This is a part of Felix I really like. When it comes to Rodrigue, as long as Rodrigue is safe, Felix is his usually tsun self... but as soon as anything dangerous happens to him (in both games) Felix gets anxious.
It's a nice detail because it makes sense for him to feel that way after losing Glenn, and since this is in VW, he's also, presumably at this point, lost Dimitri. It makes sense that if something felt off about his family (i.e. Dimitri is basically his brother, thus family. Dimitri literally sees Rodrigue as his second father) that he would get uncomfortable.
What I love about it is how much it speaks to his real feelings. He can act uppity and vocal all he wants, but as soon as something happens to these people he claims he doesn't like or care about, it makes him antsy. For all the nonsense he talks about them, as soon as something happens to them, he struggles to accept it (such as why, in his AM advice box note, you have to tell him that that's just the way life is sometimes when he's grieving about his father).
For all of Felix's complaining about Rodrigue, as soon as Rodrigue suddenly isn't able to update him regularly or communicate with him during a war, he becomes uneasy. He's not suddenly grateful like oh finally the old man shut up. He gets nervous that they've suddenly had little to no contact. He's unsettled not knowing what's going on with Rodrigue.
I love this line because it's who Felix really is, without all the posturing. He'll act tough and angry in front of them, but as soon as something goes wrong, he wants to know what's happening. He's afraid of not knowing what's going on. He's afraid that the Kingdom could be in a bad situation, or worse for him, that his father could be in a dangerous situation.
If he didn't care about Faerghus or his father anymore, why would it bother him not to get updates? If Rodrigue was in contact with Felix despite Felix being in the Alliance army, Rodrigue obviously had no issue with that and still took the time and effort to remain in contact with him. Plus, if Felix says this now, it means they'd been pretty regularly exchanging information up to that point and it's just recently started to go quiet, and Felix is uncomfortable with that. He wants to know what's happening.
It's so rare that he acts like this, but when he does it's very powerful. It's sincere and genuine - something he usually is not. He hides his feelings about people if they're safe in front of him. If they're not in front of him and could be in danger, he's worried.
I just wish we had more lines like this because they're so good for his character and help to get him past the issue Houses often has with tropey aspects of characters being their entire personality. In Hopes it's handled significantly better imo, but before we had AG Felix we only really had crumbs of who Felix really was and the parts of himself that he hid from others.

Claude calling the people of the Kingdom and Empire monsters and rallying people under the promise of their deaths and only giving half of a shit for his own people, on top of being willing to worsen foreign relations and refuel fighting on the border wrt Sreng for the same reasons. Hm wow that sure sound like someone who sees outsiders as less than human and only as threats to his own people (who are the only ones deserving of peace and safety). You know, that mindset that Claude fundamentally hates and literally came to Fodlan to wipe out so that people can live in harmony with each other?
Fuck this game and the absolutely horrific treatment it gave to Claude's entire character. Literally nothing anyone says can possibly explain why such a core aspect of Claude's character is not just not present, but actively replaced with its perfect opposite - and this game doesn't even bother to give a HALF-HEARTED explanation, he Just Is like this now. This game can actually suck my ass.
I like the game generally speaking (and AG was written really well), but I'm definitely not fond of how Claude was handled.
Like you said, and one of the biggest things that bothers me that I mentioned in another post is how he basically tells people to surrender or die, yet he says he wants to minimize casualties. It doesn't even make sense that he wants that but attacked the Kingdom without so much as a letter being sent to speak to Dimitri personally talk to to him about the Church and whatnot. Plus, if he did, he might have been made aware that all his perceptions of the Church were wrong.
The whole Sreng thing bugs me because they informed Sreng about the war and whatnot so that they'd invade, but later Claude tries to... not get them involved? He used them when it was convenient and then suddenly didn't want to after that.
One of my biggest gripes is that Claude has no consistency. You know how in CF they kept doing this back and forth trying to be like Edelgard is a bad person who started the war, oh wait no she's just a good person with strong views, etc etc? They really did that with Claude here except at least Edelgard was always consistent with her character. Claude's writing here is just like... they're trying to make him the anti-war person he is in Houses but they wrote him to be the exact opposite. When it starts going too far they pull him back again and have him keep iterating this nonsense about not wanting the war to keep going because people are dying.
Also, Nader saying he couldn't wait to rampage in the Kingdom REALLY bothered me (and he says this at camp so it's missable if he wasn't spoken to). After all the shit they said about Almyrans not being barbarians and whatnot, he's planning to go nuts with attacking the Kingdom? All that would do is make the Kingdom more unwilling to make any kind of relationship with Almyra.
There was definitely a lot of "we're doing this for Leicester" and not... any bit of care for any other land. I've been goofing about it a lot and trying to be mellow about it but just in general I find the things Claude does and the things he says to be absolutely abhorrent in this game. The way he manipulates people with the politely worded "surrender or die" is seriously awful and isn't much better than Edelgard's behavior.
I really doubt there would be any true harmony after this war. Even if the Kingdom lost and ceased to exist (and became just Adrestia and Leicester), I can guarantee there would be civil wars and uprisings all over the place. The people in the Kingdom would never, ever settle for that. Honestly, I could see Sylvain rallying troops and launching an attack on Leicester. I feel like even though he acts mostly calm during the story, he still has that in him because of the way Dimitri didn't want his emotions to get the better of him in battle. It's pretty clear to me that Sylvain despises Claude and the Alliance in GW.
Literally the whole thing with the Kingdom just sits so wrong with me. They were just minding their own business and suddenly everyone is trying to invade. In fact, they're trying to do good things within their borders and fix their society, but they can't because everyone around them just wants to go to war. Even the Church kind of forced them to get involved by asking for their aid. I'd put the least blame on them honestly because they really don't do anything bad at all here/in this game, but the war forced Dimitri's hand in so many ways when all he wanted to do was make a better society for the Kingdom.
By the end of the game I'd say Claude is really just... marginally better than Shahid, and that is not a high bar. It just served to keep the theme going that Almyrans just want war and fighting. Claude had other options and he chose invasion and killing. He chose to do what Shahid did to Leicester.
I honestly feel really bad for the Kingdom. Nobody will leave them alone and the worst part is that they're all so loyal to each other and so tight knit that like... once you've fucked with one of them you've fucked with all of them. They're not just gonna let it go and be like oh yeah okay we'll just stop the Kingdom from existing and give up on it. Dimitri also just wants to keep his people safe and Claude abuses that fact to make Dimitri let him get past him to get to Rhea. Basically, Claude is saying either I kill your people or let you me pass by and kill Rhea. Seeing as Rhea has always supported Dimitri and has never tried to obstruct any part of his rule, it's really shitty to be like oh hey you know this person who has done right by you and has been super chill with you? Let us kill her or I'm gonna kill your people and make you feel like shit about it. He uses people's emotions to make them stop fighting, and what he said to Ashe really bugged me.
There's a lot of stuff at the camp in GW that I saw (I'll end up posting some of it later, it's just that my posts are totally out of order for when I actually post them compared to when I'm playing so that I don't end up posting tons of stuff all at once, flood people's dashboards and then just have nothing to post lol) that really highlight how awful all of this is. Several characters are unhappy with all of it, and then you have the dumbass types who don't give a fuck like Raphael and Leonie (which is BEYOND me, especially with Raphael. He's supposed to be the gentle, kindhearted one and he's like 150% okay and happy with invading and fighting people and just knocking them flat. He gets excited for it. Hopes Raphael just ain't the one for me lol), and they only care about a good fight no matter who they have to kill.
Only a few people regularly question the morality of Claude's army, like Yuri, Hapi, Lorenz and Ashe. Most of them just... do not care. They'd kill good people for a good fight or because they just happen to like Claude so they'll ruin other people's lives.
I know it's just a video game, but... I just hate everything about the second half of GW lol. I love the early Almyran lore and it helps a lot for the missing pieces in Houses, but the story is just... disgusting. I've always hated Edelgard's actions in Houses and I'm not gonna justify Claude's behavior and actions in Hopes just because I like him in Houses. Just like her, he's a huge warmonger in this game. I guess it's because I just... don't like war and I have a very strong mindset on people who do things like that, especially when they attack people who are just living their lives and doing their own thing. Even though I've always been a Kingdom girl, I don't think my feelings would change on any of this if I was more bias toward Leicester. I don't think I'd be comfortable seeing the Kingdom being trampled for literally no reason whatsoever. We can't even blame Cornelia or other TWS members in this game for a lot of what happens to them. It's Edelgard and Claude doing a lot of it.
There's just... a lot of really awful things happening in this game and Claude spearheads a whole ass lot of it.

NY GIANTS MOCK DRAFT 2018 (ROUND 1-7)
(DCB)
Feb 1, 2018    6:30 PM CT
Round 1 - Josh Rosen QB (UCLA). The new coaching staff in place this will be a no-brainer. Pat Shurmur was hired to bring life to the Giants offense that has been lacking an offensive line and getting into the end zone. With him getting a five-year deal he will want his quarterback for the future. Rosen threw for over 9,000 yards in his three-year career at UCLA. He had multiple 300 plus yard games and showed he can get the ball out quickly. I think even if Rosen has to sit for a year or two behind Manning he could learn a few things from the former 2x Super Bowl MVP and how to stay healthy throughout his NFL career.
Round 2 -  Kolton Miller OT (UCLA). No surprise the Giants will be addressing the offensive line in this draft. Miller at 6-8 and 308 pounds has elite measurables. Miller just allowed 15 quarterback pressures( two sacks, eight hits, five hurries) on 544 pass-block snaps in 2017. In a young pass-heavy NFC East division Miller’s pass-blocking prowess will be what the Giants will be looking for to get that line a much-needed upgrade.
Round 3 -  Tyrell Crosby OT (Oregon). He has a nice blend of size and power something that has been missing on that Giants offensive line. This past season Crosby didn’t allow a single quarterback hit or sack on the blindside.
Round 4 - D.J. Chark WR (LSU). With the Giants not sold on paying Odell big-time money yet. This pick would help the offense and would bring some excitement to the special teams. Chark would be a top 25 pick if he had a quarterback while playing for the Tigers.
Round 5 - Heath Harding CB (Miami OH). Harding made a lot of big times plays while playing in the MAC. The Giants will be possibly cleaning house in that secondary adding a young Harding he could be the answer in that corner spot.
Round 6 - Chris Worley LB (Ohio State). Worley would be a guy that could be a steal in the draft. Can play multiple positions and can get to the quarterback something this linebacker team hasn’t had in a very long time.
Round 7 - Martez Carter RB (Grambling State). Carter can do it all on offense over 1,400 yards last season. The Giants can steal a few plays out the Saints playbook with the two running back offense. Gallman and Carter together could be a newer version of that thunder and lightning running game.

Panic At The Disco – Say Amen (Sweater Beats Remix) | Stream
Sweater Beats never fails to deliver knockout remixes. In April, he unveiled a delicious official remix of Fall Out Boy’s “Hold Me Tight Or Don’t” and now he’s taken our middle school dreams to the next level. The LA based producer has been drafted by “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” hitmakers Panic At The Disco to craft a spicy official remix of their new single “Say Amen”. Sweater Beats taps into his sinister side for this one by stringing eerie melodies amidst dark bass lines and crisp percussion. He fills the iconic pop rock vocals with an ominous soundscape that rumbles into a haunting, grungy drop. Wondrously different from his usual vibrant dance pop atmospheres, Sweater Beats has shown us a refined, Jekyll-like side of himself that will instantly capture your attention. Stream Sweater Beats’ adventurous Panic At The Disco remix below. – Jordan Farley
Fall Out Boy – The Last Of The Real Ones (Win & Woo Remix) | Stream
Win and Woo have just dropped off one of their finest remixes to date. For their latest, the Chicago duo have been tapped by the legends Fall Out Boy to turn their pop punk anthem “The Last Of The Real Ones” into a luxurious future house bop. Deep, shiny synths bounce off of Patrick Stump’s signature vocals, bringing an edgy electro house groove to the track. This remix follows a string of summer releases including their bubbly Cosmos & Creature collaboration “Beam Me Up” and official remixes of Robert DeLong and K.Flay’s “Favorite Color Is Blue” and Clara Mae and Jake Miller’s “Better Me Better You“. – Jordan Farley
Post Malone x Justin Bieber – Deja Vu (Whethan Remix) | Stream
Whethan is currently preparing for his debut project but he’s dropping off some treats to hold our anticipation. Following on the tail of their recent “Fireflies” cover, their latest is the second in their new Our Different Version series. They’ve now spun DJ Khaled‘s “No Brainer” into a hypnotic pop banger. Snappy percussion and sultry vocal chops beautifully drape it’s different’s dance pop flip and bring a new vibrance to the hit. Get hyped for their next cover.
Travis Scott – Sicko Mode (ANGELZ Remix) | Free Download
ANGELZ just dropped what has been the hardest rendition to Travis Scott‘s “Sicko Mode” so far. The single arose from Scott’s recent ASTROWORLD LP and slathered a hefty Drake feature so it’s no surprise to see the record see so much success outside of the album. Charting across the globe, countless remixes have hit the forefront but ANGELZ’s twisted rendition simply trumps the competition. In an era where house music continues to reign supreme, the Quebec City native continues to show off his immense versatility. Possessing a background in rap and hip-hop, his most recent house ventures have been tough to ignore. If you’ve yet to hear the name, now is the time to invest into ANGELZ. – Omar Serrano
Charlie Puth – The Way I Am (Taska Black Remix) | Stream
Bitbird producer Taska Black has just turned Charlie Puth‘s “The Way I Am” into an excessively hot remix. Tribal inspired percussion crafts an anthemic build up to the edgy future bass drop fueled by airy, chopped synths and deep bass lines. This is one of Taska Black’s finest remixes to date.
Loud Luxury – Body (Tim Gunter Edit) | Stream
Tim Gunter has certainly stepped up with this smooth remix of Loud Luxury‘s chart-topping hit “Body”. He recently impressed with his luscious remix of Hotel Garuda’s “Blurry Eyes” and has once again unleashed his dark futuristic soundscapes on “Body”. Swift percussion and bright piano hits bring a breezy future bass twist to the house original and it’s amazing. Tim Gunter has definitely caught our eye with this edit.
LIONE – Glimmer (tofû Remix) | Free Download
tofû is one of our favorite remixers and his latest remix is extra glittery. Taking on LIONE‘s “Glimmer”, tofû has wrapped the track in sugary sweet synths that drape it in a playful, light vibe. tofû’s “Glimmer” remix is a wonderful addition to his ever growing collection.
David Guetta, Martin Garrix & Brooks – Like I Do (LZRD Remix) | Free Download
LZRD have continually amazed with their adventurous future trap remixes of Louis The Child, Krewella, The Chainsmokers, and more. For their new remix of David Guetta and Martin Garrix‘s “Like I Do”, LZRD have unleashed wild percussion and wonky synths soar amidst chopped vocals, expertly blend future bass and trap. This is one of LZRD’s most ambitious remixes to date.
Two Friends – Bandaid (Wild Cards Remix) | Free Download
Wild Cards have consistently impressed with their jaw dropping remixes of Khalid, Fall Out Boy, Illenium, and more. They’ve now drafted a marvelous remix of Two Friends‘ “Bandaid” that erupts with vibrant piano hits and ringing synths. Their adventurous remix is sparked by playful future bass and bright dance pop, making it one of their finest remixes yet.
Lost Kings – Stuck (feat. Tove Styrke) [Kuur x Kbubs x DCB Remix] | Stream
Newcomers Kuur, Kbubs, and DCB have come together for one hell of a three-way remix. Together, the trio have pumped Lost Kings‘ “Stuck” with glittery synths, snappy percussion, and silky melodies that beautifully compliment Tove Styrke‘s lush vocals. Their vibrant, feel-good dance pop remix is quite a banger. Definitely keep an eye on these three this year.
Illenium – Chosen You (Birthdayy Partyy Flip) | Free Download
Birthdayy Partyy never fail to bring the bass and they’ve just brought it to Illenium‘s “Chosen You”. The Chicago duo have inserted their deep bass and hard hitting dubstep to turn the Illenium original into a wildly ambitious festival banger. This one goes off hard.
Lucy Daydream – Go Flex (Post Malone Cover) | Stream
Newcomer Lucy Daydream has certainly impressed with her debut release. Taking on Post Malone is no small task but Lucy Daydream has done it magically by covering his Stoney hit “Go Flex”. Her soft and sensual rendition is dreamy and luscious, floating into an effervescent world that takes “Go Flex” to a whole other place. Lucy Daydream is definitely one to keep an eye on this year.
Cailee Rae – It’s On You (Mielo Remix) | Stream
Mielo has continued to amaze with each of his wondrously produced remixes. Earlier this year, he dropped a gorgeous rendition of Slow Magic’s “Wildfire” and now he’s unveiled a brilliant official remix of Cailee Rae‘s “It’s On You”. Hypnotic synth melodies wrap Rae’s sultry vocals in a haunting dark pop vibe that is seductive and enticing. Mielo has certainly stepped up with this one.
Anarbor – MIA (Dead Robot Remix) | Free Download
Anarbor has stolen the hearts of many through the use of their heartfelt records and grunginess. When the release of The EP hit the world, they simply continued to build onto the bands lasting legacy. Venturing into realms of music they’ve yet to experiment into, it was no surprise to see their remix package tackle the same concept. That’s why we’re sharing with the remix to “MIA” by Dead Robot. His tasteful remix offers a melancholy version of the single that is prepared to sink into your heart. Putting you in a melodic whirlwind of emotions, his adventurous rendition is something you need to get your ears onto asap. – Omar Serrano
Drake – In My Feelings (VAVO X Steve Reece Remix) | Free Download
Vavo and Steve Reece just dropped one of the best remixes of Drake that I’ve ever heard.  They’ve both been crushing it on their own right, but them teaming up to take on “In My Feelings” is out of this world.  Their lush chords and crisp production make this Drake remix unforgettable. – Hunter Thompson
Tiesto & Dzeko ft. Preme & Post Malone – Jackie Chan (HtPkt & Facade Remix) | Free Download
Two months ago, Tarro put his spin on Tiesto and Post Malone‘s “Jackie Chan” and now two up and coming hotshots have dropped another stunning remix. HtPkt and Facade have each been featured on our pages and now they’ve joined forces for a funky future bass remix. Snappy percussion instantly brings a dance crazed groove to the track before blasting into a summery future house drop. HtPkt and Facade make for an amazing duo.
The Chainsmokers – Side Effects feat. Emily Warren (Nolan van Lith Remix) | Stream
Rising producer Nolan van Lith has pulled out all the stops for his official remix of The Chainsmokers‘ “Side Effects”. He opens with an ominous, shadowy soundscape filled with eerily pitched vocals, twisting The Chainsmokers’ original into a haunting future bass rendition. Nolan van Lith has definitely tapped into his dark side for this one and it’s phenomenal.

A hat-trick of housing award nominations for Ashford Borough Council
Tumblr media
Ashford Borough Council’s reputation for excellence in the housing sector continues to earn national recognition, with the authority nominated for three prestigious awards.
It is one of eight top-performing councils shortlisted for Strategic Local Authority of the Year at the UK Housing Awards, to be decided in London on 2 May.
Ashford has also just been announced as a finalist in the Housing Heroes Awards 2018, where it’s hoping to pick up the Development Team of the Year prize. The hat-trick of nominations is completed by making the shortlist in the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) South East Building Awards.
The nominations reflect the council’s vision to deliver quality housing and homes for all at a time when local government finances are under pressure as never before.
In its submission for the UK Housing Award for Strategic Local Authority, Ashford Borough Council said that its innovative approach has delivered significant achievements which have been recognised by central government.
It was the first council in the south east to be classed Housing Business Ready, while over 40% of all rural local needs homes built in Kent are built in Ashford. The ground-breaking PFI at Stanhope regenerated the area and more than £11m of projects with HCA funding have been delivered since 2011.
Ashford is up against five other finalists in the Housing Heroes Awards, which are jointly organised by Inside Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing. The winners will be announced on 25 June.
The talented five-strong project delivery team from Ashford hoping to scoop the Development Team prize has been supported by officers from across the housing, finance and property departments in an exemplary display of teamwork and collaboration. The team is proud of its involvement in delivering some notable ‘firsts’ in the last 12 months.
The housing department – with excellent support provided by the development team – has delivered Farrow Court, which is a rarity in modern-day social housing provision for older people. Built, owned and run by the council, this 104 home dementia-friendly centre is a flagship project in the area and is recognition of the need to make special provision for the needs of an ageing population – by 2026 it’s anticipated that around 40% of the residents of the Ashford borough will be aged over 50.
Noakes Meadow is the first bespoke wheelchair-user friendly bungalow that has been constructed by Ashford Borough Council and contractors DCB Kent. It has been built for Mr and Mrs MacGregor to accommodate Mrs MacGregor’s disability.
Occupational therapists who have seen the property have commented that it should be the blueprint for the type of bespoke wheelchair-friendly accommodation that ought to be built across the UK.
The conversion of council-owned lock-up garages into two high-quality affordable homes at Boxley in South Ashford has caught the eyes of judges in the LABC Building Excellence Awards for the South East region, in the category of best social or affordable new housing development.
The largely unused garages were in a poor condition and at risk of becoming a hub for anti-social behaviour. Ashford Borough Council teamed up with DCB Kent to provide two highly-practical and attractive three-bedroom homes. The project was delivered on budget and three months ahead of schedule.
Winners of the LABC awards for the South East will be announced on 22 June.
Cllr Gerald White, Ashford Borough Council’s portfolio holder for housing, said the authority had a well-earned reputation as a trail-blazer when it came to delivering quality affordable homes for local people.
“We continuously seek new opportunities to enhance our portfolio of affordable and supported housing to meet residents’ needs across the borough, both today and in the future.”

amazing to me how bc someone allied with the church he's all mad now and bc it's going to make it harder for him to win and get his uwu promotion, the alliance is now "filthy rogues" and "a mob".
man is literally so mad they can't just one and done this that he has to call them names for putting up a fight. they have the crest of flames as their banner? must be filthy rogues!
like seriously, he's literally just calling them these things because they're his opponents; not because they ever actually did anything.
and we're supposed to feel bad for this guy?

i. hate this. so. much.
like. what a way to say Claude isn't actually intelligent. can't make his own plans and/or execute them without someone's help. this guy survived most of his life avoiding being assassinated. literally, starting from childhood.
there is absolutely no way his schemes/plans/etc are "nothing" or "just words" without Byleth. Byleth was only in his life for a single fucking year at this point, then out of his life for five straight years.
it's one thing to have a friendship that's made him open up more for the first time ever, etc etc. but his intellect? everything he pours into his plans? Byleth gets all the credit for that?
I don't hate Byleth, but I do hate that Byleth completely wipes all sense of agency from Claude. I do hate that Claude considers his plans and such to be worthless without Byleth. I do hate that Byleth's existence in Claude's life makes him reliant on Byleth - something he absolutely is not in any other route.
I'm mixed on VW specifically because of this. it feels like he gets more done in the other routes by his own hand. he's shown to never need Byleth to get things done. he managed to keep the Alliance steady and neutral for five whole years without Byleth's influence. suddenly Byleth is back, and Claude insists he couldn't have convinced the Alliance lords to go with his plans without Byleth representing the Church.
wouldn't Seteth do more in that regard? he's a known and active member of the Church who has been there for years. he's known to be Rhea's second in command. wouldn't the Alliance lords respond better to the well known and respected Seteth, who is fighting alongside them in war, than to a complete stranger that they're seeing for the very first time? than a complete stranger just walking in claiming to be there to represent Rhea/the Church? why would they even believe that to be true if they didn't trust Claude?
but yet, they trusted Claude enough for the Alliance not to collapse into complete chaos during wartime. but all of a sudden Byleth's existence is the only reason why Claude can do... literally anything?
Byleth, as an individual, is a good character. Byleth, as the player's proxy, is an absolutely terrible character in two, arguably three routes.
in VW, this stuff
in CF, Edelgard apparently can't fight her war properly and has been sad for five years without Byleth... but in the other routes she's perceived to be in love with Byleth there too, and she can wage her war just fine without being unable to do what she set out to do because Byleth isn't there
in SS, the Church just follows Byleth without question and without raising an eyebrow. "Rhea said so" is pretty much the only reason. granted, Seteth openly didn't trust Byleth at first, but he's the only one. I do understand that Rhea wanted Byleth to take over after her and all that, but you could also still argue that the player proxy just walked in and took over the Church; hence, I can see it both ways for SS
I'd argue it's the worst in VW, because at least the Empire is still winning in CF (which if it's the player chosen route, then the player chosen route always wins), and it's winning the war in all routes at the start of the timeskip. Edelgard doesn't attribute the Empire's victories to Byleth in any way (that I can recall) while Byleth isn't present. In VW, as soon as Byleth is back, after the Alliance has been on rocky ground for five years, suddenly everything is different now and they can totally definitely absolutely win. no thanks to Claude, of course, because Byleth is here now!
like, it just makes all of the victories go to Byleth's hands and never Claude's. I hate how VW treats Claude. it's his own route, but he's made to look significantly more competent in all the other routes.
the thing is, I love Claude, and this just ain't it. Claude's victories should go to Claude. Claude's credit should go to Claude. Claude's intellect and ability to plan, maneuver and scheme should go to Claude. Byleth didn't do any of it. Byleth fought in the actual battles and... apparently leads their army (instead of Claude???)??? Byleth didn't come up with anything, only fighting in the actual battles.
and tbh, how is Claude going to inspire trust and loyalty with the other lords if... he can't even lead and has to rely on the current leader of the Church? if his victories aren't attributed to him, why should the other lords have faith in him? if Claude himself is going to demean his intelligence in favor of Byleth's prowess on the battlefield, why should the other lords trust him as their leader?
if Claude is only capable of inspiring neutrality and not victory, he's not a good leader... and that's a problem with the writing, because he is a good leader. he's shown to be a great leader in AM/CF. if they felt on the verge on disastrous infighting with Claude leading them but all settled down for Byleth, what good is Claude compared to Byleth?
and I absolutelyyyyy fucking hate that. VW is Claude's route, and yet it shoves him down for Byleth at all possible opportunities - even unnecessary ones!
Byleth is obviously the player proxy and thus has a strong effect on all routes, but it feels so much more notorious to me on VW. it's the only route that straight up degrades its lord in favor of the player proxy - and in fact has the lord basically outright state themselves as useless without said player proxy.
Claude deserves so much better than this.
I know people say like "Dimitri fans just prefer AM Claude because of Dimitri" and shit, but like... no, I just hate that VW!Claude is treated like an afterthought to Byleth. He's treated so much better by the narrative in the other routes. He can be who he always was, and especially who he was at the beginning of the game (just with growth later on). no Byleth is better for him in the sense that the writing doesn't push him under Byleth's boot.
Byleth isn't better than him in every goddamn regard in the other routes, and he even declines joining the Kingdom army because he has other things to do. He doesn't bow down to Byleth and say it's all thanks to our dear Teach that the Alliance survived. He credits Dimitri and the Kingdom for the help, and he specifically requested Dimitri's help and not Byleth's.
There's no player proxy obsession from Claude in AM. The closest we get is Claude saying if Byleth had chosen him over Dimitri, which is a brief thought he cuts off and otherwise attributes the rescue to the Kingdom army and Dimitri's quick decision to take action and go help them.
At least for me, that's why I prefer AM Claude (and even CF Claude is better than VW Claude's behavior about Byleth). He's not second to Byleth. He's not second to anyone. He defends his country and will even stay to the death to protect them. He's their leader and he acts the part. VW treats him like a figurehead who is second to Byleth, basically making Claude second to the Church.
They're not even treated as equals. Claude is straight up degraded, even by himself, in favor of Byleth.
Buddy. I. Hate. That.

when you're sad abt dimitri post gronder but then they make you more sad
feat gilbert where this time he didn't get to save dimitri when he was at the brink of death. when he was too late and instead of carrying him away to safety and saving his life, he's carrying his dead body away in a shame he already knew all too well. and not just carrying, but clutching. this boy he taught and trained at a young age, whose future he barely saved, and now he's holding tightly onto his body as he leaves the battlefield. you know he hated himself all over again. you know his world was totally shattered as it sank in that this boy was gone.
feat dimitri having prayed very often for his deceased loved ones and being there at night when it was quiet. he would suffer hearing those voices saying horrible things to him, but he would pray for them at night. he just wanted peace for everyone who died that day, doing something as delicate as praying for them amidst all the anger and hatred.

okay hear me out tho i'm gonna tell u this is sad and why
your bond with someone goes deeper than family? family is, unless something is really wrong between family members, supposed to be one of the instinctually strongest bonds humans have (like why mama bears are a thing lol - even to their unborn children! by default, they love their child even if said child isn't even out of the womb yet! also why toxic family relationships are so complicated, because "it's still my [family member]"). like, by default, there's a bond (usually between immediate family members, i.e. extended family is not necessarily by default depending on interaction and frequency of interacting).
that can change, but things have to happen for it to change. there have to be actions involved to put a strain on that relationship. someone has to do something to lessen the bond or to sever it entirely (i.e. if someone has a bad relationship with their family, it's almost always due to issues that popped up throughout their lives).
from what we know about claude's family, uhhhh... you know, yeah, i'd say his relationship to his entire family is pretty shitty. aside from having siblings who were making active assassination attempts on him when he was a child, his parents sure as shit didn't care enough to make him feel loved or to even bother really trying to protect him. they basically left him to fend for himself when he was "old enough" because he needed to know how to watch his own back, yadda yadda... but for a child they don't need to be learning how to survive that shit alone.
if he was nearly killed, his parents should have hugged him and cried out of fear and worry, but he was left to patch himself up and get back up. children shouldn't have to go through that (unless it's a special circumstance like their parents are dead/captive/missing/etc). claude thinks his bond with someone he just met basically a year ago is more important than family he's known his entire life.
also, just saying "now that we know each other" isn't a very high standard. you can know someone and still not truly be connected, but he's been so starved for bonds his entire life that just generally knowing a person feels more meaningful to him. that's not to discount the bond he's feeling, but that the way he phrases it makes it comes across as this is the best he's ever had. mind you, at this point byleth has mainly just been a teacher to him. there wasn't all that much bonding - especially where claude was concerned, because he didn't really open up to byleth for most of that year.
generally speaking i do dislike the way byleth is propped up so damn hard in vw at claude's constant expense, and i think this may have been one example among many, but i do also think it's a case of byleth just generally treating him better than what he's known. even when he came to fodlan, he wasn't trusted among the nobility and was still kind of on his own. he used byleth, disregarded byleth's feelings, and wasn't open about himself in any way with byleth for the majority of the year.
like, that's all it takes for his heart to be connected to someone? knowing someone for a year or so who doesn't want to kill him and is generally kind to him?
i know claude's upbringing as per his relationship with his parents (affection wise) wasn't as god awful as shinon fire emblem "my mother never hugged me" my love, but they definitely went well beyond "tough love" and it shows. :'(
a bond with someone can certainly be more than family, but most times if someone is on good terms with family, they would treat those relationships equally, i.e. not putting the friendship ahead of the family. that kind of things means someone has reason to not see them equally and that the family has done something (or they have done something, but in claude's case it's the family who did something) to make them feel trust toward someone else more.
the fact that claude's parents not only didn't give him enough love but actively did things to him (or supported it by not stopping it - yeah looking at you Tiana) probably really did put cracks in his trust and feelings with his family. like, with the information we have about his parents, i don't even know if they'd be sad if he was killed.
would they feel insulted that someone took the life of royalty? probably, yeah... but i don't know that they'd feel all that sad about it, regardless of what uwu three hopes wants us to think about claude being the favorite child, because if he is then that means the king is absolute trash to all his children. if that's how he treats his favorite child? like forget it, no wonder shahid grew up to be a pile of stinky horse dung.
posting this in 2023. still angry claude hasn't been properly hugged. vicious and feral that little baby boy claude was suffering and not getting hugs and snuggies and crawling around in blankets.
ima be honest with you, i don't really even remember his grandfather doing much of anything for him/with him/showing particular care and/or love toward him and his grandfather was still better to him than anyone else in his entire blood family.

me crying bc this route is just claude putting himself down to uplift byleth over and over in his own route
or it's meant to be his manipulation but it's handled too poorly for it to be clear if that's the case because we never get actual indication that that's what he's doing

Really wish this was explored a bit more for Lorenz's character.
Like, we know he doesn't like the situation, but I feel like VW doesn't focus enough on this as far as Lorenz's personal character.
Claude here says "naturally", meaning he understands and takes for granted that this is how the situation had to be. Gloucester was under constant threat, and both Lorenz and Erwin put their people above anything else. They couldn't risk letting them get hurt if the Empire invaded because they refused to submit. So, Claude knows how bad things are for Gloucester and understands that its leaders don't like the situation they're in.
Still though, Lorenz is very proud of his position as what he basically sees as a defender of his people/lands. Being essentially told "become a vassal to the Empire or die" didn't go over well with him, particularly seen in AM when he makes it clear he's having thoughts about fighting back against the Empire but knows it's reckless to do so at the current time, and only is able to change his mind when he sees that the Kingdom is clearly now capable of throwing a wrench fast and hard into imperial rule.
In AM he says he will convince his father to fight back now that they have the ability to do so due to the Kingdom's actions. It makes it feel like he had anger toward the situation, and he also sounds the part. In VW I feel like there's more exposition on the topic than how he feels directly about it. Is he angry? Afraid/nervous? Does he have this impulse to fight back fast and hard but knows he can't yet?
I guess I would've just liked to see more of him and Erwin having some kind of plan, like pretending Lorenz went rogue and joined Claude's army while Erwin was pretending to submit. Since this is Lorenz's home route, imo there should've been a deeper role for him here. I don't get as much of a sense of urgency and unease in this route as opposed to Lorenz at the bridge in AM. It feels more... calm/passive? But in AM it feels like he's more desperate to free Gloucester of Imperial rule and just... couldn't.
It's definitely there, but again, it's mostly explaining the situation and not telling us much about how Lorenz himself feels. It feels like they he's a character sometimes and more of just a story explaining object in the second half of VW. That's not entirely the case, but often he's used for story exposition (even when Claude is explaining his dreams/goals to everyone, he's just the person who is there to bounce the devil's advocate topics off him more than have his own personal say in the situation) and not really fully treated as an individual.
anyway what im saying is justice for lorenz bc he deserves it
