Darren looked around in confusion for a beat, before glancing down at the small blonde girl staring up at him with a pair of the most intense eyes he'd ever seen. 

“Oh, uh, you're Emily…something. I don't know your last name--”

“Conrad told me that you guys are a thing now, congratulations, he's wonderful.”

Darren squinted. “...Wait is this like a shovel talk or something?”

Emily scoffed. “No, I would never, those are sexist, heteronormative and demeaning.”

Darren relaxed a little. “Oh, okay, I agree--”

“More importantly though, there'd be nothing to bury.”

Darren immediately tensed again. Because he could tell she was serious and honestly had no idea what she was referring to specifically.

“Hey, look I know I got a bit of a reputation--”

“I actually don't care about violence as long as it's aimed in the right direction, and you do that often enough. But Conrad is never the right direction, understand?”

Darren's eyes widened. “Yo! I'd-I’d never--”

“I don't think you would, just doing my due diligence. If you go to juvie he'll be heartbroken and blame himself.”

“I'm not getting into stuff like that anymore--”

“Honestly? I believe in you, and I didn't realize how sad Conrad was until I saw how happy you make him, so I think this will work fine. I just followed your Instagram. I'm excited to be friends.”

She offered her hand to shake, and Darren, gripped by a terror he hadn't felt in a long time, took it gently.

The bit where everyone takes Quinni to the zoo is so well done. Right from the start of that but we see how uncomfortable Quinni is, and see why she’s hurting before she says anything. Ca$h notices when her best friend doesn’t seem to.

But yeah, when they invite her to the zoo, she doesn’t seem to want to be there, at no point do they ask what she wants, they just assume she’ll appreciate it even though we know she hates plan changes. As an autistic person, I imagine she’s similar to me with things being sprung on her, so it would make sense that she’s already stressed out. Having someone else make plans for me and then do a surprise thing for my birthday would honestly freak me out no matter how well intentioned.

The whole way around it becomes obvious that they’re doing this to try and make themselves feel better, not Quinni. They say they’re going for her, but they immediately leave her behind at the entrance, running off and chatting. With every exhibit they visit, she’s always the last one to leave which represents very concisely her fear of being left behind.

She even asks at one point what she’s missed and she’s brushed off by Darren, the one person who has always been understanding. It’s not done maliciously but it’s dismissive at best.

She then later expresses her fear of being left, explaining that she hates change and feels that no one is giving her a chance to keep up, and the whole zoo trip represents that so well. It makes sense that no one sees how stressed she is because they’re all so excited about the next thing they just don’t see her.

Quinni was the QUEEN this season

Her murder wall was amazing

The scene where she freaks out because everything is changing so fast

Keeping herself alive until the others can find her after being bitten by a venomous snake

Refusing to mask for several days just to show her friends (Darren especially) just how much different she is when not pretending even a bit

I love that her favorite books made a reappearance, special interests are so important

Everything with the school captain debate because of course she knows everyone at the school and her calling Sasha and Spider out was perfect

The little moments with her and Cash at the zoo (I'm an autistic Cash truther)

Her wanting to find Bird Psycho because she feels like that's the one thing she can do for Amerie

And she does

Queen of B&E

Asking Sasha to be her vice captain and Sasha thinking Quinni wants to get back together

Honestly I think working together might help Sasha understand Quinni a bit more and then I could see their relationship working out better this time if they do give it another go
