W A ✝ C H I N G
A Documentary about White Christian Nationalism. And about how it's revived itself and been newly empowered through Trump's rhetoric and other politicians perverting Christianity.
Wrongly professing that this is a Christian nation founded on Christian principals. So they can remove other people's right to freedom of religion, to take away everyone's rights across the board.
FIRST AMENDMENT ESTABLISHMENT CLAUSE:
"Congress cannot make laws that establish a religion or prohibit the free exercise of religion."
__________________________________________
The First Amendment provides that Congress make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting its free exercise. It protects freedom of speech, the press, assembly, and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Trump idolatry. He's a golden calf at Sinai. A cult image.

Me: Once Upon a Time season 1 is so cozy and comforting :)
ouat s1: government corruption, a woman almost having to give her baby away against her will, a mine collapsing with a child inside, a girl locked in a mental hospital, arson, homeless children needing to steal to survive, said homeless children almost getting separated in the foster care system, infidelity, drugging and kidnapping, attempted muder, actual murder, a murder trial that has nothing to do with the real actual murder, a man slowly and painfully turning into wood, etc.

French Fairy Treasures
Around the World Treasures: Famous French Fairy Tales by the father of the French fairy tale Charles Perrault (1628-1703) and collected and adapted from the original Perrault by David Stone, was published in New York by Frankin Watts Inc., a division of Grolier, in 1959. The book includes The Picture Story of Perrault's Famous French Fairy Tales, illustrated by British artist and teacher Charles Mozley (1914-1991), a book illustrator and designer of posters, book covers, and print. Along with these striking color drawings are black-and-white illustrations depicting key moments within each story. Noel Streatfeild (1895-1986), an English children's book author, provides an introduction to the book. In it, she details the essential moments in Perrault's life that led him to write these stories. According to Streatfeild, before Perrault's Contes, nobody had ever read a fairy tale! Before that, these stories were passed down and enjoyed through oral tradition.
Perrault played a significant role in the literary controversy called the "Quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns." At 23, he became a lawyer, following in his father's footsteps, before embarking on a political career, which led him into the court of the Sun King, Louis XIV of France. Spending time in his court is where Perrault garnered inspiration to write his stories. His simple, unaffected style breathed new life into half-forgotten folk tales. Interestingly, some of his versions influenced the German tales collected by the Brothers Grimm more than a century later.
So, whether you find yourself wondering in the woods like Little Red Riding Hood or dreaming of glass slippers like Cinderella, Perrault's timeless tales remain a delightful part of our childhood imagination, capturing the magic and wonder of storytelling for generations to come!

The temptation to bring it home was very high… ( I didn't see the price since it was probably under it, but I'm pretty sure it was out of my bubget!)

And -I'm not kidding you- it's written on the milk pot beside it "Two of us" in french, I could have cried! (It couldn't just be a coincidence, I know I saw them everywhere but this is so on the nose, maybe the owner of the thrift shop is a GO fan? ^^ )
Edit: I have to inform everyone that the statue was bought by someone! I just came back from that shop and it's not here anymore (the milk pot is, however XD)

The Scandalous Chemise of Marie Antoinette
Tumblr media
Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun (French, 1783-) • Marie Antoinette in a Chemise Dress • 1783
Just as John Singer Sargent did some 100 years later, Elizabeth Vigée Le Brun often befriended her portrait subjects, engaging their trust so as to create authentic portraits that captured not just the likeness but the spirit of the sitter. Such was the case with Vigée Le Brun's Marie Antoinette in a Chemise Dress.
Vigée Le Brun was the official court painter. She painted Marie Antoinette approximately 30 times. For the "chemise dress" painting, it's unclear whose idea it was that the queen depart from traditional, more formal dress and wear a casual, unstructured dress instead. Perhaps Vigée Le Brun persuaded her to wear the white chemise or they arrived at the decision together.
The dress itself is made from cotton muslin instead of the French silk that royalty usually had their garments made from. It is tied comfortably at the waist with a yellow sash. The only ornamentation are the puffed sleeves and the ruffled neckline. Marie wears very little makeup and no jewelry.
Despite its simple elegance, the painting was met with much scorn and disapproval when it was shown at Vigée Le Brun's first Académie Salon. Though the garment was designed to be a dress, its lack of structure resembled an undergarment and was thus considred scandalous. Further, it was considered unpatriotic that the queen of France wore imported cotton rather than French Lyonnaise silk. Vigée Le Brun was forced to remove the portrait from the Salon and it was replaced with this one:

Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun (French, 1755–1842). Marie Antoinette with a Rose • 1783
By the end of the 18th century, the chemise dress was hugely popular and worn for portraits by many prominent women in and outside of France. Marie Antoinette's fashion faux pas led to a fashion craze which is said by some historians to have been a catalyst for the slave trade, as the demand for cotton grew exponentially.

Right: Jacques Louis David (French, 1748-1825) • Antoine Laurent Lavoisier and His Wife • 1788.
Left: George Romney (British/English, 1734-1802) • Mrs. Billington as Saint Cecilia • 1787-88
The chemise dress was to evolve to an empire waist and a narrower skirt, creating the style we now call The Regency fashion era.
