September is back to school season for a lot of people - not me, as an Australian, but to a lot of the Northern Hemisphere as far as I know. And over the years, Barbie has had a few forays into this theme.

One of my favourites, personally, is 1992's Back to School Barbie, featuring a plaid skirt and sports jersey.

Very archetypal American High School-core, in my opinion. Subtle shades of School Spirit Barbie, but not to the extent of Barbie Style.

The 1996 Back to School Barbie is kind of a miss for me. I think it's the double denim over the red. It reminds me a little bit of a Coca-Cola Barbie. I'm not really getting school.

Although her shirt does have an apple on it, which I guess is school-themed.

For a more modern take, we need look no further than I Love School Barbie.

I like how she is updated for the modern era with a laptop and headphones instead of school books, but I don't think she's well-served by the more cheap-looking clothes that a lot of modern playline Barbies tend to have.

An honourable mention to the Skipper school days playset. The fact that it features her outfit but not, per the box, her shoes is a bit of an oversight - but I think this is cute.

Something about it looks quaint. It was made in 1992, but it looks like a bit of a throwback to even earlier.

I've decided to draw him being melancholic under the night sky as a tribute to that scene in Planes where he thinks about trying to fly again but gives up on it (there weren't stars in the sky in that scene though 😅)
