DVD Easter Editions (High Resolution Scans from DVDcover)

Rise of the Guardians may have bombed in theaters but it made a LOT of money in DVD sales, in part thanks to the 2014 Easter and Christmas special editions, but in the following years it has been a constant grab and go movie for a lot of families looking to find something to watch for the kids.

The Original Easter release had the standard group pose with the Warren background, this was the most common ROTG cover for years with very little variation. The DVD, Blue-Ray, & Digital Copy came with a dust cover. All Digital downloads from the original holiday limited editions expired in 2015.

This collectible is usually found for $15 but can sell for as much as $30 near the Holidays.

New Easter covers were released by Universal Pictures in 2020

And 2022

Both versions have the 2018 Jack and Tooth cover on the case, only the slipcovers are unique.

So I spotted a familiar script at the local Used DVD Store™

As it would turn out, it's got EVERYTHING! The Matrix font, the mysterious front cover art, Keanu Reeves!

But I looked up the synopsis and was disappointed.

"The Watcher" will never be "The Matrix" for one simple reason.

Saturday night is movie night aboard HMS Gas, and I've got a corker this evening - "Body of Lies", a modern espionage thriller with a cool retro twist and directed by Ridley Scott. Leo gives his typically committed if slightly overwrought performance as the CIA's man on the ground while Crowe is dependably camp as the eye in the sky, and all the while Mark Strong quietly steals the show as the understated and terrifying Hani. "This is not torture, my dear... this is punishment".

If I'm allowed a moan, it's that I hate breaking into the film wrappers that DVDs come in - it's fiddly, usually requiring a kitchen knife, and the wretched stuff can't be recycled - but it should be worth it as I absolutely love this film. Even Holly also appears quite interested from her perch. Top tip: never buy your cat three expensive padded beds. Instead treat yourself to a Papa John's, get mithered by said cat for a slice of said pizza, then give her the empty box and she'll sleep on that while you weep at the thought of the money wasted on sending some crass twat in a cowboy hat into space and sadly coming back.
