||The Witcher tarot | King of Cups | Crach an Craite||

[DO NOT REPOST OR REUSE WITHOUT LEGAL AND EXPLICIT AUTHORIZATION]
Crach is an amazing character, and I’m glad I managed to fit him to the figures cards series. There’s nothing much to say about this card or its composition, only that it was pretty obvious to me to put him as a king, and in the Cups family which is associated with water.

Hi☺️ I'm sorry for disturbing you, just wanted to ask if you're interested in Emhyr var Emreis/Crach an Craite? Thank you for answering 🤲❤️
Hey!!
Its really not a bother, I love answering asks and talking about my fandoms (also bit of an attention whore 😜)
I would definitely be interested in Emhyr/Crach! I've explained my characterisation of Emhyr before, and Crach basically exemplifies his type.
@traumschwinge has written a couple of ficlets that explore their potential friendship, (as Skellige is really important to both Pavetta and Ciri) and because my head is always in the gutter when it comes to Emhyr, I've always read those with "what if they fuck now?" in the back of my mind 😅
I think there is one ficlet that crosses that line - great payoff !!

Hehe can I have two?
Duny/Pavetta and Crach&Duny
Ohhh a canon pair and a rarepair!
Let's start with Duny/Pavetta (photo by @marinamk29 because I don't have one myself. Thanks Mk29!)
This ship sailed... and tragically sunk in canon, but vibrantly alive in fanfiction.
Before we learned of the plot twist, it was a beautiful story of a woman who loved a man despite his cursed appearance. Age difference aside - and I mentioned before I had to suspend my modern sensibilities of the practice of marrying girls barely out of their teen age to much older guys, I truly believe that Duny - despite his thirst for vengeance, wanting to reclaim his stolen inheritance, saying he did not love Pavetta - loved Pavetta during the course of his stay in Cintra. Yeah, it wasn't true love that cured him of his quills, but it doesn't mean he felt not a shred of affection.
And my god, the stories you (@traumschwinge and others) made, make this pair all the more endearing. Heck even the threesome of Duny(Emhyr)/Pavetta and Geralt felt so natural, it was such a joy to read!
Unfortunately some people find this canon ship unpopular. It is in the pages of the books. And also the aforementioned age difference.
______________________________________________________________
Now for the rarepair: Duny/Crach. Crach photo from @witcheringways and Duny pic is mine.
I don't ship them, but if I do, it's not a romantic one. More like the typical relationship between brothers in- law: sharing stories of their past encounters over tankards of beer, mother in- law issues ( I bet they have plenty of grievances to share beyond Calanthe's hearing and spies), talking about fatherhood and their kids. Crach showing Duny the isles and their way of life, Duny picking up some Skelliger habits- and since he can't reveal his true nationality, would be discussing battle tactics, maybe even teach him chess or moving chess pieces on a map.
Lots of laughter, beer, maybe some fisticuffs for fun, jawing and backslapping.
I leave the romance stories between the two to other writers.

Crach an Craite
Chest 1: Due to the havoc wrought by his fleets in the Empire's coastal territories, Crach earned the moniker "Tirth ys Muire" – the Wild Boar of the Sea. Pleased with the new epithet, Crach decided to sculpt the bow of his drakkar into the likeness of raging boar's head. According to legend, they harvested the wood from Gedyneith, the sacred oak of Ard Skellig. The drakkar instilled fear into the hearts of enemies, for whenever they rammed into an enemy vessel, the wild boar's eyes would glow blood red...
Chest 2: Crach an Craite fathered two children – his son, Hjalmar, and his daughter, Cerys. When asked whom he would wish to see as heir and successor, he could only sigh, conflicted by his thoughts. Hjalmar reminded Crach of his younger self – ambitious, valiant, hungry for glory. An impressive warrior, yes... But a jarl? Cerys, on the other hand, possessed all the qualities required of a capable leader. But were the islanders prepared to follow the word of a woman? Only time would tell...
Chest 3: As a young man – his beard a rich auburn, his smile broad, the famed vanquisher of the Nilfgaardian armada – Crach stole the gaze of many women. Why, even the famous Yennefer of Vengerberg was enticed by Crach's charm. According to rumor, he asked for the sorceress' hand in marriage. In response, Yennefer smiled, kissed him on his brow... then opened a portal and disappeared from the Skellige Isles for nearly three decades.
Scroll 1: At a young age, Crach was foretold that he would one day clash with a foreign ruler, an enemy to Skellige, on the Isles' stormy, coastal seas. For his entire life, the head of Clan an Craite waited for that fateful day...
Scroll 2: Convinced the prophecy referred to the Emperor of Nilfgaard, Crach constantly urged his fleet to remain watchful for black sails bearing the Golden Sun. He eagerly awaited the emperor's arrival, to look him in the eye before wresting the crown from his head.
Scroll 3: Years passed, then decades... Crach sank dozens of Nilfgaardian galleys, yet the emperor's feet remained on dry land. Apparently, he was troubled by matters more important than the taming the rocky isles.
Scroll 4: Crach became convinced the prophecy must have been misinterpreted. Resigned, he ceased his search for the great sea battle that was written for him in the stars. That is, until on Skellige's shores appeared the Naglfar – the ghostly drakkar commanded by the King of the Wild Hunt himself.

Yes! In addition to smoothing all of Yen's rough edges, they also changed a lot of events to be about Yennefer, for no real reason or benefit to her character, imo. Like instead of a conclave already underway, it is a stunning idea put forth by Yennefer and gets put together like overnight. And Triss flew Geralt to Brokilon, but apparently they didn't heal him at all? So Yennefer needed to portal to Brokilon, heal him, and then leave again (why leave?). So what was the point of Triss even taking him to Brokilon? It happened in the books because Brokilon could maybe heal him when no one else could, since he was so messed up. But like, Yennefer laid hands on him for a minute and he's better? Triss couldn't do that when she found him, if it was that easy?
And then the fact that they decided to keep Yennefer from being compressed... Like, I get it, they don't want to sideline one of their main characters, since it would be kind of unfair to the actor. But I don't like what it took away from Yennefer. In the books, Yennefer was gone when Geralt got up and her dress left behind, so he wasn't sure if she was part of the coup or not (the coup ladies were wearing trousers). It really emphasized that Geralt loved Yen, but he did not trust her fully. And for a long time after that, Geralt isn't really sure if she betrayed him or not, which is so sad; but then the second Geralt hears Yen is in trouble, he sets off to rescue her - doesn't matter. I dunno, I liked this development in the books - deliciously angsty. But in the show, Geralt and Yennefer are on the same page, and seemingly completely assured of their trust in the other, and don't doubt anything. I guess maybe that was the point of the Deathless Mother last season? To speed-run this betrayal and make-up? Hmm but I don't like it.
And because Yen disappeared after Thanedd, and also kind of messed up with Tissaia in freeing Vilgefortz, everyone assumed she had been working for Vilgefortz all along. So when Yen came back, she had to work to overcome the mistrust of everyone. I liked her having to work to prove herself. Like, Crach an Craite took major convincing to get on her side, but once he did, he offered her loyalty and valuable aid. It was earned. Yennefer struggled; she got dropped in the ocean, stuck in a fishing net, her magic wonky from compression and teleporting through wards. She communed with the goddess Freya about her willingness to sacrifice herself, and was found to be worthy for that reason. In the show, it was just a 5 minute stop to get what she needed from the Jarl. Yennefer was totally fine and in control, not desperate or feeling powerless with nothing to offer, with not a single ally on the continent. Nope, just another stop for Yennefer to chat over drinks.
And aside from that, how is Geralt's journey supposed to work if Yennefer is right there? Like, can she not just portal them to Nilfgaard, get Ciri (or Teryn, really), and pop back out? Since it seems like she's popping by Brokilon and Skellige as she pleases? Why is Geralt traveling the thousands of miles to Nilfgaard for no reason? And what is Yennefer doing? Like, if she's not compressed at this time, why isn't she going after Ciri? It doesn't make sense within the story. I wish they gave us a better reason for her lack of involvement. Maybe they'll think one up by next season.
So yeah, agreed. I felt overall positive about this latest season, but I felt less happy with Yennefer's arc.
tbh ok... I've been trying to wrangle my thoughts into line about this and have not talked about this anywhere but. I didn't vibe with yennefer's character in s3 as much (with some notable exceptions). the choice to make her appear extra powerful, heroic, in charge, etc were... not good for her character.
like geralt in s2, she didn't have much of a character arc. her character moments that challenged her had all happened in s2 and she seemed to exist in s3 purely to directly drive the plot forward. idk if that was wholly due to the book changes that put her more centrally in the thanned conclave and coup and lodge setup but. those choices sure didn't help.
(the notable exceptions for me were the fight at the silver heron where we see her struggle to keep it together more distinctly and also several vulnerable scenes with tissaia)

Calanthe Fiona Riannon of Cintra, known also as the "Lioness of Cintra" and "Ard Rhena" ("High Queen" in Elder Speech), was a queen of Cintra, the mother of Pavetta, and grandmother of Ciri. Her nephew, Crach an Craite, called her "Modron". She was known for her bravery and beauty.

Crach/Yennefer?
(both pics from my PS4 gameplay with PS enhancements)
Ship em!
It's not hard for me to see these two rekindle that old flame. They go far back: had a short affair before Crach got married and had a son (Hjalmar), and is still fond of Yennefer. Canon says he tried to entice her for one last tryst- for old times, but Yennefer didn't take him up on that offer, she cannot afford a distraction from finding Ciri.
Old flames are hard to snuff out completely, and put them in a room with no distractions or obstacles (meaning Geralt or Ciri, and Crach's kids and wives), then that fondness could progress to something a bit spicy. It will be short, a platonic toss in the chambers for old times sake.
No unpopular opinion so far.
