Happy au—or just a happy moment not seen in the show—where Cameron Mahkent does, however briefly, get to live the romcom life he deserves.

The first few attempts end in utter failure. Cameron crumples an entire sketchbook worth of pages of drafts until he's got something perfect, but that's only half the battle. He spends weeks practicing. All through December and January, he takes advantage of the ice on the ground and the cold in the air to help him stabilize his work. He knows he's running low on time, but he can't just ask Courtney. After everything she's done for him, she deserves better than a text, or casual conversation. So he stays up late and gets up early, trying again, and again, and again.

February first is cold and clean, and his hands shake as the ice coats his palms. He twists the ice, thin as paper, forming curves and points, and a long stem, then another, until he has an even dozen.

They won't last long, but they don't have to. He stands on Courtney's covered porch and knocks.

Inside, he sees her little brother jump to peer out the window at the top of the door. His voice is audible. "Hey Coooourt, you're boyfriend's here."

Cameron looks at his feet. He's not Courtney's boyfriend, exactly. He thinks he'd like to be.

She opens the door, beaming at him. "Cameron?" She asks. "What are you--"

"Do you want to go to the Valentine's Day Dance with me?" he asks, holding out the roses he's crafted. She takes them gingerly, like she can't bear the risk of breaking them.

"I'd love to," she says. "Did you make these? They're beautiful."

"You once said my powers could be… used for art," he says. "I'm glad you like them."

"I love them. Do you want to come inside? Pat's making waffles…"

She holds the door wide with one hand as the roses start to drip on the floor in the other.

Once Pat realizes how bad of a guardian/caretaker/fake dad? Rick’s uncle is, he adopts/becomes Rick’s guardian. 

Courtney and Rick don’t get along immediately. As in there’s some friction  going from friends to ‘siblings’. 

Beth likes to do academic competitions. She is incredibly smart. Her grades have only slightly suffered from the added weight of heroism. Yolanda is jealous. Courtney is vibing with her decent grades. 

The trio (Not Henry, not yet, also I’m writing this when Henry’s still a bitch so...) goes to all of Beth’s academic competitions. Rick hangs onto Beth’s every last word. It’s the only reason he knows shit about biology. He used to try to act like he didn’t care, but he can’t act. at all. it was obvious. Courtney only slightly teased him. 

Yolanda and Courtney usually spend the night making out, but you best believe they cheer the second loudest whenever Beth gets a point.  The only person who eclipses them is Rick. 

Barbra is overwhelmed at first. Like her daughter, these kids, are in danger???Then she just does minimal fretting, like making sure Rick eats or listening to Beth talk about her day. 

Rick has to be physically restrained from hurting yolanda’s family. Even Courtney there’s-good-in-everyone Whitmore wants to hurt the Montez’s. In the end, Beth calms them down, well Rick, but both Rick and Courtney are calm by the end of the night, and Pat and Barbra are the ones that handle the situation. 

Rick, who don’t get me wrong, he’s smart, he’s realistic bordering on pessimistic, isn’t academically smart. Like he could be a great engineer and doesn’t know shit about history or some sciences like biology. Biology is too big and sprawling and confusing. Beth ends up ‘tutoring’ him, like study dates, to help him. 

That’s basically how the affection started. Rick was impressed with how smart Beth was. After a while her ramblings went from annoying to endearing. When he got his driver’s licence (if he hadn’t already) he would drive Beth home. At first it was because the ISA could attack at any moment, but then it was a nice routine. 

Yolanda taught Beth boxing. Courtney taught her (still Beth) some gymnastic moves. Beth taught them how to do basic first aid and tried to get Rick into meditation only to fail. 

Courtney legitimately considered joining the cheer squad, but decided against it after Cindy’s threats.

Beth is the most competitive out of the four of them during video games. Rick has absolutely no clue how to play most video games

Rick has an extensive list of allergies.

All four of them look to Pat as a father figure on different levels. Pat is very overprotective of all 5 of his kids.

Rick is overprotective of Beth, Court, and Yolanda. Beth’s is romantically driven while Court’s and Yolanda’s is platonically/sisterly driven. He can usually be calmed down, but not Yolanda, she’s a silent killer.

She, yolanda, has a great relationship with Alex. He doesn’t hold the same views as his family and doesn’t care that Yolanda is dating a woman. They play boardgames all the time. He covers for her when she sneaks out at night. He’s happy she made friends. 

The Montez’s are very homophobic but Pat isn’t. He doesn’t know whether or not to be like you’re dating my daughter :( or like screw your family, you’re my kid now. (the second instinct wins)

cindy burman and courtney whitmore used to be best friends...

they grew up together, they spent their childhood in neighborhood parks and backyards until they unfortunately drifted apart. after courtney asked cindy out and got rejected, they decided it was better to be less than friends, to be strangers. five distant years later, cindy comes rushing to courtney’s side when she finds out courtney is recovering from an accident. so the two spend the day reminiscing on their high school days, remembering the time they became more than friends and realizing that maybe they have some unfinished business.

p.s. the song is from courtney’s pov and it’s her response to cindy’s confession. cindy tells courtney that she wanted to be more than friends but her fears got the best of her so she ran from their friendship.

"You don't remember me?" Courtney to the Staff

The chest was right where she'd last seen it, tucked along the back wall of the basement. A layer of dust so thick she could have written her name in it lay on the top. 

Courtney swallowed, suddenly terrified to open the crate.  Just like opening the door to the house and finding it so, so empty, what if the staff was gone, too? 

It had only been for a moment. The Flash had come, the Shade with him, and a version of Yolanda ten years older, and that many years sadder, too. It was only supposed to be for a moment.  She was supposed to return to the moment she'd left, the timeline safe. Her friends and family safe. Instead, Blue Valley had been desolate, missing posters hanging faded in empty storefronts.  

It was there. Cradled by the cutouts in the wood, the staff lay, untouched by dust.  Courtney reached out with one finger, then grabbed it from the box. "I missed you," she said. "I'm sorry, I never meant to leave." The staff had gotten selective, after  Not-Sylvester. When the future version of her--in that timeline, the one that wasn't going to happen--had fallen, they'd needed her still. Somehow, it still felt like a betrayal to Cosmo.

The staff didn't light up in her hands.  Courtney held it close to her chest, clinging to it.

"Cosmo?" she whispered. "You don't remember me? It's me, it's... It's Courtney."  How long had it been? Long enough for dust to gather, for posters to fade, for her family to....

No. They'd never have just left. Something had happened to Blue Valley, and she hadn't been there to stop it.

"Cosmo, it's Courtney. Your Courtney. We're going to find the others. I promise."

would you guys be interested in a stargirl au where basically there’s a war going on and how the other characters react to it

so far I know that if you guys want it, I’ll do one for hournite and starcat, but I might do one for artemis+cindy, cameron+Joey, and Henry (I don’t have ship for him, but I can write some platonic friendships for him) (also it doesn’t have to be just them, if you have a different pairing, cameronxcourtney for example, I can write that)

For Hournite and Starcat/wildstar they’ll be homecoming stories (with a surprise) I have different plans for the other three, probably
