Crisis? What Crisis? (from English — "Crisis? What kind of crisis?") is the fourth studio album by the prog rock band Supertramp, released in 1975.
Supertramp - Crisis? What Crisis? (1975)
Tumblr media
Crisis? What Crisis? the band's first CD recorded in the USA (Los Angeles). The title of the album is taken from Fred Zinnerman's feature film "Day of the Jackal", released in 1973.
Four songs from the album ("Sister Moonshine", "Another Man's Woman", "Lady", and "Just a Normal Day") were performed at concerts before they were recorded in the studio, which shows the band's performance at The Hammersmith Odeon in London in March 1975, which later It was included in the 2001 edition of "Is Everybody Listening?".
Tumblr media
A remastered CD version of the album was released on June 11, 2002 by A&M Records. The edition contains the original cover design, a list of artists and the lyrics of all the songs, which was not in previous editions.
____________
They didn't assemble mega-halls packed to the brim with raging fans. Most of their performances were attended by an aesthetically pleasing audience who preferred a chamber setting, and by definition there could not be many such an audience. In addition, too little time has passed since the release of the triumphant "Crime Of The Century" and that album, like the band itself, has not yet managed to find its upcoming titles. Although all the prerequisites for this took place. But at the same time, it would not surprise anyone if everything had been reduced to the creative burnout of the young quintet. Fate, however, has prepared a different development for Supertramp.
Tumblr media
It all started with the fact that due to a hand injury to guitarist Roger Hodgson, they had to prematurely end Crime Tours North American Leg. This led to dissatisfaction on the part of the management of A&M Records, which forced the band to fill this unforeseen downtime with the preparation of a new record. The musicians had no choice but to start a session in one of the studios in Los Angeles, although they were not ready for this at all. After a busy tour schedule, new ideas did not want to come to the heads of the leaders and authors of the entire Supertramp repertoire, Rick Davis and Roger Hodgson - the band needed a break. Meanwhile, they had little time for everything - just a few weeks instead of the usual few months.
They were saved then by the fact that a lot of previously unrealized material of dubious quality had accumulated in the Supertramp storerooms. And also a great relationship with sound engineer Ken Scott, who "polished" their previous "Crime..." and whose participation in the work on the new LP as a co-producer gave hope that this record, which at first seemed doomed, would still sound.
Back in March 1975, four previously unreleased songs ("Sister Moonshine", "Lady", "Just A Normal Day" and "Another Man's Woman") were voiced by the band at London's Hammersmith Odeon and even recorded by the British Air Force. Out of desperation, it was decided to take them as a basis, despite the fact that these semi-finished products did not inspire the musicians themselves. Besides, rehearsals were difficult at first. And in general, the situation in the studio at that time was far from ideal. The musicians didn't like the setting, they didn't like the material they were getting. The new compositions "Ain't Nobody But Me" by Davis and "The Meaning" by Hodgson indicated another problem that has already been outlined for "Crime...", but so far not so acute as to start ringing all the bells. The creative differences between the two Supertramp leaders eventually came to light and made themselves felt. A story that is as old as the world. And if in life these two maintained quite friendly relations, then in their work Rick and Roger appeared as convinced antagonists. There are only memories of the former spiritual unity of the first years of Supertramp's existence.
Tumblr media
Despite the initially unimportant commercial result, "Crisis? What Crisis?" It made it to the Top 20 of the British UK Album Chart and to the Top 50 of the American one. The authoritative Billboard 200 brought the record to the 44th highest place. The British newspaper Record Mirror included this work by Supertramp in its annual list of the best albums of 1975.
Roger Hodgson - guitar, keyboards, lead vocals (1,2,4,6,8-10)
Richard Davies - keyboards, harmonica, lead vocals (3,5,7,8)
John Anthony Helliwell - wind instruments, backing vocals
Dougie Thomson - bass
Bob C. Siebenberg - drums, percussion
With:
Richard Anthony Hewson - orchestra & choir arrangements

Life In Quiet River City Highlights 'Music Man'
Tumblr media
Julee Cruise takes advantage of a quiet moment in her role as Eulalie MacKecknie Shinn, the mayor's gossipy wife.
"Music Man" was selected as this year's musical. The Merideth Wilson plays centers on the life in a small Iowa town, River City. River City is a quiet village until one Professor Hill arrives and disrupts the normal life and activities of the town.
Tumblr media
Comic relief was provided by Kathy Mercer, Greg Boden, Meri Beth Herzberg, Dennis Prescott, Julee Cruise, Rich Roe, Kim Johnson, Deanna Freemeyer, and Dave Stoker as the members of the barbershop quartet and the Pick-a-little-talk-a-little ladies.
Profesor Hill, a charlatan, hoodwinks the people into believing that they need a boys' band. The town then thrives on the vision of this new band.
Neither the mayor nor the school board of River City trust this Hill, thus setting up one of the major conflicts in the play.
If this were the only conflict, Professor Hill might be home free, but these is Marian, the librarian. He chases her, she ignores him; she chases him, he likes it.
In the end, the audience learns that real talent sometimes exists only in the mind. Professor Hill and Marian unite; River City returns to its placid and tranquil ways.
Leads were held by seniors Julie Fehrle, Steve Tackett, Julee Cruise, Peter Eklund, and Dave Smith. Mike Johnson, sixth grader from Cromwell, played the part of Winthrop Paroo. Source: Crest 1975 - Creston High School Yearbook
