Cupiditas (Latin: Cupid Desire)

Cupiditas are known to be vengeful creatures who can hold grudges for a very long time. If any of their loved ones are wronged in any way, they will avenge them, usually by making the Amor de Infierno. They do not care much for the lives of others outside of their own family and are willing to kill anyone who stands in the way of them achieving their own brand of vindictive justice. Lacking any particular physical prowess in their woged state, they resort to using their intelligence and sneaky, cunning behavior to their advantage.

Edit: @basically-dead-artist reminded me that the antagonists were most likely named after the seven deadly sins and have latin names so Cupiditas could mean greed or lust depending on the context

Freaklet’s Father, the most Wretched villain of the last century, a man whose criminal background exceeded any villains' wildest dreams in Statua City. A Man who one day, stumbled upon ancient rituals performed by his ancestors by pilfering around in an old home he’d inherited from his grandparents. He found old rituals detailing the creation of old magic tools forged from the blood of magical beasts, an old near-powerless ring, and the aforementioned rituals which also detailed the summoning of the spirits of the beasts whose flesh became the tools man in ancient time used to conquer the world.

Summoning a Demon of Pride, he went on to massacre both friend and foe, leaving a horrific scene of ash and blood wherever he travelled. Doing it all for money and fun, the egotistical man was slain at the height of his reign of terror after the Demon he’d summoned gained enough sacrifice to become a Devil. She’d learn of his betrayal, and in violation of their original contract she killed him and remained dormant.

The news will have you believe the former Hero of Selflessness, now retired, had been responsible for ending the horrific duo. However, this is only partly true. As she sat, completely lost in her newly acquired mortality as a Devil feeling the once lost sense of a heartbeat that the spirits of old once mourned, a spear was plunged into her back and her damned soul was sent back to hell from which she originally began.

Returning to hell with her accomplishments made her one of the top matriarchs of the underworld. She grew to despise the disrespectful nature of other devils, instilling in her only child the kind of nature that would ultimately contradict her wishes later in their life. Raising a child that’d ultimately be very bad at being a villain. While she had high hopes for their own reign of terror, Malice grew to be a rather respectable youth and despite his mischief nobody ever came to be harmed by “The Freak”, or Freaklet as everyone knows them.

Malicious was raised by his mother to never disrespect her, but what she had not realized, was that she did not clarify that it was only her that they had to respect... Fortunately for Freaklet though, despite everything that happens, they end up finding contentedness, and happiness with their life. Being proud of what they’ve accomplished and protecting the people and the things they hold dear to them. Despite not becoming the Demon she’d hoped, Freaklet does become something that their mother ends up finding peace with. 

Because at the least, Freaklet will never be that man.

Bouquets for Gabban! 

This was getting a little ridiculous. Where was he going to put all of these flowers anyway? Not that he actually minded, nor did he want the gift giving to stop. Gabban had a sneaking suspicion who this ´S´ was supposed to be and wondered if the previous batch were all from the same sender. Though the thought of there being more than one person vying for his affections was truly…Intoxicating.

Bang Brave Bang Bravern Prediction

I am making a bet right now that "an extreme desire/passion at the moment of death turns you into a giant robot to come back and do your life over more satisfyingly to you" is going to be repeated again in this show. Smith wanted to be a hero, he wanted to be Brave, so he came back again as Bravern. All the Deathdrives are named after deadly sins/human failings and they're seeking to die in a manner that appropriately suits their name (Cunus/Lust wanted to die in a moment of erotic pleasure, Vanitas wanted to die glamorously, Cupiditas/Greed wanted to die in the biggest explosion possible, and kept coming back until it was big enough). If this show's eventual theme isn't "live passionately enough to fulfill your desires that you don't have to come back and do it again," I'll eat my hat.

Theory:

What if that's not what the DeathDrive's names are? What if Bravern just gives them names to make them seem more evil and menacing?

Superbia? Cupiridas(most likely the actual spelling is Cupiditas)?

Those are all Latin words for the Seven Deadly sins.

So what if they all don't actually have names? Why would they name themselves Earth concepts? They never actually introduce themselves(from what I remember), and it's always Bravern saying who they are.

Instead, I propose this.

Bravern created all the DeathDrives and their towers are like giant 3D printers that specifically makes that type of DeathDrive while also making a Lulu. We know he has a 3D printer but the questions is, How did he build a 3D Printer? We see it in Bravern's room on the Aircraft carrier. But we never see him build it or anyone else.

And in the episode, we also see Bravern making things like a Model kit would be made. So what if all Deathdrives are built like giant model kits in their Towers? That's probably a Stretch but it could also be canon who knows?

And now we need to talk about the amount of towers left. They said 6 more. Why 6? Wasn't Superbia's tower destroyed? Shouldn't there be 5 if they're based on the 7 Deadly sins? That's my first thought. But then I made this theory. The last Tower Belongs to Bravern.

And where is the last Tower?

It's the Tower from Outer space! The Ship itself!

We've never touched upon what the Ship that transported those towers could be. We've been very focused on the Towers we've never talked about the source. Bravern has never touched upon the main ship itself but rather keeps saying to destroy the towers and all of Mankind will be safe. It made us forget that the ship is still up there in space.

I know there are theories for Bravern to be a DeathDrive, but what if he is the Creator of the Deathdrives? Hence why he knows them. Both personally and literally.

Just to clear things up since I've seen some eng bravern fans confused about whether or not Cupiridas's name is supposed to be spelled Cupiditas or not, his name *is* actually Cupiridas! (クピリダス)

They likely misspelled the sin on purpose just to make it sound the way they wanted it to

Update on this post 3/5/2024: this may not entirely be accurate, my apologies. The website lists the English spelling as Cupiditas, but the Japanese katakana indicate that it's pronounced as Cupiridas, and the characters in the show also pronounce it as Cupiridas, not Cupiditas. I'm not entirely sure how that works, but it's just the way it is.

Saw your post and genuinley wondering: what is wrong with the bravern sub? Dont think i've seen anyone talk about it but i also got into bravern fairly recent so *shrugs*

hey anon!!! sorry if i caused any confusion, that post was kind of a joke lmao. there are a few issues with the bravern subs, but they are mostly minor, imo:

why did they translate "gattai" as "fusion". why is it not "combine". this honestly might not even be incorrect but it bugs me way more than it should FLSKDJHF, it just feels like such a strange choice when a "combining robot show" is like. a known phrase used in english-language discussion of mecha anime, and everywhere else i've seen it translated it is "combine" rather than "fusion"

there are a number of places in the script where the subs use strange spellings or just swap out words completely. like for example, the crunchyroll subs call the deathdrives "cupiridas", "knuth", and "popalchipum", whereas the official site calls them "cupiditas", "cunus", and "paupertipum". also, crunchyroll likes to translate バーン as "burn" when the official site indicates that it should probably be "bang", so there's some discrepancy with bravern's forms like "burn/bang bravern"……which like since it's spelled phonetically i kind of understand but also it's in the show's title. LMAO. also for whatever reason the final/golden form of isami-bravern is called "burn brave big bang" in the subs but "bang brave big bravern" on the site ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

this one's really the only one that fucks up the understanding someone might have of the show, and it's that in episode 8, knuth(/cunus lmao) has the line "i had this feeling deep inside that i couldn't share with anyone." but it's actually supposed to be referring to SMITH'S feeling deep inside that HE couldn't share with anyone. which again, i get why it happened bc in the japanese language a lot of times the subject can be dropped and that is most likely what happened here………..but. like. smith's "deep feeling" of gay love for isami is the driving force of bravern's VERY EXISTENCE so it feels like kind of an important line to get right!!

so yeah, mostly i was just shitting on crunchyroll for not caring about mecha FLSKJDH, there aren't huge issues from what i am aware of!! and it all just seems like earnest mistakes rather than anything malicious or whatever, but it does sadden me to know that there likely won't be any incentive for CR to go back and fix them 😔
