This bit from Deadly Fortune also feeds into a HC of mine- that Dante is naturally resistant to flame (and high levels of heat), and that's part of what helped him survive the manor fire.
Yeah when you go there during DMC5 you see the wardrobe itself is mostly intact so really he was just fine because of that, but I think it would be fun if Dante's demonic nature shielded him too.
Now there IS a mech in-game where Dante takes burn DOT so that means he's not 100% resistant to fire, but that's where the Deadly Fortune bit comes in- I'd HC that the fire that gives him burns in-game is demonic fire, and thus per Deadly Fortune hotter than regular fire, which exceeds his natural tolerance and thus burns him.
In that HC-verse the manor fire would've then been the result of either a lesser demon whose flames didn't burn as hot as Berial's, less powerful because the fire caught and spread to the rest of the house so it wasn't as intense as the first blast, or wasn't a demonic fire at all and was instead the result of a candle getting knocked over in the chaos and eventually burning the whole place down. But Dante wouldn't know that, so I just imagine him trapped in that wardrobe, terrified as it gets hotter and hotter, eventually coming out when the demons are gone but the flames are not and thinking the fire might be the death of him- except it isn't. It singes his clothes, probably, but his skin is fine. And wouldn't that be a big kick in the gut when he sees Eva is not.

"...his father was a hero, his mother a good woman who his father probably died to protect and he was the product of their love..."
💙❤😿
This gets me in the feels. Dante isn't stuck in the past. He values it but he doesn't actively pursue it. He knows his worth, he knows and loves his beloved parents and he will cherish their memory.
Dante loves Sparda and Eva.

Dynamosaurus Imperius Regina (Dynamic-Lizard Imperial Queen) or "Dyna" for short, The Sin of Envy
Much of Dyna's history is lost even to herself, she knows that she was created by somebody, but she doesn't know when, where, or how she got to where it is now, it has been a confusing and stressful haze of a journey for her growing up where she was a not fully conscious frankenstein of prehistoric pokemon wandering around with Wild Magic so at any time whenever she tries to cast a spell reality can randomly just become warped around her, and for a long time she didn't realize what she was doing or how anything was meant to work. There are a few theories as to why Dyna's powers are like this but none of them have been given much confirmation: Perhaps the energy source used to bring her to life was unstable, perhaps there was dormant wild magic in one or both of the fossils used to make her, or maybe it has something to do with a flawed connection between her two mismatched spines? Nothing is certain and that seems to be a running theme with Dyna. As far as Dyna can tell, she is the only known Dracozolt in this world, the first and last of her kind ever created. She is holding out hope that there may be others like her somewhere in the world, not that she would wish her fate on somebody else, but there is also something existentially lonely about being the only one of her kind.
Despite being one of the largest members of the Seven Deadly Sins, she is also the youngest member of the team at 14 years old, and given The Sin of Envy. She doesn't wield a weapon focusing mostly on being a spellcaster, but she also dabbles in potion crafts seeing it as something consistent that she has control over, if she makes a potion of Healing she can expect it to heal instead of having a random effect.

I would like to see Capcom delve more into these kinds of aspects of world building: it would be really interesting to know how demons outside the underworld feel, both physically and mentally. It would give more depth and facets to the characters, because one of my headcanon about Sparda is that, even if he was 1000% sure about his decision and love for humans and his family, he still felt some internal turmoil. Because, even though he chose to be on humanity side, his nature was still one of a full blooded demon. And damn, it would give Trish a hella (pun intended) more personality: she would be her own character, not just some copy of the protagonists’ mother; she would have her own struggles, her own problems, her own internal debates.

A range of chairs based on the Seven Deadly Sins, designed by Thomas von Staffeldt and based on Arne Jacobsen’s famous chair model 3107.
(They’re a one-off art piece, not designed for actually sitting on. Sorry, folks.)

I remember that with Belamy, that’s part of why I said it was a bit ironic, haha. Also ironic that Izanam was a poison user and a bastard and Hazard very intentionally does not ever want to be like Goh Tat and hates using his venom.
Which is good because he has it in his fangs, his claws, his blood, he can breathe it as vapor and he can spit it (though he considers that gross) and he has both paralytic and pain-causing venoms, not to mention all the other side effects from them.

Reading through Deadly Fortune, I think it's sweet how Dante inspired so much confidence in Nero during their first meeting, even if it was only in the way of "well I fought against a stronger guy, so these other guys are chumps!" Didn't even have to try and he was already helping his nephew out just by fighting him.

(From the Nero vs. Berial fight. Alt text under the cut.)
[id: a screenshot of the English Translation of the Deadly Fortune novel. The text reads as follows:
The demon’s voice rumbled in his chest, and he waved his sword high over his head:
“Silence!” He shouted as his sword descended on me. If I hadn’t met the man in red, I might’ve been a little scared. Could I really win against an enemy so massive? Against a sword that big?
But I’d already faced off against that man. After only a few rounds fighting him, I knew a demon like this one wouldn’t pose a real threat. His sword work wasn’t even half as fast or deadly as that man’s.]

I love that Nero doesn't even follow the Order of Sword beliefs and yet he respects Sparda. Even his statue.

everyone mentions/memes dante shooting sanctus at the start of the game but nobody mentions vergil appearing to sanctus after killing his predecessor.
i understand that the order of the sword's knowledge of demons is incomplete (see: the gallery for nightmare) and its up in the air whether sanctus knows sparda has TWO children but.
imagine being warned by essentially two iterations of jesus christ that your plan will bite you in the ass

Hey real fast does anyone have a good spot for me to read the Devil May Cry 4’s Light Novel Deadly Fortune?
There is something I am working on, a thesis I am building. And I need to double check as much Kyrie dialogue/interactions as possible. I need it for research.

DMC Questions Anon here!
Before you read this next question:
I was informed that it would be a good idea for my questions to be answered with a specific tag so if people wish to block it they could. Please tag your answers to any question I send you with "dmc questions anon" and I think that should work.
If you wish to be taken off the list, ask. If somebody wishes to be placed on the list, ask. If your anon asks are off and you wish to participate, just make a post answering the question you see going around.
Remember you do not have to answer every question, so please don't feel pressured to do so.
Please also remember to take as long as you need! Do not rush yourself, this is supposed to be a fun activity and I don't want anyone to feel stressed out by trying to rush to answer questions.
Now onto the actual question:
How would you rank the 5 games in the Devil May Cry series? (By story)
Separately, if you want, how would you rank extended material? (The DMC1 Novel, The DMC3 Mangas, The Anime, The DMC2 Novel, Deadly Fortune, Before the Nightmare, and Visions of V, all of which can be found (along with other stuff) here: https://originaldmc.github.io/DivinityStatue/Downloads.html)
If you wish, how would you rank all of it together in one big list?
Hmm, for story I'd have to rank it like: 5, 3, 4, 1, 2. I suppose I could elaborate, with prompting.
I haven't read all the novels yet, but I'd have to rank the extended material like:
Anime
Visions of V
Deadly Fortune
DMC3 Manga
DMC1 Novel
I don't feel qualified to rank everything in one big list lol.
Thanks for the question, anon!
