What an interesting question.

The siren is looking more like 'himself' at the moment: blue-green skin and scales like his tail now cover his torso and arms. His teeth look much sharper. His eyes are glowing an acidic green as he peers at you from the water.

Pirates... a particular one comes to mind. He wonders if she's still mad that he killed her father.

"Poooor thiiiing," he soothes, his voice somehow even deeper than normal. "If they manage to escape such a fate... I would welcome them. With open arms."

"Not exactly what I meant, Papa," Meeka smiled, tamping down her nervousness rather viciously. If that damned hellhole taught her anything, it was how to control her emotions. Realising Bruce, she used the tip of her tail to trace letters in the clever boy's hand. Go get her, "Ama and her children come to parties like this too, right? That's what I meant by a big step. Would you be comfortable trying to be near them yet?"

Bruce hesitated looking around the corner with worry as she spoke.

Meanwhile Tsukuyomi was already turned heel to beat a hasty retreat to his room. He would never in his life knowingly endanger a child.

He was stopped in his tracks immediately as he too ran into a much smaller figure that looked up at him with surprised red eyes. "Ahhh..." the goat king let out awkwardly Soul starting to pound... but not burn. "F-Forgive me... Little one... I... did not... see you." he managed shakenly.

Frisk gave him a ready grin and a cheeky wink, throwing out the universal 'Ok' gesture, before waving and moving around Tsukuyomi to round the corner where Bruce was waiting.

The gunshot was thunderous in the quiet of the forest night. The man looked at Jon in surprise before slumping over to show the others the perfect red circle in his forehead. The other three hunters froze; the woman had waved the gun around and threatened them before but killing?

Jon held his side, clenching his teeth as the gun swung around to the three men. They raised their guns towards him but they weren't fast enough. Three successive shots rang out, three more bodies hitting the ground. Once he was sure they wouldn't get back up he staggered his way over to Elena.

The hunters had surprised them on their rounds of the property. Jon had been hit in the side and back while Elena took hits to her back and across her face. Whatever they had hit her face with had cut her around her eyes, temporarily blinding her. Jon had found her gun, tossed aside, while on he had been beaten on.

"Can I help?" He asked, kneeling beside Elena check her condition. "We're safe now."

It is good that the dwarf also likes to know him. It makes Junim’s feathers fluff up in excitement at the thought of having a new friend, and in fact he does think of this odd dwarf as a friend. Sure he hasn’t known him for long and he can’t say he even knows him that well, but he’s been so nice to the crow. At the very least he hasn’t tried to shoo him away or squawk at him, which is much of what he’s used to.

To hear that the fork is ahead of them makes him chitter rather happily, his head bobbing in a nod as he accepts that this is most likely where he speaks of. There’s not that many trees next to a fork in the road after all, is there?

“It is where I nest, yes. I have a rather nice nest and it is large enough for me and my siblings, but it also has a hole in the tree that holds lots of treasures. I like to collect shineys and fun things that two leggers leave alone. The best time to find treasures is when they do the nesting thing outdoors.” It was a funny thing for the crow to watch, and it always got him odds and ends when the silly two leggers left their stuff out and unattended. Thinking about it had him curious now.

“What is you’re nest like? Do you also share it?”

It's odd to think that crows and dwarfs could have something in common, especially something that makes up such a large part of what makes them them. What with the birds being...well, birds, living above ground, in the trees and in the sky, and dwarfs being so much better suited to being beneath the ground, hidden away in mountain tunnels, they seem so very different. In many ways, they are, but it's quite nice to know that they share an appreciation of shiny rocks.

"I am glad to know of you as well." Kili says brightly. There are those who think of ravens as nothing more than fussy messenger birds, and crows as nothing more than nuisances, not even useful in the same way as their larger relations. Kili, however, thinks of ravens as entertaining (if a little haughty) creatures, and crows as fun. Junim definitely reinforces that for him.

At the bird's question, Kili finds himself looking around, as if to check where they are. Although he knows, at least roughly, and his sense of direction above ground isn't half so bad as some, but it doesn't hurt to have a little look and make sure.

"It's ahead of us, if we're speaking of the same place. Not too far I don't think." He's curious now, wondering about the importance of that exact tree. "Is that where your nest is?"

I’m sacrificing Tank, because he’s on the brain and needs more of my love.

“I’ve never seen you like this before.” Tank said, trying to console me as we sat on the couch together.

“… I was hoping that you never would.” It was so hard to look him in the eyes.

He gives a playful scoff and a gentle smile. “Kinda hard to ignore when you seemed to just being getting worse for days.”

He pauses, seeming to trying a collect his own thoughts before speaking. I knew what he was going to ask, but I don’t think I was ever going to be ready for it.

“So, what is wrong? You can talk to me.”

I knew I could. I wanted to. However, it just never seemed like the right time or place, or I would just lose my nerves all together. Now though, it was just the two of us, in the privacy of the vacant living room. No distractions or pressing commitments.

It’s now or never.

Steeling my nerves, I look into his eyes for the first time this week.

“How do you feel about the queer community?”

500 notes - I finish Chapter 3 of my fic 'I See A Silhouette' before Saturday and get it put in for editing.

750 notes - I start Chapter 4 right after.

1000 - I buy new Good Omens t-shirt AND work on Chapter 5 to be finished by sometime next week.

I'm working on a big post breaking down my thoughts on episode 01 of The Penguin and I wanted to post this theme separately. There's only so many ways I can say the show is perfect and does perfect Penguin things but this theme merits it's own post, it is so good. I love how differently the show sounds compared to the movie, how that plays into the exact scene and moment where it stops being The Batman and becomes The Penguin. It follows similar ideas to past themes for Penguin in that sense of awkwardness and stress, these offbeat weird motifs stumbling over themselves, like the "lumbering oom-pah brass", as Daniel Schweiger described it, he had for TAS. The soundtrack for this episode in general sounds cartoonish and old-fashioned, that music sting that plays when Sofia Falcone indicates how she's onto Oz wouldn't be out of place in a silent film, and it's so perfect for Penguin. The whole song is really good but it's those first notes that bowled me over.

So perfect as a point of contrast with the way The Batman is scored, and specifically the theme that's associated with Batman himself. Batman's theme is that imposing, dramatic bell, those four notes that adapt and creep up and overtake their surroundings, the dark foreboding brass of it all. That's the motif that plays when Batman enters a room. For The Penguin? It's that DUUUUUUN-DUN!, it's the strings that play when he's either royally screwed or royally screwing someone, the pain and indignity that's either about to happen to him or he's about to inflict on someone else. Pure musical expression of "Aw fuck, not that guy right now / here comes the bastard".

It is simply sublime, that the first note of this Batman's theme tells you "oh shit, Batman's coming for you.", while the first note of this Penguin's theme, in turn, instantly tells you "Oh shit, sunavabitch did it AGAIN!".

Kyouko has been occupying Byakuya's mind lately, particularly the idea that she's his most favourable candidate for a spouse, or a long-term partner. She's intelligent, worldly, and independently capable. Obviously this revelation frightens him because it admits that Byakuya Togami is capable of feelings and sentiment and attachment to someone he supposedly dislikes.

It makes him agitated because of course he doesn't know how to handle a crush, and he becomes snippy to Kyouko when they should be working together. Kyouko catches on to this, and decides to just ask what's wrong to him outright.

Byakuya reacts badly of course, but he angrily confesses his overthinking and yearning for her as a spouse as an accusation towards her. He storms out in embarrassment, making a scene to all the survivors who saw it, but not heard what he said. To cover for them Kyouko tells the rest that she was trying to correct Byakuya's behaviour but the conversation turned personal and sour, avoiding the part of the topic of his confession.

Touko obviously whiteknights for Byakuya, spitting vitriol towards Kyouko, but those were ultimately empty threats.

When everyone seemingly moves on, Kyouko is caught by surprise by an aggressive Genocider Shou, who interrogates her for the real cause of Byakuya's outburst, feeling a sense of injustice was done to Byakuya from Touko's emotions.

Kyouko has trouble finding a solution to this predicament, since for all her knowledge and cunning Genocider Shou remains a true wildcard to her. She draws upon what she does know: Shou always prefers male victims, and Shou always ultimately defers to Byakuya's word, including commands not to kill. Kyouko decides to tell Shou the truth, that Byakuya is acting out of sorts because he had realized he's infatuated with Kyouko and had confessed that he considers her the most likely person he'll marry.

Shou reacts in hysterical laughter. She loved hearing that because she knew if Byakuya had ever caught real feelings he'd act embarrassingly pissant and petulant exactly as Kyouko described. It also gave her the ultimate proof to the Touko side that Touko was indeed unworthy of Byakuya's consideration, which strangely turns into a feedback loop of being pleased by the affirmation of her unworthiness.

Shou tells Kyouko that it was obvious and only natural Byakuya would ultimately fall for her, since she carries a lot of traits he admires in himself and it was only a matter of time he realized he'd drift to people similar to him. Shou, pleased by the turn of events, goes to bother and tease Byakuya about what she learned.

Before she can leave however, Kyouko catches Shou to promise them that she'll never tell the others, as she feels she hasn't processed Shou's evaluation of Byakuya's state of emotions yet.

Shou needs a good offer to keep her word, and rashly suggests a blood pact, until Kyouko offers her unconditional support and clearance of her past murders in future charges. Kyouko tries to bargain with sincerity, and Shou reacts unusually seriously. Shou seems to stand still, considering Kyouko's promise, and imperceptibly switches into Touko, who suddenly freaks out at being close to Kyouko. Touko does not remember the previous conversation, but feels some sense of closure and leaves in a huff.

With that out of the way Kyouko then goes to confront Byakuya.

"Yeah . . . that makes sense . . ." Monty rubbed the side of his jaw, looking at Juniper and wondering if he was crazy. "So, like . . . do you think she looks a little like me? I'm kind of freaking out here, but I swear she kinda looks like me when I was a baby. Like, from pics I've seen."

She shook her head "I've tried to narrow it down, but I feel like I slept with a lot of people back then. I never wanted to just pick someone, cause what if I was wrong?"
