Cyclops gets such a rough deal man. imagine having brain damage that caused you to uncontrollably shoot laser blasts out of your eyeballs destroying everything in sight that you had to worry about literally 24/7 and also you had to supervise teenagers throwing cars at each other because your father figure and his ex are taking leftist infighting to the streets and also on top of that whenever you show any amount of concern over this situation people are like "jeez what a buzzkill. loosen up control freak. why can't you be all chill and cool like wolverine" meanwhile wolverine is having his amygdala forcibly removed by the us military for the third time this month

How to read X-Men?

For the dear X-Men fans that came in through 97 (or the movies) and are confused as to where to start the comics! Don't let the internet fool you, there is only one way and it is by starting with Giant size X-Men #1 (1975). No I am not kidding, it truly is the only right way to get the full story😭 (unless you want to go ALL THE WAY to 1963, I don't necessarily think it's that vital)

This is me trying to keep ppl from making the same mistake I did, starting with wheadon's astonishing X-Men ☠️

This is to get ALL the context and major story arcs still referenced today. So I believe it to be vital for the other eras. (I don't know how you can fully understand jean and Scott's relationship today without having read inferno or dark phoenix for example)

Now, If you just wanna read for one specific character, that's a different story! Character specific reading guides that concentrate on the important issues across time exist! Look for those they're very useful <3

Too Complex To Be Understood

Characters from completely different Universes that have surprisingly much in common:

Here's what they have in common:

- have a brother;

- have ailments that are like disabilities;

- enter another world (literally or figuratively) where they take a leadership position, reluctant at first;

- meet the love of their life in the other world;

- form a neural connection (permanent or temporary) with their beloved;

- have a great sense of duty and responsibility to subordinates and loved ones, because of which they can not afford to relax, constantly expect something bad;

- become legends in their lifetime;

- are the only ones who can stop their fierce wives from doing unnecessary evil;

- became fathers at the same age (~22-23 years old);

- both have three children, two boys and a girl;

- lost their firstborn;

- despite being essentially central characters, more than half the people familiar with their franchises don't understand or like them;

- the firstborns have similarly consonant names (Neteyam and Nathan);

- last names start with "Su";

- the firstborn was raised to be the leader of the clan.
