Me when someone’s post causes me to write an entire essay but I can’t even write a single fanfiction that’s been in the words for months

Wait this is actually so smart and I now love to think about this

I can definitely see Avari having a very hard accent, like one that sounds harsh, rigid, and even hard to understand at times. Something could sound mean when spoken in it when it’s not

Qeslum I can see the accent being almost cold. So like more crisp, possibly lower in pitch, restrained volume, and it possibly sounds distant and very formal

Luxure definitely has a more fancy sounding accent. Something that would be satisfying to listen to even if you don’t understand a word being said. It would then funnily enough be the most difficult to learn

Invidia would likely have an accent that’s purposely made to sound almost submissive. Something that sounds completely harmless. It would definitely sound breathy almost and would likely have rounder vowels

Akedia’s accent would be similar to invidia’s but the difference between it is that Akedia’s accent would be something easily understood even if you are mumbling something from sleep. It would likely be a soft-spoken language, one that was made so it would be difficult to speak when yelling but certain words such as “help” “traitor” and “danger” would be most easily understood within the language. The language would also use minimal mouth movement with words that blend together

Ira’s accent would definitely be harsh, similar to a Avari’s. It’d be a lot more rough-sounding though. Honestly I can see this one having a few different ways of speaking. For commoners they would speak a lot more rougher and so it would sound scarier to outsiders. Nobles would have a more refined way of speaking, though it would still be very intimidating. I can see people who are entertainers having a mix between a rougher accent and a noble accent yet they find a way to make their voices sound softer to please nobles. Lance likely has a mix of all three accents, where some words are rougher then others and sometimes you can even hear a much softer almost gentle tone when he speaks to certain people. At home Lance would have to consciously attempt to speak like a noble

Voleri I can see having a more tame accent. Something very easy to learn but the accent is what makes it difficult to understand at times. I can see it being very diction based, so letters like D, C, K, V, Z, T, and G (keep in mind I’m guessing here) would be pronounced clearly. A lot of R rolling too

Ok now let’s get into the more interesting ones 😄

Vanum language I can see being very unique compared to other languages. It’d also be very difficult to learn and it’d be entirely based on memorization if you wanted to learn it. Due to the complexity though, it makes a beautiful language where there are multiple meanings to different words as well as a rich vocabulary. The accent would represent this exactly. It’d sound authoritative yet melodic, and it’d be instantly recognizable to anyone who hears it even if they’ve never heard the language being spoken

Tristatis’s language would be very melodic. Something very easy to sing in and it’d sound like you were singing everytime you spoken. That being said, the accent makes it sound almost like you’re singing. It’d be smooth and clearly understood. It’d also have words similar to what the people of Vanum use. This would mean that the people of Tristatis have an easier time learning the language of Vanum then any other country. I wouldn’t be surprised if both kingdoms use to learn the languages of each other in schools ever since they were young just to make the process of learning easier

Now let’s talk about Vane.

I can see Vane having a unique accent. Something that derives from every kingdom yet you can’t tell what accent is being used when she is talking. The accent is still unique enough though that it sounds like it’s own accent entirely, something you can never quite pinpoint and just as you think you figured out where it came from she says something in a way to make that theory come crashing down on you as you realize just how wrong you were. This accent lets Vane change between languages quickly, and thus she can speak to anyone from any kingdom. When Vane is with Vanum she speaks in a Vanum accent, when she is with Tristatis she speaks in a Tristatis accent, when she is with both she finds a way to blend the two accents together

This accent goes to MC once she goes to Saligia. Of course she does not notice this, but other people do. It gives that air of mysteriousness where no one can quite figure out where she is from

CoD Accents

I like the idea of each kingdom having its own language, but everyone speaking a common language. Here's what I think about their accents when they speak the common language:

Lou - Common language is the official language of Colde, so he has no accent.

Toa - No accent at all. He spent years learning how to pronounce everything 100% correctly, and he's going to speak the language the right way.

Guy - Also no accent. Avari couldn't let Qelsum best him in language, so they also drilled proper pronunciation into him. He hardly speaks, though, so not a whole bunch of people would even notice.

Jasper - Same as guy.

Roy - In order to maintain his perfect prince appearance, he masted common language also. However, you can hear his Invidian accent when he gets excited about something. (Sherry has a bit more of an accent than Roy, but not by much.)

Grayson - A bit of an accent, but it's slightly different from Roy's. He picked up on other dialects from the soldiers he served with. His common language sounds closer to Joel's than Roy's or Sherry's.

Tino - Common language was taught as part of his valet schooling. He has almost no accent except when he gets flustered (which admittedly happens a lot). When in an excitable state, it's hard to understand him. The other valets have to try to calm him to figure out what's wrong. Jay's the only one that can understand him word for word in when Tino gets like that.

Knight - A little bit of an accent. He's been trying to get rid of it, but it's a work in progress. Knight's accent would be different from Toa's (if he had one). He grew up in the streets, so his dialect would be different than a noble in the capital; think the Queen's English vs Cockney.

Rio/Thoma - A little bit of an accent. Proper pronunciation was never really pushed in Voleri, but Rio and Thoma try hard to speak common language correctly so everyone can understand them.

Lance - Noticable Iraian accent. Why bother wasting a ton of time perfecting something when it's good enough? People can understand him, and that's fine. He doesn't speak a whole bunch anyway.

Phinny/Nix - Noticeable accents, but no one can place it; their accents come from remembering the language spoken in Vanum. Could they lean to speak without the accent? Sure, but their mother tongue was completely lost when Qelsum invaded, and they are the only two fluent speakers left.

Lynt - Noticeable Akedian accent because he can't be bothered to speak common language correctly. He has trouble with some of the sounds of common language, but can get it right if he focuses really hard.

Dia/Jay - Jay has more of an accent than Dia because he learned common language later in life. It's slightly different from Lynt's accent. The Tristas language was lost a long time ago, but it mixed with Akedian to make for a really distinct regional dialect.

Fenn - Has a very thick Luxurian accent. It's one of very few things that make him feel tied to his homeland after being away for so long. Like French to English, he doesn't pronounce h's, so words like "highness" sounds like "anus" and "happiness" sounds like "a penis." It's fun for him to mess with people through his accent, and hear Toa over pronouncing h's to try to correct Fenn is honestly one of his favorite things.

Violet - Has a heavy accent like Fenn because she likes the way it sounds.

*Whenever MC learns more of the common language, she'll take on the accent or non-accent of her teacher. Robin will adapt his accent from MC.
