we need more pretty ways to describe eyes and I’m not talking your basic blue eyes with no flavour
‘Oh it’s like the ocean’ stfu.
We need people to wax poetry about new colours with new words.
Compare hazel green eyes to a trek around the edge of a swamp, the dusting of reeds on your bare knees, flecks of mud on your toes. There’s the faint sound of birds twittering for their families to return home. A rustle of wind, a squelch of mud. In them you find quiet, stillness, beauty. A natural reserve of all that came before and all that will come.
Compare brown eyes to a garden on a hill. The soil is freshly turned, you can see in each fleck. Yet still something gold remains, a solidarity flower battling through a tough winter and rewarded with fresh spring. There’s the taste of earth in your mouth, Mother Nature extending her hand to this tiny patch to bless them with light. You stand at a garden on a hill and you know home is not far.
I could go on but alas it is late. Please write your own, so I may read them in the morning!

Disability is not a punishment, but I think the world would be genuinely improved if every person involved in writing or regulating ingredient labels was mysteriously inflicted with at least one food allergy falling under each of the following categories: "natural flavors," "modified food starch," "artificial flavors," "spices," and "color." Down with ingredient labels so vague that they defeat the entire fucking point.

a phrase that kinda bothers me when talking about women's historical roles in europe is "cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children." you hear it so often, those exact words in the same order even. and once you learn a little more you realize that the massive gaping hole in that list is fiberwork. im not an expert and have no hard numbers, but i wouldnt be surprised if fiberwork took up nearly as much time as the other three tasks combined, so it's not a trivial omission.
it's not a hot take to say that the mass amnesia about fiberwork is linked to the belittlement of women's work in geneal, but i do think there's a special kind of illusion that is cast by "cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children." you hear that and think "well i cook and clean and take care of children (or i know someone who does) and i have a sense of how much work that is" and you know of course that cooking and cleaning were more laborious before modern technology, but still, you have a ballpark estimate you think, when in fact you are drastically underestimating the work load.
i also think that this just micharacterizes the role of women's work in livelihoods? cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children are all sisyphean tasks that have to be repeated the next day. these are important, but not the whole picture. when we include all kinds of fiberwork—and other things, such as making candles or soap—women's work looks much more like manufacturing, a sphere we now associate more with men's work. i feel like women's connection to making and craftsmanship is often elided.

it is legit bizarre to me how hard video game creators and film directors and showrunners try to pretend that fat people don't exist. can you think of the last time you saw a fat person in a lead role? god forbid a fat woman? i can walk down the street or go into a shop or restaurant and see fat people everywhere but then i switch on the tv and suddenly it's like a glimpse into an alternate universe where no one has a bmi over 24. insidious and weird

I'm sure many people have already shared this here, but I think it's important that people here on Tumblr need to see this.

Yes, you saw what you saw.
Yes, you saw what you saw. Yes, he did what you thought he did. Yes, they aired that with their whole chest.
The next thing they will do is deny that it happened. (you saw wrong, it wasn't what you thought it was, etc) After that they will try to downplay it (it was a joke, he didn't mean it like that, it's a "roman salute," etc) They will try to claim it was the work of AI. (its a deep fake, it's a smear campaign, it's hate speech, etc) They will do everything they can to sweep it aside. Then they will try to bury it. Then they will distract you with meaningless bullshit.
Do not fall for it. Do not believe it. Do not be gaslit.
You saw what you saw. He did what he did. And we need to make sure that we do not forget.
