Kotan-kar-kamuy, the supreme Ainu creator god. Their name directly translates to Creator, Home maker, or World maker spirit. Kotan-kar-kamuy is said to have manifested the cosmos upon the back of a mighty trout. Kotan-kar-kamuy is also responsible for the creation of the Kamuy, mighty deities who govern over the many aspects of the world. Kotan-kar-kamuy is said to sit atop the hierarchy of the heavenly Kamuy. There has been whispers of a counter part to this great Kamuy, a dark and evil one who originates the dastardly kunne-kamuy, however this god’s origins are shrouded in mystery as even speaking about it can bring about its wrath. Kotan-kar-kamuy battled this demon when it consumed the sun Kamuy: Tokapcup-kamuy. Despite Kotan-kar-kamuy’s victory, every morning that same evil attempts to swallow the sun once more, but Kotan-kar-kamuy banishes the demon back into the abyss in the form of a flock of crows.
Kotan-kar-kamuy fills the supreme god mythological niche. But the unique thing about Kotan-kar-kamuy is that it also acts as a chief deity of sorts. While John Batchelor (a Christian missionary who studied and lived among the Ainu for many years) compared Kotan-kar-kamuy to the Abrahamic god, so much so that he even called the spirit god throughout most of his notes. I believe it’s more apt to compare it to the Zoroastrian Ahura Mazda, as an omnipresent god who’s subordinates are lesser deities draws more similarities between the two.

Keeping the Faith in the Sunset of Life Enduring divorce and a host of other hardships and tragedies, I can’t seem to stop opening Pandora’s Box. The only consolation is that I am at the sunset of my life. As I mentioned in last week’s blog post, I spend most of my days in insolation (detachment) rather than isolation (seclusion). I also try to remind myself that I cannot understand certain…

PJO: we need to recognize the value of the minor gods. The Olympians are important, sure, but the minor gods do a lot of work in maintaining and assisting the pantheon, have their own kids and deserve to be seen and valued just as much
HoO: Back at it again with Olympian-only nonsense!

El, the original Semitic creator god. An omnipotent creator, all things emerged from his hands. With Reality bending around his fingers, El is the highest authority across the pantheon, Even greater than the king of the gods Baal. The specifics on how El created the universe is still a mystery, but it is believed that he created the cosmos from the nothingness around him. After creation, El investigated the seas of Chaos that flowed from him, among the waves bobbed the heads of two women, that of Asherah and Raḥmayyu. Curious, El took them home and began cooking a bird, he asked them that once the bird was done if they could call to him as either father or husband, whichever one they picked he would behave as such, once the bird was done they called to him as husband. The following intimate night resulted in the birth of Shachar and Shalim, the gods of Dusk and Dawn. From his coupling with his two wives the pantheon of Canaan was born. Baal, Mot, Yam, Astarte, Anat, all of them came from the light of El. El oversaw and organized the race for the throne of the king of the gods, a competition in which his children could campaign to be bestowed the throne by El. During the race, the sea god Yam gained much influence, with him having the favor of El’s wife Asherah. However, during a gathering of the pantheon, Yam insults the entire pantheon including his own father El. But following a duel with Baal, Yam is defeated and forced to pull out of the race, leaving Baal to be crowned the king of the gods. With the help of Asherah, Baal is able to convince El to authorize the construction of a palace. However during a feast ushered by the newly appointed Baal, the death god Mot consumes him. El joins the universe in grieving the loss of his son. Despite being in the throes of grief, El dreams that Baal is still alive. Elated, El sends the sun goddess Shapsh to rescue his son. After his return Baal once again begins combat with Mot, that is until El steps in, threatening Mot that if he continues he’d annihilate him, causing Mot to back down. In a separate myth, during a feast of the gods, El gets outrageously drunk, but is ultimately healed.
El was an incredibly important deity, it cannot be understated just how important he was. His worship evolved and transmitted into many different gods, the Syrian Dagan, the Mesopotamian Anu Enlil and Marduk, the Hurrian Kumarbi, and his Hittite form Elkunirsa. El also corresponds to the Chinese Shangdi, the Zoroastrian Ahura Mazda, and the Slavic Rod and Svarog, with some of these gods possibly developing out of El. The Egyptian Ptah also has traces of El within his worship, as both share the epithet of “Eternal”, however among the Egyptians Kothar-wa-khasis was supposed to be cognate with Ptah. The most important theological relation El holds is his connection to the modern Abrahamic God, as El is the direct originator of the Deity. Originally Known as Yhwh, this deity originated as the Israeli form of El, similar to how Dagan was the Syrian form of the god. Yhwh was a divine warrior god married to Asherah, with their children being the other Canaan gods like Baal and Astarte, all these deities held divine messengers known as Malak. Yhwh was the foremost worshipped deity in ancient Israel, with the vast majority of prayer being offered to them. However during the subjugation of Israel under Babylon, the monotheistic Yhwh emerged as a form of resistance against their Babylonian rulers. The deities of Canaan were demonized and absorbed into Yhwh and his Malak, who became the angels of Abrahamic faith. The naming scheme of angels keeps their relation with El, as seen in Raphael the oldest name among the angels. The modern God shares many of their other titles with El, including El Shaddai, Elohim (the term referring to the Canaanite pantheon meaning “the children of El), and El Elyon. Phoenicia also held Canaan’s gods and myths, including El. However due to being conquered by the Greeks, Phoenicia was forced to Hellenize their culture, with it essentially becoming Greek mythology with a Canaanite coat of paint. This is seen most prominently in their recorded creation myth, in which El wasn’t the creator or original god, but rather the son of the sky and earth who in turn were created by El Elyon, which was originally a name for El himself. El is later deposed by Baal, obviously this myth is heavily based on the greek theogony, with El taking the place of Chronus and Baal with Zeus. My personal theory on the origin of El is that he may have developed from the African creator gods, like Ra, Nyame, Amma, and even possibly Zanahary. El held many titles, such as “the bull god”, “Creator of creatures”, “the gracious one”, “father of the gods” and “father of man”. In many god lists from ancient Canaan, El is preceded by Ilib, a character not mentioned in any other texts. Ilib’s placement has led to the idea that it was possibly a forerunner deity to El, however no other texts support this, and the belief that El was the original deity contradicts this. Ilib is used as a term to refer to dead ancestors in Canaan, so most likely the Ilib in the god lists refers to the familial dead ancestors. The word El is used as a term to denote a deity in Canaanite language, evolving from Il, in texts however El himself is distinguished from this word by using ha El meaning “the great El”.

My brand new novel is here! Read Hel Bound Bard for FREE before the contest ends on Tapas!
Summary: Clover may need to rethink this bard thing. He just wanted to sing about saving the world, not be the reason it needs saving!
Bards aren’t meant to save the world themselves, and Clover is currently (maybe) the villain! Good thing Landreth is more than just a normal sellsword and might be the hero the world needs. Clover will just repent for all his (arguably) evil past actions while helping the handsome hero save the day. At least this will make one Hel of a ballad if Clover manages to survive this.
..
Cover art by the ever wonderful @alligaytorswamp !!!
(Story by me, Pixxie Pink of course)

I have a problem with 90% of the fests I see advertised with prompting. I love the idea of sharing plot bunnies or creative ideas. I don't like it when the prompt forms have a dozen fields outside of the prompt that further specifies anything. Ship, rating, characters, triggers, etc. A prompt in a standard fest is NOT a request for a gift. The writer is not obligated to write you a story. If you as a prompter have a list of requirements for the prompt, then you are not offering a prompt. You are saying, writer you must write me this exact story. I do not understand how that is seen as the norm in fandom right now instead of rude and limiting?
As long as you don't gift the story to the prompter, you are under NO OBLIGATION to follow any of those superfluous prompt fields. It's a prompt. A starting point for inspiration.
I cannot count how many fest prompts I've read through, found a prompt that sang to my muse and started crafting an idea only to then read 'Do Not Write: age gap relationship. Or only X or Y characters' . Who is this prompter to tell me what stories I am allowed to create? That is not how a prompt works! That is how a gift request works. Stop putting me in a fucking box.

Honestly? The gods in Exandria are so fascinating, especially after what happened in the most recent episode. That was probably the first time we've had a proper interaction aside from surface-level coin flips and Pike's resurrection. And of course, because the pantheon is one of the most intriguing aspects to me of Exandria's worldbuilding, it got me thinking.
Ludinus sought to humanise the gods. To prove them as equal to (or even less than) mortals like him. Essentially, he saw their morality, their love, their infighting and their will to live - and he saw mortals. The same mortals that he oh so enjoys subjugating. That is something that I think is vastly different from how I see it.
I'm definitely not qualified enough to speculate on the PCs and their individual views of the matter, so I'm speaking purely from my own personal standpoint. I agree that the Exandrian gods are more like mortals than they want to admit. And like Ludinus, I see their morality, their love, their infighting, and their will to live too. But where characters like him see that as weakness, and I see that as strength.
If the gods (or at least, the Prime Deities) could see the mortals for all the evil and good they were capable of and choose to defend them; then it stands to reason that one could apply that logic to the gods too. The gods sought to survive, to live and love, and hurt each other in all the same ways we do. So? Let them. Let them fight for their survival. Let them reach out to their creations for help in the same way that the mortals reach out to their creators.
The Ruby Vanguard sees these flawed deities as not worthy of their love - but their flaws make them even more worthy of defending.
