Since Fawcett takes place in the fifties (in my AU), and the Second World War ended in nineteen thirty nine, it’s not unreasonable for a good chunk of the population of Fawcett to be war veterans as their state had a large amount of survivors. But imagine the amount of traumatized young residents coming back from the war and just not being fazed by anything. Fawcett was so numb to all the weirdness showing up in their hometown, the veterans going numb from war, members of the community too busy or traumatized to care from the whole experience. The emotions families must’ve felt watching their people come back shells of themselves. Cracked in ways they can’t fix, with no way to make them the people they used to be. And then having to go back to regular life, Fawcett most definitely was struggling.

Maybe that’s why they like Captain Marvel so much, he’s a symbol of optimism after the lives they’ve lived.

How do you determine if a rewards program is worth signing up for? It seems like every single business has one now and i can't figure out which ones are worth my time. And then there are the ones that are a credit card *and* a rewards card?? Is tim hortons trying to be my bank?? How do those work and are they worth considering?

Pro tip: most are not worth it.

Double secret probation pro tip: don't fucking bother with business-specific credit cards. Especially if you're not a credit card expert.

Now, here are the exceptions:

Do you shop there every week? A rewards membership might be worth it for the occasional coupon or discount. For example, I have a rewards membership with my grocery store. I regularly save anywhere from $4-$30 on my weekly grocery run due to member-exclusive discounts.

Is it a free membership? Then there's really no harm in it. For example, I have a rewards membership with the shop that changes my car's oil. Every 9 changes I get a free oil change. And I pay nothing for the privilege.

Are you good at ignoring ads? A lot of rewards memberships, even if they're free and useful, are just marketing tools meant to inundate you with marketing spam and emails to induce you to buy more. If you can ignore this extra marketing, you're good to go. For example, my local greenhouse spams me with tons of ads, but I still use their free rewards program because I only buy what I need, when I need it.

If you can handle all that, then go ahead! But I would personally never PAY for a rewards membership. And I have never, EVER gotten a credit card from a store I shop at. Here's more info, my dear:

not sure how many other people will even use this info but if you've ever received one of those $100 vouchers for wine at nakedwines.com I just calculated the optimal order to get the most bang for your buck

some explanation first: you only get the $100 off if you have an order of at least $140, and since everything is priced as $x.99 the closest you can actually get to that number is $140.85. AND they add an arbitrary rule that you have to buy at least 6 bottles and then "packs" of 3. it straight up wont let you complete your checkout if you have a number of bottles that's not divisible by 3

this is all needlessly complicated specifically so you wont do what i just did

im not going to bother showing my work because realistically nobody cares, but here's the order that gives you 15 bottles of wine for the optimal price of $140.85. meaning you ACTUALLY pay $40.85 or averaging $2.73 per bottle.

$8.99 price - 11 bottles

$9.99 price - 3 bottles

$11.99 price - 1 bottle
