Actually that spy review podcast articulated something very important about Garak's characters that people often miss, which is that Garak doesn't lie directly as much as he claims, and when he does it is often either
1) obvious on its face (most of his lies about his exile, like the tax evasion story) or
2) obvious if you know him (the changeling impersonating Julian knew Garak well enough to deduce he was lying about the transmission because of extra information Garak provided to explain himself, technically his stories in the wire because his use of names reveals it)
He more often prunes the truth to make what he's saying more appealing to whoever he's talking to and isn't necessarily subtle about it (the way he talks to Worf to get him to continue investigating in In Purgatory's Shadow is really blatant and Worf calls him on it, but it's also effective at appealing to him so he does what Garak wants anyway). Or he says the truth in such a ridiculous way that you feel stupid for consodering it (the outcast spy comment). Or he omits some facts but uses others.

It's funny when someone responds to you claiming you're just repeating their point, meanwhile they missed the part where I talked about them failing to grasp that being upset about the Nazi association to Amestris while saying all fascism is bad and that the Nazi association means people have "misunderstood" the moral of fma and thus "proves Arakawa's" point is attributing ignorance to the critics while falsely claiming Arakawa's work as consistently anti-military (it absolutely isn't).
But I shouldn't be surprised.

I appreciate that I've not seen much of it here, which is where he seemed to live, but man does Bluesky want to ruin everything a certain author touched.
And I get it. It's hard to learn someone you respected, looked up to, maybe even worshiped a little--judging by the reactions--has done something heinous.
What I don't understand is why you'd let that ruin the good they did, the words they wrote or said that made you feel something.
All human beings are capable of being horrible, wealth and fame only put it on display in brighter colors when it happens.
So stop supporting him, ignore any new thing he does.
But don't let it ruin how his writing made you feel, how his words might have helped you. He doesn't deserve that kind of power, no one does.

my most frustrating problem i have is i have to have a reason to do things. i have to have a reason to leave the house to leave the house, i can’t just leave and walk aimlessly there’s gotta be a place i want/need to be. i have to have a reason to draw, a reason to reach out to friends, a reason to wear certain clothes or eat certain foods. pain in the ass that i can’t just DO stuff.

Gotta love that the Walton Performing Arts Center (yes, of the Walmart Waltons) decided of its own volition NOT to host youth events at the local Pride parade this year. Even though the events in question - drag story hour and drag performances for youth - they have happily hosted all years previous. Even though a drag ban failed to pass in Arkansas. Even though they just finished up a run of Tootsie and are preparing for a run of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Even though literally no one asked them to do this, and in general the Waltons love to pay lip service to being queer friendly. Despite all this, they have decided on their own not to host any queer youth events at Pride this year.
The only silver lining, to me at least, is that this seems to be getting a really strong, negative reaction from the community. The group responsible for running our local Pride has already cut ties with the Walton Arts Center and publicly condemned them. Other groups appear to be doing the same, and public opinion in general is very much against this. With any luck, this will do some lasting damage to their reputation in the area.

i genuinely don't understand what capitalist countries stand to gain by fighting each other instead of collaborating economically. like why does the us warmonger against china when we would benefit more from trade? ostensibly it's for moral reasons, but regardless of the veracity of any given claim i think the united states has shown itself to prioritize economic success over human rights on a number of occasions especially during the cold war. i suppose i assume most wars are waged on the grounds of economic gain (natural resources, global political power, straight up money in the form of the military-industrial complex) but you could make an equally solid argument that just as many are waged over purely social and political issues- ethnic and religious conflict, blind nationalism, the whims of a dictator. it just confuses me at times, i guess. i have a hard time believing that the united states is bound and determined to wage war against china over human rights abuses, infringing on other countries sovereignty, and neo-colonialism in africa when we've propped up fascist dictators in many a country who've done far worse. is it literally just the association with communism? because surely whatever evil fuckers actually want war know that china is very far from communist right now. is it just nationalism? the idea that we must be on the top of the totem pole, even if our economy would stand to gain from trade? because i suppose i could believe that, but i think if that was true we wouldn't have gotten to where we are today in the first place. blegh. at the end of the day i am also ignoring the fact that many many different groups of people want war against china for reasons ranging from sinophobic jingoist nationalism to a genuine belief that the united states is a global moral watchdog determined to establish ~democracy~ worldwide. but there is a definite slant to media coverage on china right now, genuine attempts at disinformation, and given that the media in the us is so deeply tied to corporate interests it leads me to believe that there has to be some economic motive here, and it frustrates me that i can't figure out what it is.
