fall field crickets (Gryllus pennsylvanicus) are charming heralds of the coming autumn, dressed in golden wing-vests and sporting perfectly round shiny heads.

meanwhile, the tiny juvenile Gryllus hopping around now aren’t their kids—they’re baby spring field crickets (G. veletis), a species that overwinters as a half-grown nymph rather than eggs. the two are very similar in appearance although in my area I think G. veletis has a much darker set of wings. I’ll have to wait a few months to show you one of those!

something a little different - a (very) short animated film! I created this as a midterms project for a sound production course. I'm not that fond of animation but I had fun conceptualizing and making this video :)
