i always expect my satosugu fics to do better than they do?? lol. like come on y'all i thought you were horny for this one.

it's because they're always sad it's because people want them to be happy and i will not let them.

and i guess i like "get" it now but i really was flabbergasted when i first posted all in, palms out and it got the response it got. like, now i understand that's what The People are really horny for (of all the fics i posted last year my top 5 are all gojo & megumi world's okayest dad and feral kitten son content) but at the time i was truly not expecting it to do as well as it did.

i'm honestly fully gobsmacked that my least kudos'd fic is a trc fic????? lmao i figured it'd be an r&j fic or something with no fandom like zone blanche, but trc was like. i genuinely don't think i ever got more compliments on my writing than i did when i was writing trc fic, straight up.

anyway.

so this is a little drabble i wrote for a prompt meme; it's only 116 words. in that small space, though, i think i do a pretty good job of capturing a fun facet of ronan and gansey's friendship. it also contains the phrase "gasoline sliding through his muscles" which is, i'm sorry, fucking french kiss superb. everyone yassed.

and i have personally always enjoyed the figurative image of words or breath getting ripped out the passenger-side window of a fast-accelerating car.

“Huh,” Dazai’s fingertip pressed the kitten’s nose, causing their canines to sink into his skin. You grimaced at Dazai’s lack of reaction. “He thinks he’s feisty. Kind of like a certain red head I knew.”

“You’re seriously going to let him bite you like that?” You laugh, crouching down with the help of the grave stone beside you. “I thought you didn’t like pain?” The kitten’s mew relaxed your face and you heard a chuckle in response. He’s smiling?

“Oh, I absolutely hate it.” Dazai said. His fingers combing through their patched fur. “But come on, for this little guy? How could I resist?“ He closed his eyes with a smile, and you light-heartedly smiled back.

“How about we keep him then? You know, in honor of his memory. He always said to protect the less fortune, right?” You asked. You watched the kitten pouncing to catch Dazai’s index in their paws. “How about you name him?”

With a long silence, Dazai went into deep thought. Then he spoke. “Curry.”

i’m a busy gal, i’m in the midst of finishing my uni applications, and writing is something that (as much as i wish i could consume my life with) something that i quite frankly don’t always have time to do. this is merely just a hobby of mine, and i already don’t post often (because of how busy i am). so please, i’d just like for you to bear with me in that aspect pls and thanks lol.

𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐃𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐢 𝐱 𝐘𝐨𝐮 (𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫) 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭: 𝟓𝟗𝟕

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞: 𝟐 𝐦𝐢𝐧. 𝟓𝟒 𝐬𝐞𝐜.

𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: In the middle of the night, you receive a phone call from the police informing you an unknown person used their one phone call on you. But upon arrival, you realize they aren’t so unknown after all. It is your previous partner — Osamu Dazai.

You got the call in the middle of the night, 2:14am. You were shaken awake by your overly loud ringtone and blindly reached for your phone through sleep deprived vision. Your screen read; unknown number, yet something told you to answer it.

It was Yokohama Police Department.

They assumably had a detained person you knew; who used their only phone call to call you. You asked the receptionist who it was but with your luck they didn’t know; and due to the lack of identification on them you would have to identify them; so you agreed.

“You look awfully good for a home.” “Excuse me?”

“Don’t mind him,” The officer brushed off Dazai’s words and used their key to unlock the cell door. The creaking like a dinner fork scrapping across a plate causing you to grimace. “He’s been sayin’ things like that since we brought him in. Think he bumped his head or somethin’.”

“Yeah,” Another police officer chimed in; their legs crossed atop their desk. “He doesn’t even remember his own name, poor guy. You should take him to a hospital.”

‘Isn’t that your job?’ Is what you wanted to say; but you only nodded with an socially awkward smile, “I’ll keep that in mind.”

“Oh right; before you take him with you though, you need to pay his bail. It’s protocol.” Bail? “No one mentioned bail on the phone. Not even when I got here. What did he even do? He’s harmless.” Okay, maybe you lied about that one. “Besides, I didn’t even bring my wallet. It’s at home.”

When you told the gentleman those words, they both straightened their backs and you to stumbled back; the officer in the chair placing their feet down. “So what we’re hearing is you don’t have your drivers license on you. Are you aware it’s a crime to drive without the presence of your license in your vehicle?”

“Okay, maybe it is. But the law also allows me to provide my license to any police station within seven days if I have no means to provide it. Which I will do, tomorrow, when I pay the bail.” You thought they would both retaliate; and you weren’t sure it was the sleep deprivation that saved you or sheer luck but the police officer sighed. “Fine. Have a good day.”

“I would have appreciated a little help back there.” You gripped at Dazai when he climbed into your car but he remained silent. Ever since coming out of his cell, he hadn’t made a sound. But you had managed to get his belongings from the receptionist. Where you learned there was no bail. Cops.

“Are you going to say something?” You asked. With his phone still turned on from the call you offered it to him. “Do you remember where you live at least? Where your house is?”

“We are home.” His words confused you. You adjusted in your seat to face him. “Dazai, what are you talking about, we are home? First, we don’t live together, remember? Breaking up kind of results in that.” But you still care about him. “But if you look on your phone and find your address, I’ll take you home.”

“But I don’t understand.” “Dazai, how complicated is it, we broke up. The end—”

“Then why are you, home?”

“Dazai, what are you talking about?” You shook your head in confusion yet you understood when he opened his flip phone; opened his contacts and showed you his contacts. Your contact.

You weren’t under your name, or even Ex. You were under Home.

Oh.

𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Dazai wishes he had more, with you.

“I could stare at you forever.” Dazai’s fingers caressed your cheek. Your skin like porcelain; soft, pale and delicate. But no blush. “I know you’ll agree with me again one day, Belladonna. Don’t listen to them.”

He never asked why you never accepted his compliments. But you used to blush. Your hair covering your face until he moved the locks to see the pink dust. “See I’m right, you can’t even deny it, Belladonna. You’re beautiful.”

“Mr.Dazai.” The caregiver placed her hand on his shoulder. She must have noticed him flitch because she wore a soft expression. “Mr.Dazai. I’m sorry.” She said. This is the worst part of the routine. “It’s time to go.”

“I know I—” Her thumb swiped across his shoulder and she finished his sentence. “—need more time.”

He nodded and her touch departed. The clicking of her high heels following her. His hand went back to yours. Your silver engagement band under his. “I just need more time.”

The Dark Age

𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐃𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐢 𝐱 𝐘𝐨𝐮 (𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫) 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭: 𝟑𝟑𝟖

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞: 𝟏 𝐦𝐢𝐧 𝟑𝟗 𝐬𝐞𝐜.

𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: You and Dazai — former members of the Port Mafia — make an announcement to Ango and Oda.

You placed your nearly-empty whiskey glass on the bar. An ice sphere ringed the bottom; yet your throat was still on fire.

“I didn’t take you for someone who could hold their liquor.” Ango noted. He adjusted his eyeglasses with his middle finger and you scoffed, “And I didn’t ask you to take me as anything.”

Your remark made Oda chuckle but Ango scoffed in response and turned his head away. “Easy there, Ango. I’m sure they didn’t mean anything by it.” Oda always did his best to defuse things between the two of you, but most times it did little to no good. Ango was just that stubborn.

Oda took a sip of his whiskey then motioned to the bartender to give you another shot. Top shelf. That made Ango grouch, “What are they even doing here in the first place, Dazai? If you hadn’t noticed, this was supposed to be a private get together.”

“Ah, Ango, and I took you as someone more observant. I’m surprised you haven’t figured it out yet. Or do you need me to say it?” Dazai raised his glass with a smug look on his face. Ango sighed, “So, it’s really true then?”

“And what’s that?” Oda asked. He looked down the bar with you seated in between Dazai and Ango. Your index finger traced the rim of your recently refilled glass.

“They’re together.” Ango continued, “Is it not obvious? If not from this, then from the noises I hear keeping me up at night.”

“Oh, is that why you’re grumpier than usual? I’m sorry. Won’t you ever forgive me?” You could tell that Dazai was being sarcastic, and that made Ango scoff for the hundredth time that night.

Oda cleared his throat. “Well, I’m happy for you both. Let’s cheers, a toast to the newly announced couple. I hope you both have long, happy lives together. Inside and outside of this place. Cheers.”

The four glasses clanged in harmony. “Yeah,” Ango muffled, mesmerized by your reflection through the whiskey. “Cheers.”

𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: You and Dazai — partners in crime — ran into some trouble while perusing what seemed to be an in and out job.

Dazai lowered his eyes, his fingers lingering underneath the embroidered collar. “Huh, K-9 is a weird name. Your owner must not have been creative.”

“K-9 isn’t his name; it’s his unit. He’s a police dog. Police K-9 like Canine. Have you not put two and two together?” You couldn’t help but laugh at his obliviousness; especially when Dazai gave you a look of utmost confusion, “That guy was a cop?”

You exhaled another laugh, “No, Dazai, he just screamed ‘put the gun down’ and ‘get on the ground’ for no reason. He was probably just a regular guy.” He was absolutely an undercover cop.

“That would explain a lot; he did tell K-9 to sic us. But come on, when this little guy ran after us, he wasn’t furious at all. He may have barked and growled but that was all for show.” It scared you how nonchalant Dazai could be. The dog almost ripped you both apart and knowing Dazai, he would have let him. “Isn’t that right, 9?”

The canine whined, resting their head atop their crossed paws. Oh, Dazai.

Dreary

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞: 𝟏 𝐦𝐢𝐧. 𝟓𝟏 𝐬𝐞𝐜.

𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Dazai — the bold jock — teaches your bullies a lesson before he reassures you it will be okay.

Concrete. Wet grass. You held the fabric of your shirt, taking a deep breath. Flower petals. Tree branches. “Who was it this time?” He asked. You turned around but your voice cracked when you spoke, “Daz—“

He tsked with a small laugh, stepping from one of the cement pillars he was leaned on to the stairs. Kneeling down, he said, “I thought I asked you a question.” Then his hand moved to your chin. “So, who was it?”

When you didn’t answer, he smiled at your dreary eyes shifting back and forth. “I already know the answer, huh?” You nodded. “And, it was because of the same thing?” You nodded.

He sighed and dropped his fingers from your chin. Pushing your hair back and wiping the tears from your face. “You’re going to stay here. And I’ll be back.”

You were going to ask him what he meant, or reach your hand out, but you couldn’t. You couldn’t reach out to him in time. He was too far already pulling open one of the double doors to the school. Please be careful, Dazai.

He attempted to straighten his disheveled clothing while you dampened his handkerchief. “Are you an idiot or are you just stupid?” You asked. He winced for you to be gentle when you started to dab his knuckles but you ignored him. “You can’t just go around beating people up that you don’t like.”

He halfheartedly laughed, “You should have said that before I left.” That caused you to toss his handkerchief into his lap, “Dazai, what are you going to do if you get in trouble, huh? Are you going to just shrug it off in the back of a patrol car?”

You breathed through your lips and Dazai wrapped the handkerchief around his hand, “You don’t have to worry about that. I’d be surprised if they’re even able to remember my face. If that happens, I’ll take care of it, okay?” You huffed at his words and rested your face into your hands.

“Hey,” You leaned up at his softened tone and glanced over. He rested his hand against your neck and pressed his lips onto your forehead, resting his there shortly after. “I’ll take care of it.” He whispered, “I promise.”

𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Port Mafia Dazai — your escort — was given a job to protect you — a special member of the Mafia. You shouldn’t be scared of someone meant to protect you.

“Do you regret it?” You asked, breaking the unbearable silence. “Now, after everything, do you regret taking this job?”

Dazai gazed at the night sky. He hadn’t looked at you all day just like you asked. Even when you insisted to bear a blindfold. “You say that like I didn’t volunteer. I already told you, I don’t care if I die out here. I’ve been trying to die for years now, remember?” You let out a dry laugh, “Yeah, I remember. But if you die around me that means I killed you.”

You turned at the grass shifting and your whole body stiffened when you felt breath against your face. Fingers tracing your leg. “You—You shouldn’t be—” He shushed you and you went quiet for a moment. “They said to stay away from me. If it falls off—”

“If it falls off, what?” His hand pulled the cloth down. Your face scrunched up with your eyes tightly closed in defense. “Look at me.”

You shook your head and his touch trailed upwards. Going from your hand, to your arm, onto your shoulder. “Look at me.” He whispered. “I don’t have a soul for you to steal.” You scoffed at that but you noticed his lack of reaction, “I’m not kidding. Open your eyes and I’ll prove it.” His fingers ghosted your cheek now.

You felt your face relax under his touch. You felt safe, warm.

Your eyes fluttered open. Your hands instinctively grasping onto his trenchcoat’s sleeve and you leaned closer when you couldn’t break eye contact. “See, I told you, your ability — window to the soul — it can’t hurt me. ” Your eyes shined with each and every soul you’ve captured. “The stars really are beautiful tonight.”

Dazai leaned beside you. Admiring the way sunshine kissed your neck and arms. They were holding your stuffed cat as they always did this time of morning. Your cheek using the pet as a makeshift pillow.

But Dazai thought he saw you move, and if he was wrong, a death wish was good too.

“Good morning,” He whispered. His finger trailing behind your ear with a lock of hair following with it. “Are you ready for my good morning kiss..?”
