Folding Ideas: My Personal Favorites
Sometime last year I saw The Future is a Dead Mall for the first time, and as my first video from Dan Olson I can't say I was particularly hooked. Part of that was because the next few videos recommended to me were Line Goes Up, and Jamie Oliver's War on Chicken Nuggets which are really long and I don't really care about respectively. However, having gotten really into his videos recently I kind of just wanted to post something about it, so here's my list of my favorite 8 videos of his.
I Don't Know James Rolfe
It's just, so damn good. The framing of a retrospective on Dan life and career as a pseudo-takedown video on someone he claims to share some kinship with combined with a performed midlife crisis. Just absolutely brilliant. As far as particular draws for this video: the shot were Dan gets really angry at the camera while talking about how hard it is, while sitting underneath a projection of James is easily my favorite thing Dan has ever made.
2) This is Financial Advice
A thorough autopsy of the Gamestop squeeze and the followers of the meme stock movement with a few of my favorite gags of Dan's, also my favorite character of his (I'm new here). While a far more thorough video than Jauwn's video on Kais Maalej when it comes to the big picture both are very solid videos in their own right.
3) In Search of a Flat Earth
To be completely honest this is not a great Flat Earth video. It's good and it has quite a few incredible parts but I don't think it's as good as Hbomberguy's or Philosophy Tube's and especially not Professor Dave's. However, this is the single best video I've seen on Qanon. Also the descriptor Esoteric Fictionalism is really good
4)The Future is a Dead Mall
Of his 2 videos on defi I think this is the stronger of Dan's, and I think that's for a few reasons. Namely because he's able to attack the idea of the Metaverse more directly than he's able to attack anything during Line Goes Up, but maybe I just don't remember it as well.
5) Line Goes Up
NFT's are really fascinating and Dan does a really good job of covering them, it's just there's a few other youtubers who also make great videos on NFT's and crypto as their main focus, namely Jauwn and Coffeezilla.
6)The Art of Editing and Suicide Squad
A really good video on a pretty bad movie. It covers a lot of the problems in the movie and how despite several of them being caused by studio overreach it just wasn't going to be a particularly good movie. Also El Diablo is far and away the best character in the movie .
7)The Darkmoon Fiasco
Short sweet to the point.
8)Contrepreneurs: The Mikkelsen Twins
Dan writes a book about hypnosis. also he makes a whole video off of ads that just kind of annoyed him, he does the same thing for the Idris Elba Gold Doc which is also a great video but I think this one is the better of the 2.

Meditation on Meta-Worlds
Once, worlds like Second Life and the more recent Decentraland and the Metaverse held a good deal of interest for modern magical folks regardless of what your worldview happened to be. Suppositions on the kinds of effects we could get through the use of digital sigils and bindrunes, casting ‘there’ to affecting ‘here’, were among a variety of spellcasting and ritual ideas. Folks were…

Decentraland users understand this need for legitimacy intuitively, and so it becomes what they crave above all else. That is why they value brand activations so highly, no matter the circumstances. Being able to put “Vodafone” on their world map, or “Pedigree” in their events tab, spins the narrative that real companies are here in Decentraland.
Even embarrassing brand activations are defended, because “they’re just dipping their toes in, this is just the beginning.” Decentraland users seek to encourage brand activations and events through pathetic pandering. They’ll smile through gritted teeth as they insist that the Hershey’s Experience really is interesting and successful. By performatively engaging with events and brand activations, users seek to create the illusion that these events are successful in the hopes of drawing in the next sucker.

I feel like the cryptocurrency “experts” still need to realize a lot of regular people think about money as parts of what they will buy with it. We have accidentally reinvented money in games I worked on only because we needed a thing that was worth some fraction of an item.
Crypto “experts” and enthusiasts still seem to miss that the average person doesn't think, “I like the dollar because it is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government.” I think the average person likes that the dollar is reliably and consistently worth ≈1/10 of a pizza.
“All currency is made up these days.” Sure, but this one lets me consistently turn ≈2 hours of work into a copy of a new video game.

I Memecoin - cryptovalute particolari

This is a fun story and all, the metaverse is a complete joke, but the 38 active users is not exactly an accurate way of putting it. Actually, it's completely wrong.
I looked at the article linked to in that tweet. That article got the 38 daily active users number from an article by Business Insider. And Business Insider is talking about a specific metaverse world called Decentraland, not Horizon Worlds. It seems to be basically the equivalent of an individual Minecraft server: just a world you can walk around in, not a whole platform.
But still, Business Insider is not the original source. Business Insider got the number from CoinDesk:
Coin Desk seems to be reporting directly based on the report by DappRadar, which did the data gathering. And if you read CoinDesk's article, when they say 38 daily active users they mean 38 people who made in-game purchases in Decentraland in a specific 24 hour window - not an average, just the amount of people who bought something during one day.
If you want to see the numbers reported by Decentraland directly, there's a dashboard that shows those. Of course it could be inaccurate, but so could DappRadar's data, so here it is:
Anyway, all this is just to say, don't believe everything you read on the internet, even if it is really funny. The way information travels these days is a dumb game of broken telephone where nobody actually reads the original source, and small mistakes get amplified into massive misunderstandings.

Fashion Consumption on Games and Metaverse
Hey!
I am doing a study about fashion consumption on metaverse and games for my Master Thesis.
Basically, i need people who have experience in games and metaverse that ususally buy clothes for their avatars to answer to my anonymous survey.
The survey is completely safe and anonymous and no personal data is required. All i need is you to answer to all the questions as if you buy prestigious clothes for your avatars (don´t forget to answer "Yes" to "Do you usually buy prestigious/luxury products" and "have you ever used metaverse..", cause if you choose "No" the survey ends and it will not help me.
Thanks to all of you who are helping me and answering it!

$DELL #SP500 #NASDAQ #SPX $MANA-USD
Introduction On Friday, May 31, 2024, the financial market experienced a significant decline, following a major pullback on Thursday. The industry took a hit, resulting in losses of 5.24%. Stocks across various sectors faced selling pressures, with some sectors witnessing declines of 2.73% and 2.67%. However, it's not all doom and gloom as there are certain sectors that managed to show strength amidst the volatility. Additionally, the cryptocurrency market had mixed results, while the appreciation of the U.S. Dollar against the Euro brought both opportunities and risks to multinational companies. Body The stock market's recent performance has been set back by a considerable downturn on Friday, reflecting investors' concerns and uncertainty surrounding the industry. With losses of 5.24%, it is clear that caution prevails in the market. The downward trend was also evident in specific companies such as Dell Technologies Inc, which saw a decline of 21.87%, and HP Inc, whose stock dropped by 8.19%. HP Inc. primarily engages in the production and distribution of personal computers, printers, and related services. The decline in these technology stocks suggests a potential slowdown or challenges in the industry. https://csimarket.com/news/news_markets.php?date=2024-05-31T16532&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr
