Holy shit. I love character analysis. 

I do this thing where I phyco-analize everyone all the time, real and fake people, and I’ve gotten good at it. But Lucien is a treat, because he is confusing. He clearly wants the threshold crest, and I do think that he is honest about a lot, but I don’t think he’s been powerless for a very long time, since he saw the city. He said that his childhood was rough, he was scorned, and it shows. He is honest, which is very smart, because the truth is much more believable than lies, and keeping your lies sparse makes them much more believable in turn. He has told the Nein a lot, but its not because he wants their trust. It’s because he wants to prove himself. He is bragging with his information, the power he has, and a mentally stable person would see that giving this information is most likely not in their best interest. But, Caduceus was right. He’s been around a lot of people who tell him yes all of the time, and he most likely lies to himself, says he like that. But the Nein, they are so very human. I don’t mean that race wise, but I’m unable to come up with a species-inclusive word which shows that. What that means is that they say what they mean, which can be dumb, which they recognize, but its at the core of their group, and they’re not about to give it up. And it would feel amazing to challenge all of the negatives in your life with this one group appreciating you, recognizing you as important, powerful. 

I think that the simple truth is that he keeps them around because he likes them there. There most likely is other factors, other reasons to have them around, but if he wanted the crest he could have it, and it would make his life easer. He hides his loneliness, his brokenness from being shattered behind a wall of confidence, and stabliblty. People hide behind whatever will make you look away from their flaws, and there is a fine line between faking it and being healthy. He acts perfect, a front too good to be true, so I would say he must feel broken. Helpless. And, Empty

I really love that Beau is getting the better of Lucien in their conversations, annoying the fuck out of him.  With Mollymauk, he started their little feud and often got the better of her because Talisen tends to be one of the more eloquent than Marisha most of the time.  Not to mention that when Mollymauk was around it was precharacter development Beau who was too nervous to really show off her strengths of character and tried to keep her ‘she’s just a thug dumb,’ attitude instead of the child prodigy from an abusive home.  

With Lucien though, Beau can just tear him to pieces because he isn’t someone she’s trying to get along with and she has developed self confidence in herself and knows her friends have her back.  She can be an asshole to him because he’s an asshole to them and it’s great.
