#Crowley is Orpheus

uh oh. I imagined Crowley and Aziraphale as Orpheus and Eurydice.

do you think yourself to be better than the people written into myths?

do you think about orpheus and eurydice and laugh at their tragedy?

do you think yourself to be above orpheus' mistake, knowing better than to turn around, to lose everything simply to see if your love is following?

aziraphale followed god in his faith, praying, believing, begging her to take the shape of his wishes so his faith would persist. make it to the top, follow your faith to the end of the line, and your life will begin anew, better, solid, not a belief but a promise.

yet as he walked for six thousand years, he kept turning around, never stopping but hesitating, loosing his footing again and again. keep walking, crowley told him, walking along his own string of faith.

was orpheus' mistake truly turning around? we know how the myth ends, not how it could have gone, which means every belief carries a piece of truth in it.

upon reaching the earth, would eurydice appear behind him, warm, alive, real, or would he fall to his knees and weep in the shadow of a shade?

maybe he should have clung to his faith. maybe he should have turned around again and again and again, until he stilled and came face to face with his eurydice, his crowley.

faith in the gods, faith in god, is a never-ending staircase with a light always just out of reach. just one more step, one more prayer, surely now they have reached the surface? more dirt. always more dirt. no voice in the silence, no footsteps either, but when he turns he can see him breathe, can hear the air rushing through his body.

every breath a prayer answered, every step proof of faith, and orpheus never saw his eurydice again, so are we above them? are they? could you believe in someone and follow them out of hell based on nothing but a prayer?

one day, aziraphale tells him, one day. so crowley follows. so he prays. they slow, walking side by side, one forwards, one backwards, and with the first touch of light on his skin, hope begins to bloom.

at last, crowley thinks, and then he stops. orpheus turned, yet that is not what breaks their faith, it is aziraphale's foot sliding down a step, one single step. faith in the dirt they escaped, faith in the hells, faith in the voices echoing in the dark, faith in god.

never, he realises then, never faith in me.

eurydice returned to the shadows, but crowley is no orpheus, he will not dig with bare hands and bruised knuckles until the earth swallows him again. he will not sing a song of mourning and broken hearts.

crowley sits in the sun and waits. he won't climb. he will wait and he will offer a hand back to the light; it is his turn to turn around.

aziraphale faces another staircase and begins to walk, step after step after step. faith? after the next corner, surely. faith? any moment now. faith in the silent sound of his steps, faith in the love resting on the surface.

orpheus or eurydice, both damned, torn apart for eternity? whose faith broke and who persevered?

does it matter?

Hadestown is a great musical about abusive capitalistic systems and tragic separations. good omens is a great show/book about abusive capitalistic systems that involves a tragic separation, they both have themes of hope versus realistic pessimism… I just think Hadestown and GOmens should kiss.

Look look look Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship up until the end of season 2 is Orpheus and Euridice’s romance. The tragedy, the looking baackkkk. Persephone and Hades’ fraught relationship could be a dark timeline for Azi and Crowley after the ineffable divorce where Crowley’s a drunk Persephone and Hades’ parts are split between Aziraphale (sad, romance) and the Metatron (evil capitalistic songs).

100 fics

Today I posted my 100th fic on Ao3!

My first was Pottery; or Function, Purpose and Heart on Mar 11, 2023. It was a retired Dreamling fic with Destruction (who I call Joe) as the main character.

I moved fairly quickly into my Spy x Family crossover series. Anya is so cute, and throwing her in with Dreamling and the Endless family led to a lot of fun shenanigans! (Generally you don't need to know Spy x Family canon to follow these.)

Next I started on my Sandman x Scooby Doo shenanigans! I really like the Scooby Gang, and there are definitely some mysteries to solve surrounding the Endless! (With awesome art by @sab-draws!)

Gaulcienne caught my eye next. Lucienne, my beloved librarian, and the shape-changing dream-fairy? Oh yes! A Quiet Love with Wings has most of my commissioned art, with pieces by @athymelyreply for Sometimes when You Fall, You Fly, @ibrithir-was-here for Fireflies and a Missing Person, and @designtheendless for The Dragon Rider!

King of Night and Prince of Day, for @nathanwonderwolf's wonderful art, has the second highest kudos of all my fics.

Then I invented an OC who is the preteen personification of the consciousness of humanity, aka Social Media. I thought this was pure crack but people liked it and now it's a series! Dinner and Play was created with @carnelianmeluha's food ideas in mind!

My Dreamling works tend to be short and sweet, often prompted by something on tumblr or discord, and are collected as Dreamling vignettes.

I have recently written (but not yet posted) my first honest to god smut, but early dabbles in the craft were mostly crack, like my Helm Fucking Crack series. I'm unreasonably proud of how cracked it is, and thank everyone who enabled me (notably @sleepsonfutons, @windsweptinred, @tickldpnk8, @zzoomacroom, read their fics!).

My obsession with Fuckboi Dream (mind the tags) is ongoing, and included creating a chapter index with notes so I can find things, a series about Murphy's childhood (somebody please read these, they are so cute), and others, fanart as well!

In The Dragon's Tongue, Lucienne takes on Titania! I commissioned @lostelfwriting to write the bdsm continuation of the scene, and she did a fantastic job!

A Reunion in the Dreaming (picnic recreated here) was the first fic in Walking with the Walkers, my series about Rose, Jed and Unity. It features Rose and Ara (Barbie transformed in Life is but a Dream), Rose and Jed meeting their Endless family members, Jed and Gault having adventures, and Unity throwing family parties in the Dreaming (with art by @ilya-halfelven).

Trials of a Shapeshifter in Love (in which Gault tries to surprise Lucienne with a romantic dinner) was my favourite fic from October 2023 -- Femslash weekend (by @sandmanfemslashfans ) and Monsterfucktober (by @seiya-starsniper and friends) made it a really fun month! I also wrote Chantal and Zelda, Johanna and Death, and zombie Lyta (my most angsty fic, I believe).

Just Get Me Off the Damn Mountain was written for designtheendless' contest and omg, I won! It is my most popular fic, at 185 kudos!

I also wrote an OG story for NaNoWriMo! At 23k, Wander Witch is by far my longest story (the next longest is under 9k).

After a bit of being stuck, I got started again by writing continuations of @gabessquishytum's asks! Thank you to Gabe and to all the anons and contributors who allowed me to post their parts of the story!

Asmi, @weirdly-specific-but-ok, argued that he does not have a fandom, so (with permission) I proved him wrong by writing fanfic where he meets Crowley and the Maggot Fam. I love you, Asmi and the maggots!

Heading on an Adventure, the story of Rose and Orpheus' road trip, led to a series of library adventures for Lucienne (often featuring Meowpheus), starting with The Library Cat and continuing in the Lucienne my Beloved series.

I wanted more Lucienne and Walkers content, so I started a side blog, @lucienne-my-beloved, and am open to prompts there! On ao3, the series is called ficlets for lucienne.

Hob Meets the Doctor June 7, 2389 and The line I will not cross and the line I will (Gaulcienne) are my space fics, and I am unreasonably happy about them!

I'm now writing for @augustwritingchallenge! (They got me over 100 in my wips a week or two ago!) I combined prompts so you'll see a fic every 2-5 days in various series and fandoms, including Good Omens (Aug 30) and Dead Boy Detectives (soon).

And my 100th fic! Why are you whispering? a Jed and Rose fic for the late night call prompts. Woohoo!

Just need to recommend this utterly stunning two part Good Omens fanfiction The Place you Need to Reach by Zetared.

This fic is written right before the first season of the show was released.

First part is called The Persephone Clause. Set after the Non-Apocalypse Crowley is recalled to Hell and Aziraphale traverses the 9 circles of Hell to rescue him.

The Orpheus Cure is the second part of the story and you need to read the first part to understand what’s going on. I don’t want to describe this part because it gives away what happens in the first part, but let me tell you IT IS EPIC. It definitely rivals anything I think we will ever get out of season 3 and is now on my list of fics of “What I would like to have if season 3 doesn’t go ahead”.

If anyone has read these fics can you please point me in the direction of any fanart that’s been made, because it they surely be amazingly epic and gorgeous if any has been made, especially of the later chapters.

I’m still getting into Song of Achilles fics, but there’s a few of them and a few crossovers too.

And for my name, there’s a kinda long story behind it, but the short version is my grandad used to call me Nerdy or clever or anything like that, he always said being smart and working hard to be smart was the best thing a person could do and I really looked up to him as everything I wanted to be when I grew up. Then when I came online in lockdown during Covid, it was just a whim that stuck to go by Nerd, or ThatNerd on Ao3 but the user was taken so I added bits till I found something available. After he died, it became more sentimental but generally it was just a lockdown thing that stuck.
