“Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.
…But know that the Lord has set apart the godly man for Himself; The Lord hears when I call to Him. Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
Many are saying, “Who will show us any good?” Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O Lord! You have put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine abound. In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety.” ‭‭Psalm 4‬:‭1‬, ‭3‬-‭4‬, ‭6‬-‭8‬

For those reading the Psalms with me, we are reading 116 and 117 together today because of how short 117 is. We will be dividing 119 up over several days, I'll post about that tomorrow.

“I waited patiently for the LORD; And he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”

I have treasured Your word in my heart, So that I may not sin against You.
Psalm 119:11
How do I live a life pleasing in God's sight? How do I overcome sin that besets me?
The Psalmist treasured God's word in his heart. What did he do? According to Psalm 119, he longed for it, he delighted in God's word, he meditated on it, he rejoiced in His word and he took it to heart, treasured it in his heart. Why did he do all these things? He was constantly seeking to live a righteous life, and realised that only God's word could keep him away from sin.
He cried out to God for help. Let's make this our cry too.
Let's pray: Teach me, Lord, the way of Your decrees, that I may follow it to the end.
Give me understanding, so that I may keep Your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of Your commands, for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward Your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to Your word. (V-33-37) In Jesus' name, Amen

Matthew 7:24-25

And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock." (ESV)
1 Corinthians 3:11
"For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."

Come and make Psalm 143 your prayer for today
“Hear my prayer, O Lord, Give ear to my supplications! In Your faithfulness answer me, And in Your righteousness. Do not enter into judgment with Your servant, For in Your sight no one living is righteous. For the enemy has persecuted my soul; He has crushed my life to the ground; He has made me dwell in darkness, Like those who have long been dead. Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me; My heart within me is distressed. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands. I spread out my hands to You; My soul longs for You like a thirsty land. Selah Answer me speedily, O Lord; My spirit fails! Do not hide Your face from me, Lest I be like those who go down into the pit. Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, For I lift up my soul to You. Deliver me, O Lord, from my enemies; In You I take shelter. Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness. Revive me, O Lord, for Your name’s sake! For Your righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble. In Your mercy cut off my enemies, And destroy all those who afflict my soul; For I am Your servant.”

Isaiah 57:14-15 (NASB).14 “And it will be said, 'Build up, build up, prepare the way, Remove every obstacle out of the way of My people." 15 For thus says the high and exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Holy, 'I dwell on a high and holy place, And also with the contrite and lowly of spirit In order to revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of the contrite.'”
Psalm 55:22 (NLT). [22] “Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.”
“Prayer in the Believer’s Life” by In Touch Ministries:
“Spending time in communication with God is the best way to grow close to Him.”
“One of the most important disciplines in the life of a believer is prayer. It is the means by which we move into deep and cherished fellowship with God.
When we pray, we’re simply talking to the Lord and trusting that He will answer. In doing so, we learn to listen and wait for His response. And He loves for us to honor Him through this spiritual act of worship.
Indeed, prayer is one of the best ways to honor God. When we pray to our heavenly Father, we are acknowledging that He is God, “the high and exalted One who lives forever, whose name is Holy” (Isa. 57:15). God alone deserves glory, and we honor Him when we “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). That is, we are to maintain a God-focused attitude throughout the day—continually asking Him to govern every detail of our life.
In today’s passage, God says, “I dwell on a high and holy place, and also with the contrite and lowly of spirit” (v. 15). This means that our motives and the condition of our heart are very important in prayer.
The heavenly Father longs for an intimate relationship with His children. Time spent in communication with Him is the best way to develop that closeness.”

Quiet Time 1/26
Good morning! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted here because I’ve been doing a lot of my devotionals on paper but I wanted to share this psalm🙏🏼♥️
Psalm 121
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
This psalm resonated with me as I was listening to the Bible.
1st point: our help comes from the Lord! how encouraging is that? He is the one who aids us and watches over us constantly🫶
2nd point: He keeps us from all harm and watches over our life! That it’s not to say we won’t have hardships or suffering, no! It is clear in Gods word that we will suffer, but, He is here to watch over us!
I think back to just last night, I had a late night and I was driving home exhausted and with a headache. I was at a stop light that just turned green and hit accelerate with no thought, I braked though (to really no thought) and looked up just as a car was coming to me. It was a narrow miss. If God hadn’t been with me last night to protect me that would’ve been a head on collision. I thanked Him in shock bc of how much worse it could’ve been for me. Therefore:
PRACTICAL: in every instance (waking up in the morning, getting somewhere safely, having somewhere to end your day and sleep) THANK GOD! Thank Him! Because He kept you from harm and watched over you🙏🏼♥️

For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle;
In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;
He will lift me up on a rock.
And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me,
And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
Psalm ‭27‬:‭5‬-‭6‬

Psalm 37 is a great chapter, it's all about patience and trust.
Being persecuted by some people who want to see you hurt? You look around and see all the 'evil' people "succeeding" and being rewarded with all the "nice" things life has to offer? Meanwhile, you're there and have practically "nothing"?
God says that's not your problem, you have your focus and it's as simple as being patient and trusting that in the end, somehow, it'll work out. That's why his yoke is easy (Matthew 11:28-30).
Psalms 37:13, 34-36 NLT
[13] But the Lord just laughs, for he sees their day of judgment coming.
[34] Put your hope in the Lord. Travel steadily along his path. He will honor you by giving you the land. You will see the wicked destroyed. [35] I have seen wicked and ruthless people flourishing like a tree in its native soil. [36] But when I looked again, they were gone! Though I searched for them, I could not find them!
The word steadily really stood out to me here, it's definition is this:
in a regular and even manner, without change; continuously.
in a controlled or unwavering manner.
No matter what we're facing in this life, any trial or tribulation, any period of persecution, even if we're in a period of life where we're very much like Job who was stripped of everything, we are called to walk with him through it all steadily.
We are called to walk with him on a regular basis, continuously, without change in our faith based on our circumstances we are to walk with him in a controlled unwavering manner.
My dear brothers and sisters, no matter what we're facing in this life always remember to walk with him with a steadfast kind of love.
I love you my brothers and sisters, but always remember, there is no love like the love of Jesus Christ, Amen 🤍

If Your Law had not been my delight, Then I would have perished in my misery.
I will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have revived me. Psalm 119: 92-93
The Psalmist is in grave danger. The wicked are out to destroy him. (Verse 95) But his eyes are upon the Lord, recounting His faithfulness and power through many generations. He begins to delight in His Maker.
Choosing to delight in God might not be easy especially when things are not going well for us and we feel like giving up. That's when we need to focus on His word because God's word can revive us. You see, every circumstance you are facing today is under the feet of Jesus. He is well able to handle it. He is perfectly capable of sustaining us, if we will only let Him. If you are despondent or depressed, make a conscious effort to read the word of God, lay your burdens at His feet and He will strengthen you and help you to come out on the other side unscathed.
