After making some polls on favorite companions/advisors in every Dragon Age game, I want to find out who is the most popular one across the series. As Tumblr allows a maximum of 12 options for polls, I took the top 3 most voted ones from the previous polls.
So, without further ado,

This!
Seriously, I don't know who posted it but there was absolutely a post going around right after Trespasser about how Solas is an RGP protagonist who is trying to start a New Game Plus.
Except all those pesky NPCs and former companions are being really annoying about that. What do you mean I can't just casually rewind time and have another go at defeating the elvhen mage-kings?
edit:
The post in question.
Solas is such a fascinating character, especially with his memories in Veilguard, because characters like that are actually INCREDIBLY common in video games but people just don't notice because normally we're playing as them, and like Solas, not really caring much about the NPC who's lives might be ruined enough to see what kind of character we're playing as. It's hard to word it, but Veilguard is like a sequel to a game that doesn't exist in which the player playing as Solas, picked all of the ruthless options and then didn't get all of the codex's or gems or sidequests or whatever to get the Golden Ending or even the Good One or whatever, but still beat the final boss.
It's very interesting because like, Bioware could have taken the cowards route and gone "oh the Evanuris were the good guys all along!" but they don't. It's like that post that went a while about how you can play the Hero of Fereldan as an absolute monster and everyone has to comes to terms with the fact that yes they ruined people lives, but also they're the reason that they still have lives.
In this way, the game states for Origins, Two, and Inquisition don't really matter all that much because the game state that actually matters is Solas's. And we don't get a say in that.
Ooh. Haven't thought about it that way. That's a really cool viewpoint, actually. I don't have much more to add.
Also do not get me wrong: I love whatever the hell genre of character Claudia Wolf and Solas are. Both slitting throats for a world where they believe will be no pain.
But, the fandom... The goddamn fandom, man.

It's SO funny that the Inquisition was, essentially, mostly a bunch of liars.
Varric is an unreliable narrator who according to Bianca tends to make up stories about what he wished would have happened. The Iron Bull is a Ben-Hassrath who will mostly act the same whether you've sacrificed the Chargers or not until *that moment* in Trespasser. Vivienne, while always frank in her opinion of you, is also absolutely a master of The Game. Sera runs with the Friends of Jenny, appears immature and pulls pranks on people, yet she does it with such skills that she is rarely caught. Solas is Solas. Blackwall/Thom Rainier? NO ONE does it like him. The advisors are not exempt either. While Leliana is obviously a spymaster, Josephine can and will destroy someone's reputation with nothing but a glove planted somewhere compromising. And Cullen? Is really cagey about his time as a templar. Even the Inquisitor is a fraud. Willingly or not, you gain an army because people believe that you are the Herald of Andraste. Which is patently false.
Then there's Cassandra Allegra Portia Calogera Filomena Pentaghast, Seeker of TRUTH. Cole, whose job is to blurt everyone's secrets aloud. And Dorian, who left the nest of backstabbing vipers that is Tevinter, only to traipse through sand and snow and mud with this organization of lying liars.

i need everyone to consider vivienne and dorian bonding over taking care of the inquisitor after the end of dragon age inquisition as the mark progressively gets worse and worse. vivienne with her past of watching bastien get sicker and sicker and dorian doing the same with felix, and seeing it repeat with the inquisitor. take my hand 🖐,,

.... Anyone else flashback to the banters between Solas and Bull in Inquisition where they played a mental chess game and Solas won because of a play with a pawn? And how he slowly inched that pawn across the board during those banters? (Like he positions Rook and helps slowly "inch" them across the "board" to checkmate the Gods?)
Or about the banters between Solas and Sera about the Friends of Red Jenny, and how he couldn't really wrap his mind around the group's entire goal just being help in small ways without any significant goal truly in mind? (Like how he couldn't wrap his mind around facing, accepting, and processing regrets the way Rook does to escape the Fade prison because he's always thinking too big picture and grand purposes)
Or, perhaps one of the most interesting, the banters between Solas and Varric about Orzammar and how it is in the current time of the games? (And how all the questions Solas asks echoes or points to both what happened to the Elvhen empire and what he intends to do to try to fix his mistake?)
Or the banter where Viv asks if Solas enjoys seeing himself as the villain? And their banters discussing the Circle, and Viv's political prowess, and how "in another age" she "would've ruled an empire?"
Or banters with Dorian about spirits and magic, and how they are used in Tevinter? And on slavery in general? (And how those conversations are a very big part of Dorian actually thinking about the slaves in Tevinter in a meaningful way)
Or with Cassandra about the burdens of leadership and how Cass stepped aside from leading/making decisions for the Inquisition as a whole cause she recognized/felt she wasn't the one to wield such power? Or the one where Cass wonders if the Archdemons are "pets" to beings who no longer exist?
Anyone else thinking about the banters that weren't with Cole about spirits and how to "ground" one's self in the real world, or with Blackwall about being men that have seen war and done cruel things and have had to live a lie until caught in the lie? But were more about the nuances of lives lived and currently being lived; and the status quo and how it was vs how it is vs how it maybe should be; and the very core of his being and true beliefs and how he could find some kind of echo of each with the members of the Inquisition, reflecting and foiling in turn?
Just me? Cool, cool, cool

Happy Valentine's Day! 💞
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted to romance Dorian, but having a female Inquisitor made it impossible. Next in line was Cullen, but little did I know Solas would capture the heart of my Lavellan 🧝🏼‍♀️
I made my own canon where my girl got together with Cullen after Solas left her. However, in Veilguard, she leaves him behind and reunites with her one true love in the Fade 💚

Corypheus is so ironic in a way. Man was one of the horrible Magisters who broke into the Golden City. Saw the Evanuris instead of the Maker, got out blighted, was put to sleep and woken up by someone named Hawke. Then he basically said "Fuck it, if those assholes from the Black City can claim to be gods, so can I" and he essentially copied their homeworks. He went exactly the same path they did. He even tried to make an archdemon of his own.

Its a cool idea but don't think Vivienne would care enough about the Inquisitor or Dorian to do that. She has no reason to stick around after the game ends
Tumblr media Tumblr media
that post was actually specifically based on this dialogue from the trespasser dlc, where we see vivienne clearly showing concern for the inquisitor and at the very least a willingness to work together with dorian to help them! and i'd have to very firmly disagree on the idea that vivienne doesn't care about dorian or the inquisitor. like. very firmly, lol.

You can love a character and still admit when they’re wrong. I love Solas but can acknowledge his flaws (he has none) and can hold him accountable for his wrongdoings (he’s never done anything wrong in his life) and call him out for his actions (which are always correct).
