He Knows You're Alone (1980)
"Most people do, actually. I mean like to be scared, it's something primal, something basic. Horror movies and the roller coasters and the house of horror ride -"
"I wanna go on that next!"
"You can face death without any real fear of dying. It's safe. You can leave the movie or get off the ride with a vicarious thrill and the feeling that you just conquered death, one hell of a first class rush."

'National Lampoon's Vacation' Movie and 4K Review
The following review was written by Ultimate Rabbit correspondent, Tony Farinella. When it comes to comedy in films, I’m well aware of the fact it is subjective. In fact, film criticism as a whole is subjective, but I feel as though with comedy, it is especially subjective. What I find funny in film, you might find painfully stupid and vice versa. When it comes to the National Lampoon films…

2024 Fan Expo Boston - Day 2
This weekend was the 2024 Fan Expo Boston convention at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston from Fri. June 14 to Sun. June 16. Here at Green’s Party, I’ve been covering the convention! Read my coverage here.
On Saturday, I stopped by in the afternoon. Loads of cosplayers, gamers and fans were out in full force.
Some of the fun cosplayers out at Fan Expo Boston.
Actor Ethan Supplee has become quite a "that guy" actor over the years. He has become a big part of Kevin Smith's Viewaskewniverse appearing as Willam in Mallrats and a number of his other films. But he's also become a reliable character actor notably in American History X, The Wolf of Wall Street, and TV's My Name is Earl.
Suplee and Johnny Depp in Blow (2001)
I first met Mr. Supplee in 1998 at Kevin Smith's Vulgarthon in Red Bank, NJ where he was in attendance and signed an autograph. Later in 1998 I was an intern at Spanky Pictures, the production company of the late great Ted Demme. One of the films that was in development at the time was Blow and when that was released in 2001, Suplee played Johnny Depp's friend Tuna. I asked Mr. Suplee about working with Ted on that film. "He was a lot of fun. He was a very gregarious, sweet, kind man. When we went to Mexico he had dinner every night with the cast. It was cool. He was a good guy" he said.
ASL translator, Barron (in red), D'Angelo, Quaid, Chase and moderator Victor Dandridge
Among the attendees at this year's fest there was a reunion of the cast of National Lampoon's Vacation: Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Randy Quaid and Dana Barron. The 1983 comedy written by John Hughes and directed by Harold Ramis about family's road trip vacation has become a classic and it spawned several sequels (some good, some bad), but always highly quotable. All of the actors joined together for a conversation panel. Chase was kind of a wise guy (I wonder if he's leaning into his reputation) but they all had some fun stories. They talked a lot about improvising in the films, using cue cards, and the lasting impact of the franchise. There were some funny moments of them talking over each other too.
Watch for more of my coverage of Sunday's Fan Expo Boston!

Jamie Tahsin at Vice:
As the polls began to dramatically shift in favor of Donald Trump on the evening of the election, Elon Musk, arguably Trump’s biggest supporter in recent months, tweeted: “The cavalry has arrived. Men are voting in record numbers. They now realize everything is at stake.” The top reply came from the notorious influencer and accused rapist and human trafficker, Andrew Tate. His summary of the election: “It’s men vs gays n chicks.”
Tate’s political analysis had the tone of a 14-year-old playground bully, but Musk’s excitement at men turning out to vote spoke to something fundamentally true: that Donald Trump’s plan was working. When I first read the tweet, I began searching for evidence that men were indeed turning up in record numbers. On Musk’s platform, X, I was greeted with videos from Philadelphia and Miami of young men wearing red caps celebrating in the streets—pickup trucks tearing down street-lit highways with MAGA flags trailing from their cargo beds. After covering the Manosphere and the hyper-online ‘Bro’ Right for the past five years, I knew that in recent months they had mobilized like never before behind Trump, and that if they were motivated enough to actually go out and vote, Trump had a serious edge.
Videos began to spread of frat boys across the US declaring their support for Donald Trump. When his victory was announced, one group filmed themselves performing Trump’s dance moves to “Y.M.C.A.” on the steps of their fraternity.
Men aged 18-29—a group that has been politically unengaged in recent years—voted decisively for Trump. The Wall Street Journal reported a shift to the right of 28 points among this group. According to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning, 56 percent of young male voters opted for Trump in 2024—a marked increase from 41 percent in 2020. In Trump’s successful courtship of this cohort, his secret weapon appears to have been his 18-year-old son, Barron.
[...]
But Barron’s role in Trump’s media strategy goes beyond just introducing Trump to figures like Adin Ross. Barron and his best friend, fellow 18-year-old Bo Loudon, were tasked by the campaign with helping Trump reach a young male audience. Loudon is a pro-Trump influencer, and son of the conservative media personality Gina Loudon, former co-chair of Women for Trump. Bo and Barron reportedly set up the Adin Ross stream, and Bo has claimed he helped set up Trump’s interview with Joe Rogan, too.
On the day of the election, figures from across the vast and frequently depressing multiverse that is the online ‘Bro right’ gave their ringing endorsements of Donald Trump, and implored their fans to go and vote for him. Upon the announcement of his victory, John Shahidi of the Nelk Boys tweeted: “Idc what anyone says, podcasts helped us win this election.” When the Wall Street Journal reported that ‘Younger Men Voted Decisively for Donald Trump,’ Shahidi reposted it alongside the message, “Shout-out to our entire team!” A part of Trump’s message that particularly resonated with his young male audience, and the podcast hosts he made appearances with, was his seemingly favorable stance towards cryptocurrencies, and his puzzling claim that Bitcoin will be “made in the USA.” Earlier this year, in Austin, Texas, I interviewed an African-American man who told me he would vote Trump for the first time, almost entirely because of his stance towards crypto.
[...] The rise of influencers like Tate and Ross aren’t just a symptom of young men shifting to the right, but an active factor that has exacerbated it. The ideology gap is widening between young men and women, not just in America, but all over the world. In the UK there is a 25-point gap between the views of young men and women; in Germany, this rises to 30. The factors that have led us here are wide-ranging, but in making a concerted effort to reach out to disaffected young men, Trump gained an edge in what is being described as one of the most consequential elections in US history. We saw a similar effect in the UK during the last election, as young men shared their support for Nigel Farage and his Reform Party. Many of the complaints coming from young men may appear to be misguided. Yet if politicians on the Left do not find a way to reach out to this group, and engage with it where it dwells online, opportunist populists like Trump and Farage most certainly will. In this election, one of Trump’s strongest weapons appears to have been his gigantic, chronically online 18-year-old son, his best friend Bo, and the ‘Bros’ they swung for Trump.
What the hell is wrong with these misogynistic and privileged frat bro males who got Trump over the line?

NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION 4K RELEASE
Way back in 1983, the now classic comedy, Vacation was released. The story follows Clark W. Griswold (Chevy Chase) as he embarks on a roadtrip with his kids (Anthony Michael Hall, Dana Barron) and wife (Beverly D'Angelo) in the "Family Truckster" from Chicago to the L.A. amusement park Walley World. Along the way, the Griswolds encounter out-of-control cars, an ill-tempered dog, a beautiful model (Christie Brinkley), and hillbilly cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid). Imogene Coca, and John Candy also star as Harold Ramis directs from a script by John Hughes.
VIDEO QUALITY 📽️ : A
If you grew up anywhere during the 80s you probably have seen this hilarious film, and most have viewed it more than once. The great news is that the film has never visually looked any better than on the newly released 4K Blu-Ray. Everything from the beautiful scenery on the Griswold's road trip to the simplicity of their flesh tones look amazing. I own the 30th Anniversary Edition on Blu-Ray and the upscale to 4K is very noticeable.
youtube
AUDIO QUALITY 🔈 : C
There's not a whole lot to say about the audio other than it's contains the English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono (48kHz, 24-bit) with options of both French and Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 (192kbps). The dialogue sounds crisp and easy to understand. Sadly, the music, which consists of Lindsey Buckingham's "Holiday Road" does not include The Pointer Sisters' "I'm So Excited" (still being replaced by June Pointer's "Little Boy Sweet").
EXTRAS 📀 : C-
Except for the commentary (which includes the director, Harold Ramis; actors Chevy Chase, Randy Quaid, Anthony Michael Hall and Dana Barron; and Producer Matty Simmons) all the bonus features are only available streaming on the Movie Anywhere App. Each special feature has been available on previous releases. And although you're getting a digital copy of the film, which is nice, there is not a basic Blu-Ray copy included.
FINAL GRADE: B+
Although the bonus features are pretty much limited to streaming on the Movies Anywhere app, the newly released transfer of National Lampoon's Vacation is dazzling and should satisfy even the pickiest viewer. It's a legendary comedy presented on the best possible format, and you can't ask for too much more than that.
Available at Amazon. Direct link here.

He Knows You're Alone
One of the many films made in the wake of John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN (1978), Armand Mastroianni’s HE KNOWS YOU’RE ALONE (1980, TCM) may not be a horror masterpiece, but it deserves to be remembered as more than Tom Hanks’ film debut or the one with the girl’s head in the fishtank. Oddly, one thing critics complained about the most, the slow pace, allows for some interesting small-town atmosphere and discussions of women’s roles circa 1980. And contrary to complaints about the genre, only two of the film’s seven victims are done in while engaged in (gasp!) illicit sexual activity.
The film opens with a retread of the urban legend “the hook” that turns out to be a movie watched by a prospective bride and her best friend. The bride’s murder in a crowded theater as people scream at the on-screen horror brings in police detective Lewis Arlt, who identifies this as the latest in serial killer Tom Rolfing’s attacks on brides-to-be, which had started with Artlt’s fiancée. The killer then moves to Staten Island to stalk a young woman (Caitlin O’Heaney) two weeks away from marrying one man (James Carroll) after dumping another (Don Scardino). His attacks on those associated with O’Heaney attract Arlt’s attention, but he decides to keep quiet in hopes O’Heaney will lead him to the killer.
So, yes, there are plot holes. Knowing Rolfing has killed someone associated with O’Heaney rather than going straight for her, not his usual MO, Arlt’s not warning anybody seems rather irresponsible. When he finally starts pursuing the final girl in earnest, Rolfing hides somewhere he can’t possibly know she’ll turn up, sacrificing character logic to create a jump scare. And the film drags in places, particularly in Arlt’s scenes, which seem to be all about angst that leads nowhere (as a detective he’s about as effective as a fart in a mitten).
But there are also early scenes with O’Heaney and her friends that establish the atmosphere of a small town only linked to the outside world through highways and a bus line. The women also discuss what sex and marriage mean to them, with one (Patsy Pease) planning to seduce her psychology professor (James Rehorn) to get an “A,” another (Dana Barron) pining for a hot jogger (Hanks) and O’Heaney considering her fiancé’s request she drop out of college and eschew any kind of career. For those few moments, the film has a sense of reality lacking in a lot of the era’s slashers, and that’s no small thing. Add a very capable cast, with particularly good turns from Hanks and Scardino, and you have a film that’s at least diverting, which is also no small thing for the subgenre.
