I am definitely half asleep, which should tell you about the quality level of this post straight out the gate, but i was going through my old saves and watching the romance scenes for my different PTs (as one does) and like...

Everyone else has this slow build up to the Love end of things. Some of them don't even get there until Trespasser (looking @ you Dorian- yes yes he feels it but he doesn't say it.) And that's not a complaint! That's normal! You start with affection and attraction and see where it goes, and lbr all of the DA companions have some...Things to work through before nailing down Big Feelings.

And then we have Solas.

One kiss. One (1) singular kiss, and that man is gone. Lost. Sunk. Out to sea. Lost in the Sauce. Flung into the depths.

And I would argue that he's actually gone before that, but that's when he knows it. And he freaks out because 'oh no oh no this is literally the absolute WORST timing for this to happen holy SHIT.'

And he tries to fight it off, or figure out if there is some like...magical mark-induced reason for why he's absolutely banana-grahams for this mortal woman he has only known the tiniest fraction of his impossibly long life, but there isn't one except that he's lonely as fuck and her genuine awesomeness is just apparently the kryptonite to his rational thinking power.

This man, who is so so careful with the way he says everything always just... Once he caves, it is his first admission. In his native tongue, no less, as though he cannot help himself.

Back in ye olden fandom days, there was a whole bunch of fights about the sincerity of Solas' affections, since he 'lies' and dumps you, but like...things are a mess because this whole-ass man is a mess and he doesn't do anything that is NOT a mess, but just...fucking hell. He has loved her for so long. He doesn't strike me as love-at-first-sight kinda guy, but like I'm giving him like...a month at Haven tops before he's a goner.

Solas is the one who falls first and hardest out of all of them.

Hello!! I am so in love with the Veilguard companions already and I am 👀 very curious about your own opinions. Do you have an idea of what companion you would want to romance with your first character? Did you have a character that really stood out to you as a character you want to get to know better?

For Inquisition my immediate favourite character was Dorian for many a reason, but with Veilguard I'm less sure - from appearances alone I'm a little in love with Davrin and Bellara but I honestly find them all really interesting.

Oooh, bless your little SOUL for giving me a reason to rant!! Thank you for asking, I am blowing you many, many kisses and offering many an apology for the unfiltered thoughtstream below, lol.

As much as I've been yearning for a romanceable dwarf companion for a literal decade and a half, and as delighted as I am to see Harding most likely fill that niche (fingers, toes, and all crossable appendages crossed), I can't deny that I'm just.... immediately drawn to Davrin, to a degree I absolutely did not expect. Which is honestly not like me at all, but there is just something about the introduction, his voice, and the fact that he is (or seems to be) a genuine Grey Warden, from Weisshaupt (who probably knows the Warden-Commander!!!!), that just struck such a chord with me.

I've always loved the sheer dramatics of the Wardens: that sense that a happy ending is pretty much impossible for them, them being duty-bound and required to throw their lives at the threat in the event of a Blight regardless of their personal feelings, the constant ticking of the clock from the moment of their Joining that's counting down to their tragic deaths, the undercurrent of doom that they inherently carry just by being who they are, them being both the sickness and the cure at the same time, it just.... I love it.

Even if in the game there will be an opportunity to cure him of the Taint (which I'm guessing might happen, since it's been kind of a thread that's been following the story since Origins, and it sounds like a fitting story arc to give to the one Warden character guaranteed to show up), I think without knowing anything else, that already makes for a nice, solid base for a story, even a romance. And, him being described as a bold and charming monster hunter on top of that, that's just really, really appealing to me. He's got kind of a slight Wyll Ravengard, but there are a number of characters that fit that description that I really like (my partner's first thought was Xenk Yendar from Honor Among Thieves)- AND he's gonna share a voice actor with Javik from ME3, so I'm like, sold immediately. Like, listen to this man speak. Come on now.

...... This, of course, could be overwritten in a second- my immediate first impression is that the character I have planned (only in the vaguest of terms) might very reasonably fall for someone like that, but it's almost equally likely that any one of them will just bat their eyelashes at my girl, and she'll (I'll. lbr, I'll.) be a lost woman, lol.

There's honestly not a character in this lineup that I can't see myself getting very interested in. Davrin is a definite standout (god I hope we'll get to call him Dav), but Bellara is is kind of giving me a similar feeling as Peebee did when Andromeda was revealed, so I'm very curious as to how that'll work out (she's SO CUTE??? and described as a ROMANTIC????? HELLO??????), and Taash's vibe, I really like so far- especially her name. Like, I'm sure it's derived from "ataashi" (yknow, qunlat for dragon) and means something like "Glory" or "Greatness", but I'm very curious to see how she and these "Lords of Fortune" will play into the overall plot. I only vaguely recall them being mentioned in the netflix show (Absolution) which I've only seen once when it was released, so I'm flying totally blind on them, lol.

But also, a Mortalitasi companion is inherently just really cool, especially considering how little we know about Nevarra, Neve is the POV character in Streets of Minrathous (from Tevinter Nights) which I'll HAVE to reread but remember also being cool (upon a quick googling that's not the one Dorian shows up in, I got excited because I could have sworn and thought she'd know him then), and Lucanis is in The Wigmaker Job (same book) which I'll ALSO have to reread but ALSO remember being one of the stories I liked most in that book, and just.....

Head in my hands, they all sound so fun, every last one of them. I'm reading The Missing (the comic, I think the only one I've not read yet) in another tab literally right now, and I'm like bouncing in my seat over the buddy-cop back-and-forth between Harding and Varric. I don't remember being this giddy about a game release.... literally ever. The only comparable event was Andromeda for me (I didn't have time to be excited about Inquisition, I was still oblivious and playing DA2 for the first time when it came out), but even though I love both, deep in my heart of heats I'm so much more of a Dragon Age girlie than I am a Mass Effect fan.

..... For my Rook, I decided I think sometime around 2017-2018 or thereabouts that her name is going to be Verbena (like the plant, Ver for short), and I think she's going to be human warrior, or the closest thing to it, depending on how classes are gonna work- because as much as dwarves are my favorite, and as much as I think the trade relationships with dwarves that Tevinter have could play really interestingly into the story, I've learned my lesson from playing a Cadash, and I'm gonna go with a standard height race for my first run. (I don't wanna miss the action the first time around because of a slightly off camera angle and a misplaced table leg, lol.)

I've only thought of Ver in the vaguest of terms, no backstory, just vibes and associations (primarily based on the name), and kind of a voice, but I don't wanna plan too far ahead or too specifically on anything, I'm just very excited to just explore things as they come! ❤️❤️❤️

d&d wouldn’t be my system of choice to emulate dragon age. that said! wicked grace night turns into d&d night?

varric is, of course, both the dm and the instigator.

cassandra and cullen both show up with human paladins. they're predictable like that. lbr it takes cassandra a while to get comfortable with the whole roleplay thing but once she's got it (much later) varric can probably encourage her into something more out of the box.

josephine wants to play a face role, and goes for bard, one of the cute small or furry races. her character comes across as extremely innocent but has quite the devious streak.

leliana begs out of participating like "oh no I am much too busy with my important spy things I simply cannot commit" but tbh she feels kind of weird about cheating on the home game with another campaign. (the home game is, of course, a west marches-style hexcrawl that's been running out of vigil's keep for the past decade and has built up entire tomes of lore) varric badgers her into acting as the bbeg, giving her post-game updates on the party's actions and asking what she'd do in response. it's a big reveal when they meet leliana as the bbeg at the end of the campaign and she really hams it up.

vivienne plays a wizard and attains a level of system mastery that proves devastatingly effective.

iron bull crossplays, tbh, a great big strong sexy muscle lady. barbarian seems obvious but tbh I'd like to see him get creative with hexblade. either way, he's the main cause of most of the trouble the party gets into.

sera is the other main cause of most of the trouble the party gets into. varric indulges her with expanded crafting rules so she can play the grenade and trick-shot arrow build she wants. likely also a great big strong sexy muscle lady lbr.

dorian plays a tiefling because he's gay and they're fancy. maybe a warlock for that extended family disappointment vibe. playing a disaster tiefling is a babygay rite of passage tbh. just let it all out, dude.

cole plays a life cleric. he just wants to help. he highkey doesn't understand the concept of not metagaming but varric loves him anyway, even if he does occasionally reveal important campaign secrets at the most inopportune times.

blackwall plays a no fuss no muss fighter man who has absolutely no deep dark backstory secrets he's keeping hidden from the party, varric, so stop asking.

solas is. awful let's be honest. this is so much worse than the system he used to play 50000000 years ago. he also has a tendency to argue with the dm when things don't go how he planned and sulk when the party ignores his brilliant suggestions. he drops out of the game pretty quickly and it's for the best.

dagna (alchemist) and lace harding (ranger) join in later as his replacement.

hawke finds out about the game and excitedly breaks out their character sheet for their busted 3.5e epic level prestige-classed dragon disciple/whatever/whatever to join in and varric has to break it to them that he's running 5e now and the party is only like level 5. the good news is that varric has been using the characters from the kirkwall campaign as gods in this one and he's not going to pass up this opportunity for hawke's character to make a guest appearance. hawke spends quite a bit of time trying to cajole the party into worshipping them and very nearly succeeds in cassandra's case.

- Dorian being Mr tevinter isn't always too keen on picking up the habits of those around him- aka he haates the idea of having to pee anywhere that isn't a proper washroom, god knows what's in the woods or who could sneak up behind and back stab.

- Josephine being that of nobility, would also have a bit of a tricky time adjusting to these new customs, she's a bit shy/reserved about her pee needs and would rather not bring that to attention of anyone around her

- Cole, if choosing to become more human than spirt has a hellla hard time with that whole human's have functions. Varric basically has to remind him to pee in the beginnings bc/ Cole will just straight up not realize that what he drinks eventually needs to leave his system xD

- Iron Bull, mans has the bladder of a damn bull and probably loves literal pissing competitions lbr

I was asked this on my old blog right as I set about transitioning to this one, so...

The first character I ever fell in love with: for DA:O, dare I say Daveth? What can I say -- I irrationally got incredibly attached to him. otherwise, DEFINITELY Morrigan, and I have crystal clear memories of my first run through Lothering and looking at Morrigan like 😍 the whole time. For DA:2/E, Carver -- unless you count Anders & Justice since I knew of them from Awakening beforehand, in which case probably Justice. For DA:I, it’s a toss-up between Vivienne or Cole -- I technically liked Cole first but SPECIFICALLY in the supporting material (Asunder), and didn’t vibe with him anywhere near as much in the game, AND I got him as a companion after I got Vivienne, so probably Vivienne.

A character that I used to love/like, but now do not: for DA:O, I guess Oghren? I never loved him, but I liked the idea of him because I really liked the dwarves/Orzammar side of DA’s worldbuilding -- but he’s such an unlikeable character that I just.. don’t vibe with him at all. I debate recruiting him every single time now, and I don’t think I ever do his personal quest (in the base game OR Awakening). for DA:2/E, I don’t really have anyone that fits -- but I REALLY wanted to like Merrill and Aveline more than I did, and especially in Aveline’s case, I can’t stand her and genuinely think she’s the unintended, secret Big Bad of the whole game. for DA:I, probably Cole, bc I was really into the idea of a little walking-corpse serial killer animated by a spirit as per the book, but that’s not really the vibe in DA:I, and combined with the somewhat patronising/ableist language and how significantly he is infantilised (including by the fandom) I just got put off him. I do still like him, but not as much.

A ship that I used to love/like, but now do not: for DA:O, I don’t really have one? I guess see my DA:I answer, lol... for DA:2/E, has to be Anders - I don’t think he’s OOC in 2, but I think his writing does so little with him and he feels v. reductive. Where his relationship could be SO interesting and angsty, it instead is written in a really dull and/or cringey way. It would have been nice to see Anders more like the Anders of Awakening near the beginning of the game (rather than random, infrequent and questionably rare snippets), and then see the progression of his relationship with Justice as the game went on -- I want more interesting abominations, PLEASE. for DA:I, listen I cannot express to you HOW EXCITED I was for my planned Lavellan to romance Sera… also I used to be way more tolerant of Cullen x Amell/Surana ships because, like, hey dark ships are fun, right? But since Cullen’s ~wholesome whitewash~ in DA:I, and his fandom clamouring to absolve him of any wrongdoing ever.. it’s boring to me.

My ultimate favourite character™: for DA:O, probably Sten? or Morrigan. They’re both fantastic, and also are significant comfort chars for me. for DA:2/3, honestly, probably my own Hawke -- I feel so hugely proud of her, and can’t imagine I’d enjoy the game anywhere near as much had I not played it as my Hawke. If not her, maybe Sebastian or Carver? for DA:I, I really love Vivienne, as well as Blackwall, and Solas is a great character even if I probably would not say I liked him.

Prettiest character: for DA:O, we all know it’s Zevran. for DA:2/E, I think Aveline -- although her aggressively bland colour-scheme lets her down in a major way (although I respect her dedication to all orange all day every day). There’s just something about her arms -- very Abby from TLOU:2. for DA:I, maybe Josephine? Ser Barris is very pretty, too...

My most hated character: for DA:O, I really didn’t like Alistair, Wynne and Oghren, and of my companions - Oghren is probably my least favourite. He’s vulgar and also profoundly uninteresting. for DA:2/E, it has to be Aveline. There’s just something about ineptitude and a complete, wilful refusal to take accountability for your actions that I can’t stand. It would be okay if it was an intentional character flaw, but the game/narrative treats her like she’s lawful good and it really annoys me. for DA:I, maybe Iron Bull? He was a huge disappointment for me. I also really dislike Sera, Cassandra, and Varric. I’m so sick of Varric - I never want to see him again.

My OTP: for DA:O, I really loved Zevran’s romance -- but I am also very amused by the fact that Leliana got to ‘love’ status with Kallian accidentally, AND I got the ‘love’ glitch for Justice (👀) and Velanna. I do sometimes wonder about an AU where Kallian is forced to make a politically expedient marriage with Nathaniel Howe for diplomatic reasons in order to consolidate her position as Arlessa, and it being an entirely platonic arrangement (it’s not like anyone expects an heir from an infertile Grey Warden) -- and maybe Zev and Nate kiss sometimes, who knows? I also LOVE my Darkspawn Chronicles AU where Kallian and Nelaros are a happy, married couple each hiding their skills with weapons from each other like dumb, cute sweethearts. They shelter Zevran when he fails to kill Alistair and a poly couple evolves. for DA:2/E, I love the IDEA of a Seb romance that isn’t so strictly conditional around the structures that abused him -- he should be allowed to love, chastely or otherwise, but free from the Chantry OR his position as prince/heir. I’d LOVE to actually have a romance with him where you can actually challenge the abuse he’s experienced. for DA:I, Malika doesn’t have a canon romance (although I think when I replay, I’m going to romance Josephine!) but I think Blackwall has an amazing romance. Solas’ is also iconic, it must be said. 

My NOTP: for DA:O, I really dislike Alistair in a shipping capacity; he’s immature and says a lot of misogynistic shit and I don’t think he’s the worst for it, but I don’t really vibe with shipping him, having played the game as a female city elf. for DA:2/E, I wouldn’t say I have one, particularly? although I really dislike Aveline’s relationship with her husband simply because it seems incredibly inappropriate, given that they work together and she has power over him -- and because I dislike her, generally, I don’t feel inclined to do something nice for her. for DA:I, I suppose Sera/Lavellan -- although I’m not AGAINST it, it just really isn’t for me, having attempted it. I also don’t really vibe with Dorian x Iron Bull. Something abt the way the game handled BDSM and their relationship banter specifically I don’t really like.

Favourite episode quest: for DA:O, probs Orzammar/the Deep Roads. I really love the dwarven lore! and, of course, Fort Drakon is really funny, even though it’s not canon in my game iirc. for DA:2/E, maybe the murder mystery with the serial killer, where ultimately Leandra dies? I also really enjoyed all the companion quests. for DA:I, The Descent (just, all of it, lmao) and everything to do with the Avvar. Crestwood also BANGED.

Saddest death: for DA:O, it’s frankly a fucking INJUSTICE that Shianni gets murdered if you make her Bann of the Alienage -- the idea of that happening whilst Kallian is in Amaranthine and unable to protect her :( genuinely very upsetting. I go back and forth on who is made Bann, tbf, so idk how canonical it is: I think maybe Cyrion would get it, but I’m also endeared to Soris holding the position, with Shianni as Hahren. for DA:2/E, Bethany. I wish both twins had had the chance to reach Kirkwall :(. Let Leandra die instead. for DA:I, maybe not the saddest death, but the most memorable for me was that one sleeping dragon in the Hissing Wastes.. leave her alone. Stay out of a womans’ business.

Favourite season game: DA:O!

Character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but I hate: for DA:O, Alistair. I cannot deal with his complacency and hypocrisy. for DA:2, I really disliked Merrill but I honestly cannot remember why. DEFINITELY Varric -- I hated how the game forces you to be his best friend, and if you’re low approval, you have to endure these pointless pissy little comments with this little anti-dwarf centrist pissant. After the expedition, I literally have no reason to put up with him, and I NEVER take him out. I hate that he plays the same role in DA:I, too. for DA:I, the Iron Bull was hugely disappointing, and I also really don’t vibe with Cassandra. She just seems very wishy-washy and complacent and hypocritical, and many of her comments about other cultures seem snide for literally no reason other than bigotry. 

My ‘you’re a piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: for DA:O, lbr probably Sten. Mans is gonna launch a HORRIFYING invasion in the next game iirc and frankly, I’m ok with it. Just wanna see that big bastard again ❤🥵. for DA:2/E, I LOVE Gamlen, ok? for DA:I, I am not sure if I have one.

My ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: for DA:O, if any of you so much as LOOK at Velanna wrong, it’s hands. That includes Bioware. I also feel incredibly protective of and sad for Morrigan. for DA:2/E, probably Sebastian -- I feel so sad for him, and so frustrated by the limitations with the game. for DA:I, I’m honestly not sure.. maybe Josephine? I don’t really feel this way about Sera, but I do think she deserves better from the game and its writing, and also from fandom: there are valid criticisms of her, but the hate she gets is not proportional to any valid issues with her -- and gee, I wonder why that is.

My ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: for DA:O, I did use to find Cullen x Surana/Amell intriguing as a dark ship -- I actually hc that Neria Surana is actually Nelaros’ sister, and have dabbled with it as a dark ship. I also am interested in Loghain/Alistair - which each pretends the other is someone else. Alistair is wooby, hate ships are, in general, fun -- so long as we acknowledge that they are, indeed, unhealthy ships. for DA:2/E, I kind of feel like Sebastian romances are, invariably, kind of dark... and, similarly, Anders romances -- especially with certain red Hawkes, The way it ends is, invariably, bordering on fucked up. ALSO Hawkecest is weird and wonderful: GET WITH IT. 

My ‘they’re kind of cute, and I lowkey ship them, but I’m not too invested’ ship: for DA:O, I joked about Velanna x Leliana once and I’ve not been able to stop thinking about it ever since… Velanna x Sigrun is also something that can be so personal. Ariane x Finn is adorable and are paid DUST by Bioware AND fandom. I actually am really into Anora x Nathaniel & NO I will NOT explain myself; it���s a crackship but it’s MY crackship. for DA:2/E, Isabela x Fenris is super cute, but I don’t pay enough attention to them to really have super committed thoughts & feelings on them. for DA:I, Blackwall x Josephine is cute as a background ship; I also think Maryden x Cole is sweet.

in fits and starts, is probably the best way to sum it up. this is of course all very dependent on whether Jack is sleeping alone or with company ( naturally he sleeps better with somebody else ), but he’s a bit of an insomniac and is very much a night owl as opposed to an early riser. he’s more likely to be awake until very late and then sleep through most of the morning and so in a professional capacity as captain will tend to take on late watches rather than early starts. when he does actually sleep? he will either sleep on his back or on his side, and either in a light sleep which means he’s very easily awoken ( lingering hypervigilance from the mutiny ), or essentially the sleep of the dead lmao, there’s not much in between. he also occasionally talks in his sleep -- most of the time he’s completely unintelligible but sometimes you might be able to pick out words and phrases. getting his mind to shut up long enough to let him sleep is a constant struggle of his.

sea shanty noises intensify. in modern it’s a real eclectic mix of 60s/70s rock, 80s new romanticism and your over-the-top power ballad, and some nonsense pop too. his modern playlist is honestly such a joy for me to listen to because it contains a real range of genres and styles lmao.

i want to say not a lot of time but that’s an absolute lie, he has a morning Routine lbr. but the extent to which he goes about putting together all of the careful jigsaw pieces that make up the puzzle that is Captain Jack Sparrow does vary: on a typical day at sea on the Black Pearl he would likely keep to the bare minimum of effects. there are two things that will go everywhere with him, however, and that’s his bandana and his pistol.

anything with sentimental merit. despite being someone who’s not very openly feeling or romantic in any way, Jack has a hidden sentimental streak and will acquire and keep ( in many cases for years ) things that hold some kind of personal value to him or were gifted to him by someone he cares about, even if to a stranger’s eye they are completely worthless. it’s a wonderful visual metaphor for how Jack very rarely takes people at face value or actively dismisses them once they’ve gotten his attention.

𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝? 

technically right handed, but he can confidently wield a sword and pistol in his left hand if required.

𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧?

this is complicated because Jack is certainly not religious, but he has also seen enough in his life ( both in the canon presence of multiple gods in the potc universe and in his exposure to other religions around the world ) to be polytheist and acknowledge that multiple gods exist and that he would like nothing much to do with any of them ( while still respecting those who do, an important thing to point out ). at the same time, however, five years masquerading as someone who wasn’t brought up in a melting pot pirate haven and was trying to advance in the English merchant service, and having a best friend in Robby Greene during that time taught him to affiliate himself with protestantism when asked. despite some complicated feelings of identity he has ( being a pirate = a man of no nation vs. being a begrudging subject of the British Crown and therefore beholden to it if/when he is ever caught ) and the fact he once impersonated one of its clerics, that would theoretically be his go-to, but it’s not really something he ever thinks about.

𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭? 

sailing and swimming are sports, right? they are also two hobbies that transfer over to his modern verse too. aside from those two, he’s not hugely into sport for the most part. even with football, which is a way of life over here in the UK and the fact that both his age and cultural background mean he would know a lot of ardent football supporters in his life ( nights with the modern black pearl crew watching football on telly while drinking beer are a thing, let’s be honest ), he’s not hugely into it --- but knows enough that if he ever had a reason to care about it he would surprise himself with his learned-via-osmosis knowledge.

𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠? 

Jack’s not really the tourist type, he’d much prefer to throw himself into a country and culture headfirst, and certainly in his modern verse would rather go off the beaten track, as it were. I suppost the most tourist-y thing he’s guilty of is his fondness for souvenirs of his travels and adventures.

storms. they’re definitely not the most practical type of weather, particularly at sea, and a warm sunny day with a strong tailwind is also very welcome, but there’s something deeply appealing to him about watching the sky scream.

11. Who or what do you find yourself writing about most?

As far as who, lbr, I write so much about Cullen. I just have so many head canons and have projected on him… so much. Even in like… roleplay/collaborative writing/etc types of things, I tend to take over for his voice. But in general, I find myself writing for a lot of once/currently broken characters who… maybe don’t have the best past, but are trying to do better. And I think that shows in what I write about too.

12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.

Maybe this is cheating but I have two WIPs I’m jazzed about and they’re both entirely indulgent, though one in particular is like... I think I’m basically writing it For Me since it features an OC as the main character haha.

One is the Cullrian western AU which... isn’t at the forefront of my queue of WIPs I’m working on, but I’m so fond of it. We’ve got Cullen, a deputy under Sheriff Lavellan in the town of Haven, and new in town, a little mysterious a little shady Dorian who’s part of this group that came down from the north with an interest in a mine outside of town for equally mysterious and shady reasons. It’s a ‘there’s still magic’ AU, but the practice of magic is punishable by imprisonment or death in the south. Cullen and Dorian kind of clash in the beginning, Cullen’s no nonsense attitude going against Dorian’s outlaw vibes, and once things start to be going good it gets complicated all over again once Cullen learns two things: Dorian is a wanted man, and he can use magic. 

The other one that I keep just blocking out scenes in my head for is the skyrim fic I’ve mentioned here before featuring my messy but well meaning wood elf Faenrir LastNamePending. But it starts with him leaving Valenwood, angry as a wet cat over a crime he was set up for (which… he does do a lot of crime… but this time he didn’t lmao) and which no one believes he wasn’t responsible for, and swearing revenge on the person he loved and trusted who tried to pin it on him. So it’s him going from bitter and dejected and lost to establishing that love doesn’t have to be conditional, but it’s a hard road to get there full of Fae running from every problem that crops up (which… since he falls in with the skyrim thieves guild, there’s a lot of trouble. Plus his past getting dragged up to the present when the ass who framed him shows back up wanting his help).

13. First fandom you ever wrote for?

Harry Potter lmao. I wrote two chapters of a fic that honestly... I don’t know if it had a plot. I was just 12 and obsessed. Then I was 13 and obsessed with Naruto, and that fic fared a little better/longer 😂 (then I didn’t write any fic again til I was 26)

It's amazing how much of the claim that "Adoribull is abusive" comes from people who hate that Bull has explicitly set sexual boundaries as a man who is, as a rule, larger and stronger than his sexual partners, who has a long history with sexual congress that has allowed him to understand how not to hurt his partners but only through very careful control over the situation.

"You can't start a relationship with him if you don't follow his rules and that's abusive" no buddy, demanding he put away rules in something as important as safety and consent in sex when his actual canon greatest fear is madness, and he needs to maintain a sense of control in something as vulnerable as sex, is abusive.

Immediately assuming the worst of Bull because of a line where he and Dorian had sex "after drinking" and interpreting it as only Dorian bring drunk as opposed to neither or both of them being drunk is actually disturbing.

For the fandom thing: TVD? (Feel free to stick to the series itself or include the rest of the 'verse, its up to you!)

It’s probably best if I only do TVD, otherwise this could get long xD

the character I least understand: this question is always a rocky start because I do pride myself on understanding characters lmfao, so I often don’t know what to say... I’m going to go with Elena, I think, because although hers is a mentality I understand well and interpret accordingly (I... kind of grew up alongside a few Elenas lmfao), it’s not one I can find myself sharing.

interactions I enjoyed the most: anything Caroline-centric goes first, lbr. But I’ve rewatched a few random episodes and I have to say, I didn’t appreciate Caroline-Elena as much as I should’ve the first time around. I feel that if I did another rewatch now, I think I’d enjoy their relationship a lot more.

the character who scares me the most: Stefan at his peak was TERRIFYING OMFG. That man could manipulate anyone into anything. And then eat them. Not to mention he could compartimentalize like a pro. And there’s the whole “being able to let the love of your life DIE because it was more important to still come across as The Good Brother”. Who fuckign does that!!! COLD, SCARY-ASS PEOPLE, THAT’S WHO.

the character who is mostly like me: although there are key moments and traits I relate a lot to in quite a few characters, I’ve never really felt this with anyone in TVD. I think the closest was Dorian’s tirade to Stefan about how the “poor Stefan” thing was bullshit lmfao. “All your friends keep talking about poor, self-hating Stefan. Like getting to live is the biggest torture of all! You know what’s worse that getting to live with all that guilt? Surviving murder! You know what’s worse than surviving? Being murdered!!” Like. Did I ghost-write that somehow... ?

hottest looks character: Bonnie Bennett, especially in season seven. GODDAMN.

one thing I dislike about my fave character: I mean, I wasn’t a fan of the period of time where Caroline’s go-to was slut-shaming other women but like... I get it given her history (and it always, always pings me the fact that it was over once she fucked Klaus... one day I have to make a post about all that plot regarding Delena vs. Caroline vs. KC because it was supremely interesting).

one thing I like about my hated character: Matt grew to be Caroline’s errand boy AND prioritized honoring Caroline’s mother’s legacy,and I think that’s very, very funny. In a less tongue-in-cheek way, he had some good moments with Bonnie where I could stand him.

a quote or scene that haunts me: I will never, ever be over, “Caroline, it’s not a competition.” “... Yeah, it is”.

a death that left me indifferent: I did tend to care about the deaths of this show, one way or another, except for some red shirt exceptions a la that guy Anna was using in season one lol.

a character I wish died but didn’t: MATT FREAKING DONOVAN.

my ship that never sailed: that’d be Bonnie/Kai, obviously. OTOH I feel compelled to say that I crackshipped Caroline/Klaus back in season TWO so hey, the show wasn’t completely ungenerous to me xDD

On a lonely stretch of road in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, a man in a sedan is aggressively pursued by a Racist Ghost Truck™. The Racist Ghost Truck™ seems to just disappear and the man continues on his way --until the Racist Ghost Truck™ is RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. 

The Racist Ghost Truck™ chases the man off the road … and disappears. 

At the local Gas-n-Sip generic gas station, Sam’s looking at old school paper maps to track their next case when Dean tells him they’re taking a detour to Missouri. He got a call from “an” “old” “friend” that her father was killed.

On the drive, Sam ribs Dean in a most delightful way. He wants to know the nature of this friendship. Her name’s Cassie (OOOO00000OOOOO), they dated for a couple of weeks, and she knows what Sam and Dean do because Dean told her. That boy is so soft. It breaks my fucking heart. 

Sam and Dean arrive at the Cape Girardeau newspaper, where Cazzie Cassie and her father’s friend are getting told what they can and cannot put in the paper. Ugh, it seems her father isn’t the only victim to die on that stretch of road. 

Cassie turns to find Sam and Dean (and much like a more recent and beloved Cas in season 12) she doesn’t seem to register that Sam is there at all and sighs, “Dean.” Sam’s smirk watching them together says it all. 

For Sam Knows™ Science:

This hardcore Destiel stan has a soft spot for Cassie right now. 

That night at Cassie’s mom’s house, she fills the brothers in on what’s been happening. Her dad has been seeing the Racist Ghost Truck™; there were tracks leading right to where her father’s car went off the road, and the first person killed was her father’s best friend. Cassie’s skeptical of what Sam and Dean do but she needs their help.

Cassie’s father’s friend is the latest victim. Cassie’s at the scene of the crime arguing with the mayor. She wants the stretch of road closed. She makes it clear that if the victims were white, the road would be closed. (Uh, sadly, yeah.) 

Later, at their motel, Sam decides to rib Dean a little more about his relationship with Cassie. MY GOD IS IT FUN. Dean, ofc, wants to drop this nonsense, but Sam, please continue. 

The brothers head out to investigate as insurance agents (DEAN, bby, knot your tie just a tad neater plz). They ask some guys about the Racist Ghost Truck™ and surprise, surprise, the black guy’s heard of it. The Racist Ghost Truck™  goes way back to the 1960s it seems. 

The boys put it together that they’re dealing with a Racist Ghost Truck™ and Dean agrees to go talk to Cassie. Sam suggests he also talk to her about the “serious unfinished business” between them as well. Dean admits that things were pretty serious with her. Sam just stares. 

Dean gets defensive and Sam realizes that Dean loved her. He was in love with Cassie but he dumped her. Dean doesn’t deny a thing. Sam realizes that she dumped him. OUCH. “Get in the car.” Classic Dean “I’m NOT going to talk about it” Winchester. (See 10x05 for further explanation.)

That night, Dean shows up at Cassie’s. They awkwardly talk, plastered to opposing pillars in the living room. 

Cassie calls Dean out on his emotional constipation. Dean calls her out on dumping him when he was open with her. AND OMG, Cassie dumped him because she thought he was going to dump her.

CUE MAKE OUT TIME. 

CUE MORE THAN MAKE OUT TIME.

CUE ME BEING MAD THAT I’M WATCHING THIS ON NETFLIX AND THE MUSIC IS NOT RIGHT. 

(LBR, for narrative symmetry, we’ll need Dean in a similar scene with another “Cas” in season 15 to finish the show, right?) 

The mayor is hanging out on the dreaded stretch of road looking at some killer blueprints. He seems pretty pleased with himself and heads to his car. Before he can even get in his car, the Racist Ghost Truck™ runs him off the road. 

Post-coital Dean and Cassie are enjoying a moment. (Natasha: what this episode lacks in plot has always been made up for me by these two #soft)

For This is a Rare Scene Science:

Cassie hints they could have a second chance. Dean says that he’s still involved with his “dad’s work.” Interrupting Moose interrupts their peaceful moment. 

Dean meets Sam on a suddenly snowy day (shakes fist at Vancouver) to investigate the Mayor’s death. The guy was crushed - as though by a large vehicle - but there were no tracks. 

At the newspaper office, Cassie and Dean sip hot beverages together and nestle in front of the warm glow of a cathode ray computer monitor.

Sam calls with property record information. The property where the Mayor died used to belong to someone named Dorian. Dorian went missing in the sixties, around the time of the first string of murders. As soon as the Mayor bought the property, he bulldozed the old house that was on it. Mysteriously. 

Dean and Cassie check the news; the first killing happened the day after the Dorian house got flattened. 

Cassie gets home and wanders her house pensively, when the lights begin to flicker. Outside the Racist Ghost Truck™ revs its engines. This ghost is just the fucking worst. It terrorizes Cassie, who calls Dean. 

Cut to a little while later and a debrief in the living room. Sam asks Cassie’s mom about her husband’s sighting of the truck before he died. She prevaricates but Dean presses her, telling her that Cassie’s life is on the line. HER LIFE, LADY! He can’t date her if she’s dead, okay?

Mrs. Robinson pins Cyrus Dorian as the owner of the truck. But he couldn’t have run anybody over...he died over 40 years ago. Dean, always so quick, catches the error. Dorian was reported missing, not dead. 

Cassie’s mom immediately confesses. When they were young, Dorian was jealous of her relationship with her soon-to-be husband Martin. Black men started to “disappear.” (I tell her that her relationship with her husband had nothing to do with this guy being a racist, murdering shit-bag.) When she and Martin got married, they decided to skip the church last minute and elope instead. The church was set on fire that day, killing a bunch of kids. Not too long after that, Dorian attacked Martin and would have killed him, except Martin got the upper hand and killed him instead. 

Dean, I love you but you are a fool for this next question: “Why didn’t you call the cops?” Mrs. Robinson schools him with her glare. 

Martin and two of his friends put Dorian into the truck and pushed the whole thing into the swamp. When the then-deputy (now the Mayor) discovered their secret, he buried it because he also knew all the murders that Dorian had committed.

Outside, Sam talks to Dean about what EVEN is his life investigating a case like this? They hang a lampshade on the premise of a killer ghost truck, before moving on to talking about how to stop the ghost. They’ll need to dig up Dorian’s body and burn it. 

Cassie heads outside. Her mom’s asleep and she is ready to kick some dead racist ass! Dean orders her to stay at home, though, because Dean is NO FUN. They kiss. Sam clears his throat in an obnoxious fashion. Witness Interrupting!Sam coming into his power, friends!

At the Dorian property, Dean drives a bulldozer and they drag the truck out of the swamp. The guys pull out the body, salt and burn it, and call it done. In the distance the ghost truck revs its engine. 

Dean recognizes the situation for the perfect opportunity for a drag race that it is, and tells Sam to figure out a way to burn the sopping wet (real) truck. Meanwhile, he’s gonna lead ghost truck on a merry chase through the countryside. 

Cue exciting chase music! 

It’s not looking good for our Dean, when Sam directs him to a very particular spot he’s found on the map. The truck revs its engines and drives straight for Dean, disappearing into mist as soon as it hits stone barriers on either side of the Impala. It turns out that Sam directed Dean to the old, burnt out church in hopes that the hallowed ground would destroy the spirit. Luckily, Sam’s hunch was right! Job done. 

Cassie and Dean bid farewell at the waterfront. Dean wonders if their separation could be a little less permanent and GUYS if I weren’t so invested in Dean/Cas for season 15 then I’d totally go for Dean/Cassie as a surprise comeback. (I like sassy Cassie. Imagine...journalist turned hunter because she KNOWS TOO MUCH.) Cassie’s not feeling it, though, or at least she doesn’t think they can make it work. It’s goodbye for realsies, now. With one last kiss, they part ways. 

(Sam doesn’t interrupt! Somebody give him an award.)

They drive off and reflect on the top takeaway of this episode: Cassie’s great. “You meet someone like her,” Sam ponders. “Doesn't it make you wonder if it's worth it? Putting everything else on hold? Doing what we do?” Whoa, it’s almost like this is a central thesis statement of the entire series. Now, add a pinch of “someone who knows the life” and you got yourself a winning recipe!

Dean avoids the question, slipping on sunglasses and settling down for a little shut-eye while Sam drives them to their next case.

💔 - ship i find sadlbr everything is sad, but i pick either anders/karl or zevran/revasa. kanders is fucking tragic and the reversal of tranquility absolutely ruins me, and zevasa deserved a chance that i didn’t give zevvy purely bc i missed alistair. he loves her so much :((

💦 - taboo shipi can’t rly think of many?? i guess i rly like one of my mage wardens w templars, but that’s more sexual and manipulative on both ends. the drama is interesting. um?? i recently read cole/dorian and im here for that too
