Regarding the popular theory that Crowley might have been Archangel Raphael. I came across John Dee's writings on Enochian magic—and he claims to have been having frequent conversations with said angel. So either Raphael wasn't among the fallen ones in the 16th century...or John Dee was actually talking to a demon in disguise :) Either is possible, I guess, especially because Crowley definitely was in London at that time (when Hamlet was staged), so technically he could pay a visit to John Dee. And as we all know, he's good at pretending to be one of the heavenly host :)

Crowley being Raphael and creating the stars and being so cool because he knows where all of the constellations are is literally my favorite head cannon that the Good Omens fandom has produced.
As for my favorite au? Reverse Omens!

The Truth Remains
Fandom: Good Omens Pairing: Aziraphale/Crowley Word Count: 200k Rating: Link: -> Read Fic ->
Summary:
Raphael had been the third angel ever created, and he’d raised himself first with Michael’s clumsy help. Then he’d turned around and raised three more siblings, and loved them all so fiercely it hurt. He'd loved Aziraphale too, more than either of them really knew. And then, he fell. He lost everything. The bond he held with his siblings was ripped away, leaving an aching, empty void. And while he still has Aziraphale, the angel doesn't recognize the archangel who taught him how to care about the Earth. And Crowley refuses to tell him who he was, or how Aziraphale's voice is the one thing that can soothe the ache in his soul that wants, so badly, to feel a connection again. A story through the ages as an angel and a demon come to terms with their shared past.

Summary:
Crowley, as humans would say, is a creative soul.
He has created an endless of things throughout his existence.
Curiosity is one of them.
Crowley, as humans would say, is a creative soul.
During his life on earth Crowley had created a lot of things; He created sunglasses, high heels and came up with Facebook and the M25. Before that he invented makeup, red pigment and low heels.
He also made up a lot of expressions, and funny names, just to have a few laughs.
He was the muse of a lot of artists, and advisor to a lot of inventors.
Of curse, before being Crowley he had been Raphael.
Raphael had created the Nebulae, and consequently, he created the stars, he had meticulously designed most of them, where they would be, how they would begin to shine, and when their brightness would go out to make way for new stars. He had created many planets too, large and small, but mostly empty. Just star dust, gases and metals.
It was his masterpiece.
Or at least everyone would think so.
During his entire existence, he had created many things that he had regretted at some point, but there was one thing that he would always stand firm on.
Curiosity.
Raphael, from the moment God created him, had had something that differentiated him from the rest of the angels (and at some point from the rest of the demons), and that was imagination.
From the moment he opened his eyes (metaphorically, of course), his mind had been occupied by colorful ideas and thoughts.
It wasn't until God announced his new project that Raphael became a creator.
But to create things you need to know things.
And Raphael, unlike other angels, had always been deficient in that.
But he didn't ask questions back then, mainly because those weren't a thing back then.
After creating the galaxy, Raphael discovered (with the help of an adorable principality) about these "humans." His entire creation was only meant to be nothing more than wallpaper for them.
Why?
When Raphael took out the Galaxy from him, he snuck into other departments to see what they were doing in this project called "humans" and "planet earth". Why were these blessed humans so important?
It turns out that not only were humans being created, there were also these creatures called "animals" and "plants".
And oh, he had so many questions.
He NEEDED to know.
He was so curious; How? When? Why?
Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
That question was repeated a lot in heaven later.
Lucifer especially liked it.
All the angels who were there to hear Raphael's questions were the same ones who were there to repeat them.
It was like a dam broke; The angels, who had never asked or needed knowledge beyond what was strictly necessary, began to question.
God did not offer many answers.
The angels began to argue. And it soon went from an issue about questions and answers to a complete revolution.
And when God tore the grace from him from that third of angels and cast them into his new invention, "hell", Raphael was personally called before God.
You caused this
I know.
...
An angel is not meant to create, nor to be curious. Angels build, and obey, nothing more than that.
Angels are not meant to doubt me... But you did.
Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
God didn't ask. God never asks questions.
God burned his wings, tore his grace from him and threw him into hell.
Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
The demons liked questions. They asked many things all the time. But no one had yet invented a good answer.
The remaining angels took the unfinished work of their companions, and finished it according to God's orders.
When Crawley saw the humans in Eden, he knew.
Angels were not meant to be curious.
But someone, some angel in some careless moment, had given humans curiosity, and made it a primordial instinct.
And it was so beautiful.
He saw them explore the environment, he saw them name what they saw, he saw them ask questions, ask God things. And he saw God respond.
And that was the first time in his entire existence that he saw curiosity being satisfied.
He longed for it.
That day he decided. He liked to imagine, he liked to create, he liked to ask questions and he liked to be curious.
He saw the white-haired angel in the chasm of the wall. He wondered if he remembered him from those times when the concept of time was barely on the metaphorical workbench.
He discovered that he also liked to satisfy his curiosity.

I still am very much in love with the idea that Crowley was Raphael. Especially after how he was able to access the Gabriel document.
I hope we get to see more next season.

#The way they probably erased Crowley's memory of heaven. Also the way Crowley offered a hot chocolate to Gabriel just after even though he still hated him because he knew how it feels to remember nothing (insp from this post by @perpetualcontrolleddrowning)

I’ve always liked this theory, but:
1. Mr. Gaiman seems pretty adament that this is just a fan theory. Instead of leaving it open for discussion, he seems to close it down pretty quickly.
2. Raphael is considered an Archangel. And since the series seems to use the commonly known Heirarchy of Angels, both Thrones and Dominions are much higher ranking than Archangels. So, unless this series’ version of Raphael is not considered an Archangel, I think he may have been someone else entirely.

I haven't always been a demon.
