The Dead Boy Detectives (and crew), have been occupying my thoughts the past few weeks. I’ve watched the show on repeat, rewatched Sandman, actually started reading the Sandman graphic novels (currently on Seasons of Mist, the introduction of the Dead Boys), and I’ve started drawing the episodes in the style of old teen detective novels.

I started these before getting super into behind the scenes details. I went down a bit of a rabbit-hole last night, and was delighted to learn that show-runner Steve Yockey wanted the show to be reminiscent of The Hardy Boys, one of the main influences of these covers.

The accuracy of their depictions varies, I don’t think they always really look like themselves. But I had a lot of fun.

I hope to continue designing these for a bit while the obsession holds, and maybe I can properly bring in purples, Crystal’s hero color.

a friend and follower of Sapo Peta, through him learning the ability to charm people into perceiving him differently (Biden) as well as perform minor shapeshifting (Valentina). This comes with the price of occasional possession by Sapo Peta himself (see JuanaFlippa trial)

has tattoos that mark this connection that glow whenever he exerts significant stress. can only otherwise be seen under blacklight (like in Las Casualonas!)

Max paints matching markings on Trump everytime they see each other to bless his son with protection. After Trump's death, he permanently marked his son's gravesite.

Actually he has a habit of doing this to things dear to him. He has debated placing said markings on SOFIA but decided against it just in case

he wears those beachy, vacation silk kimonos in his signature dark mint green color, alongside a matching bucket hat. under that is a sleeveless black swim suit with enchanting table embroidery

his wings are bird-like, black with a few iridescent feathers that glow red when he goes full angel. he's had carved emerald piercings placed on them for decoration and tribute to a friend long gone after getting clipped. if he cant properly fly for now, he might as well indulge a little

magical carved rubies are all over his person, shaped to resemble hardcore hearts. these glow when he fights or is about to do something powerful

Chayanne has one of these hardcore heart rubies and has incorporated it in his wear to match his papa

Both human. Do not separate!

Pac and Mike are soul-bonded but they forgot they about it upon coming onto the island. (they also forgot the magical perks that come with that) This doesn't negate their package-deal relationship in anyway

Experimentation in the QSMP Chume Labs has made them increasingly susseptible to Murphy's Law for some reason. The island itself is not helping either

Pac likes to dress up while Mike will literally pick up the nearest piece of clothing. On occasion they will swap clothes

Despite the above, Mike is usually in safety gear more often than Pac during labwork, especially after the sting of Richarlyson's first life loss

They both have a picture of Richas in their pockets to look at whenever they're at work

They have telepathic communication powers but only with each other. Sometimes they can be caught just staring at each other when they are really arguing in each other's heads

I have Come To A Decision about the Records.

So, after thinking about it, I've decided that I am going to make more Blue Butterfly Records for Carlo to collect, same as the original game mechanic. It makes the decision of which song to make as the time travel record much less stressful.

Whether or not that also means I make record designs for them though is going to depend on how entirely insane I am.

Any specific notes you’ve got on the thought process behind each student’s new uniform changes for the THH cast? And are you planning to do some for the SDR2 and V3 cast as well?

Note: Anon is referring to these designs!Hmm kinda! There are some choices I made more deliberately than others, although not many characters go as deep as the one note I had about Taka's design. But I'll happily go through the ones that I didn't!Mondo - I initially didn't have Mondo's blazer be embroidered, but considering it's such a stick-out feature of his canon design, it felt wrong not keeping it. Additionally, Mondo is a little bit scrawnier here, for lack of a better word, and that's deliberate! These are supposed to be the students at their first year of the academy, so I wanted to make Mondo seem a little younger!

Taka - I'm not gonna reiterate here so instead here's the post where I talk about him a lil. Lol.

Celeste - Girl is absolutely fighting for her LIFE with this uniform, and for what its worth she found a pretty good balance! The dress underneath is a JSK of her own design, and kinda meant to be reminiscent of earlier EGL styles. She is supposed to look a little bit "ITA", even. I also brought back the hair ribbons from her beta design, and the butterfly hairclip takes from the pattern on her tie in canon!

Chihiro - I have a couple notes on Chihiro! For starters I honestly wanted to make her look a little bit dorkier lol. I gave her the little headband and the glasses for that reason, but the glasses were also to make her match her Dad even more! I wanted to give her a massive backpack too so she always has a spot to keep her laptop and other equipment (yes she has it on her at all times). And finally I gave her a little sweater vest with a dandelion on it, since one of her favorite gifts is the everlasting dandelion! It's supposed to be embroidered on, heehee.

Sayaka - As much as I love her, Sayaka's design isn't actually all that deep? lol. I've always had an affinity for drawing Sayaka with cute little designer hats. i honestly think she has a few of them that she can whip out to give any look a little extra panache. Not to mention the constant inclusion of TONS of pink. I also gave her the flower hairclip from one of her beta designs!

Aoi - Hina is honestly one of my favorite designs in the roster! I just really like her silhouette, idk. I always knew she had to keep the shorts, so she gets the shorts!! Her typical tracksuit is around her waist instead, her eyes are a darker blue for the sake of my sanity, and her ponytail has a kinkier shape! My favorite little detail that I'm sure nobody noticed is that the thing tying her hair together is a coil scrunchie, since they're super good for wet hair in particular! I used to use them a lot back when I used to swim!

Sakura - Honestly, I just wanted Sakura to look at ordinary as humanly possible. She gets a really normal looking uniform- little to no modifications made aside from wearing her usual shoes, the armbands, the bandages, and the striped socks that I took from one of her beta designs!

Hifumi - Hifumi didn't really change all that much either, aside from getting the orange pants to match his orange tie! I do think he painted the arrow on himself, and it looks INCREDIBLY scuffed, lol. Honestly, my main priority with hifumi was to do him some actual justice on the anatomy side, lol. I hope I did an alright job!

Makoto - Makoto also doesn't really change all that much... Really, all that got altered was the blazer and the pants, although I will note that the pants are rolled up because he ABSOLUTELY ordered the wrong size by accident.

Kyoko - Going into this, LONG before I started drawing her I knew that Kyoko needed to have pants, even if it killed me. I just always thought that it'd better suit her usual design to have pants, or at LEAST a longer skirt. It always just looked kinda off to me that she had this big long sleeved blazer and then a short pleated skirt?? Like at least allow her the luxury of like. A pencil skirt. Lol.

Byakuya - Byakuya also doesn't really undergo much change. Really, all i have to say regarding him is that hes got a tall collared button-up and that he kept his usual necktie...

And that's everyone until I sit my ass down and draw the rest! I'm sure I'll eventually get to it... Possibly.

As for the other games, currently I have no plans to do anybody beyond the thh cast. I MIGHT do sdr2 at a far, FAR later date, but I don't think V3 will ever be on the table since quite frankly, I couldn't be assed. Sorry if you were hoping for them!

The Jon headcanons because I have been inspired by @chaotic-tired-bastard and @owlhari and my brain is going whirrrrrrrrrrrrr :]

-gives kisses to everyone platonically. in an older vid you can see him do this to Upgrade and I'd like to think it's one of his ways of showing affection

-love language is mostly physical touch and sometimes gift giving, he likes doodling and anything crafty/colorful

-this is one Owlhari brings up in their vid of the bots and disorders, but I also like to think The Jon has an extremely overactive and vast imagination, often imagining himself as the characters the band sings about and daydreaming in his freetime. these adventures can often be seen leaking into his songs and other mediums

-ADORES birds. no crazy reason either, he just thinks they're pretty and wishes he could fly like one. some of his favorites are robins, kingfishers, parakeets/parrots, doves, and bluejays, and if you catch him in a good mood he can be heard whistling like birds

-loves making all sorts of forts and structures out of the silly things in his room. his room is rather large and filled with curious objects and way too many pillows. he obviously takes advantage of this.

-will not go anywhere without the appropriate feather in his hat. he has one for every occasion, and I mean *every* occasion. he screams like he's naked if he's caught without a feather and will refuse to go anywhere if one is not chosen. he is very particular about them.

-kind of blunt with what he says. it's not really implied that he realizes this, but that means he'll be honest with you even if it comes with some brutal observations. he doesn't quite understand you're not supposed to do that because he was told honesty was part of being polite.

-while his siblings are much heavier than the average human, Jon is lighter due to the void in his chest. he uses this to his advantage as it means he can interact more physically with humans (with their say-so usually)

-his art/writing style is very scribbly and childlike, with lots of swirls and colors

-adores any warm colors (red, yellow, orange, bronze)

-constantly gets into shenanigans, especially with Rabbit and Hatchworth

-Upgrade is like a twin sister to him, whenever she's on a royal tyrant streak she'll always be merciful with Jon in return for some origami figurines

-one of Jon's favorite aesthetics is art-deco, much like how he was designed

-Jon's favorite era is the 1920's-50's, as he adores the fashion, colors, toys, and items from that time. he is also really good at swing dancing, and often likes to play old records just to practice it. a partner is always welcomed ;}

-loves learning about (preferably colorful) animals in books/documentaries made by like natgeo and such. loves trying to impersonate David Attenborough

-clumsy but in an endearing way (clumsy but in a /silly /pos way yk)

-absolutely melts at compliments, especially ones that revolve around the buzzwords "victorian" and "doll"

-when outside, Jon is the type of person (or thing,,,,,?) to make daisy chains/crowns, oogle at butterflies, make wishes on dandelions, and name literally every bird just by its chirp

-adores cartoons and/or anything animated, the only exception being the Marx Brothers' movies in which he idolizes Harpo Marx for being such a cartoony role model

-often finds it difficult to fully express how he feels, this can lead to over/under exaggeration, frustration, getting caught up on words or sentences, or taking conversation breaks to sort out his head

-his favorite story/animation is Alice in Wonderland in all of its iterations. loves playing the Mad Hatter if his siblings ever get around to acting the stories out in their freetime

-often feels like he's a burden because of how high maintenance/jumpy/bubbly he is. because of this he has a hard time opening up about things in fear that he'll just weigh someone down even more

-loves the occasional ponytail or wacky hairstyle. he finds it difficult to do the styles himself with his range and type of motion, but will gladly accept if a human/fellow walter worker is willing to help out

-sucker for good harmonies

-envies Rabbit's art, he likes all the shapely swoops and swirls it has

-definitely the naiive one of the bunch. often worries much more than he should about small things but has learned to tone that down a little in favor of being all upbeat and silly

First Question: 🕷️

N: She gets startled, but she's not super duper scared of the little robo-roaches and stuff. I always love them though, I help them get outside. If V's around though, she eats them.... I-I don't get mad at her for it, I just wish I can help the bugs live as well.

Blazer: We don't like the bugs... they are annoying... She's more scared of the spiders then me.. We usually kill them..

Bezel: She isn't a fan of bugs, but I love them! I usually get them outside.

Yellow Bomber: The big bugs are scary... She usually kills them for me.

Black Bomber: She sometimes gives them to me so I can add them to my little bug home.

Spud: Spud is used to bugs. Ev-even annoying, spud, annoying bugs are nice to spud. Lil's doesn't like bugs too much, at least if bugs bite her

Rodger: We like bugs a lot. We literally have a toon associate who's a butterfly.

Second Question: 🌹

N: Oh interesting! W-we sadly don't have flowers on Copper-9... you know, the freezing event that killed all life? But from what I remember as a worker drone, I think she would like and be like a dandelion. Both the yellow ones, and the ones that you make wishes on. I love how mystically they seemed like.

Blazer: Lotus flowers and Lily pads, EASILY. They are fucking big and gorgeous. And pretty pink, like her favorite color. So I guess she wouldn't be a field, she'd be a lake of those flowers?

Bezel: ugh I couldn't pick. Maybe a Sand Lily? I don't even really know flowers!

Yellow: ALL FLOWERS!!!

Black: Bro.

Yellow: ... I guess I could pick the forget-me-flowers.

Black: Same. The amazing flowers represent inspriation and she inpisres me to battle evil

Yellow: oh. I just thought the color of blue matched her clothes.

Black: heh, not wrong.

Spud: F-fire Lillies, spud.

Rodger: I like Venus fly traps for her. She is fascinated by them, so I associate them with her that way.

Third Question: 🖤 [I'm sorry but I have no knowledge of what kinda styles there are in the world, you're gonna have to settle with "clothing items?" basically?]

N: She always said I'd look nice in dresses and skirts. And yeah I like them too, I'm just still nervous to pick some out and wear them publicly... Her encouragement has been nice though...

Blazer: It's not really clothing but she really likes saying I might look nice with jewlery. I'm thinking about looking for some.

Bezel: She keeps suggesting getting me "casual clothes". I like my suits, I don't need these shorts and soft sweaters or whatever. .... I'll try them someday.

Yellow: She says I'd look nice in "Hawaiian shirts?" and I do like the designs of the shirts she's been showing me when we shop!

Black: Yeah I don't think she knows what "styles" are. She just shows us clothing's that may or may not match with her other suggestions. Though I think she normally gifts me, emo or punk things? I think that's the word for the style.

Spud: spud spud, spud and Lily don't know what styles are. but, spud, she got spud a sticker pack for spud's bucket. spud wears spud's bucket a lot so are, spud, stickers on bucket a style?

Rodger: It's not really a style at all she gets me, but she gets me patches a lot. I have a jacket that is covered in nothing but patches that she's gifted me. I need to wear it more, but I need my suit on for work.

Diary of a Junebug

Golden petals floating on the Dandelion Pond like stars in the night sky

There’s something about dandelions that feel whimsical and carefree. Maybe it’s because of the whole making a wish and blowing the petals away thing most of us did as kids. When the breeze hits just right, the sight of the seeds flying away looks almost magical. Simple things like that often leave an impression on a child’s imagination that sticks with us for a long time.

Even though I’m no longer a child, I still like to believe that wishing on a dandelion can help make things a little better. Wishful thinking does help in some cases, and maybe that’s what helps you get through a hurdle, or at least puts you in the mindset to be able to give you that mental push you need to move forward. Sort of like planting a seed in hopes that it’ll take root - at least, that’s how I see it.

We’re out on a retreat in a nice little place called Dandelion Pond with some friends. The place was recommended by Tianna, a friend of Mindy, Marlo, and Cheyenne from their college days. Isabelle had her eye on that place for a while after hearing good things about it from Leif, so it’s been on our list of places to visit. The only problem is the timing as the place tends to get booked quickly because everyone wants to enjoy the dandelions, and off season isn’t an option because it’s closed. Finally, after about three years of waiting, we finally have an opportunity to visit thanks to Tianna and Mindy.

The Dandelion Pond is obviously the centerpiece, though the charming little cabins shouldn’t be overlooked either. They give such a cozy cottagecore vibe, which is totally my thing, adding to the whimsy the dandelions bring. I’ve taken so many pics of the dandelions and architecture for journaling inspiration, especially anything with a lovely floral design that I can easily replicate by drawing.

I think I could easily spend an entire day looking at nothing but dandelions without getting bored. Seriously, I’ve never seen so many in one place! It looks so soft and peaceful that I wanted to lie down in the fields - though it would be awkward with all the dandelion seeds in the air. They look magical floating in the sky, not so much when they’re stuck all over your hair and clothes.

Along with just having a chill time, this get together also serves as a long overdue reunion for Mindy, Marlo, Cheyenne, Tianna, and Art, Tianna’s childhood friend. Turns out this is the first time the four of them met up together since graduation, so they have a lot of catching up to do. Kinda fitting for a reunion to take place in a dandelion field.

Mindy’s doing well now that she’s settled into a routine and just living life again. Her daughter’s enjoying school and making a lot of new friends - Mindy says she’s quite the social butterfly. Now that she’s on summer break, her schedule’s a bit more free, though not for long as she’s starting a new job next month, which she’s looking forward to. I remember her saying that she was a bit hesitant to go back into the fashion business, which was why she decided to go back to school to expand her opportunities in case she wanted a change, so her new job is sort of like testing the waters as it’s related to fashion design, though more of a freelance thing instead of a corporate one.

Cheyenne and Tianna just finished a show that ran for three weeks, so instead of heading back home right away, they decided to hang around the area and do some sightseeing. Then Tianna got a message from Art saying that he was in the area, saw her performance, and wanted to meet up since they haven’t seen each other in years. They both grew up in the same city, left for college, and never returned, though they keep in touch often. As for how long since they last saw each other in person, Tianna said Art was roughly the same height as her and now he’s over half a foot taller, which is still throwing her off because she used to babysit this guy.

Tianna’s got an interesting upbringing, which led to her having mixed feelings regarding her hometown as her father’s kinda famous over there. It’s not really a secret or scandal like some journalists make it out to be, more like a combination of many factors as to why he never acknowledged her to the public. The first reason is obviously privacy as he’s sort of a celebrity - the rags to riches entrepreneur type - while her mother didn’t want that kind of life for herself or their daughter. Second is that while he is her father, he’s not much of a parent in the sense that he’s still like a kid himself. Tianna and her mother long accepted that, so it’s not a big deal as some people make it out to be. She sees him as more of a fun uncle, someone who can be a blast to hang out with once in a while, but that’s about it.

The city Tianna and Art grew up in is Ravenstad, which is home for many successful entrepreneurs behind super fancy luxury brands. Tianna’s father is known as The Whimsical Chocolatier, and according to her and Art, he really is like a fairy tale character. Along with being known for his chocolate that’s bound to leave you spellbound, he is also a legit warlock with a flair for the dramatic. In other words, his stage persona and true self are one and the same, which is why Tianna considers him a big child who will never grow up. Fun to be around, but also static, unchanging, and superficial.

As for how the whole thing became public, it was thanks to one of her father’s business rivals, who happens to be her grandfather in an unexpected turn of events, which then resulted in another media storm - but that’s another story, one that Tianna doesn’t really care for. Basically, before coming to Ravenstad, her parents met in Marchweg, which used to be the center of the chocolatier world decades ago. Her father came there with big dreams, except things didn’t pan out the way he expected over there, especially when a certain businessman was threatened by his presence. Then he met Tianna’s mother, who was later revealed to be the rival’s illegitimate daughter he refused to acknowledge, and he swept her off her feet.

So they were young and in love, with nothing but dreams to carry them away. However, Tianna’s mother was more of a realist, so while she did initally get carried away with her lover’s idealism, she also knew when it was time to wake up and face the music. That wake up call happened when she became pregnant just went his dream was really starting to take off. As much as she loved him, she also knew that their relationship wasn’t gonna hold up, especially since his family would inevitably come last in his priorities. Tianna says her mother made the right decision to step away from his spotlight. And in the long run, she believes the distance between them is the reason why she has a fairly good relationship with her father without resentment.

In fact, one common thread between Tianna and Art - and Cheyenne and Mindy too - is having a parent who ultimately prioritizes themselves over their own kids. It sucks, but some people just aren’t meant to be parents in the same way some people refuse to grow up and learn from their mistakes.

In Art’s case, it’s his father who’s the problem, which is why they haven’t spoken to each other since he left Ravenstad. To sum it up, his father’s the type who throws temper tantrums when things don’t go his way, often taking it out on his son. As a result, he applied to schools overseas to get as far away from him as possible, to which his father made a rude remark about him becoming a foreigner. While he’s open to a reconciliation, he knows it’ll never happen. Besides, after Tianna and her mother left, he has no reason to stick around, not in a home where he always felt unwelcome in. No use dwelling over shit he can’t control nor was even his responsibility in the first place.

Art ended up getting a generous scholarship in Sunyong where he’s now studying for his master’s. As for why he’s here in Brightstable, it’s for a research project that just wrapped up. Along with that research project, he’s been so busy with classes and moving to a new place, so now with all that out of the way, he has his first break in months. And what better way to spend that free time than to reunite with an old friend?

If they hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known that this was the first time they’ve seen each other in over a decade. There’s something special about those kinds of friendships where you can almost pick up where you left off, even when decades have passed. Now that they know that they live a couple hours away from each other, they’re making plans to visit and hopefully hang out more regularly.

Seeing Tianna and Art has made Mindy nostalgic for simpler times when she was with her two best friends. I’ve heard many stories of their escapades and shenanigans they would get into, usually because of Mindy’s psychic powers. Like most childhood friends, they all drifted away to the point where they’re now basically strangers. Last she heard, though it’s been years since then, Lise’s running a farm and raising a family while Eddie’s somewhere in the music industry.

As much as she sometimes wishes to go back to those days when life was less complicated, she knows that they’re long gone and the only way to go is forward. She’s had it rough with an unhappy marriage, an unfulfilling job, and deteriorating relationships with parents - really, what kept her going was her daughter. Like with Tianna and her father, Mindy came to accept that her parents are not the kind of people she could always rely on when the going gets tough.

She doesn’t think they’re bad people, though she finds them frustrating, especially as she got older and realized that life isn’t as black and white. At least her dad’s willing to work things out, though Mindy complains that he can be unserious at times. She doesn’t think he’s being intentionally insensitive, more like he just doesn’t like dealing with the hard stuff, so he just simply ignores it. The fact that he has the luxury to do that without consequences makes it even more infuriating. Carefree, but in a really superficial way - the toxic positivity type. Yeah, not the most reliable to turn to when you need a shoulder to lean on.

Her mother is another story, and all Mindy will say is that communication’s a two way street, not that meme of that guy talking to a brick wall. She wants to work things out with her, but she can’t do that until her mom’s willing to sit down and listen, which is apparently a tall order for her.

I think most of us have times when we wish we could go back to when things were a lot simpler, when we had less clutter taking up our minds. I don’t necessarily mean childhood or adolescence, more like times when life was generally uncomplicated and you weren’t as bogged down by as many burdens or responsibilities. Maybe ignorance can be bliss in certain situations where we’re too young or naive to fully realize the ramifications of something. But in my experience, those kinds of people who prefer to live in blissful ignorance have basically stunted themselves, holding on to that foolish idea that as long as they don’t grow and change, life will stay simple and uncomplicated for them.

Instead of being a flat, one dimensional person, I’d rather be like a dandelion scattering its seeds to the wind. To set myself free and allow myself to grow and change for the better. To learn from my mistakes and experiences and impart my wisdom to those who need some guidance. Never underestimate the effect of making a wish on a dandelion - it won’t solve all your problems, but it can make you feel a little lighter.
