. In modern times, the term is also applied to earthly tyrannical power, as implied in surah An-Nisa verse 60. Rejecting Taghoot (Taghut) is obligatory on every Muslim. Denying / rejecting Taghut is one of the main pillars of Tawhid
# #Taghut #Taghout worshiped instead or_besides_Allah
Taghut/Taghout طاغُوت is an Arabic term that is specifically used to denounce everything that is worshiped instead or besides Allah. ... The Arabic word Taghut is derived from the root ط-غ-ت which denotes to cross the limits, overstep boundaries; to rebel. This explains the meaning of one who exceeds the limit.
And certainly, We have raised (brought to life, charged with a duty) in every nation a Messenger. For them to become servants to Allah and avoid Tâgût (human and jinn Satans). So there were some of them whom Allah delivered to Hidayet (those who have wished to reach Allah upon the call of the Messenger) and of them were some upon whom Misguidance was justified (who did not wish). So travel in the land. Then see what the end of the deniers was.

Daily Tafsir of Ibn Kathir
The Order for Tawhid and the Refutation of Shirk
Allah tells us that the revelation of this Book, which is the magnificent Qur'an, is from Him, and is truth in which there is no doubt whatsoever. This is like the Ayat:
(And truly, this is a revelation from the Lord of the creatures, which the trustworthy Ruh (Jibril) has brought down upon your heart that you may be (one) of the warners, in the plain Arabic language.) (26:192-195)
(And verily, it is a mighty Book. Falsehood cannot come to it from before it or behind it, (it is) sent down by the All-Wise, Worthy of all praise.) (40: 41,42) And Allah says here:
(The revelation of this Book is from Allah, the Almighty,) meaning, the Almighty, All-Powerful.
(the All-Wise.) meaning, in all that He says, does, legislates and decrees.
(Verily, We have sent down the Book to you in truth. So, worship Allah by doing religious deeds sincerely for Him only.) means, so worship Allah Alone with no partner or associate, and call mankind to that, and teach them that it is not right to worship anyone or anything except Him Alone, and He has no partner, equal or rival. Allah says:
(Surely, the religion is for Allah only.) meaning, He will not accept any deed unless it is done purely and sincerely for Him Alone, with no partner or associate. Then Allah tells us that the idolators say:
(We worship them only that they may bring us near to Allah.) meaning what motivates them to worship them is the fact that they made their idols in the image of the angels -- or so they claim -- and when they worship those images it is like worshipping the angels, so that they will intercede with Allah for them to help and give them provision and other worldly needs. As far as the resurrection is concerned, they denied it and did not believe in it. Qatadah, As-Suddi and Malik said, narrating from Zayd bin Aslam and Ibn Zayd:
(only that they may bring us near to Allah. ) means, "So that they may intercede for us and bring us closer to Him.'' During Jahiliyyah, they used to recite the following for their Talbiyah when they performed Hajj; "At Your service, You have no partner except the partner You have; he and all that he owns belong to You.'' This pretentious argument which the idolators of all times, ancient and modern, used as evidence is what the Messengers, may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon them all, came to refute and forbid, and to call people to worship Allah Alone with no partner or associate. This is something that the idolators themselves invented; Allah did not give them permission for it, nor does He approve of it; indeed, He hates it and forbids it.
(And verily, We have sent among every Ummah a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allah, and avoid Taghut.'') (16:36)
(And We did not send any Messenger before you but We revealed to him (saying): "None has the right to be worshipped but I (Allah), so worship Me.'') (21:25) And Allah tells us that the angels in the heavens, those who are close to Him and others, are all servants who submit humbly to Allah. They do not intercede with Him except by His leave for the one with whom He is pleased. They are not like the princes and ministers of their (the idolators') kings who intercede with them without their permission for both those whom the kings like and those whom they hate.
(So put not forward similitudes for Allah) (16:74). Exalted be Allah far above that.
(Verily, Allah will judge between them) means, on the Day of Resurrection,
(concerning that wherein they differ.) means, He will judge between His creation on the Day of Resurrection and will reward or punish each person according to his deeds.
(And (remember) the Day when He will gather them all together, then He will say to the angels: "Was it you that these people used to worship'' They (the angels) will say: "Glorified be You! You are our Wali (Lord) instead of them. Nay, but they used to worship the Jinn; most of them were believers in them.'') (34:40-41)
(Truly, Allah guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever.) means, He will not show true guidance to one who deliberately tells lies about Allah and whose heart rejects the signs and proof of Allah. Then Allah states that He does not have any offspring, as the ignorant idolators claim the angels to be, and as the stubborn Jews and Christians claim `Uzayr and `Isa to be. Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, says:
(Had Allah willed to take a son (or offspring), He could have chosen whom He willed out of those whom He created.) meaning, the matter would not have been as they claim. This is a conditional sentence which does not imply that this happened or that it is permitted; indeed, it is impossible. The aim is only to point out the ignorance of their claims. It is like the Ayat:
(Had We intended to take a pastime, We could surely have taken it from Us, if We were going to do (that).) (21:17)
(Say: "If the Most Gracious had a son, then I am the first of worshippers.'') (43:81) All of these Ayat are conditional, and it is permissible to form a conditional sentence referring to something that is impossible if it serves the purposes of the speaker.
(But glory be to Him! He is Allah, the One, the Irresistible.) means, exalted and sanctified be He above the idea that He could have any offspring, for He is the One, the Only, the Unique, the Self-Sufficient Master to Whom everything is enslaved and is in need of. He is the One Who is independent of all else, Who has subjugated all things and they submit humbly to Him. Blessed and exalted be He far above what the wrongdoers and deniers say.
(5. He has created the heavens and the earth with truth. He makes the night to go in the day and makes the day to go in the night. And He has subjected the sun and the moon. Each running for an appointed term. Verily, He is the Almighty, the Oft-Forgiving.) (6. He created you (all) from a single person; then made from him his wife. And He has sent down for you of An`am eight pairs. He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation in three veils of darkness. Such is Allah your Lord. His is the kingdom. La ilaha illa Huwa. How then are you turned away)

Two pillars of La Ilaha illAllah
Two pillars of La Ilaha illAllah
Two parts of 'La ilaha illallah'. The main demand of La ilaha illallah is to reject Taghut. One must first deny or reject Taghut and then believe in Allah. Otherwise your Tauhid will not be pure. The simple meaning of (La ilaha illallah) is - La ilaha: there is no god, IllAllah: besides Allah. La-ilaha illallah is the complete, greatest and most perfect and pure kalema..
