I love when people’s argument for why they’re allowed to be mean to customer service workers is “I did my time in customer service” ah so you Do know how it works and you are choosing to be cruel even with that information! That is worse
#not that that means you know how it works at any job you haven’t worked btw#especially if it’s a whole different genre of customer service but even just store to store u don’t know how it works#but you’ve had the basic experience. and happily contribute to that for others. knowingly evil <3#mine#txt#retail#fuck customers

Shoutout to that one customer I had years ago who cried while I explained a product to her and told me that my "confident way of speaking sounded arrogant and made her feel uncomfortable."
Really hope you got some help and are doing better.

got a good grade in work today (sold $1300 worth of swimwear in a single transaction and the regional manager told my store manager to tell me she’s impressed)
#to be fair this was not so much my sales skills and moreso that this lady was just stupid wealthy and not picky#like she tried one bikini top on and then was content with just getting me to grab her the same size in everything she pointed at#despite me letting her know things might fit differently depending on the style#but still felt very good to send through the little super sale email after my my first few closes were all on days we made close to zero#which is not my fault at all it’s just because no customers are coming in at this time of year to buy eggs benny swimwear#plus the store location is just in a bit of a dead spot#anyways feeling v lucky to have nailed a super sale four weeks into being employed#especially on account of the way i’m a nepo hire with no retail sales experience and a four year gap in my resume#personal

so yesterday at the theatre this woman arrived really late (like, really late, approaching an hour after the show had started), and I gave her the spiel of how we can only let latecomers in at specific times and she'll have to wait a few minutes, and gave her a rundown of the plot she'd missed
and then I stood with her at her entrance, in the dark bc we're behind the curtain that keeps the light out of the auditorium, waiting for the song to end so I can show her to her seat during the applause
there's maybe half a minute to go and suddenly this woman turns to me and says "I'm only so late bc everything got so chaotic. you see, I just got engaged --"
I prepare to say congratulations or something
"-- to my ex boyfriend --"
the congratulations are still coming, though with an added bit of surprise/confusion
"-- so before I came here I had to break up with my current boyfriend."
I don't know what my brain or face are doing but I'm pretty sure I gape at her for a moment and then go "okay I hope congratulations is still appropriate here...?"
and she assures me that oh yes absolutely it's a good thing after all! so ok at least she's happy. "My ex boyfriend is also the father of my child, after all, so" she adds, with the air of a woman expecting that to make everything she said so far make sense, and before I can react to that in any way I have to open the door and get her to her seat, knowing that I will never talk to her again and full of so incredibly many questions

tumblr users want soooo bad to find a reason to call people losers pleaseeeee let tumblr users call strangers on the internet losers <3
#'important to not being a loser'#kindergarten behavior we love to see it#and also#countless other experiences you could have that don't involve#being miserable in retail/customer service because you need money to survive#would lead you to be a more content person overall#but we're not talking about that are we? no we're talking about who's a ~loser~ and who isn't. ugh#personal

The Power of the Five Senses: Boosting Visual Merchandising | Vision Board Studio
Boost customer engagement through multi-sensory activities is crucial in a competitive market. Instead of overwhelming them with information and products, focus on creating an immersive brand experience with visual merchandising that allows them to connect with your brand on a deeper level.
To encourage customers to spend more time in your store, start by introducing them to new collections and engaging them with your latest offerings. This helps build an authentic connection with your brand. You are offering a welcoming atmosphere which will further enhance customer experience. Thoughtful presentation and personalized packaging can significantly boost brand interest and loyalty.
Here are some ideas to engage your customers’ senses through retail marketing strategies
Hearing: To improve customer’s shopping experience use music to influence the shopping environment. The right customer engagement strategies for selecting perfect playlists with slower rhythms and softer beats can create a relaxing atmosphere, encouraging customers to browse more leisurely.
Sight: Visual appeal is the first impression your client will encounter. Employ colours that complement your jewellery and are pleasing to the eye. The right colour schemes can guide attention to key products which are the main aspects of product merchandising. Additionally, effective lighting is crucial for showcasing jewellery, making it stand out and catch the eye.
Touch: The main aspect of retail merchandising is that products that are easily accessible and in their line of sight can enhance their tactile experience. Allowing customers to handle and try on jewellery can make it easier for them to influence purchasing decisions.
Smell: Leverage the strong link between scent and memory. A signature aroma can evoke emotional connections, enhancing brand recall and fostering customer loyalty.
Taste: Offer seasonal refreshments as a thoughtful touch. This reflects positively on your brand and creates a pleasant and memorable shopping experience. incorporating the taste factor as a part of the retail merchandising ideas can prove highly beneficial to retailers.
By thoughtfully incorporating these sensory elements, you can create a more engaging and memorable experience that stands out in a crowded market. Taking the services from experienced merchandising companies can help retailers come up with innovative retail strategies to increase sales turnover and retain new customers.

and yknow what. saying this as someone who has been in a work environment where i was ACTUALLY the only one who knew what i was doing and i was the only one capable of keeping things running, including the person who was technically in charge of me*:
even if izzy was right. even if izzy was the only one who kept ed's ship actually running. hell, even if lucius, pete, and wee john were actually slacking off when there was important things to be done!!
you do not effectively lead a team by yelling at them and telling everyone how useless they are and how much they suck. you don't get people to get off their ass and do their fucking job by screaming "BITCH" in their face. you don't!! get things done!!! if you just stand there and tell other people what to do!!!!!
*which is v much not the case w izzy and ed but i have seen this written into some fics, for some fucking reason
#sorry i know i said i wasnt arguing that izzy is bad at his job lol#i kept it off that other post bc that's not about how good he is at his job. but man...#having been in the “im surrounded by idiots” only-competent-employee situation everyone describes izzy in#i gotta say that if izzy's job is primarily managing people. he fucking SUCKS at it#txt#meta#mine#og#izzy hands#izzy critical#ofmd#our flag means death#ofmd meta#anyway the work experience was retail pharmacy and let me tell you. big-name pharmacies are a fucking shitshow#the turnover was awful so we were always staffed by people who didn't know what they were doing#i was only there for two years but turnover was so fast i ended up being the lead employee somehow#so i was ACTUALLY in charge of making sure people did their jobs. unlike izzy in e5 lmao#and when our pharmacists took vacation we'd have a substitute pharmacist come in and they almost always sucked#sometimes the sub pharmacist was worse at their job than the people who were there on their first day#i was on my feet all day and i was yelled at by customers non-stop and there's literally no way to count people's prescriptions fast enough#especially when you have new employees who count the fucking pills one at a time#and yeah i had a few coworkers who were like. always on their phone or always chatting instead of doing their job#and it was VERY annoying. even when they were nice and i liked them as people i HATED working with them#somehow i found the inner strength to not be a dick to them!! crazy stuff!!!

I hate how every job says they're looking for a person like this because I am none of those things? Where are the jobs willing to pay top dollar for an unmotivated unprofessional cold unpersonable non starter who is disorganized and pays very little attention to detail?
#also i wish my guidance counselor in high school had sat me down and said dont go to college without a career plan#instead of what he did do which was tell me my grades are so good i absolutely should go to college#wish he had said at least make sure you get an aa in like accounting or something to fall back on#am i bitter about never finding a job that uses my degree that wouldnt also include needing grad school?#kinda#capitalism makes fools of us all#crap#its shut down week at the ethanol plant that does nothing with my english or fine art degrees#and also nothing with my 15 years of retail and customer service experience either lmao#i fucking hate shut down so much it is inevitable i start thinking of quitting even tho i am making more money than i have in my life#how fucking insane is it that jobs that require a masters degree will pay 15 an hour and yet this job that requires a ged at most starts at#like 25 and this plant actually starts low judging by what other plants are offering like damn#every job ive ever had needed no degree at all how much farther ahead would i be if id just gone straight to work?#like i fucking loved the college experience but it didnt do a fucking thing for me other than saddle me with life crushing debt

it's so weird. i don't usually correct people on my dog's sex because she doesn't care, she's a dog with a name that could go either way, and often times people ask. but on the off chance they don't ask and i do correct them-- usually when someone says "good boy" to her more than once-- they're so quick to correct themselves and apologize to the dog. but when i correct someone about myself they pretty much do the opposite and essentially respond with a "nuh-uh, no you're not" and that's the ""nice"" way of putting it. it's unnecessarily rude and i'm just tired. it's so easy to be kind and you can literally make someone's day, i don't get why they feel the need to go out of their way to be mean. the dog tax because i love my silly animal with my whole heart. look at my good girl!!! ✨✨✨
#red rambles#was walking B this morning and these old ladies who walk in the neighborhood passed by#i could have sworn they knew biscuit was a girl but i guess not so i gently corrected them#they were sweet. truly were but it just reminded me of a very bad experience when i was working retail#it essentially boiled down to me asking a customer to not call me maam and he threw a huge tantrum#cursing at me yelling at my management and my coworker and just saying awful things and throwing threats#im surprised no one got hurt#i still have a hard time correcting people about myself. hurts both ways. damned if i do damned if i dont kind of thing
