Zijn motto "if you can dream it, you can do it" heeft voor hem dan ook een letterlijke betekenis gekregen.

Darragh O’Dea – Ireland’s Premier Wedding DJ
“Experience is my business card”
My obsession with music started when I was a young kid. I was lucky enough to get a stint at a local Pirate Radio Station when I was fifteen and I played songs that still work for me today. That is the beautiful and bizarre thing about music. If you get to know your crowd and invest in the audience anything can happen.
Being a Wedding DJ in Kildare is profoundly more than simply playing music. It’s creating a backdrop for memories that will quite literally last a lifetime. It’s knowing that there is no such thing as a “wedding play-list”. My experience has shown and taught me to create something unique every single time.
I’ve been a DJ for over 30 years and have navigated my way from a time where music was simply radio. You had to listen live, buy (and read) the magazines and take every morsel of advice from your elders gratefully. They knew what would work because they had the experience. Experience that couldn’t be bought or sold. It was gold.
Tumblr media
When I play an 80’s DJ set I am right back there. At 80’s nights I am once again transported. It worked for me then and it’s working for us now. It’s a spectacular thing to be part of and when it works it works. My experience has taught me to thrive on that energy.
When I play a 90’s DJ set I am transported back to my time as a DJ on the Canary Islands. It was 1992 and the world would physically stop turning if “Rhythm Is A Dancer” was not played a minimum of four times. You can’t “learn” those memories. It’s an instinctive and genuine thing. I am right back there remembering what worked and seeing it work again so beautifully!
As a DJ It is no longer acceptable to “not have a song”. We are now the Spotify generation. Every song, era & mood is available at a second’s notice. For couples who wed in their late 20’s/early 30’s Mark McCabe Maniac 2000 is an institution. It’s a right of passage and probably the biggest song in Irish Music History. A time machine of memories, mistakes and everything that represented one’s teenage years! I recently played at a wedding where a band member asked me about the song as he had never heard it before. I thought he was joking and It stopped me in my tracks! (no pun intended)
As a wedding DJ you have to entertain and please a large group of people in no more than sixty songs. You’ve an eight year old flower girl and ninety year old Auntie Breda. Every single guest is worthy and deserving of an amazing experience. My experience has taught me to weed through the junk and PLAY THE HITS. It’s the simplest strategy and a formula for success but sometimes it can be lost in an oblivion of panic and preparation. Every single crowd is different and you often have to change your plans, shake things up and alter accordingly. It’s a gut feeling and a momentary instinct that arrives when you look at that room of people. A room of unique people who have united to celebrate the most important day in the life of someone that they love. Play the hits and make them happy.
Sometimes the dance floor clears. It happens. The temptation to panic and question everything is very real. It happens for a lot of DJs. I’ve reached a point in my career where I pride myself on reading the crowd and the clientèle. If it doesn’t work then you very quickly provide something that does. The dance floor begins to populate once again and you know you’re doing your job. That feeling is electrifying!
I have 30 years experience in this wonderful industry but I am constantly learning something new. Weddings, music and people are complex topics individually. Throw them all together and you have a lot of things to consider. I recently played at a wedding and instantly knew that a song (Buddy Joe) would transport the wedding couple and their friends right back to their youth. I also knew that this kind of song, and indeed set, simply wouldn’t work on the night of their wedding. It would have been lost in the company of the more mature guests and friends and family of the couple. Day 2 of the wedding brought more celebrations and felt to be the perfect time for this genre. It became a thirty minute set and the feedback from the couple was amazing. It brought the bride, groom and all of their friends right back to their teenage years and the atmosphere was out of this world.
Just a week later I played at the wedding of a more Indie/Alternative couple. Their music choices were far from mainstream but they wanted to please everyone at the same time. We found a way to merge the two and it resulted in brilliantly happy wedding guests and a bride and group who still experienced the tunes that brought them back to their college days. We made it happen and it was my experience that gave me the confidence to make that promise.

My experience as a wedding DJ in Ireland is my business card. Like any artist I’ve dedicated my life and time to perfecting my skill. I respect the responsibility that comes with the job and I’ve spent my days fine tuning my craft. I’ve grown in an industry that has become so saturated and “tick the box”. Experience is my tool kit. It’s the bag of tricks that makes me 100% confident that your wedding will be everything you have dreamt about and more. It will be “that” wedding that people talk about time and time again.

Crane Carnage!
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (28th October - 1st November 2019)
It’s time for the week that must make getting home insurance in Hollyoaks village impossible! Yes, it’s stunt week and this year saw a crane based catastrophe hit the village. As the week began, Breda was finding it harder and harder to sneak off to see Tony and with her family believing that she had dementia, she knew things were only going to get tougher. So, she told Tony that she would have to kill him. However, Tony was able to talk Breda round and she agreed to let him go home. After coming to an agreement that Tony would lie low until Breda had had a chance to speak to her family, Breda put Tony in the boot of her car and headed for Hollyoaks...
Tumblr media
Back in the village, everyone was gathering for DJ’s christening, whilst Luke was struggling to come to terms with the news that he was the little boy’s Dad. After the service, Mandy handed DJ to Luke whilst she went to the toilet and Luke was overcome with emotion as he held his son for the first time. As Luke told DJ how sorry he was about the situation, Darren was lurking just behind the door, and was devastated to learn that he wasn’t DJ’s Dad. Believing that Mandy had lied to him, Darren spent the night at Jack’s and only returned home to a worried Mandy the following morning. Darren confronted a confused Mandy over her ‘deception’ and despite Mandy insisting that it changed nothing for her, Darren angrily asked her how he was supposed to love a child that wasn’t his, words overheard by Charlie and Ella...
Tumblr media
Deciding to get away from their warring families, Charlie and Ella headed into the village. Walter spotted the pair loitering by the tunnels and, warning them of the danger, told them to go and play somewhere else. Deciding to ignore him, the kids headed down there anyway. Above them, work was beginning on Cindy’s Grande Bizzare, despite Tom’s worries that the foundations of the village would not take the weight of the arriving machinery. Meanwhile, Scott asked Mitchell to chose once and for all who he wanted to be with, but Mitchell felt unable to leave Cleo when he found her binging again. As this was going on, Mandy and Luke confronted Ollie over the paternity test, and Luke was left devastated to realise that not only had his son lied to him, but Cindy had too.
Tumblr media
As Breda got nearer and nearer to the village, she began to have second thoughts about handing herself in, and told Tony of her fears. With his chances of freedom slipping away, Tony grabbed hold of the wheel, causing Breda to lose control and crash her car into the crane in the village. As everyone rushed to Breda’s aid, Luke took advantage of the empty shop and stole a bottle of wine before hopping into the crane to start the building work himself. However, Luke quickly realised his mistake as he failed to control the machinery, not to mention the fact that the crane was sinking into the tunnels. Underground, Charlie and Ella were terrified as rubble fell around them, and neither could remember which way they’d come in...
Tumblr media
Having headed into the florists to discuss their relationship, Mitchell and Scott were oblivious to the carnage outside. Despite telling Scott he wanted to be with him, Mitchell was terrified when he realised his family were outside and refused to step out with Scott. Underground, Charlie and Ella managed to find their way out of the tunnels, just as Darren and Nancy headed in, having heard from Walter that the kids had been skulking nearby earlier. With the crane becoming more and more unsteady, the entire village was evacuated, apart from Luke, who refused to leave The Hutch.
Tumblr media
Eventually, the crane collapsed into the tunnels, crushing the florists, and showering Darren and Nancy in rubble. As Darren and Nancy tried desperately to find their way out, they came to the starling realisation that no one knew they were down there. Believing themselves to be moments away from death, they did what anyone would do in the same situation and had sex, just as a search team lead by Leela found them. As the pair were lead to safety, Cleo spotted Scott in the wreckage of the florists, and was horrified to realise that Mitchell was there too. As everyone was rushed to hospital, Tony lay undiscovered in the boot of Breda’s car. However, just as he’d managed to free himself, Breda, who’d done a runner from the hospital, bundled him back into the boot and returned him to the pig farm! Tony was spotted by Luke, however, in his drunken state, it’s likely that no one will believe him...
Tumblr media
At the hospital, Mitchell was devastated by Scott’s condition and poured his heart out to him, just as Cleo walked in. Cleo was devastated to realise that Mitchell had been cheating on her and made plans to leave the village. Finally, with the evacuated residents gathering at The Dog, Mercedes was enjoying playing host and and soon saw a money making opportunity when Diane told her that, with The Hutch out of action, they’d need to find somewhere else to hold Harry’s wake. Grace was furious when Mercedes offered The Dog up and destroyed Harry’s funeral flowers when they were delivered. She was interrupted by Joel, who told her that Harry had not been responsible for the hit and run, and that she should look a little closer to home for the culprit...
Tumblr media
5 Things We Learned This Week:
1. It’s DJ’s God parent’s job to protect him from all evil. Well they should start by moving him the hell away from Hollyoaks then!
2. Breda’s finding the upsides to a potential dementia diagnosis. “One day I won’t be able to remember who I am”, she told Goldie and Sylver. If only we could be so lucky, Breda.
3. Jesse gets really sweaty in a crisis. He must be permanently drenched, what with living in Hollyoaks.
4. “By the time you’re as old as they are, aren’t you supposed to have everything figured out?” Ella’s in for some serious disappointment when she grows up.
5. The residents of Hollyoaks have finally cottoned onto the fact that Hollyoaks is a dangerous place to be at this time of year. Grace is going to book a holiday for this time next year.
This Week’s Cast:
Breda, Charlie, Cindy, Cleo, Courtney, Darren, Diane, DJ, Edward, Ella, Finn, Goldie, Grace, Jack, Jesse, Joel, Kyle, Leela, Liberty, Lisa, Luke, Mandy, Martine, Mercedes, Misbah, Mitchell, Nancy, Oliver, Peri, Scott, Sienna, Sylver, Tom, Tony, Walter, Woody and Yasmine.
