Bit of a rushed job and probably not the best use of my time given I'm up at 7 tomorrow but I did some blobs along my doorframe! The other side is covered in different blue coloured cutouts from magazines and books so I thought it could use a happy side too! Plus they remind me of the stones as Newgrange which is always a bonus.

I’ve been patiently waiting for a nice second-hand wood dresser to appear on fb marketplace or at Goodwill for months. Finally, I grabbed this one yesterday for $50.

My inspiration for this project are some dressers I saw at Anthropology that have gorgeous carved details. But I want my dresser to cost $200 or less rather than $2,000.

Of course I can’t add actual hand-carved wood, but I’ve got clay and some silicon molds + epoxy and a potential overconfidence in my DIY abilities.

First up, I removed the existing hardware and sanded this pretty lady down. She is now looking MUCH better without all those terrible stains (and the drawer pulls weren’t doing it for her, tbh).

Up next, I’ll give her a paint wash or three and start trying my hand at faking some carvings!

Happy Workshop Wednesday.

This week was about making lattices for my indoor Bougainvillea, AKA Paper flower plant.

We have a neighbor trying to clear some invasive bamboo growing in the ground, and they've been kind enough to let me snag a few stalks.

I'm just happy I got these before the snow fell.

I'm also testing out growing English ivy indoors because no one can have too many plants. Just be careful with both these vines as they are known to be toxic to animals when ingested.

Can I just say: I hate it when people call every little thing over consumerism. No, putting something into a reusable container to fit in your cabinets properly is not over consumerism. No, having home personalization (ex: a pink themed kitchen) is not over consumerism.

I've seen people call DIY-ing a jewelry plate over consumption. THEY MADE IT THEMSELF???? How is that over consumerism?!?

I feel like people need to learn the real definition of it. For anyone who doesn't properly know (/lh):

"Overconsumption refers to the excessive use of goods and services to the point where resources are depleted or the environment is negatively impacted. It often leads to waste and can harm both individual well-being and the planet's health."

It just bothers me so much how so many people think the smallest amount of personalization is bad! Even if it came from themselves and their own creativity.

yeah all this is right on. people saying this have a very not correct idea on what overconsumerism is. its not an aesthetic issue, its an ethical one.

you can have a clean girl ikea showroom hashtag minimalism core home and still be doing overconsumerism

you can have a home covered in throws and pillows and trinkets and maximalist fancies and that not be overconsumerism

people who call ornamental additions in a home overconsumerism have that "does having decorative pillows make you part of the bougeoisie" mindset, and to that just remember that people have real problems.
