Why was Five being fleshed out and turned into a killing machine never explored in the show? It would've been such a good plot device for Five, like, they could have made him have his "Am I even actually real anymore" moment or a cute bonding episode with his siblings that makes him realize that he's just as human as the people he's trying to save

What's this AU about?

Q&A:

What is the Successor AU? -An alternate universe where Mei and Mk were born in the same era that Redson was. -Macaque raised Mei, Wukong raised Mk, and Nezha raised Redson. -Story has shadowpeach implications in it. Don't like? Don't read.

What are the changes to this universe? -Shapeshifting and glamour don't exist. Hence why Macaque can't hide his eye or his ears. -Macaque was on the Journey to the West with Wukong -Wukong never killed Macaque in this AU -And other changes, but for the most part, it's the same.

When and Where does it take place? -The story takes place around 95 years after the journey to the west ended. So it takes place in like ancient times. -Takes place in China (supposedly, I mean, I'm assuming the JTTW took place in China.)

Why did Macaque, Wukong, and Nezha raise those three? -I can't answer for Macaque and Mei cuz that's a spoiler. -Nuwa created and gave Mk's stone egg to Wukong as a sort of challenge to see if he could raise a child. (There's more detail to it but that'd be a spoiler.) -Nezha is the god of children, so he took it upon himself to take responsibility for Redson after Princess Iron Fan was put in jail. He calls himself Redson's "older brother."

What's the story summary? -Basically, I just wanted to create a possessive Wukong AU. Most of the story is basically a game of hide and seek. Where, over the years, Wukong tries to find Macaque but keeps just missing him. Redson finds Mk stuck on Flower Fruit Mountain and they bond over time. Mei eventually finds Redson and Mk while she was on her own journey. Read the story to find out what happens!

Really unpopular opinion that arose after rewatching season 3 and 4 of LMK, but it annoys me to no end that Macaque barely did anything to improve (hasn't even apologized to MK lol) and basically got no consequences for his actions and yet he still got his redemption served to him on a silver platter.

Not to mention how much the fandom sugarcoats what he did, but I can't really blame them because the show is kinda doing it by itself considering the other characters' reactions. Like, you mean to tell me that Mei, of all people, would gladly fight side by side with Macaque?

Actually, why is the entire group so… casual around him as if they didn't watch the mf beat the shit out of MK right in front of them?

Highlight to Mei and Pigsy cause they are the first ones to call out Wukong about his mistakes, and them doing that while also giving Macaque a pass after everything he did to them makes no sense.

And it annoys me even more because there were villains/antagonists who could have easily had a redemption arc but got killed off instead.

Also the same thing happened with the Demon Bull Family: They hurt and tried to kill MK and many lives were at risk because of them, but guess what? No consequences lmao they're all besties now.

I can never stop thinking about Joachim and how I am positive he was meant to have a crucial role in LoI.

The signs are there! All of them!

he has a fairly elaborated, appealing design that Kojima reserves usually to the protagonists. Not surprisingly, a lot of Joachim's elements like the color of his hair and his armor went to Hector later on.

he has not only a tragic backstory that makes him intriguing and sympathetic (and also explains his situation in the game, while the other bosses simply exist there), but even art depicting it, quite unusual considering his very limited screentime. Joachim could genuinely be the villain protagonist of his own story, with all the elements we know about his relationship with Walter, his desires, his trauma, and his powers.

the OST has two remixes of his theme. Not one, two! And one of them has the curious title "Young Nobleman of the Water Prison" - as I said, "young nobleman" is a moniker Yamane gave to much more important characters like Alucard and Isaac. (even the name Melancholy Joachim is quite felt: in the original name, 哀愁のヨアヒム, 哀愁 means "pathos, grief, sorrow", so a more accurate translation would be "Joachim's Sorrow"...)

in the story, he reveals the crucial information of the Ebony and Crimson Stone, also begging the question of how he knew that. Furthermore, while you can play the levels in any order, the Dark Palace of Waterfalls is noticeably longer and more complicated than the others: it's as if it was meant to be played for last. This would make Joachim a climatic encounter.

and, of course, he has his own alt. mode, a role usually reserved for the Belmonts or the rivals of the game. This implies Joachim was meant to be Leon's rival of sort, perhaps a narrative foil (he even has his own personal boss fight theme!). And while the context of Joachim Mode is still vague, he has the privilege of a final cutscene where he laughs on Walter's throne, which makes the mode almost a What If? worth exploring: what if Joachim won against Walter, and Mathias couldn't use his soul to become Dracula? What would happen to Leon?

anyway this is a lot of consideration for someone whose lines can be counted on your hands and who doesn't even put up much of a fight
