Official diagnosis is a 2nd degree MCL sprain. Need to wear a brace for 4 weeks and ice/ibuprofen for swelling. Gotta keep it moving with low impact so I’m still going to be teaching #Zumba classes with modifications!! I’ve worked too hard to get where I am to let this slow me down. #spintronix #zincon2020 #dance #danceteacher #dancer #zumbalove #meloconfirmo #danceinjury #kneeinjury #fitness #fitnessjourney #fitnessinstructor #zumbafitness #dancefitness (at Champs' Fitness) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8fXpHZFhhn/?igshid=e7mzx131yweo

This girl... despite her pain and the long months of physical therapy, was elated to step back into the dance studio today for the first time since December!! It was really just a warm up, and she was sore afterwards, and we talked a LOT about limits and modifications, but her smile says it all 🥰 #dance #fortheloveofdance #danceinjury #backinthestudio #smile #followyourdreams #followyourpassion #daughter #proudofyou (at Jeanie Moreland Dance Theatre) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2AZkGnnofr/?igshid=1r8p6vc3pxtks

Lauren Post, shown here as Moyna in “Giselle,” once caught her foot in the hem of her costume and tripped, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee. So, how can a dancer prevent these injuries from happening?

In the inspirational words of our national poet 😉, @taylorswift - 👯‍♀️. “Tonight we stand, get off our knees - Fight for what we’ve worked for all these years - And the battle was long, it’s the fight of our lives - But we’ll stand up champions tonight” - 🎶. Watching this girl work through her knee injury for 2 years and 8 months and never waiver from her determination to get up on pointe is a lesson to us all. When hard work and focus are in the mix, there is no stopping her. - 👯‍♀️. You’ve worked so hard for this, kiddo, and we couldn’t be more proud! This was one hard, unexpected lesson on perseverance. - 👯‍♀️. 🎶. 👯‍♀️. #setbacktocomeback #danceinjury #kneeinjury #dance #balletdancer #cecchettiballet #firsttimeonpointe #pointeclass #justlookathergo #nostoppinghernow #ballet (at Nevada Dance Academy) https://www.instagram.com/sophieriggsby/p/Bt9jhH_n9OW/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=agkavbyw39e0

#Repost @the_body_scientist • • • • • Back in the gym at it again. I have been dancing so much and most dancers think that dancing is enough but that is not true. Just like an any other #athlete if a dancer wants to prevent injuries and have a longer career then strength training is critical. #FitnessFacts #FitnessTips #DanceFitness #DanceInjuries #SportsScientist #ExercisePhysiologist #CSCS

Bad news. My kneecap dislocated during pole dance class yesterday. Recovery is 6-8 weeks. This means no ballet, skating, pole dance, or dancing at the club. This hasn’t happened in 5 years - this is the 7th time in total. I may or may not need surgery. I’m BIG sad. Dancing keeps me alive, literally. Send good vibes please. 😔 . . . . . #seattle #seattlewa #thecosmicaesthete #seattlelife #pnwlife #washingtonstate #visitseattle #pnwlove #seattle_igers #seattleliving #lifestylegoals #seattlewashington #downtownseattle #curiocityseattle #sleeplessinseattle #seattleinfluencer #seattleyoutuber #seattlevlogger #pnwmoods #seattlelifestyle #seattlefoodie #vsco #vscocam #danceinjury #dancerlife #dancelifestyle #dancelife #kneeinjury #poledance #ballet (at Seattle, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/Citk_L2L0Ff/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The start of my business may seem like any other but, in fact, it was the result of heartbreak and helplessness. I quickly realised, during the first few weeks of my second year at a top London dance school, that I would need to take time out from training after sustaining a foot injury in my first year. It was easily the hardest decision I have ever made. Packing up my much loved flat in London felt like torture. I left my friends, my work, my lifestyle, my dance training… Moving back home was like having a blank canvas in front of me and I honestly felt lost, so I focused my energy into another passion of mine: Painting and making quirky things.
I soon realised this was a great way to stay sane in an otherwise stressful and frustrating situation. No matter how bad my day was or how painful my foot was or how poorly my job hunt was going I knew I could sit at my desk and enjoy working on new designs and ideas.
After hours of this I realised I couldn’t possibly be the only one struggling for work. It was frustrating as hell! My mind worked, my body worked (mostly) and my creativity was overflowing.
I then realised that if I could build this into a business, then maybe, it would allow me to work for myself and to help others in similar situations. With enough interest, I may even need extra hands to help paint boxes or plait bunting. I could even give work and support to those less fortunate who may have difficulty sustaining or getting a ‘normal’ job during illness, injury or disability.
So I ask you this, if you want to buy a quirky gift or fancy supporting a local business this Christmas then please, please, please buy something from Dare The Limits store. This craft doesn’t just help me have a normal (as possible) life but it could potentially help so many people.
This work can be done anywhere, meaning people who are bedbound or housebound could work. Yep! They could have a sense of taking back control of their lives, of being part of something.
For people more mobile I hope to set up local studios so that they can equally become part of something not only social but creative and purposeful. To be able to choose their hours, contribute towards new products and help expand the business to then help more people.
Creative activities have been found to help relieve people's symptoms of mental illnesses such as depression, PTSD and anxiety. More people than ever are speaking up about their situations. Imagine if these people could use their therapy as work? Imagine if they could tailor it so that if they feel they can’t leave their house that day they can choose to work from home.
I’m aware this all sounds like a very big plan at a very small beginning, which it completely is, but I feel like the internet has done so many great things for people and I hope that helping me reach the people that are willing and able to support me in this venture could be one of them.
All ideas are welcome! I hope to have a full team to get this off the ground soon so it’d be amazing if you can share, like and/or comment , THANK YOU <3

Useful Links
Had a browse through the internet for some online resources on dance medicine, dance science and generally dance education and have found the following websites especially useful:
http://www.danceuk.org/
http://www.iadms.org/
https://www.dancescienceandsomatics.com/
Lots of informative articles available as pdf files, book recommendations, links to dance health organisations all over the world, the possibility to join networks of equalminded people and much more. I have spent my entire day on these websites and places they took me to; it is 4 pm and I am not even close to finished!
I’ve also ordered a bunch of books on dance conditioning, dance anatomy, training through imagery and on my ACL injury and how to rehabilitate it specifically. I’ll be making a post about these once they arrive!

Back to square one. Ballet failure.
I'm not sure how many of you are ballet dancers, but I am and I just need to vent. I was out for 6 weeks with a terrible ankle sprain. I was not allowed to dance or work on dance at home for 6 weeks! Needless to say, I was heartbroken. Ballet is how I cope. For the time I'm in class, there is NO ROOM for my mind to wander or stress. The only thing I deal with is my OCD sometimes. Well, tonight, I finally had the realization that I am not where I was 8 weeks ago. I'm 3 classes into being back and my teacher told me she knows what my rotation and turnout looks like and I'm not doing it. I was so mad. I almost exploded. I wasn't mad at her, I was mad at myself. I almost lost it. I did not cry during class. But I cried in front of her after class. I feel like a worthless baby. I am stronger than this. I almost want to quit ballet. Of course, there goes my black and white thinking. Either I'm good or I'm not. There is no in between. I need to find my physical and mental strength again and handle this. This was just a venting post, but thanks for listening. It's hard having BPD and being a ballet dancer. Perfection is all you ever see, and when you're not perfect, it's heartbreaking and you feel worthless.
