Staying hydrated is crucial for senior care in DFW, Texas. As we age, our bodies require more attention to ensure optimal health and adequate hydration plays a vital role in maintaining overall well-being. Seniors often overlook their fluid intake, which can lead to various health issues such as urinary tract infections and confusion. Seniors are at a higher risk of malnutrition and dehydration, especially as their body goes through changes. Vitamins and supplements can boost and support their health, but some seniors refrain from taking oral medications as they may affect their sense of taste. Fortunately, IV infusion therapy offers a convenient alternative!

I was thinking about slimes from the fantasy RPG's and was thinking that anything liquidy that moves around will inevitably pick up lots of dirt and detritus. And then I thought about it some more and realized that anything with a lot of dirt and detritus that is constantly doused in water will probably start to grow stuff eventually so here's my concept for a fantasy slime creature: the Forest Slime
Tumblr media
The Forest Slime lives in forests near still bodies of water like ponds or swamps. As it traverses the forest, it picks up a lot of dirt and leaf litter and dead sticks and stuff. It all settles towards the bottom of the slime, and the leaves start to rot. All the rotten leaves and dirt turn into very rich soil. When the slime travels into the water source to rehydrate itself, it picks up the seeds of aquatic plants, and those plants take root in that soil.
The slime feeds off of the unicellular algae that try to grow in it (eating at such a rate that the slime appears clear) as well as the slow release of nutrients as the leaves decompose. The lily pads shade the slime and help prevent dehydration.

I was going to say that Lilia was pleasantly wrong and that Malleus is nowhere near as bad as Mallenoa sounds, that he is actually pretty level-headed and calm despite having his moments and is considerably less temperamental and more mature than his mother but you know what. I forgot we are currently in this entire situation because of his selfish desire for everything to remain unchanging and poor emotional management to the point he overblotted and put not only Lilia but the entire NRC under a sleeping spell because of his unwiligness to engage with upsetting emotions and letting go of people he loves.

'i'm so bad about staying hydrated if i don't have water in front of me i won't drink until i'm thirsty' unless you have a medical condition that suppresses your thirst response that is literally what you are supposed to do.

I've tried to describe it to other people as being like those times when you're so hungry that the thought of any food makes you nauseated, or so tired that you can't fall asleep. This is how I learned that most normal people don't experience those states, either.
yall with adhd or autism or such ever just get…. bored. like so Painfully bored. like its not “oh hehe i was so bored and i made this” to flex or “oh im so bored bc i have nothing to do” but like a “i am physically incapable of ending this horrible understimulation with any activity i might attempt” and its genuinely fucking painful

Comprehensive Guide to Heat Stroke Prevention:
Stay Safe in Hot Weather In today’s fast-paced world, it’s crucial to prioritize our health, especially during extreme weather conditions. Heat stroke is a serious condition that can have severe consequences if not prevented and managed effectively. In this guide, we will delve into the causes, symptoms, and most importantly, the prevention of heat stroke to ensure you stay safe and healthy, even in the hottest of weather.
Tumblr media
Understanding Heat Stroke:
Heat stroke occurs when the body overheats due to prolonged exposure to high temperatures or physical exertion in hot weather. It is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention. The body’s temperature regulation system becomes overwhelmed, leading to a rapid increase in body temperature, which can cause damage to the brain and other vital organs. Causes of Heat Stroke:
Heat stroke can be caused by various factors, including: — High temperatures and humidity levels — Strenuous physical activity in hot weather — Dehydration — Wearing excessive clothing that hinders sweat evaporation — Certain medications that affect the body’s ability to regulate temperature
Symptoms of Heat Stroke:
Recognizing the symptoms of heat stroke is crucial for prompt intervention. Common symptoms include: — High body temperature (above 103°F) — Rapid heartbeat — Flushed skin — Headache — Dizziness — Nausea and vomiting — Confusion or disorientation — Unconsciousness
Prevention Tips for Heat Stroke:
Preventing heat stroke is key to staying safe and healthy during hot weather. Here are some effective tips to help you avoid heat-related illnesses:
Stay Hydrated:
Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially when exposed to high temperatures or engaging in physical activities. Dehydration can increase the risk of heat stroke, so it’s essential to stay well-hydrated.
Dress Appropriately:
Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing in light colors to help your body stay cool. Avoid dark colors that absorb heat and opt for breathable fabrics that allow sweat evaporation.
Avoid Peak Sun Hours:
Try to limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you must be outside, seek shade and take frequent breaks to cool down.
Use Sun Protection:
Apply sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Wear a hat and sunglasses to shield your face and eyes from direct sunlight. Cool Your Environment
Stay in air-conditioned spaces or use fans to circulate air and lower the temperature indoors. If you don’t have access to air conditioning, consider visiting public places like malls or libraries to stay cool. Know Your Limits
Listen to your body and avoid overexertion in hot weather. Pace yourself during physical activities and take breaks as needed to prevent overheating.
Conclusion: Heat stroke is a serious condition that can be prevented with proper precautions and awareness. By following the tips outlined in this guide, you can protect yourself and your loved ones from the dangers of extreme heat. Stay informed, stay hydrated, and stay safe during hot weather to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle.

I wish I had status effect indicators sometimes. Like if I'm feeling like crap or I have a headache, I wish I could just open a little console and read it and it would say "hydration low: 20%" or something in red and I'd be like "cool!" and drink some water.
Like. There's no big overarching mystery here. I know all the causes/stressors that make me feel like this in the broad, general sense. But that's no good to me when I'm trying to address this headache specifically.

would also add that elderly people and a lot of disabled people are much more susceptible to heat stroke & its effects and are less able to care for themselves so please check up on your neighbors and other elderly/disabled people you might know! if you can – offering to run errands, pick up groceries, or do lawncare can be a big help in keeping people safe.
For all of the northerners that stood up for Texas during our freeze and said, "Don't make fun of them, they've never dealt with this before. Their infrastructure isn't made for snow and freezing."
This one is for you.
Where I live 108°F with 80% humidity with no wind is normal.
Pacific North West is dealing historic best waves 35-40°C or 95-105°F.
First of all. Don't make fun of them for bitching about the heat. Just like Texas isn't built for a freeze and our pipes burst, Pacific North West isn't built for heat and a lot of their homes don't have AC.
If you live somewhere with a high humidity like 80+ HUMIDITY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. The "humidity makes it feel cooler" is a lie once it gets beyond a point.
If you live somewhere with a lower humidity, misters are nice to cool off outside.
Once you get over 90°F (32°C) a fan will not help you. It's just pushing around hot air. (I mean if you can't afford a small AC unit because they're expensive as hell, by all means a fan is better than nothing).
If you have pets, those portable AC units aren't safe. If your pets destroy the outtake thing, it'll leak CO2. Window units are safer.
Window AC units will let mosquitoes or other small bugs in. Sucks, but that's life.
Now is not the time to me modest. If you have to cover for religious reasons, by all means. If you don't, I've seen people wear short shorts and a swim top. It's not trashy if it keeps you from getting heat stroke.
If you do have to cover up for religious reasons, look for elephant pants or something similar. They're made with a breathable material.
Shade is better than no shade, but that shit it just diet sun after some point. Don't think shade will save you from heat stroke.
I know the "drink your water" is a fun meme now, but if you're sweating excessively you need electrolytes. Drink Gatorade, Powerade, or Pedialite PLEASE. I don't care if you're fucking sitting in one spot all day. That shit WILL save you from heat stroke.
Most importantly. RESEARCH THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAT STROKE AND HEAT EXHAUSTION PLEASE!
If you're diabetic and can't drink Gatorade, mix water, fruit juice, and either lite salt or pink salt
If you can afford it, cover windows with thick curtains to insulate the house
If you have tile floors, lay on them with skin to tile contact. If you don't, laying your head on cool counters works too.
If the temperature where you're at is hotter than your body temperature, don't wear heat wicking clothing. Moisture wicking is safe though.
Check your medication labels. Many make you more susceptible to sun and heat
-Room temperature water will get into your body faster. This is something I learned doing marching band in high summer in Georgia, and it saved all of our asses. Sip it, don't gulp it, especially if you're getting into the red; same goes for whatever fluid you're drinking. And just in general drink during the day.
-If you are moving from an air conditioned space to an un-air conditioned space, if at all possible try to make the shift gradual. When my dad and I were working outside and in un-ac houses a few years ago, he'd turn the air down to low in the truck about ten-fifteen minutes before we got where we were going. This way your body doesn't go from low low temps to high temps. S'bad for you.
-If you can, keep your lights off during the day. Light bulbs may not generate a lot of heat, but the difference is noticeable when it gets hot enough. I literally only turn my bedroom light on in the evening when it gets too dark.
Don't be afraid to just like... pour water on yourself if you need to. The evaporation will cool you off.
Put your hand to the cement for 15 seconds. If you can't handle the heat, it'll burn your dog's paws. Don't let them walk on it.
Dogs with flat faces are more prone to heat stroke. Don't leave them out unsupervised.
Frozen fruit is delicious in water.
Wet/Cold hat/handkerchief on your head/neck will help you stay cool.
Pickle juice is great for electrolytes! You can even make pickle juice Popsicles!
Heat exhaustion is more, "drink water and get you cooled off." Heat stroke is more "Oh my god call 911."

[Image description: an infographic showing the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The graphic is labeled "Heat Dangers: First Warning." Signs of heat exhaustion: faint or dizzy, excessive sweating, cool, pale, clammy skin, rapid, weak pulse, muscle cramps. If you think you or someone else may be experiencing heat exhaustion, get to a cool, air-conditioned place, drink water if conscious, and take a cool shower or use cold compress. Signs of heat stroke: throbbing headache, no sweating, red, hot, dry skin, rapid, strong pulse, may lose consciousness. If you think you or someone else may be experiencing heat stroke, call 911. End description]
Be safe.
