Regulus reads the ransom letter over French toast. There’s a half-grapefruit waiting for him, a cup of aromatic coffee, and a pot of Darjeeling. By all accounts, it’s the perfect breakfast.
Dear Lady Black, the letter reads, in a cursive written by someone who can’t write in cursive, I am sorry to say I have abducted your son, Master Regulus Black. Don’t worry, he is perfectly safe and will remain so, however if you would like to… the letter continues in such a manner. Even Regulus isn’t sure if he’d been kidnapped (sorry, abducted), or if he has simply popped out for a day with an old friend. There is only a vague mention of ransom – never mind the amount – and the man had signed with his full name.
“James Potter?”
“Yes?” the man – James – responds. Perks up.
“That’s really your name? And you put it in the letter?”
“Seemed the polite thing to do.”
“Are you dumb?”
James looks somewhere between affronted and amused. Not how people usually answer to being insulted.
Regulus twirls the fork in his fingers, and it turns into a rather smart – albeit still silver – quill. He’s always been adept at transfiguration. James snags on the movement, takes in a sharp breath. A click of fingers and the parchment turns blank.
To Her Excellence Lady Black, Regulus writes, using his non-dominant hand to obscure his handwriting. The words are rendered in a non-recognisable, but still stunning cursive.
As you are by now no doubt aware, your son Master Regulus Black has been kidnapped. At present he is safe and well. Please see attached a lock of his hair as confirmation.
No physical harm shall befall him, provided you follow the instructions I give you. Should you not, his death will not be swift.
Do not, for any reason, attempt to communicate with the Auror department or any private agency.
Before end of the week, secure 20 thousand galleons in old currency.
The galleons must be placed in a large cigar box, securely closed and wrapped in white paper. Remain at home and alert until midnight on Saturday and await further instructions.
Regulus signs the letter with an unreadable squiggle in place of a name, then twirls the silver quill around his fingers – it turns into a sharp, simple dagger. He cuts off a lock of his hair from behind an ear, where the disruption won’t be visible. Vanity, as always, present.
James stares dumbly as Regulus hands him the hair.
“Secure it and put it in the envelope with the letter.”
“Why?”
“She can see my magical signature in it. Will know that I’m alive and you’re not just trying to extort money for a corpse.”
“Huh,” James looks struck with something. “Clever. Never knew you could do that.” He takes the letter and reads through it, promptly choking on his tea. “20 thousand? Are you insane?”
Regulus doesn’t respond. Changes the dagger back into a fork (and James’ eyes get stuck on that, again), and goes back to his breakfast.
“That’s way too much money.”
“And how much were you going to ask for?”
“I don’t know. Five hundred?”
“Five… five hundred? That’s just insulting. Are you trying to be insulting?”
“What?”
“You think I’m worth five hundred galleons? The heir of the House of Back? Five hundred?”
Regulus is furious. Not only has he been kidnapped (abducted) by a moron: the moron thinks him worthless.
“Five hundred galleons is a lot of money.”
“Sure. If you’re poor,” Regulus argues, “you want five hundred? Here,” he takes the cheapest ring off his fingers and drops it on the table in front of James, “this is worth about double, pawn it and keep the change.”
James twirls the ring around his fingers. “Very pretty,” he smiles, slipping it on, rubbing the little leaf motif engraved in the silver, “you walk around with thousands worth of jewellery on you? Surprised nobody kidnapped you before.”
“I thought I was abducted.”
James looks downright delighted by the answer.

There is easy low hanging fruit here, especially about the US and salty tea. And I'm so SO tempted.
But also I'm super in to tea and I'm bored.
The perfect cup of tea is how you want to drink it, and if you do not LIKE tea then drinking it a different way, or a different kind of tea, vastly changes it.
A pinch of salt makes things less bitter, this trick also works with coffee. But other things that affect taste are tempriture, length of time it brews, where the tea was grown, the climate, the soil, and how big the leaves are. Some of the cheapest tea has little more than dust in the tea bag while more expensive teas you will notice have more structure to the leaves.
Tea brewed in colder tempeitures needs longer and creates a different taste. It may require more tea to get the specific flavour you want, and generally it is less bitter for it. Similar thing to spices where if you cook them, use them hot, toast them first, etc, you get a different set of flavours to using them cold.
Like wine, tea can have lots of flavour profiles and colours. Assam for example is very dark, malty, and strong, it can get quite bitter. Ceylon is much lighter. Darjeeling is good with lemon, but Assam is better with milk, in my humble opinion. Lapsang Sushong is very smokey. Earl Grey
Most people will drink a mix. English breakfast is usually a mix of Assam, Ceylon, and Kenyan. Earl Grey is flavoured with bergamot.
White, green, and black tea all come from the same plant, just different parts of it, treated differently. Black tea can take a higher tempriture, but boiling water on green and white tea will scorch the leaves and make it very bitter. Agitating the tea can also have this effect as it releases more tannin.
As a general rule there is a tea for everyone, and a way to drink it that you will enjoy, whether that's hot, cold, mixing it with spices, flavourings, fruit, milk, sugar, lemon, and yes, even a pinch of salt.
I would not, however, recommend tea that has been in the Boston harbour.

Reblog for bigger sample sizes. I know there are LOTS of types of teas out there, and I tried to cover most of the ones I could think of (I split up herbal because there are so many different flavor profiles!)
Also, I know the names might vary based on where you live and there are a lot more subcategories than what I listed. If there are any that I haven't listed that you love, please let me know!

Darjeeling Tea History: Time Travel Through Flavor with Makaibari India

Situated amidst the magnificent Himalayan ranges, the region of Darjeeling is not only acclaimed for its breathtaking vistas but is also the birthplace of the globally celebrated Darjeeling tea. Often described as the "Champagne of Teas," the allure of this tea's aroma and taste transports one back in time, through a rich tapestry of history and tradition.
From Scenic Slopes to Tea Gardens: The Beginning
In the 19th century, the British Empire's insatiable thirst for Chinese tea propelled them towards the verdant slopes of Darjeeling. Until then, these hillsides were untouched by the hands of commercial tea cultivation. The region's high altitudes, plentiful rain, and enveloping mists beckoned as the perfect abode for tea plants.
However, tea's advent in Darjeeling was not without challenges. The indigenous communities of Lepchas, Bhutias, and Gorkhas, whose lives were entwined with the rhythms of these lands, were affected as tea gardens started flourishing. These communities, with their distinct cultural footprints, became an intrinsic part of the emerging tea legacy.
A Flavor Fostered by Nature: The Unmatched Darjeeling Terroir
Terroir, an elegant French term, underlines the essence of Darjeeling tea. It represents the unique blend of Darjeeling's climate, soil, and sunlight, endowing the tea with a one-of-a-kind flavor profile. Whether it's the fruity zest or the woody undertones, each sip of Darjeeling tea narrates a story of its land.
Harvesting Seasons: The Flushes of Darjeeling
Each flush or seasonal harvest of Darjeeling tea introduces us to a distinct flavor profile:
First Flush (Spring Tea): Symbolizing a rejuvenated earth post-winter, this tea is fresh with floral undertones.
Second Flush (Summer Tea): This flush gifts us the renowned muscatel flavor, a harmonious blend of fruity and nutty aromas.
Monsoon Flush (Rainy Tea): Bold and strong, it's the essence of the monsoons captured in a cup.
Autumn Flush (Autumnal Tea): Evoking the warmth of autumn, it is full-bodied and slightly fruity.
An Epic Journey: The Historical Canvas
Darjeeling's journey from a secluded mountainous region to a globally renowned tea producer is intertwined with tales of colonial trade politics, expeditions, and political upheavals. Its unique geographical location and the relentless pursuit for a distinct tea flavor profile shaped its destiny. Darjeeling, with its intricate history, stands today not only as a testament to the indomitable human spirit but also as a beacon of nature's magnificence.
A Journey Through the Delights of Darjeeling Tea
As the morning sun warms the lush slopes of the Darjeeling tea estate, a delicate aroma rises with the mist. This is the land of Makaibari tea, one of the most renowned brands globally. Among the myriad offerings from this region, three particular teas stand out for their distinctiveness and flavour profile.
APOORVA ORGANIC DARJEELING BLACK TEA
This exquisite leaf tea, a gem among the best Darjeeling tea, is crafted during the sun-kissed weeks of June and July. The result of such dedication? An amber-hued liquor with a distinct muscatel flavour. As you brew it for the optimal four minutes, the liquor reveals its rich amber brilliance. A sip will treat you to a harmonious dance of raisin and berry notes, capturing the essence of a classic Darjeeling black tea crafted in the warm summer months.
GREEN ELIXIR CHESTLET - DARJEELING GREEN TEA
When speaking of Green Tea, one cannot overlook the Green Elixir Chestlet. These pale green leaves are not only a visual treat but also a testament to the health benefits that come with Green tea antioxidants. With strong revitalising properties, this tea stands out as a great example of Organic green tea.
GOLDEN BRU - DARJEELING BLACK TEA
Steeped in tradition, this Organic Second Flush tea brings forth a vibrant hue, a testament to its name, Golden Bru. Among the range of Black Tea from Darjeeling, this one ensures a cup that is both coloury and flavourful.
But these are just the teas we’ve mentioned. For those looking for a more delicate experience, the Darjeeling white tea and Moonlight white tea come highly recommended. The latter, interestingly, gets its name from the unique Moonlight Plucking process, where tea leaves are harvested under the soft glow of the moon. This technique ensures a flavour profile that's unparalleled and brimming with White tea benefits.
For those who prefer something in between, there's the Oolong tea, a wonderful middle ground between black and green. Not to mention, the myriad Oolong tea benefits that make it a must-try for every tea aficionado.
In conclusion, whether you're a first-time explorer or a seasoned tea enthusiast, the Makaibari tea estate offers a plethora of options. Each sip is a journey, a testament to the rich heritage of the Darjeeling tea estate and the magic it brings to every cup. Enjoy your brew!

Ace Trappola: Trouble, that Trappola
Wow, different pjs??? I wonder if each student will truly have unique sleepwear or if it’ll be like “everyone in the same dorm has similar sleepwear, just recolored and with a different motif”. I’ve been laughing about how Ace is dressed and posed, it’s very… Justin Bieber-coded. His bedhead though, it reminds me of Sylvain from FE3H.
Fun fact, I have an irl friend that has the same birthday as Ace... Therefore, I am legally obligated to celebrate it with them/j This year, we're going to an Alice in Wonderland-themed afternoon tea, which I think is very appropriate for Ace! Aaaaaah, My Alice in Wonderland-loving heart can’t take it 😭
Rise and Shine!
He was having a pleasant dream.
There was a path, and the longer he walked on that path, the more the scenery morphed into nonsense.
First was a forest full of twisting turns, colorful signs that pointed this way and that. There was mewing coming from the trees overhead, but every time he looked, he’d find no one there.
Next was a field of progressively bigger and bigger plants. The flowers had faces set in them, and they taunted Ace as he passed. He had plucked the underside of a mushroom cap and chomped down on it. A mistake—Ace had an out-of-body experience, ballooning to the size of a giant and then back to his regular size.
Then he washed away in a sea of tea, spilling from a gigantic glass bottle labelled Drink Me. He swam with the sugar cubes drifting in the fragrant rapids. He caught a current of milk and rode it past trees of chocolate. A dollop of grape jam had dropped down from a branch and landed on his nose.
When Ace, at last, fished himself out of the tea, he was left sticky, skin caked in sugar. As he made to wring his clothes of Darjeeling, he spotted an iced cookie by his feet. Eat Me, it said. There was a trail of them, confections dotting the road ahead in a neat trail. He had followed it—followed until the cookies became crumbs and he was left wandering in a white void, a blank canvas.
Wandering… wandering… where?
Just as that question cropped up like an unwanted weed in an otherwise flawless lawn, a soft sound tickled his ear.
Someone was calling his name.
Who is it…?
He picked up his pace. A casual stroll to a speed walk, then a speed walk into a jog, a job into a run, then a run into a full-on sprint.
"I'm coming! I'm coming already, darn it!!" Ace shouted into the blinding white. "I'm coming, so...!!"
Wait for me. I'll meet you there.
I'll definitely, definitely...!!
His eyes snapped open.
He was lying on his back, wrapped up in his comforter and staring up at the ceiling of his bedroom. Ace blinked several times, slowly adjusting to the sunlight that was spilling in through drawn curtains. A groan escaped him--it was too early for this.
“Mmm… What time is it?” He rolled over in a groggy daze, reaching for his phone. It was still connected to a charger, but it snapped right out of its socket when Ace jolted up. "WHAT?!"
The time, it couldn't be correct. But the line of text messages in his history confirmed the building dread in his stomach.
Gm, Ace! I'll be over soon. Cya then.
I'm here!
Hey, are you up? It's 10 minutes past.
Did you stay up late talking to your bro and sleep through your alarm again?
Hellooooo?
I'm gonna leave without you if you don't come out in 5 minutes.
"Crap, I'm running late!!"
Ace leapt out of bed and flew across his room. The comics and magazines littering his mattress scattered to the floor, but he didn't stop to pick them up.
He moved like lightning, hurriedly dressing and rushing into the communal washroom. While he brushed his teeth with one hand (lest he face the wrath of his vice dorm leader), he teased out his hair with the other. After splashing his face with water (who was going to clock him, Vil?), Ace scribbled on his signature heart, grabbed his backpack, and slipped into his sneakers.
He had his technique down pat thanks to years of practice.
Ace bolted down the hall, stuffing a protein bar into his mouth as he cleared the door. The day greeted him--and so did you, glancing up from your own phone.
"There you are! You kept me waiting, wise guy," you lectured him. It wasn't anything serious--not like his dorm leader's lengthy tirades--just paling around.
"Excuse you," Ace huffed, running a hand through his hair, "I'm fashionably late. There's a difference."
You laughed. Typical of him to always have a snappy comeback prepared.
"Well, c'mon then, fashionably late loser," you urged, playfully nudging his arm, "or we'll both be tardy."
"We'll be late, but at least we'll be late together," he grumbled, nudging you back. "That's fine by me. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to be stuck in a room with ya for the afternoon."
"That's a weird way of describing detention with Crewel-sensei."
"What can I say? I'm a poet," he shrugged, letting his sarcasm drip like thick nectar. "Besides, I can't leave you hangin'."
"No?" Your eyebrows hitched. "Funny, cuz I clearly remember you ditching me for cleaning duty on the first day of classes. I almost thought you had left for class without me today too."
"Oi, that was then and this is now! Come on, do you really think I'd do that to you? Me? Really?"
"Absolutely," you said without missing a beat.
"Pfft. You're so wrong about that." He rolled his eyes. "If you were really that worried that I'd gone without you, you could've poked your head in to check on me."
You frowned. "That'd mean I'd have to go into your room."
"So? I've been over at your place and in your room before. What's the big deal? You'd just be returning the favor."
He leaned in, so close that your noses almost touched. Your heart stood still. The corners of Ace's mouth lifted into a smirk. It suited him well, loathe as you were to admit it.
"Or is it that you're being shy?" he asked in a singsong. "Prefect 🎵"
"I-I'm not!" you squeaked, stepping back to put distance between the two of you. "Quit assuming things, Ace! This is why you're so annoying."
"And who is it that's decided to hang out with my 'annoying' ass, huh?" he countered smoothly.
"Urgh...! Maybe I shouldn't have wasted my time waiting for you to get ready after all..." you muttered, turning away from him. "My morning would be way more peaceful without you."
"Way less interesting too," he quipped--getting in the last word.
You shook your head, but didn't bring yourself to argue. However meddlesome his tongue was, he had spoken the naked truth.
He's trouble, that Trappola.

some tea recipes
if you like tea rituals or giving tea offerings, then this post is for you! keep in mind, though, DEFINITELY do your research on any of the herbs/plants I've listed here if you've never put them in your body before. there's no harm in making substitutions or omitting certain things for the sake of your own health. i've gone ahead and highlighted some herbs that have potential side effects (although not everything i've highlighted may effect you, and not everything i haven't is for sure safe).
also, all of these teas can be made with one of those little tea strainer balls, or with a good mesh sieve. either way, have some way of removing the mix after it's steeped, because over-steeped tea can get sour. store any leftover tea mix in an airtight container in a cool, dry place
if you need to replace any fresh ingredients with dried, divide the quantity in half. also, some of the floral teas will seem like it's a lot of mix just for one cup, but petals just aren't as strong as leaves/roots/etc.
CLEAR SKIES TEA
