Darius Jones - fLuXkit Vancouver (i̶t̶s suite but sacred)

A radiant manifesto of artistic freedom, fLuXkit Vancouver (i̶t̶s suite but sacred) brings together a composition in four movements written and performed by Jones on alto saxophone, long-time collaborator Gerald Cleaver on drums, and four Vancouver-based string musicians: violinists Jesse Zubot and Josh Zubot, cellist Peggy Lee and bassist James Meger; with original artwork by Stan Douglas and liner notes by poet Harmony Holiday. Commissioned by Western Front, an artist-run center for multidisciplinary experimentation and the historic home of the avant-garde in Vancouver, Jones drew inspiration from Western Front’s art is life ethos and its legacy of exchange with creative musicians such as George Lewis and Ornette Coleman. Composed across a series of residencies beginning in 2019 and recorded in June 2022 at Western Front’s iconic Grand Luxe Hall, fLuXkit Vancouver (i̶t̶s suite but sacred) is the first collaborative release with Brooklyn-based Northern Spy and Helsinki-based We Jazz Records. For Fluxus artists, art can exist anywhere. This can take the physical form of a fluxkit, a collection of artworks and everyday objects placed in a small container or box. By challenging definitions and pushing artistic boundaries, anyone who opens a fluxkit can experience an art event. Jones presents us with a fluxkit that we want to reopen again and again. The cover art for fLuXkit Vancouver was contributed by internationally acclaimed Vancouver-based artist Stan Douglas. Part of Douglas’ DCT series (2016 - ongoing), Occ6 is a brightly colored abstraction created through manipulating frequencies, amplitudes, and color values at the point in the digitization process where a photographic image is only represented by code. Occ6 mesmerizes and in turn offers a visual language that is untethered from conventional notions of the art form. “Stan found this world inside of a machine. Is this a photo?” Jones asks. “Is it a painting? What am I looking at? Maybe something that doesn’t exist anywhere else.” The music of fLuXkit Vancouver also exists in between worlds: Is this a compositional suite? Is it sacred music? Or is it simply art? Jones’ score includes visual components — a 25 unique graphics key for extended technique on strings — alongside standard musical notation. Hey guys i had a bad fucking afternoon. I was gonna show this cunt weeks later but i need this rn.

His name is Darius Jones and he was Sir Wilford's right hand man before Terrence. Dude was a huge flirtatious asshole who clung to Wilford the moment he saw potential in his bloodthirsty eyes. He joined as an engineer for the Airship but was known to be more involved in raids and the like.

Half the time Darius was a sycophant to Wilford and the other half was him messing around with the guy or just goading him into doing stuff he wants. He's overtly affectionate towards Wilford to the point where many people believed they were a couple (maybe it was true maybe it wasnt)

His outfit's based on a Lionfish, for reasons I'm not getting into rn. He and Wilford also broke up really nastily but that's for a day where I feel like talking about it

Edward and Oswald are married, I am very biased

Jervis is pan and genderqueer, he doesn't see gender like other people do. He has a tendency to slip up on pronouns when he's less than lucid because he's seeing everyone as Alice in wonderland characters

On the subject of Jervis, he is schizophrenic and often times his hallucinations influence his delusions, he often times sees the Cheshire cat vanish and leaves just it's smile

Jonathan and Waylon both have thick southern accents and sometimes have trouble being understood because of it

Waylon was born the way he is, I know some people like to go the mutation route but he's just metahuman to me

Speaking of metahuman, I think some of the metahuman rogues form a tight knit circle, especially when they're in Arkham together

Oswald is disabled, he just is. He uses his cane to walk and has birth defects that fused parts of his body together, for instance his fingers

Edward is autistic, he also has npd and ocd, he doesn't want to leave hints to his crimes but he has such strong compulsions to, he can't stop himself. He also wears his gloves to stop himself from being overstimulated by any bad textures (I'm totally not biased I swear/sarc)

Harley is Jewish, I'm pretty sure that's canon too

Ivy was a biologist before getting mutated into what she is, she often shares fun facts about plants with harley

Selena is autistic and her special interest is cats
