More dust settling... I'll talk about Pixar some more, given that this was the year a certain Pete Docter quote caught a loooot of fire...

Mainly, him implying that - ahead of the release of INSIDE OUT 2 - Pixar would back down from making more "autobiographical" films like LUCA, TURNING RED, and ELEMENTAL, and going for more "general appeal" sorts of stories.

I read this as Pixar resigning themselves to the sort-of "genre" that some people think they are. Makers of "what-if" movies, "what if [x thing] were alive?" "What if this thing you've heard of was actually like some world/factory/city?" And restraining the filmmakers from telling stories that meant a lot to them.

And yet... The recently-announced HOPPERS, directed by WE BEAR BEARS creator Daniel Chong, seems to contradicts those statements. Now you may be saying, "Obviously HOPPERS began development years ago, so it would be one of their last films in that vein." I know that. I know how these things work. It was in development as far back as 2020, when Chong returned to Pixar.

That being said, significant revisions could've been made thereafter, prior to the rollout at this year's D23.

But, from the looks of it, HOPPERS - which will be the studio's 30th feature, by the way - will follow in the footsteps of LUCA, TURNING RED, and ELEMENTAL. Stylistically, it's a lot different from the usual Pixar look. Apparently Lindsay Olivares, who was production/character designer on THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES at Sony, is all over this one. It looks very wacky and zoogy and cartoony, much more TURNING RED than TOY STORY and FINDING NEMO.

And the premise isn't "what if [x thing] were alive?" Maybe the beaver habitat will have some of that "it's like a city/factory" thing going on, but the main premise is rather out there. Basically AVATAR with beavers, a girl puts a part of her brain into a robo-beaver in order to be among them and ultimately save them from a threat. Chong will probably execute this in a way that's different and very cool.

Then you have ELIO, which had a dramatic director change, but thankfully a release date delay because of it. More time to shape things, and not rush it out under immense pressure. Domee Shi already has BAO and TURNING RED to her name, while Madeline Sharafian has BURROW. It's also worth noting that Adrian Molina, the film's original director, is still at Pixar and is already at work on another film. Sometimes, directors kicked off of their movies during John Lasseter's reign just straight up left the studio. Jan Pinkava, Brad Lewis, Brenda Chapman, to name a few. The latter had WORDS. Molina's still at Pixar, has a new project in the works, and seems to want to stay. It must've been an amicable split.

They both got this, and in the recent interview Pete Docter did for The Wrap, it seemed like they really wanted the movie going forward to emphasize the feeling of being a kid in a big, often scary and intimidating world. Albeit against the backdrop of a cosmic adventure. What he was talking about there was far removed from the corporate-speak talk in the other articles, which were quite cynical to be honest. The Bloomberg one in particular from a few months back, which whined about Pixar's more original movies and posited that SEQUELS would restore their magic... Hunk o' logic right there!

VFX veteran Todd Vaziri put it best, on twitter.

Couldn't have said it better myself... So, yeah, different Docter when Iger's gun isn't to his head, or the trades having him answer questions specifically.

Weirdly, INSIDE OUT 2... A sequel, and possibly on track to become the highest-grossing animated movie ever, was more creative to me than most of what came out of Disney - across all their film divisions - over the past couple of years. It could've just been a blah rehash of INSIDE OUT, but there were plenty of clever things here, and all the mixed media characters like Bloofy and Lance. Good stuff. It did not, however, restore Pixar's magic in my eyes. Maybe at the box office, but... I still feel TURNING RED is my favorite film to have gotten out of that studio in years, and I really dug SOUL and LUCA, and had great fun with LIGHTYEAR and ELEMENTAL. So yeah, none of that.

Pixar seems fine, really. They continue to do cool stuff, it seems Docter and crew understand that's the way. It's WDAS who I feel are struggling, but I digress. D23 reminded me that they've got some neat stuff coming.

Surely, the sequel announcements make it seem like that's the future... But really, if it were, the announcement of an INCREDIBLES 3 would've been followed by FINDING Somebody, CARS 4, WALL-E 2, ONWARD 2, etc.

In reality, I think INCREDIBLES 3 is a long way off. Brad Bird "developing" it tells me the film is in its Jack-Jack stages. TOY STORY 5 has had a concrete release date for some time and is full steam ahead, INCREDIBLES 3 is different. I'm sure there will be another original between the 2026 release of TOY STORY 5 and whenever INCREDIBLES 3 comes out, granted that it's not the studio's June 2027 picture. Which I kinda doubt it is, but we'll see.

Let's look at both decades...

The 2010s had seven sequels vs. only four originals.

This decade so far and including the announced upcoming films: Four sequels vs. seven originals. Subject to change, a few more originals and maybe one more sequel can sneak in there. But yeah, night and day difference. Pixar doing two pictures every other year allows them to get more originals out. I'm thinking they'll do a spring and summer 2028 thing like they did in 2022 and hope to do in 2026. (They had also planned that for 2020 and this year.) If so, I can imagine spring going to either Domee Shi's next or that project Adrian Molina is now working on, and summer going to INCREDIBLES 3. Meaning an original for summer 2027. KITBULL director Rosana Sullivan's movie, maybe?

I find it ever curious and frustrating that social media blew up over TOY STORY 5 and INCREDIBLES 3, but there was relative crickets on ELIO and HOPPERS... Complaining drives engagement, as does "TOY STORY" and "INCREDIBLES". Household names. ELIO, what's that? HOPPERS? I dunno. So, yeah.

Upcoming series: Ena

In September, the filming of Ena began, a biographical series that will focus on the life of Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, queen of Spain through her marriage to Alfonso XIII between May 31, 1906 and April 14, 1931, after being the monarchy deposed later by the proclamation of the Second Republic. Great-grandmother of the current king Philip VI of Spain, of whom she was godmother at his baptism. Throughout six chapters, the series will tell the life of Victoria Eugenie and at the same time offer a portrait of a time that changed the world, the first half of the 20th century, from 1905 to 1945. Born on October 24, 1887 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Ena was the daughter of Henry of Battenberg and Princess Beatrice, youngest daughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Her godmother was Eugenia de Montijo, empress consort of France as Napoleón III's wife. The name of the series comes from what her friends and family called her since she was little, Ena.

The fiction is based on the novel of the same name by Pilar Eyre. Javier Olivares, who was behind the acclaimed Isabel and El Ministerio del Tiempo, will be the showrunner and plot manager for Ena. In addition to Olivares, the script is written by Isa Sánchez, Daniel Corpas and Pablo Lara Toledo. The series will be directed entirely by women: Anaïs Pareto, director of the series as a whole, in addition to four episodes, and Estel Díaz, who will direct two episodes.

“Ena is the portrait of historical moments that seem distant but are not so far away, because without them we would not understand the times we live in now,” Olivares declares in the press release sent by TVE. The writer and screenwriter remembers that Victoria Eugenie “fought to be happy in a bitter time, in which she witnessed two world wars, a civil war and a great pandemic, the tortuously called Spanish flu.”

For Pilar Eyre, author of the novel, she was "an extraordinary woman: cultured, supportive, liberal-minded, modern and very loyal." And she is excited because "finally all Spaniards can know" the story of a "misunderstood" woman. in their time, which they will always consider foreign." It is a fiction co-produced by RTVE with Ena La Serie AIE, La Cometa TV and Zona App. José Pastor, director of Film and Fiction at RTVE, has pointed out that "it is a "RTVE is proud to be able to portray this interesting historical character, from the point of view of two women directors and with Javier Olivares as showrunner, in one of its best series."

The Spanish actress of Anglo-Danish descent Kimberly Tell will play Ena and Joan Amargós will play Alfonso XIII. For her part, Elvira Mínguez will play Maria Christina von Habsburg-Lothringen, mother of Alfonso XIII. The cast is completed by Lucía Guerrero (Beatrice of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha), Raúl Mérida (Alfonso of Orleans and Bourbon), Juan Gea (Álvaro Figueroa y Torres, Count of Romanones), María Morales (María del Carmen Angoloti y Mesa, Duchess of Victoria), Pedro Mari Sánchez (Rodrigo de Saavedra y Vinent, Marquis of Villalobar), Luisa Gavasa (Eugenia de Montijo) and Joaquín Notario (José de Saavedra y Salamanca, Marquis of Viana)

Mariano Peña will play Miguel Primo de Rivera; Jaume Madaula will play the anarchist Mateo Morral, author of the attack committed at the royal wedding; Tomás del Estal will be Emilio María de Torres y González-Arnáu, and Ángel Ruiz will once again give life to Federico García Lorca, a character he already played in El Ministerio del Tiempo, among others.

The series will be filmed entirely in natural exteriors and interiors, like the Royal Palace of Madrid, the Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso (Segovia), the Palace of Santoña (Madrid), the Palace of Fernán Núñez (Madrid), the Fort of San Francisco (Guadalajara) and the Magdalena Palace (Santander), built in 1911 by the City Council as a tribute to the monarchs and where Ena spent a good part of her summers in Spain, accompanied by the Royal Family. Filming for the series will continue until the end of December.

So, the Magdalena Palace is going to be an important location during the series as a summer palace, the main filming location in Gran Hotel, and in that series Ena appeared in the episode 3×13, played by Aída Filx.

Apart from that, are we getting an Olivaresverse (XD)? Most likely not, and it's just references about his previous works as a showrunner, but there are connections between Isabel, Emdt and Ena: Michelle Jenner starring Isabel as Isabella I of Castile, then appearing in a couple of scenes in Emdt episode 1×04 and being an important figure in the lore as the foundress of the ministry (& Eusebio Poncela playing as Cisneros in both series, and also he played Cisneros in the film La Corona Partida and the Carlos Rey Emperador series); Alfonso XIII is a descendant of Isabella I of Castile; Ángel Ruiz appeard as Lorca in Emdt in 4 episodes and now he is on Ena playing as Lorca again, we don't know yet how much screentime he will get or which will his role be (secondary character most likely), but it's great to see more about him!

Tianguis Turístico, es la casa del Tianguis Turístico que nació en 1975 y que hoy gracias a todas y todos ustedes, se sigue manteniendo en casa. Por eso estamos muy contentos, de poder recibirlos, que sean testigos de este gran renacimiento, que constaten el resultado de un esfuerzo sin precedentes entre el gobierno y la sociedad", expresó en su mensaje la jefa del Ejecutivo estatal. En el acto de inauguración, la mandataria estatal expresó su agradecimiento a los asistentes por su respaldo y confianza hacia Acapulco, pero también por la gran solidaridad que mostraron hacia este destino y sus habitantes luego del embate del huracán Otis hace poco más de cinco meses. En este contexto, la gobernadora dijo que estos logros en materia de reconstrucción y que han permitido que Acapulco esté de pie, son resultado de

un esfuerzo sin precedentes entre sociedad y gobierno, con un trabajo decidido en las distintas tareas de limpieza y rehabilitación. "Este Tianguis no es un Tianguis cualquiera, este es un Tianguis muy especial. Es un Tianguis emotivo, es un Tianguis de renacimiento, es un Tianguis en donde efectivamente lo podemos llamar el Tianguis del Ave Fénix, donde Acapulco renace de esas cenizas", añadió. Por ello, agradeció de manera especial al presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador, quien desde el primer momento apoyó al puerto y no lo ha soltado de su mano. "Muchas gracias presidente porque Acapulco no sería lo mismo sin esta generosidad, ese apoyo y esa solidaridad", enfatizó la mandataria.

Como parte del evento protocolario, se proyectó un video mensaje del presidente de México, quien expresó su deseo de que este evento sea todo un éxito. "Vamos adelante, porque Acapulco es un pueblo que merece un mejor destino", dijo. En su participación, el titular de Turismo federal Miguel Torruco, se unió a este reconocimiento al esfuerzo para lograr el renacimiento del puerto; a nombre del presidente de México inauguró de manera oficial la edición 48 del evento de turismo más importante de América Latina. "Viva Acapulco, que Acapulco ya está renaciendo, porque tiene a su gran población acapulqueña, siempre presente, quienes han ayudado a sacar en esta crisis y a ver de forma positiva para bien del turismo", sostuvo. The Minnesota Twins kicked off Grapefruit League action today against the Pirates on a beautiful day in Fort Myers. The Twins struck first in the second inning as Eddie Julien lined a one-out single to center. Willie Castro singled to left and a wild pitch moved up the runners. With two outs, Austin Martin plated a pair with a single to left and the Twins led by two after two frames. The Pirates would answer in the third with a Henry Davis two-out single to center. Canaan Smith-Njigba followed with a base hit to left and Edward Olivares plated a pair with a triple to center to tie the game at two. The Twins would get back to work in the sixth as Yoyner Fajardo lined a lead-off single to left. Alex Isola kept the inning alive with a base hit to center and Dalton Shuffield smacked a Kyle Nicolas offering out to right for a three-run homer. This put the Twins up 5-2 after six innings of play. Aaron Rozek came on in the seventh and walked the first two batters. Matt Frazier hit a run-scoring single to left and Dalton Shuffield gunned down Jack Branningan at the plate to end the inning. Pittsburgh pulled within two as we sang the seventh inning stretch. The Twins bullpen held up as Aaron Rozek had a much better eighth inning. Miguel Rodriguez had a clean ninth and the Twins picked up the win in the Grapefruit League opener.

-Final Thoughts- Louie Varland was decent in his spring debut. He threw two shutout innings and allowed three hits with two strikeouts. Justin Topa gave up two runs in the third with two strikeouts. Jorge Alcala put up a zero in the fourth, Jake Brigham had a scoreless fifth, and Daniel Duarte struck out two in the sixth. Aaron Rozek gave up a run and struck out three over two frames. Miguel Rodriguez had a scoreless ninth for the save. Willi Castro led the way with two hits on the day. The Twins hit 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Tomorrow, Bailey Ober faces Lucas Giolito as the Twins head across town to JetBlue Park.

El Contraalmirante Daniel Muñoz, informó sobre la emisión de un nuevo bando (el número 15) que prohíbe la circulación de estos vehículos en las zonas afectadas por el magaincendio que afectó a la Región de Valparaíso.

El bando número 15 indica:

PROHÍBESE a contar de esta fecha y hasta el miércoles 14 de febrero de 2024, desde las 05:00 y hasta las 17:00 horas, el ingreso de vehículos particulares en las zonas de afectación que a continuación se indican:
